I've had Google devices for years now, and have never been super pleased with them. They do fine with general tasks like adding to your grocery list, playing music, or giving you the weather. But when it comes to setting routines, I've had a hard time getting them to cooperate. This is what inspired me to try this device for our daughter, to see if it might help with our routines. Google also has a hard time getting "playful" with our daughter, aged 3, and finding appropriate stories or music specifically for her. You can try to do separate profiles for kids on Google, but after trying I found I would regularly run into voice verification issues that made it more of a hassle than anything. So, enter Alexa.
Here in my video you can see that I ask Alexa to set a reminder to brush our teeth. At the given time, Alexa will say, out loud, "it's time to brush your teeth!". Alexa makes it very easy to do this, just one prompt and it's done. It's immediately synced to my app, where I can remove or edit this reminder as I please. In comparison, when I ask google home (set up with different profiles available to help children stay protected), my Google home will indeed set the reminder but will not tell us out loud what that reminder is for. I must ask for the reminder, and then Google will verify my voice in order to tell me what it's for. I understand it, but don't love it. It's inconvenient and the google will often struggle to verify my voice. The point for Alexa here is this is a child-dedicated device, the child's profile is already integrated into the device. It knows it is for a child and will give the appropriate feedback for said child. Google has no dedicated kids device. I love this reminder feature. It's very helpful with daily routines. Having Alexa remind us to brush our teeth, get ready for bed, remember to pack lunch, etc., is a great way to give kids a little more independence. As our child grows, she will be able to set her own reminders for things that are important to her without the hassle of google's verification issues.
On the topic of routines, Alexa has a built in "sleep studio" that you can turn on for nightly bedtime wind-down reminders. If you have a child that needs transitional reminders to wind down for bed, this is the perfect device for you. She begins a half hour before bedtime, reminding kids out loud that bedtime is around the corner. She will remind again before bedtime, and then let them know when it has approached. Once bedtime hits, she can play gentle sleep music if you prefer. Once the bedtime has passed, Alexa will no longer "play" with your child. My daughter can lay in bed and ask Alexa to tell her a joke, but Alexa will simply say something to the effect of "I can't play right now. Your parents have shut me off for the night". This is helpful for parents who want to hold true to those bedtime boundaries, but you can easily pause this function if, for example, it's a Saturday and the kids get to stay up late and want to play with Alexa.
In my video, you can see that I ask Alexa to tell me a joke and she's quite responsive to this. She is also responsive when you ask her to do things like play games or tell stories. There are a couple of minor things that could use improvement. When you hear Alexa give me clues about the bird and the lion during our game, you can hear the robotic breakup sounds when she says, "what am I?" this is pretty normal when she says that phrase. I'm not sure what's happening there but it doesn't happen, that I've noticed, very often with other phrases or responses. Sometimes the sound or tone of her voice will sound different. This is not a huge deal. She's an AI voice, not a human, though she is always learning and it's pretty intuitive and easy to "speak" with her.
When I ask Alexa to tell me what sound elephants make, you can hear her say she doesn't know it. When I ask for monkeys, she attempts to describe the sound. Maybe it's the way I am phrasing it but one thing the google does better here is play an actual sound from the animal and (on the hub) even displays a picture. I would love to hear Alexa play the sound of an elephant. However, when we ask for animal facts, she is right on top of it. Our daughter loves learning about animals which is probably why, when I asked for a game, she moved into an animal guessing game. Our daughter also loves to play the color guessing game with Alexa.
Next up, I try to show you how Alexa works with the echo glow. I bought a bundle pack that included the echo pop and the echo glow. We primarily use this for the "stoplight" method of staying in bed. When the light is red, stay in bed. When the light is green, it's okay to get up. This helps immensely with kids who are often waking up very early in the mornings and struggling throughout the day. Alexa has a routine that we've set where she leaves the light on red all night, and at 7am she will turn it green. There have been no glitches noticed with this routine. You can also use the echo glow whenever you please outside of this routine and Alexa can turn it on, change its colors, and turn it off. My daughter named her light "Maui", so when we prompt Alexa to turn Maui on and make Maui a certain color, she does it. I have noticed when using the glow, Alexa is less responsive to successive prompts. You can see I have to ask a couple of times for her to turn Maui off. She is usually able to respond very cleanly to successive questions, prompts, or tasks as long as her light remains on. This is just something that happens when she is working with echo glow. It's another minor improvement that could be made.
Lastly, I tried to show in the video how Alexa might respond when a child asks for something they likely should not be asking for. I asked Alexa to tell me a "naughty" story. Alexa responds that she can't tell me naughty stories, but actually redirects me by asking me if I'd like to listen to a silly story about a monkey or a brave story about a rabbit. I like this feature and I like the way it redirects the child to something positive. For parents who are monitoring these requests, when I go into my app and view the history, I can see "Naughty Story Request" with the exact words I used when I asked Alexa to tell me this story.
The overall appearance of the echo pop is very kid-friendly; it's small enough for them to handle if they need to, yet the speaker quality is still very good. The graphic of the princesses is crisp and clear. This is, again, a very minor complaint, but I do wish there were more color options.
Overall, I really like this device and I have started actually looking into the echo show for myself at this point after experiencing Alexa vs my google nest hub. I feel Alexa just fits into our lifestyle a little better than google does anymore.
I would 100% recommend this device, especially if you are using it for bedtime and general routines.

