Sleep mask that is a must have on all your flights.
Came in a flat envelope. First look - looks like a high end head band. First fit: Fits snuggly round my head and oh hey contours that fits the eye area perfectly and 100% comfort. Goes all around the head so no tugging on the ears. I selected the black colored sleep mask to match my black toiletry pouch. Folds into a compact size for stashing away.
Hidden pocket for ear plugs which is awesome because I keep losing them. Stashing it away in my carry on bag so that I have it on all my travels. Lightweight and light blocking.

Premium quality sleep mask, but has flaws.
This Away sleep mask is nice to have while traveling. It feels decently comfortable with a soft-feeling nylon material on the inside of the mask. It also has cutouts for your eyes to prevent excessive pressure on your eyelids. However, the sleep mask is a bit finnicky to adjust and may not block light out entirely on smaller heads or different head shapes. Overall, the quality is good, and it's a premium product at a premium price point. However, it just runs a little warm when wearing it for extended periods of time and it may not block light out 100% even when adjusted.

Sleek travel sleep mask
This is such a sleek, classy eye mask! I love how it even matches my Away toiletry bag, which makes me absurdly happy. I’ve always loved this brand because everything feels high-quality and well-designed, and this mask is no exception. The fabric feels smooth and comfortable, and it just has that polished look that makes me imagine flight attendants using it between trips.
It has an interesting feature I haven’t seen before: a little built-in pocket so the mask can fold into itself. I’m not entirely sure folding it makes a huge difference in space, but it’s neat that it tucks away so cleanly. Maybe it helps keep it cleaner in your bag, or maybe it’s just a fun design quirk. Either way, I think it’s cool…once I figured out how to fold it, which took me a minute so I’m adding a picture of what it looks like folded :)
Overall, it’s comfortable, well-made, and has that understated, high-end travel vibe I love. Definitely a nice little luxury for flights or hotel stays.

Bad design
I really wanted to like the Away Sleep Mask since I’ve had good experiences with their luggage, but unfortunately, this was a total miss for me. The idea behind the design is solid—thermoregulating, contoured for blackout, and even a little earplug pocket—but in practice, it just didn’t work.
First off, the mask is too large for my head and doesn’t fit securely. The strap has some stretch, but it’s not adjustable enough to get a snug, comfortable fit. Because of that, it shifted around during the night and let in light, which defeats the purpose of a blackout mask. For how big it is, I expected it to block light better.
It’s soft to the touch, which is a plus, but it also felt warm and a bit bulky on my face—not breathable or cooling like I had hoped. For the price, I expected something that felt more tailored and luxe, but the overall look and feel just didn’t justify the cost. It's a great concept and nicely packaged, but the execution really fell short.

Uncomfortable fit and ineffective design that fails at blocking light.
This mask is hot, smothering, and uncomfortable. The contouring around the nose was poorly designed and let in enough light from both sides to be distracting and ineffective. It doesn’t seem to know what to do with the nose area, so it just rests awkwardly and uncomfortably. I would have much preferred a simple nose cutout over the strange half-indentation that blocks no light at all. Lowering the mask only causes pressure on the tip of the nose because the strap isn’t adjustable. It also smelled strongly of offgassing foam, which might have dissipated if left out in the sun for a while, but I shouldn't have to prep a sleep mask, especially as it's something someone would likely buy last minute before a trip.
The mask felt swelteringly hot. I don’t know anything about the technology they claim it uses, and they make no effort to explain the supposed benefits. The nylon is pleasant to touch, but I would have preferred something softer for the interior lining. The lack of adjustability made it uncomfortably tight, and while I feel like I have a normal-sized head, I can’t imagine someone with a larger head being happy with it. The nylon exterior is stretchy and flexible, but whatever elastic the interior strap is made from is not forgiving at all.
It’s technically neat that the mask can fold into itself, but that feature just makes it bulkier and harder to store. You end up with a tennis ball-sized lump instead of a flat mask you can easily toss into a carry-on or suitcase. The earplugs pocket feels like a gimmick, especially since it doesn’t include any earplugs to demonstrate the feature. I feel that using the pocket while also folding the mask would only add more bulk.
While not relevant to the mask itself, the presentation and packaging were shockingly bad for something this expensive. It came in a plain cardboard envelope with just the brand name in the corner. Mine arrived with weird greasy stains on the envelope, which I assume wasn’t intentional but made the product look worse. Inside, the mask was shoved into an already torn plastic bag. It includes a card with a diagram showing how to fold the mask into itself, but no other useful information.

