Great Security System, Just Needs Occasional Charging

Overall, I’m very happy with my Ring security system\. It’s easy to set up, works reliably, and the video quality and app features are excellent\. The only downside is that the batteries need to be recharged periodically, which can be a little inconvenient\. Other than that, everything works great\. Definitely recommend\!

Mandatory subscription

Now they rewuire a mandatory subscription just to be able to activate or disarm the alarm from the app. This wasn't required when i installed it in my previous house 3 yrs ago. It should be clearly stated in the description or pictures of the alarm system.

Definitely worth the price for the whole kit

Definitely worth the price still learning to use the app because came from simply save that app seem a lot more user-friendly like how to set settings like it seems you need to set things kind of weird and go to different areas, but I would recommend it if you text savvy bought the tote camera definitely a plus it does move around like when you’re at home and not working when I see your house to see what’s going on at home I think it’s a good addition, especially if you have pet pets definitely a reasonable price. I bought two more assembly to save cameras and six more sensors for other doors and windows if necessary overall seems like a good camera. The pan tail camera, but I bought the two stationary ones for my room because really small room we don’t need to really pan around it much. The two ring cameras were like going for $25 apiece. I want two pack. I think that was a reasonable deal. I got six sensors for $30. That was also a good Black Friday deal would recommend great customer service with Ring. People are really nice and chatting is really quick for support.

Easy for elderly

I have a ring but needed another set for my guest house. This works well. My mom can easily use it and she feels safe.

Product came with permanent oil impregnated plastic keypad no.5.

The outer shell had minor scratches or stains from usage, but what made me return this refurbished product was the keyboard No.5 key had a very clear, or rather shining coat of plastic-impregnated finger oil, possibly indicating the previous owner password was 5555555555555555555555555. My computer keyboards gets this permanent oil coating after 6 months of heavy usage. I cant fathom how the previous owner managed to do this in a single number. Anyways, i dont want intruders to clearly see what buttons are pressed and which aren’t. Didn’t bother plugging in to test the equipment since I already knew I wasn’t keeping it so no comments on its functionality.

Amazing!

Looks great! Super easy to set up, adhesive sticks perfectly, noise when opening doors to signal it opened, it even came with a sticker to say the house is protected by ring! It puts me at ease knowing my home is protected! Amazing quality!

Don't forget you must pay subscription to use the best features

The itens are great and works very well. They only negative point from RING is having to pay every month to use it.

Amazing Customer

App completely useless unless you buy subscription

I originally purchased a Ring alarm setup for my elderly father’s house in Feb 2024. It was easy to setup, easy to use the app (armed, disarmed, away, get alerts, etc) - really great. It was so great that in May 2024, we decided to get the same kit for our home which I also installed easily.

The app is actually very easy in this regard bc you can add multiple homes and toggle between them with a drop-down function - very clean and very good. However, for my personal house, I was not able to use the app at all or receive any alerts because i was not on a “Ring Protect Plan” (which starts at $10/month). Believing this was a glitch since I had the same setup on both homes and had functionality in one house and not the other, I called Ring tech support today and I was told that the first system I bought was on a “legacy plan” and the second was not. The tech support person reiterated that “the same functions that used to be free are now not.” When I asked how that could change in just 4 months I was told that I was sold an outdated system (from Ring) in Feb 2024, but in May 2024 I was sold an upgraded system.

To be clear, these two systems are exactly the same- there are no additional features or functions from one to the other. The only difference I can see is, what was once free (included when you buy the hardware) is now $10/month, which Ring’s tech support confirmed today. You will not be able to use the app at all unless you also buy a monthly plan. You will not be able to disarm, arm or indicate you are home unless you buy a monthly plan. You will not be able to tell what status your home is in unless you buy a monthly plan. You will not get any alerts unless you buy a monthly plan. All of these features used to be free (and still are on my father’s plan) but are no longer free.

If, for example, you are using the Ring system for the home of an elderly person who might forget their code and has to call you when it goes off to disarm it, you should not buy this unless you are also willing to pay the Ring Protect Plan fee, otherwise you will not be able to disarm the system remotely.

Given the drop in quality, I cannot recommend buying a Ring system when they will not let you use any of the technology or even send a text or app alert (all of which used to be free) unless you buy a monthly plan.

Great overall alarm

Very easy to install. Do it yourself and just follow easy instructions. Great addition to all our indoor and outdoor Ring Cameras. We were paying $55 a month elsewhere and now only $16.67 a month to get professional monitoring. You can also not pay for Professional monitoring if you wish to do so.

