Full of glitches. Does not follow directions
Alexa, I really wish I wouldn’t have bought you! $100+ down the toilet. Problem? It does what it wants not what it’s supposed to. I’ve done nothing but fight with it to get it to play what I want on my subscription and it won’t do it. It works for part of the time and then it stops again. It’s like living in an abusive relationship, it always apologizes and says it’ll do better, but does it? I think you can guess the answer to that. And it’s not loud enough!! Huge waste of money for me

Best Value Smart Stereo Setup
I have stereo pair of Echo Dot Maxes and as a composer and audiophile I absolutely love them.
I started out with a single standard dot echo. Very quickly I realized I wanted a stereo setup with higher audio fidelity.
Firstly, the audio playback is gorgeous. Newer releases definitely sound better on it than stuff from the 90s from a production point of view.
It’s so nice to have music playing in our apartment without a screen in front of us. Its predictions are better, and I’ve been exposed to a lot of new music that I love.
The smart aspects of it are great, too. Whenever I get bored I ask it to provide a news briefing. I also ask it about current international events and it’s surprisingly up to date with everything.
Furthermore, there are few limits to how specific you can be with a question. One night I asked “Alexa, how many nanometers thick are the transistors on the latest Nvidia graphics card” and it answered it! (five nanometers thick, in case you’re curious)
Are there better speakers out there? Well, yeah. However, this is the easiest to interact with, and the most fun to have around. I say that as someone whose career is in music.

I love it! I have the smallest and the difference in sound is wow, it is perfect for larger spaces, it has better bass and better sound in general, it is worth investing more in this one if you are looking for better sound quality

I’m really impressed with this Echo Dot. The setup was quick and easy, and it works great for music, reminders, timers, and everyday questions. It also looks modern and doesn’t take up much space. Definitely a useful addition to my home.

I Got A Rogue Model, Only Does What It Wants, Not What Asked To Do.
This was a great addition to my Echo family until it wasn't. It shut down numerous times during the day and was getting overly warm. The Echo rogue. I'd ask it to play one of my music playlists and it would choose songs I've never chosen. It kept saying that it was now ACTUALLY playing my list, but continued playing songs unasked for. When I told it to stop. It said: I'll stop playing, and just start another song. Obviously this model I have has decided to play and do as it pleases. AI gone rogue... I unplugged it, then replugged it, and now it repeats everything it say, twice. Keeps saying it's sending reports regarding the problem, but since it's gone rogue, I doubt that.
Oh and straight to the electronics trash pile.

Excellent sound!
I bought this Echo Dot Max during Prime Day to replace my really old Echo. I have to say the sound is really good like the last one. The connectivity is much better than the old one. It's compatible with my Wi-Fi 6 as well. Alexa is much better and is more informative than before. I haven't encountered any of that. It's an absolutely perfect product. I'm definitely satisfied with it!

I live in a small apartment and the volume is plenty for the size of this studio. The setup was instant. I’m typically a hardcore Apple loyalist but Alexa is honestly better than Siri (at least at the time of this June 2026 review). Even when I press play on Spotify the Echo products are faster to respond than my laggy HomePod mini.

Great Product! This was the easiest of the Alexa products to set up. The sound is amazing. It isn't huge and bulky. I love it!! It is my favorite of all the designs and products. I bought purple and it is beautiful! Matched my room perfectly!

Love the purple color, sound could be better
Sound quality isn’t the greatest. I have to raise the volume to 60 at night when I play ambient or rain sounds because I can’t hear well over my fan on low setting. And sometimes the echo face plate feels hot to the touch. Setup was easy and it connects quickly to WiFi or Bluetooth. The actual quality of the echo max I found a bit lacking. Maybe the next version will work out the kinks.

Unexpectedly Small, but Zero Sacrifice in Sound
I was shocked to see how small the unit was when it arrived. I was actually worried that the sound wasn’t going to be the level of what I was looking for. Boy was I wrong!!!! This tiny little thing is so good at filling my living room with sound; my only regret is that I didn’t get two of them. The quality is definitely there too; it doesn’t seem super cheap; there was thought that went into this. You can link your Spotify account which makes for seamless listening. Definitely worth the money, plus Alexa is the best AI out there. I’m gonna try out the studio next.

Easy to set up and install. Just learning about it. Walks me through making lists where to find stuff on app. Informative conversation and I’ve only had it for one day. I’m 67 and not very technical at all. If you’ve been thinking about one, all I can say is give it a try. It’s fun and there’s so much information and new things to learn. I got the amethyst color it’s nice.

