WHAT A BREEZE

The fan is gorgeous, well made and balanced. There’s no wobbling, squeaking or adjustments to be make. The installation is truly easy and can be mounted by one person in about 30 mins or 45 to one hour for a person with little skills.

Highly recommended!

Super annoying

So I’m writing this review as we have the electrician here for the third time… beautiful fan BUT major issues with the receiver frequency and remote functions. The learning mode set on this can make everything more complicated. Remote switch is good, wall switch is good… we’re in real time being told that it might be the receiver or the motor is bad. It took him to turn off the power, turn on, reset, relearn, took down the fan, took it apart, reset the dip switches, and still having issues. I think I have to write this now… don’t buy this fan. It doesn’t cover warranty for the motor (probably because Minka Aire knows their motors are bad) this is total BS.

Great modern fan

Great looking fan! Installation was super easy (if you’ve installed a ceiling fan before). This is a much higher quality fan that the basic Hampton Bay stuff at Home Depot. If you are looking for a “high end” look at not so high end prices, this fan is it. The “smart fan” and app for it is kind of waste and I do not see the need for a smart fan, but the overall product quality is excellent.

Awesome fan - but some issues

Was difficult to decide between this fan -Molino and the Skyhawk. This was a gift for my wife so I polled two female coworkers and they both preferred the Skyhawk. However when it came time to purchase my wife thought the Skyhawk looked like an airplane propeller. So Molino it was! They look similar and I thought the Skyhawk would be easier to clean dust but the Molino has more visual interest with the metal fan blade brackets. I don’t regret my decision at all because this fan looks very upscale and not cheap looking like what you typically see at your local hardware store. This is also a modern “smart” fan that has an app (Minka partnered with Bond Home) which is an excellent app. You can also create a Siri shortcut if you want for voice control. I have to admit, it’s kinda cool to lay in bed and say “Hey Siri, turn on the fan” or say “Hey Siri, fan speed 3” or even “Hey Siri, reverse fan direction”. You can actually map any phrase you prefer for these commands which is cool. Like if you’re a New Yorker you could say “Hey Siri, fagetaboutit” and turn your fan off. Haha But seriously this is not the same old fashioned ceiling fan from your childhood. This fan has a DC motor, (old fans were all AC motors) and DC means quiet which is a good thing. The only thing you hear is the breeze which actually adds to the overall perception of upscale quality of this fan. I did have a brief moment of concern as the fan was making a rubbing/scraping sound at first but that thankfully went away on its own.

Pros:

Very pretty- Looks more expensive than it is

Dead silent

Wall control optional -WC1000 (I recommend it)

LED light is very bright and dimmable

LED light remembers your last dim setting so you don’t have to constantly adjust it

Reverse direction from remote/wall control/app (old fashioned fans required you to flip a switch on the fan itself - not so with this modern DC fan which is an awesome bonus!)

Bond Home App is awesome and also allows you to control your fan by Siri voice control. (Minka partnering with Bond was a very good decision because it’s not a crap app made by fan people. Let fan people do fans and let Bond do home automation - smart move Minka)

Cons: (in order of annoyance)

#1. The Wall Control. The optional Wall Control has a very bright blue LED that doesn’t turn off. (This is very annoying - Everyone complains about it so knock it off Minka! ) Also, Minka decided to ship the remote with all the dip switches in the off position but they ship the wall control with all the dip switches in the on position. (So until this discovery I thought I was going crazy, sync the wall control lose your remote, re-sync your remote and lose your wall control - Minka, Just agree on a factory dip switch standard! ***update** The Minka WC1000 wall control already died after two days. I now have to return it.

#2. The Fan Light. The fan light gives off a poor quality of light and appears to be a very low CRI rating with a narrow beam. It gives off the same harsh poor quality light as you would expect from a flashlight. It’s literally as if you hung a flashlight from your ceiling. Not a dealbreaker for me because I already have recessed lighting in this room. However, someone looking to use this fan as their primary light will be disappointed. Sure it’s bright enough and it’s dimmable, but it’s a horrible light quality. This should actually be a major concern for Minka as most people center ceiling fans in their room in place of a light. If I didn’t have recessed lighting I would seriously consider returning this beautiful fan on account of this harsh (obviously low CRI) light quality. It’s really bad.

#3. Parts Availability. I wanted to use the 3.5” downrod but it’s backordered for 4-6 weeks. I was tempted to cut and drill the 6” downrod but decided against it. Come on Minka! I’m not saying include all downrods but they aren’t expensive so throw in the shortest downrod - 3.5” and perhaps even a 12”. Giving your customers three downrod options would be awesome and not cost you anything really. Instead you only offer one 6” downrod and then you don’t keep up with your inventory causing unreasonable back order delays. Also, it now appears that after my WC1000 wall control broke they are out of stock everywhere so can’t replace.

So there it is... should I knock off a star for these cons? I think I have to honestly because as I write this review and his damn blue LED is blinding me!

***update** The wall control unit broke but wouldn’t you know it... that damn blue light is still on! Haha

Overall awesome fan with some issues.

*** another update 2/15/21 ***

The fan noise (rubbing/scraping sound) returned again and then went away again. If this continues to be an intermittent issue I will be returning this fan. Going to give it my full return window to let it work itself out. If it doesn’t stop it’s going back which would suck because I like the fan. I can deal without a wall control and a poor fan light, but I can’t handle a subtle yet annoying rubbing sound.