Customizable, Reliable, and Affordable: Why I Love My Ring Alarm 8-Piece Kit

I recently purchased the Ring Alarm 8-piece kit and I am absolutely thrilled with my purchase. This home security system is exactly what I was looking for to protect my home and loved ones.

The 8-piece kit includes everything you need to get started, including a base station, a keypad, three contact sensors, a motion detector, and a range extender. Setting everything up was a breeze and I was able to start protecting my home within minutes. The contact sensors come with a strong adhesive backing which allows for a solid attachment anywhere in the home. The base station's design is sleak and also has the ability to be mounted on a wall although I chose to place mine on my TV console table. The range extender is the simplest to set up, you just plug it into any plug in your home. All components are easily set up using the Ring app

I also love that the system is completely customizable. I was able to add as many sensors as I needed to cover every entry point in my home, and I also decided to add the optional 24/7 professional monitoring for an extra layer of protection. This means that even when I'm not home, I can have peace of mind knowing that my home is being watched over by experts.

The system has already proven to be very reliable. The base station is equipped with a built-in siren. If the alarm is armed, once any of the sensors are triggered the siren will sound and I receive notifications on my phone or tablet, so I'm always aware of what's happening at home. With professional monitoring they also contact your local law enforcement.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the affordability of the Ring Alarm 8-piece kit. It's much cheaper than many other home security systems on the market, and it's a great value for the price. I feel like I got everything I needed to protect my home for a very reasonable price.

The main downside that I see with the system is that it does not fully integrate with the ring doorbell. Although they are connected together, you cannot use the base station as a chime for your ring doorbell or as a notification center.

In conclusion, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase of the Ring Alarm 8-piece kit. It's easy to use, customizable, reliable, and affordable, and I would highly recommend it to anyone in need of a home security system. I am confident that this system will keep my home and loved ones safe, and I am thrilled to have made such a smart investment.

Absolutely horrible don’t waste your time get a real system

The ring system is absolutely HORRIBLE. The ring door bell dies every 2 weeks and takes 10 hours to charge. But even after that it’s never online!! Every time I turn around it claims the signal is weak and won’t show the camera footage which I’ve paid for!! Tech support is also useless and they force you to use the community forums which is just a bunch more people with the same complaints and no resolve. I’ve also had phantom doorbell rings which is CREEPY! And the actual security system is a JOKE! I’ve walked in the house countless times forgetting to disarm the system and HOURS later it finally alerts me of an intrusion. If you’re looking to secure your home DO NOT PURCHASE THIS SYSTEM. I’m going with Viviant

super simple to install and use

I think maybe apple started this but kudos to Ring for their packaging. Everything is neatly packed in its own box, making it easy to take out only what you need, piece by piece. I already have several Ring cameras and so I decided to stick with them for the alarm. The fact that I could add more sensors as and when I needed was a big plus. I've never seen a door fit flush, there's always the door frame that extends out. As a result, if your doors open inwards, you can't line up the door sensors without an 'extender' which is sold separately. This doesn't affect functionality since the sensors seem to work at anything up to an inch apart, but aesthetically it doesn't look right (see picture). The set up is super simple. Firstly set up the base station by following the instructions. Take a sensor, pull out the plastic tab to connect the battery. Stick the sensor in place and then open the app. It will have already found the sensor since it seems the base station is pre-programmed with the sensors it ships with so no need to do any barcode scanning etc. So far I've not had any false alarms, dropped sensors, or errors.

Super simple set up

Super simple set up, just pulled the battery block tag and the system saw each sensor. Alexa integration was almost automatic. Sensors don’t have to be aligned perfect (in one picture because of the window pane I have it at a 90° angle and it still works perfect).

While I haven’t had to call tech support the one time we set it off, the monitoring station called very quickly and my sister gave them the secure phrase and they canceled the police.

App set up was amazingly smooth

Very Disappointed. App is terrible. Not worth the money.

I have 15 ring devices in my house in all (doorbell pro, cameras, chime pro, lights, motion sensors, door and window sensors, myQ garage door opener, etc).

And the experience is extremely underwhelming to say the least.

I wanted to upgrade my home security once I bought my house, without spending a fortune per month. I had 2 Blink cameras at my formerly rented house, and they delivered serious bang for the buck. The app was intuitive, cameras were efficient, and no monthly cost for a small/decent amount for protection or cloud storage.

Ring is a bloated, clunky, and cost ineffective system. Don’t get me wrong, there are things I like about Ring. However, the negatives CLEARLY outweigh the benefits for the price.