There's a huge difference in the speaker set that is in this Echo dot Max versus the regular Echo Dot. The sound quality is extremely good on this. I substituted this one out for the one I had next to my bed because of the sound quality and I often listen to audible books before I go to sleep. I don't have to tweak the sound as much with this one to hear it at that just right decibel level. I always like when there's not a lot of bright lights and numbers included on a piece of equipment like this because if I have it near the bed I want to be able to sleep. Anything with lights or numbers I don't want anywhere near my bed. So if you're like me and you like it dark, get this for your bedroom! You'll like it for the sound quality for Audible and it's very good also for the various radio stations you might enjoy listening to also.

The sound quality is amazing. I have the previous dot and it creates a great multi room music vibe. Great for get-togethers or for cleaning days 😄 also, looooved the color. Easy to use and link to your phone. Seems durable. Relatively small, can fit pretty much anywhere.

Smart hub capabilities in a Dot package
I upgraded my 5th generation Echo Dots with LED clock faces, which I use as a home theater setup, to the new Echo Dot Max. The Max is noticeably larger and heavier with a solid build quality. Setup is fast and easy. The white Maxes are visually unintrusive so they blend into the decor. The front-facing light is easier to see for command responses and alarms compared to the bottom light on older Dots.
Voice recognition is good with reliable, quick response to commands across the room. As a home theater, the sound is fuller and more rounded than my previous Dot duo, with more prominent bass tones. It is not as dramatic an upgrade from the previous Dot as previous generation upgrades.
An advantage is Matter over Thread and Zigbee integration for smart home control. I'm migrating my Zigbee devices from a 4th gen Echo hub to the Dot Maxes, and they work well as a central hub. The downside is that Zigbee pairing is hub-specific, requiring individual resets for each device, which is tedious.
If your goal is general Alexa access in a room., regular Echo Dots offer better value. For smart home users wanting a compact speaker with smart hub capabilities and no screen, the Dot Max is a good option.

I have to say the device looks cool for me. Sound quality and volume of music is clear and wonderful for the size and it really has a strong Bass. I really enjoy listening to music on it. The new Alexa+ is also noticeably improved in many ways.
When I first got it on Oct 29th, I was disappointed that the Home Theater feature wasn’t yet available to set up with my Fire TV Stick, which affected my experience at first. But as of 11/08/2025, after a software update rolled out to my Echo Dot Max devices, the Home Theater feature finally became available and it works excellent with my Fire TV Stick!
Everything works perfectly now, and I’m thrilled with the result.

Alexa Has Officially Entered Her Luxury Era
It really feels like Alexa has hit luxury status. The new Echo Dot Max looks amazing and sounds even better. The design is super clean and minimal, and the sound fills the room in a way that totally surprised me. It’s something you actually want out on display instead of hiding in a corner.
Setup couldn’t be easier. I plugged it in and it was already signed in and ready to go. Alexa’s AI is way ahead of Siri and Google now. It actually learns how you talk, asks smart follow-up questions, and keeps up with real conversations.
I’m honestly obsessed. If this one’s this good, I can’t even imagine what the 11-inch version I ordered is going to do.

Working Great now that the software has caught up to the hardware.
Advertising is misleading (aka a LIE) about Stereo Compatibility with older devices. I have 3 Echo Dots, 5th generations. In the advertising, it states that the new Echo Dot Max will stereo pair with my older devices that are 5th gen. Well, it doesn't! When I choose the Echo Dot Max in the stereo pairing setup, all my other devices are grayed out and can't be used to create a stereo pair. I can, however, pair any of the other 3 gen 5 devices as a pair. So, if you wish to stereo pair your new Echo Dot Max, you had best buy two. So far, the only thing I like about the New Max is that it looks like the Death Star, as it sits on my desk. Update, Echo Dot Max might be a fire hazard. It's surface temperature is a lot warmer, almost hot, than previous models. This might be why the motion sensor refuses to work and why I have to call her name, Alexa, several times to get her to wake up. I've tried picking her up or tapping on her hard shell to get her attention. But to no avail. Older Gen 5 device works far better. The Max version needs air vents for the heat. Don't expect it to last very long before the electronics are fried from the internal heat. Don't buy this model, it SUCKS.

Disregard all of the above now that the Echo Dot Max Software has caught up to the hardware it is working great. Of all my Echo Devices it is now my favorite one and it takes it's place on my desktop next to my computer. I'm truly glad that I purchaced it.