cozy soft, covering ears and eyes
I actually use these for sun tanning or lounging outside and this works perfect for that. It has ultra smooth padding all around so it will be comfortable on any surface a bench or a plane seat. And it's THICK I didn't know how thick this would be but I'm happy with how it feels. The back of it has some stretchiness to it, and can stretch pretty good as well, it's supposed to be somewhat tight. On the inside, there's 2 decently sized cutouts for your eyes and one little indent for the nose which I found doesn't do much and even lets a little light in, doesn't feel the best touching my nose. But the best thing, which would be perfect for my next airplane trip is that when it covers your ears, it first feels like almost nothing is there, but it also helps block out a little bit of humming or tiny noises so everything helps, I might even put a headphone over it. The materials are great with polyester temperature regulating fabric. In terms of how I think of it, for this, I can either go out and get a pillow or get this for the same. This does feel like a pillow when using, though it's smaller it's definitely comfy and the fabric is great, blackout any light except for if you have your nose touching the bottom. If it fits you better it would be worth it.

Nice mask, but I'm missing the premium quality and temperature control
If you want to get it, go for it, but you shouldn't expected to perform any better than an eye mask that costs $10 to $20.
TEMP REGULATION
The manufacturer claims that the mask will help you to feel cooler if you're hot and warmer if you're cold or something like that. It's an impressive claim to make and, not really surprisingly, the mask doesn't really live up to the hype in my opinion. It might feel cooler than some other fabrics when I'm hot, but it really doesn't make a significant difference as far as I can tell. I can't really speak to its effects when I'm cold since we're in the middle of summer heat right now, but one would assume that anything that blocks the heat from escaping your body would likely make you feel a little warmer. I'm really not sure what kind of technology this 37.5 stuff is supposed to be, but it sounds like something that absorbs moisture. It seems like the number 37.5 comes from the fact that it is supposed to help "you maintain a comfortable personal microclimate relative humidity of 37.5%."
CONTOURING
The eyes are contoured and I don't have a problem with it pressing against my eyelids, but the contouring around the nose is not quite so successful. Because the mask is just a single piece of foam covered with fabric, the mask does not conform to the contours of my nose. There is definitely light that comes around the mask on either side of my nose. It's not so much light that it would really affect my getting to sleep, but if I put my fingers under the mask to block the light, I can see a very slight difference even with closed eyes. In a very bright room, it might actually affect how easily someone can fall asleep. The nose area is also a problem because the edge of the mask does press against my nose which makes the mask a bit less comfortable than it would otherwise be.
SIZE
I have a large head and I don't have a problem getting this mask around my head. It has an elastic strap so it will fit a wide variety of adult head sizes, but there's no way to adjust the strap. I think the one problem that might be made worse because of the size of the mask is how it presses against the bridge of my nose. I suspect that if my head were slightly smaller, I might have less trouble in the nose area.
POCKETS
There is a large pocket on one side of the mask which allows you to fold up the mask into the pocket. There is a page that comes with a mask with some rather cryptic diagrams on how to do this. There's also a small pocket on the other side at the top where you can put foam ear plugs. Please note that the mask does not come with any earplugs.
PRESENTATION
I hate to criticize a product too much based on the manufacturer's presentation and packaging, but it really is lacking in this case. For what they are trying to sell as a premium product, I was very surprised at how cheap it initially looked. The manufacturer has put these in bubble wrap-lined mailing envelopes that are printed with the Away name. It's just that I expected something a little better and more professional-looking. If you're giving this mask is a gift, you may wish to repackage it before you give it to the recipient.

Something Is Wrong, Very, Very Wrong
My first impression was absolutely terrible as soon as I sort of opened the package. Now I know what you're asking yourself, how does someone "sort of open a package?" The plastic wrapping felt so old, that it fell apart just touching it. Taking it out of the envelope that gave it a bit of rigidity in the mail, it already had cuts in it, the slightest touch and the rest crumbled. While taking the mask out, I smelled this extreme stench that came from the mask. I have no idea what it is and it was BAD!!!
The mask looks brand new, so I don't think it was a return or anything. No signs of any wear.
As for the mask itself. I don't like it. It let's in too much light by the nose as it doesn't properly conform to my face. It's also a bit tight on my huge head. That may be a me problem, but it's also not adjustable at all, which is a design problem.
I do think it's pretty cool that it can be folded into its own storage pouch, but at the same time, it makes it pretty bulky compared to when it's fully opened.
Based on the product I received, I can't recommend it in any way.

Not adjustable
I found this eye mask very comfortable! My husband with a giant head found it claustrophobic. This eye mask is not adjustable in any way, so if your head is smaller or larger than average, it may not be comfortable for you. However, I have an average sized head and I think it's awesome. Something about it going over your ears makes it so cozy! Also great for holding in my airpods. It's snug and the little crevices for your eyes and nose keep it from being too tight. There are two small pockets, however neither are zippered so I wouldn't put anything too valuable in them. I would say you're paying for the brand name, but I love everything I have from Away!