Let’s start with the Pros:

1. Key pad and base are responsive and easy to install and use. Very loud when set off. Big plus!

2. Window/Door open sensors work great and chime immediately alerting you when armed. With 3 different customizable settings.

3. Installation and connection was a breeze, even though a little too “step by step and laid out for dummies” for my taste, but I get it. It’s foolproof.

Cons:

1. Maybe this is my fault for not reading into the cameras and service before purchase, but if you want even minimal or cloud recording AT ALL. You better be willing to pay up PER MONTH, and I’m a chump because I did.

2. I have fiber gigabit+ internet and mesh extenders (even a Ring Wi-Fi signal extender) and a top of the line router, and these cameras are SLOOOOW to upload and respond and sometimes error out.

3. The motion detection on the cameras are all over the place no matter how much you tweak the zones or sensitivity. Honestly it’s a total crapshoot what registers and what doesn’t.

4. I get double notifications to my phone for EVERYTHING that has notifications turned on. “Tech” Support says it is because I have an Apple Watch, and that just isn’t true. I’ve disconnected and forgot my Apple Watch from my phone settings and that isn’t the issue. Support says it is because of “Rich notifications”. Yeah, no. I’ve never turned that on. So why do I get double notifications? Going on 1 1/2 years and no solution.

5. BIGGEST ISSUE. And if you’ve read this far and/or thinking about investing in the Ring ecosystem, this should be a big one for you as well.

This app is completely unintuitive, it is clunky and the interface is so poorly designed, and it should be scrapped. The live view from motion detection notification takes so long to load (Wi-Fi or 5G) that the event that causes said motion is most likely over. And a slider to see past events? Really not a list format? Terrible, frustrating, and embarrassingly bad UI (user interface).

Look. There are some decent aspects of this “Ring Ecosystem “ but it is so unintuitive and difficult that it just doesn’t seem worth it anymore. I work on servicing and repairing all sorts of tech in the medical field and I know how to troubleshoot electronics and have tried so hard to make this work for me, but I have finally reached the proverbial realization of the “Sunken Cost Fallacy” and need to cut the line.

Don’t be a chump like me. Look elsewhere.

So far so good

Set up was easy. I didn’t need help at all. No technical issues so far. I love the notification and the neighborhood alerts. I would definitely recommend.

Brandon

Pretty Cool

So far so good has worked as advertised. I had to make some minor modifications to get the sensors to fit in my windows. Just took the magnet out of the casing and hot glued it to the window for it to work. Easy fix to make everything work. Alarm is loud enough to annoy my neighbors when it goes off so it’s solid. Works flawlessly with Alexa to arm and disarm. The app is hideous to look at and navigate is my only complaint.

I'm fed up with the Ring Alarm system failures, NO MORE RING CRAP!!!

I'm so angry at this point but I'll try to write an honest review about my Ring alarm system experience. In June of 2020, I purchased a complete Ring alarm set which included the Base Station, 2 Keypads, 2 motion sensors a range extender and 6 contact sensors in addition to a couple of aftermarket glass break, water detection and temperature sensors which are Z-wave compatible. Since that time, I've had 1 Keypad fail and 2 contact sensors, one of which failed completely and another that eats up batteries at a rate of once a month. A third contact sensor for another door also eats up batteries but at a slower rate. The first keypad was replaced at no charge by Ring but I had to purchase 2 new contact sensors to replace the short life defective ones.

Last night 11/22/2021, my wife went to set the previously replaced front keypad for the night and that one is completely dead now. It’s definitely not a discharged battery problem because they were recently charged. At this rate most of the Ring junk should fail by next year, it’s just a matter of time. I need a security system you can depend on to work without so many failures. My daughter has a SimpliSafe brand purchased before mine with just as many accessories and it has been absolutely trouble free with no failures. I don't know if I just received a batch of defective items or I have to look forward to more problems in the future! Anyone contemplating installing a new Ring Alarm system in their home please beware of its long term durability at protecting your home!!!

Update 02/22/2022

Well here it is February 22, 2022 and yet another keypad has failed to function. This time it’s the back door keypad. This makes 3 failed Ring keypads! As previously stated an original one was replaced by Ring under warranty. That one later failed again and now the back door keypad. They are working fine one minute and then “boom” completely dead! No warning of impending failure or any other indication! What the heck is going on with this Chinese manufactured stuff! Well now that was a dumb statement, Chinese made equals garbage. Bear in mind I purchased this Ring alarm system June 1st 2020 and installed it about a week later. In addition to failed keypads are the failing Ring contact sensors. Boy, did I make a mistake buying this stuff! I’m old enough to remember items made in America lasting for many, many, many years! I suppose I’m expecting too much nowadays from foreign made stuff.