Works perfectly. As described.
My kids would play with this non-stop if I let them. It is in our playroom and we play an ambiance at night. Sometimes music sometimes ask questions. My kids can tell it to turn off the lights rooms away and it can hear them. Sounds great when playing and talking and volume. IMO Sound is not as good as the echo dot 1st gen I think it was (flatish cylinder). Whatever. Still sounds good Love the colors. Glad to have it.

Operates like a Cheap Chinese Knockoff
Video included to support my 1 star rating.
I have had two of these. Neither understands what we are saying. They continually lose connection, music rarely turns on and if it does, it disappears for about 10 seconds, plays for 10 then disappears again. Most of the time it just says the internet isn’t reachable even if that has nothing to do with what you ask. You ask a question, make a request and the blue light turns on, freeze for about 10 seconds and turns off having done nothing. Resets, changing locations in the room, nothing works. We live in a major Southern California city so not like we are in the sticks. We have lots of other non-kid ones in each room with no problem, these small kids ones are cute, but total junk. Don’t buy this, spend a few bucks more and get a real one and save yourself the hassle and your kids the disappointment.

Tons of issues and bugs with commands
It comes with the Kids+ subscription but won't read any books listed with this subscription. Tons of error messages and practically doesn't do half of the things listed.

6 months of kids!
My five-year-old kid loves this Alexa device. After comment during mine for years, I’m happy to say that he has an age-appropriate Alexa of his own. I’ll be a family that doesn’t have screen time so I was pretty satisfied with the safety and features that the parents app has.
If you were younger, it would still be a good toy and tool but I think he wouldn’t understand the functions as well as he does now.

Echo pop is a good quality product not much money
I gave this product four stars because it was really hard to set up for some reason. I love the way it looks the dog with the sunglasses. It’s so cute the colors and it comes with a blue silicone holder. I’m super glad that I bought this thing and I’ll keep you posted. If it turns up that it’s a lemon.

Perfect smart speaker for kids — fun, safe, and educational!
I bought the Echo Pop Kids for my son, and it has been amazing! He loves the Avengers design, and I appreciate that it was created specifically for kids with safety and parental controls in mind.
What I like most is how easy it is to manage through the Parent Dashboard. I can set daily limits, filter content, and even check activity, which gives me peace of mind. Alexa also automatically blocks explicit songs and gives kid-appropriate answers, which is a huge plus.
My son feels more independent too—he sets his own alarms and asks Alexa for help with homework.
The sound quality is great for its size, and the silicone cover makes it durable enough for kids.
Overall, this device strikes the perfect balance between fun, learning, and safety. Highly recommend it for families with young kids!

Why Not A Pink Silicone Cover?
If they have a Speaker cover with Super Heros with a Blue silicone case Why Not have a Pink silicone case for the Princess Speaker Cover!?
~And Honestly the Whole "Disney Echo Pop" is really a rip off, Like Literally the Speaker Face is literally just a Disk that isn't attached to anything the only thing keeping it in place is the Silicone Case.
~ But on the flip side if you do decide to change the location of your Echo Pop you don't have that Disney Character Speaker face on there.
