Several Important Parts Missing – Incomplete Package
I was excited to receive this drum set, but unfortunately several important parts were missing. The product did not include the Charleston stand, the crash cymbal stand, and the cymbal. Because of these missing components, the drum set cannot be assembled or used properly. I hope the manufacturer can improve quality control to ensure all parts are included in the product.

Beautiful set and sound is Excellent!
My son loves it! Wasn’t expecting symbols because it’s clearly stated that they’re not included so I don’t understand why so many people expected symbols regardless of the pictures. He already has his own and we knew exactly what we were getting.

The cheap China mfg process for chrome or black plating the hardware is very subpar...
1st the cheap Remo Junk heads that come on them... then the fact the 90% of my black hardware has rust bubbling up under it in less that 2 years is very disappointing exp for my 1st DW/PDP drum kit... and if they didn't send extra lugs and lug receivers you wouldn't be able to play the first day you set them up.. I found 7 stripped out lugs on my kit...

It's a DW Performance series kit!
Only differences are dual turret lugs, Not a DW quality snare drum, and built offshore. Otherwise it carries the name of DW justly. This is an absolute gem, worth twice the price. if you're in the market for a professional level product, this is just that. I cant imagine PDP/DW is going to continue offering this for much longer, I can imagine the concept series is bleeding sales off of the Performance series and design series of DW kits.
Get it. You wont regret it. just dont get blue/turqoise fade, that color's mine.

Amazing Kit for the Price
This is my second PDP kit. The first being a 10 year old FS series birch kit. The major difference in tone between birch and maple blows my mind. So much darker and warmer. Birch sounds great, don't get me wrong. But maple just sounds even better, afaiac.
The shipment arrived on two different days. But only half of it showed up. Much to my surprise, UPS delivered the second half in a raging snow storm while I was out clearing my driveway! A lot of people talk trash about shipping these days but I have nothing but positive things to say about our drivers here in VT. Props!
Once everything arrived, I swapped out heads to some Evans G2's. I have yet to order a hydraulic for the 16" floor tom so I used the factory 7mil. It does sounds pretty awesome with just the factory heads, I will say. I used the resos all around, just because 7mil is 7mil. No matter what brand you use, they generally perform the exact same.
The snare had one lug that wouldn't tighten at all. It seems the threads of the swivel nut were over cut in production. The tension rod would not get purchase and tighten enough to tune. Luckily, PDP/DW included 6 extra swivel nuts and 8 tension rods (6 regular and 2 for the kick) - while not brass like the original one, the snare was able to be tuned after a head swap. It's decent. It won't replace my 10 ply, 10 lug OCP 14x5.5, nor my collection of maple Ludwigs, but the snare would do in a pinch. I contacted PDP customer service via email about the swivel nut and am awaiting a reply. Will update on that later.
All around, I wanted a nice wood grain kit that wasn't going to break the bank. I also wanted to be able to build whatever configuration I wanted, hence going with a 7 piece. I can make a 2 piece out of a 7, I can make a 6 piece out of a 7, 4 piece, etc, etc. I won on all fronts. The finish is superb all around, the workmanship seems to be on par with any other mid priced intermediate kit I've seen/owned. The shell interiors are sanded and smooth. All the hardware was tight as well. I checked. Out of previous experience, I checked. All good on that, too.
I will say that one of the straps for the snare was also not properly installed. It was tilted off to one side of the butt plate and at a severe angle. It was not sitting flat as it rounded over the edge. Both screws of the buttplate were tight enough so it was set like that. Poor QC on the snare. However, I didn't buy this kit for the snare. I bought it for the rest of maple shells.
One reviewer made note of poorly milled bearing edges. I completely disagree. I use a Drum Dial and had no issues whatsoever getting everything tuned. With the exception of the one bad swivel nut, this was the easiest kit tune I've had yet. I thought my Ludwig Elements birch was easy until this thing came along. It holds well, too. Everything held up well during my first three days breaking it in and getting used to it. No major detunes at all. No loose tension rods, and the kick drum. WTF does the kick drum sound amazing. I purchased the plate to close up the hole on top and haven't ported it yet. Not sure I will. It's by far my favorite kick drum sound I've had.
Would I recommend this kit? Absolutely. If they make one in satin finish I'll probably break down and get one of those, too. It's worth it.

Excellent Value for LIVE OR STUDIO players!
Great looking and sounding kit for the money. No reason to spend more on expensive $$$ brands or models. This set tunes easily and stays in tune. I do suggest immediately replacing the factory heads for gigging drummers. Pinstripes or G2s sound nice. You can play all styles on this kit. It also sounds great in the recording studio. I was so impressed with this kit that actually bought a second set for another geographic recording location. To see this product used in a professional application visit: REVERSEDUNK.COM

Poor craftsmenship
I bought this set through guitar center and was very disappointed. Problems right out of the box.
1. One tom came with the wrong hoops. They were a different lug pattern. Luckily the drum tech at guitar center was very helpful and switched em out for me.
2. There was a crack on the bass drum. When contacting PDP/DW they said it was cosmetic when it was clearly body/shell damage. Very little help from the manufacturer. I was very disappointed with Dan's help in customer service. I got the runaround was left waiting for a response.
3. The bearing edges were uneven. I was having a hard time tuning this set and couldn't figure out why there where so many overtones. After trying a couple of different head types I finally checked the bearing edges. They were uneven/not square. I don't know if you know anything about bearing edge on drums but I've learned that they can be a really big problem.
If it weren't for the guys at Guitar Center I'd still be dealing with DW. Fortunately I was able to return it through Guitar Center Pro coverage. I got my money back and I'm now waiting for a Mapex Armory set. Mapex seems to be the only drum company that's even concerned with bearing edges. We'll see.
I'm sure PDP/DW make wonderful sets. I may have just gotten a bad one. My first set is a PDP Z5 and it has its issues but that's what I expected from a starter set. I won't be buying from PDP/DW anymore based on their customer service alone. Guitar Center is still cool though

DW sound, PDP price
The sound of this kit is excellent. One of my mentors had a PDP set I used to play on and I've always wanted one for myself. Sounds just like I remember. I replaced the snare drum with a smaller one from PDP I already had because I prefer a higher, snappy sound, but the included snare is okay. The tom mount is great because it has an extra mount slot. I used it for a splash (see photos). I love the black hardware, however, it collects dust like nobody's business. The Mapex Armory black series snare and cymbal stands pair great with this set. If you're looking for a metal kit, look no further!

The quality is great for the investment
This kit is incredible !! The quality is great for the investment. I have been playing a Ludwig kit that is ok, but these are really higher quality. The finish and hardware are very nice, and maple is a plus also.