Update 02/27/2022

Let me explain what I found after disassembling my inoperative Ring Generation 2 keypad that was out of warranty as stated above. This was one of the original keypads purchased in June of 2020 which just stopped working as did two other of my Ring keypads. I managed to pop apart the keypad with much difficulty and cracked the housing in the process. Since it was not operating and I considered it junk, I wanted to try and find out why it quit working so suddenly. There are 2 quick disconnect plugs inside the unit, one of which is the battery connection. When I disconnected and reconnected the battery plug the keypad started working again! The only thing I can conclude is the plug had become loose or it had some type of oxidization causing it to have poor contact. This might’ve been a fluke problem but 3 of my Ring keypads had the same trouble in which they worked one minute and the next minute quit working! Maybe there’s something to this finding!

08/25/2022 And the Ring saga continues! Another keypad is acting up! How many does this make, I lost count. I set the alarm before going to bed, it went through the delay countdown, said it was armed and then just stayed red. I've finally decided to replace this thing with a more robust and reliable alarm system, and it WON'T be Ring! Thanks Ring for the 2 year lifespan........

Great System

Super easy to set up and install. Sensors are great as they work over a decent sized gap if needed.

Simple installation, reliable alarm and video integration. Homeowners insurance discount, too.

First off, this 5 piece alarm system has already paid for itself due to the homeowner’s insurance discount due to RING offering 24/7 monitoring for alarm and fire. While it is required you pay for the monitoring service to get the discount, it also provides cloud storage for RING doorbell video and RING camera feeds. The hookup was simple and our house now has motion detection, door/window sensors, camera coverage of the yards and doorbell video from the doorbell. All of which is streamable to our Echo Show and to our mobile devices. This was a reasonably priced alarm system that does 90% of what I was hoping. Some minor downsides are that batteries have to be changed in the sensors a few times a year and that the service is dependent on WiFi, so if you have a WiFi lapse, your RING devices won’t capture/record. Overall though, for the price, the security, the ongoing homeowners discount it provides, and ease of use, this was well worth buying. I posted a picture for reference.

Phenomenal Product and Company

I found my second house broken into (see picture) this last week and had four days to get a security system up and going-they had left my tools in a wheelbarrow in the garage and obviously planned on coming back. After reading review articles on security systems, Ring really stood out. I bought this basic package and two motion sensors/cameras for outdoors. The system is very easy to install and easy to add whatever features you want for your house. Their customer support was also excellent-you actually get to talk to a patient, well trained individual by phone to get everything up and running if needed. One of the greatest things is that not only can you self monitor, but it's only 10 bucks a month for them to monitor also. If you don't want to come home to what I did (the picture above), with many more times as much value in property stolen than what this security system cost, get a Ring system.

Great Alarm System / Cheaper to buy at Costco

So far the Ring Alarm is great! Super easy to set up and easily integrates with Alexa. HOWEVER, if you have a Costco membership buy it there. I bought the 8-piece Ring alarm for $179. I just saw the 10-piece system at Costco (2 extra contact sensors) for only $159 (contact sensors are $20 each).

I highly recommend this system overall!! (Just buy from Costco if you have a membership)

E S

The Ring App Sucks

The system was easy to install. Everything went ok for a day then the outdoor camera started losing wifi connectivity. I was up on a ladder at least once a day for a week resetting the camera so it would function and I could use the app to view the monitored area. During that time I noticed a dark spot that seemed to be growing on the video the camera would record now and then. Enough was enough, I sent the camera back and exchanged it for a new one. That one does not have the same connectivity issues but it still has problems. It doesn't always record when there is motion. It will take a snapshot but won't notify that there is motion. (Probably the app more than the camera)

The app is a horrid mess. Constantly, freezing up or crashing. Half the time it won't connect to the camera. When I called customer support(what a joke) I was told it was my wifi signal and that I should install a extender. Um... I have a mesh system and the camera is on the outside of the wall directly behind the base unit of my wifi system. You can't get any closer. The camera is the only device set to have priority on the Wifi system. Every other item, from my robot vac, thermostat, computers, and tv, has zero problems with staying connected or functioning well with this Wifi system. Only Ring has a problem.

Today, again, the entire ring system has a major outage. Wow. Great security Ring. I pay for monitoring and I don't even know if that is functioning with a major outage. This system is horrible because of the app. You can't control your system without this app and the app is always malfunctioning.

If you buy this system, and I recommend you do not buy it, then get used to seeing what's in the photo when you go to your app and try to do anything with your system.

