A Labor of Love which requires work

I love these two books. This Pattern Book and her Theory book. I do not know how you could truly use one without the other. And that’s to my point. I feel the Theory book is a great place to start, but about triads, you should shift to the Pattern book. Both these books need to be compiled, reorganized and updated for them to go from great to the very best. This set is one of the best in tackling the subject, aside from the old Mel Bay Bass books you can get from the mid sixties at your favorite rusty bookstore.

I would ABSOLUTELY recommend it to a friend or fellow student. Get the friction pens she recommends and either photocopy the area maps or create them yourselves in the computer. Then sit down, bass at your side, and put in that work. Scalar studies!!!

I’m glad I found this book set. Buy both. Buy the spiral bounds.

Lastly, I find the pattern wall chart available at cost a more useful tool than the music theory poster.

Great book

Great book looking forward to working through it

Intriguing, motivating, rewarding

I seek out Ariane Cap’s bass instruction everywhere I can find it. The Pattern System for the Bass Player is true to her approach to teaching: meticulous, rigorous, challenging, fun, creative, and ultimately so rewarding to work (and play!) with. In this book, along with the intriguing pattern system itself, Ari is generous with in-depth helpful practice tips, and musical insights that continue to help me on my way to playing the bass with the fluidity I dream of. Absolutely will open your mind to unlimited possibilities

With this book Ariane Cap will change the way you think about your bass. I am just beginning the connection exercises and I am so much more comfortable exploring and discovering new things. This system requires serious study. You will have all the info you need in print and video but you will need to write out every key in every area and you will need to play them ascending, descending, starting from the lowest note in the scale, starting from the tonic. If you are willing to put in the work, this method will blow your mind. Improvisation is a part of every lesson so you apply what you learn. I also belong to a group study which is relaxed and really fun. Ariane is a great instructor and very accessible. I highly recommend this book!

Trying to sell more of her services through a book

The book starts off well intended and gives the reader full written exercises to study. But after chapter 3 the exercises Ari gives you have a small amount of information on the exercise then ECT. is written for you to extrapolate from what little information she has given you.

But she gives you a video to which the full exercise is shown. In all of the videos presented she runs very quickly through the exercise without any further explanation. Or even going a little bit slower for her readers so they can see what she is actually doing. I attached a video of her running through one of the exercises she presents.

To access the videos you sign up via email so every week she sends emails to “join her practice groups online” which cost hundreds of dollars to join. Or have private practice lessons with her for even more money.

So seemingly I purchased an incomplete book for 45 dollars plus shipping and handling which is just one big advertisement to buy more products from Arianne Cap.
