The Smallbox is like a Marshall plexi in a box with a usable EQ section. At 3/4 gain (gain switch -hi) - knobs not too far from noonish - It sounds classic rock by itself. A TS boost will yield an 80's tone. A regular boost fattens the existing gain structure. Together for hi gain chunk ( not nu -metal ). I've had other M.I.B. pedals - Carl Martin, REVV etc. But this one sounds more natural to me. BTW, I play a stratocaster & a super strat through Quilter Interblock amp & Eminence Maverick speaker.

My 1st fav drive pedal of 2021
Just recieved it earlier this evening.
I've been eyeing the Smallbox since it came out but was trying not to buy any new pedals for now. But after seeing a demo on youtube by Michael Nielsen I was officially sold and had to try it for myself. I'm glad I did.
This thing sounds glorious for a pedal that doesn't even have a tube in it. Really is amp like.
I brought out the velcro and put it on my practice board right away.