Completely inexcusable. This is supposed to be a security system. How secure is it if you can't view video recordings of your property or access your cameras and devices because the app is constantly failing.

I bought this system in May 2020 it is now Nov 2020 and this system has been a headache to operate almost daily. And what ever you do don't waste your time with Ring support. They are useless and the customer service is abhorrent. All they will do is tell you that it is your wifi ...that seems to be their standard answer for anything that goes wrong.

Since the product you purchase won't function without the app and the app is constantly failing it is important to note this shortcoming. It doesn't matter how easy the product is to install and use if the method you have to use to run the product constantly fails. It renders the entire system inoperable, easy install or not.

Terrible Support and Sever and the app!!!

I set up the ring 2 weeks ago and found it so good at first. However, from last night History and Push alarm haven't worked.

I googled about it and it advised I should remove the app and restart my phone and reinstall the app.

After doing this, whenever I try to log in, the app says "something went wrong". even though I got the verification code.

Now I keep logging in at the Ring web site. Even it isn't working.

The machines are good. But The web service and the app are terrible!!

Without them, the machines are just trash.

Picture explain

I entered the verificatin code and waiting showed all day long still now.

easy to install and effective

This was the most economic solution to both alarming the doors to my pool, and securing the house. The most difficult issue was securing the contact break devices. If you have rounded trim (as I do) at your doors and windows, the 2-sided tape that come on the units won't help you. I ended up buying Gorilla Glue 2-sided tape, and cutting pieces to secure the device to my molding on the edge, vs. the bottom surface. I also used furniture adhesive pads to build out the contact break device from the surface of the door, to make it align with the piece attached to the molding. While the system might have worked fine without these adjustments, it would not have appealed as much esthetically. The choice of chimes allows me to know exactly which door just opened (very convenient). The base unit is easy to use. The only question will be: how long will the batteries in the contact break devices last?

I’m glad I received it finally to secure my home.

I can’t write a review yet because I just received it yesterday had no time to allow my husband to place it up yet so it’s OK

Gen 2 is a winner in every way

I wanted to replace my 13 y/o ADT system (made by DSC) with something that had WiFi capability. The ADT system was still in excellent shape and very reliable but no way to connect it to the web. I chose the Ring … with the ultimate goal of having a monitoring service. All I can say is that Ring must have squeezed all of their experience and customer input from the first generation to create the 2nd. The engineering is fantastic. The app is as intuitive and solid as you can get. Every sensor/keypad/etc links to the base wirelessly... and are configured by the same Ring app that is used be the doorbell cameras. The app displays every device and sensor along with its status for easy troubleshooting. The door and window contact sensors have LEDs that wink when they're triggered. All sorts of nuggets that build your confidence in the system. The only device that absolutely needs to be plugged into power is the base unit (that also houses the alarm siren). For that, I ran Romex wire up from the outlet below and used a multimedia box to bury the base unit's little wall transformer like you do with TVs (see picture). I went the extra mile and also wired power to the rechargeable keypad (using ADT's original power wire and Ring's 5V USB transformer). Extra goodies: The Gen 2 keypad has emergency buttons (only work if you have the monitoring service). It lights when you approach it. It speaks to you when you arm/disarm it. I armed it "home" and "away" for a week to make sure it was stable (no problems). Then today, I called Ring and signed up for professional monitoring (Ring calls it "Protection Plan"). $100/year. Congratulations to you at Ring.

UPDATE: Limited functionality with door locks.

Still as happy with the Alarm System itself... but ran into a problem when adding a door lock to the mix. Ring's website shows a number of 3rd party locks (Schlage, Yale, Kwikset) that have been "certified" to work with the Ring APP. But be aware that the Ring APP has limited functionality with these locks.

THE RING APP WILL: Lock and unlock the door (you'll need the ZWAVE version of the door lock and have a Ring Alarm Base Station).

THE RING APP WILL NOT: Allow you to change the lock's lock/unlock codes.

Ring's APP has a "Guest feature" that is possibly designed to do that but, as of now (Aug 3, 2020), it does not work (confirmed by Ring).

In summary, Ring has a GREAT APP and Schlage (what I chose) has a GREAT lock... but if you are an Airbnb owner who needs to change codes via the web, this won't do it (maybe in the future?).

Also, if you are thinking you can just jump over to the Schlage APP to get the feature, the ZWAVE version of Schlage's door lock does not work with the Schlage app... I have read that the Schlage APP uses WiFi and thus needs the WiFi version of their door lock... but better check with Schlage.
