Weird reports lately about people coming from the trail in the woods into a back yard with someone’s kid and looking into windows prompted us to purchase a camera for a backyard/tree-line view. The last time I bought a camera for the back porch also shown in the pictures but facing toward the door & vehicles was just the 2k PRO.. the quality on this is obviously way better. I’d even argue the quality beats our 4k OUTDOOR PRO camera. It’s pretty nice. Lighting on this is also MUCH MUCH brighter. It’s no blinding floodlight but it definitely gives enough without being too much.
The only thing I’d say is questionable is the zoom.. leaves a bit to be desired from a 4k camera I think but.. it does the job and you can see enough to know what’s going on and make things out.

Camera recording freezes after most recent firmware update
Ring pushed out firmware and messed these up. Now the recording will freeze after motion events and live view won’t connect. The timeline will show that nothing recorded for hours after they freeze.

Great clarity
Very easy to install once I was able to figure out the mount. I love Ring camera's but what I don't love for these newer models is the lack of instructions on the mount! I would like instructions on a piece of paper in the box on how to install the mount, just to give me an idea of what it looks like step one/two/three. I am semi handy but my husband is much better and always did this stuff very easy, he now has the beginning stages of Alzheimer's and can't. Figuring this out took a minute without a simple instruction in the box. When setting up a Ring doorbell it will ask you what point you are in the installation ie if you have not mounted the camera yet they have a video, I have yet to watch these videos as I did not realize this was available until AFTER I mounted the camera, it would be helpful if that was mentioned on a piece of paper in the box!
Overall I am very happy with this camera. I love that I can zoom in and out with better clarity than our older cameras. This is a great camera, the lights come on when it sees a person which is what we wanted. So far it has picked up every person coming up our walk. This is very easy to install once the mount is figured out. The setup for the actual camera couldn't be easier it has a QR code on the camera which takes you thru every step, updates firmware and starts.
This is a very good camera. I can see all the way down our driveway which are older camera could not do. This is a wide angle giving more vision to our front yard. The lights are welcome as our house is back from the street and can be dark this helps light up the darker part of our walk. We love this camera and believe the price is very good for the quality of this camera and ease to install and use it.

No threads in camera
Just to start this is the third spotlight cam pro Poe I have bought
The first two were perfect however the third was a nightmare the little bracket that mounts too the camera uses a screw and the threads were apparently not cut good enough on the camera so I could not use the middle hole as a result I had to use the mount in the top of camera as u no this is a Poe so I have a 79.00 dollar bracket so to make it work I uses both mounts the one on top to mount it and the middle one just hanging there for Ethernet connection for 319.00 that’s not good

Great Security Camera, does everything well and no battery changing!
I've been wanting an over-the-garage spotlight camera for some time. When Ring finally put out a 4K version, I pulled the trigger. The only "issues" I had was I don't like drilling into my vinyl siding and I didn't want to deal with batteries, especially when a ladder would be involved. I found an adapter mount that works great for the vinyl siding without drilling (doorbellmount dot com), and I had figured I'd run the plug-in line for power through the garage door top to the garage door opener outlet in the ceiling of my garage.
Unfortunately for me, the plug-in power cord that comes with the camera is just oddly sized. I have a standard 7 foot garage door and my placement of the outlet for the garage door opener is roughly 8 1/2 feet from the door wall. The cord is roughly 17 1/2 feet long, but the power brick in the middle is 7'4" from the electrical plug end, and 9'10" from the USB-C plug end. If those measurements had been reversed, it would have worked perfectly, but as it is, I didn't want to attach the power brick to the ceiling, so I just bought a 9-foot extension cord and had a power brick hub where I wanted it on the wall over the garage door (pictured).
Everything works perfectly and installation was a breeze even for a non-tech guy like myself. Centered over my garage door, I can see my entire driveway, my front yard and the start of the driveways of my neighbors left and right of me. 4K quality is very clear day or night, and I can read license plates with ease (I blurred out mine, sorry).
As it is a Ring product, I'm also able to view all Ring Cameras on my home FireTVs (Alexa, show Driveway Cam) and I can also turn the Spotlight on by voice as well as motion (Alexa, turn on Driveway Light). I had a bit of a problem figuring out how to do that, but basically you just use the Ring app to setup a light group first, then use the Alexa app to add a group for your Ring Camera Light. Overall, I'm very happy with the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro. Installation was easy, 4K is great, angles are perfect, and night time visibility is sharp. If I ding a star, it's just because I think they could have put a bit more thought on where the power brick goes on the included power cord... the brick is too close to the electrical plug, they could have made the USB end shorter and the electrical plug end longer.

Trouble with motion
I received "Ring Spotlight Cam Pro, Plug-in (newest model), Home or business security, Retinal 4K with wide-angle video, 10x Enhanced Zoom, and 600 Lumen Spotlights" in white. It comes with the camera, moun, and all the needed hardware and plug. The directions were clear and the camera provides a nice clear picture. The spotlight also works well to light up the yard. I like the light motion setting. The quality seems good, like a durable camera that will last a long time. Overall it does what it is supposed to do but my one complaint is that I can't get the motion detection to work. I've read the manual and tried all the different settings on and off and it never catches motion even when I KNOW there was something happening in the yard. I even adjusted the zones and no difference. I had no problem setting up the motion alerts for my Ring doorbell so I'm not sure what's wrong with this camera. It's a good value for the image quality but not so pleased with the rest since the motion detection is the main reason for installing.

Spotlight cam vs. 4k
Happy with the improvement in image quality.
I added images that are side by side from my two ring cameras which are approximately 24” apart (or less). My older camera is a Ring Spotlight. I still hope to one day to have battery and local storage to not be subject to any wifi jamming software or power outages.
Connectivity has been good. It does connect faster than my other camera. The brightness is significantly better, particularly and dim or low light scenarios. The night vision is nicer. Installation was straightforward. The cable was long enough to reach my garage door opener ceiling plug. If you can afford the spending the money, it is worth it. If you are on a budget, the other cameras might be a better option.

Great New Ring Camera but they don’t make a horizontal mount. (found 1 elsewhere)
This new 4K Spotlight cam pro is much better and quite an improvement over previous generations. I love it. But the only reason I gave it four stars is that Ring does not provide a method of mounting this horizontally under the eaves of your house. A lot of homes have flood lights mounted horizontally under the eaves which make that the perfect “pre wired” spot to replace the flood lights and mount this kind of spotlight camera. Ring has had this issue with their other cameras for years and still have not decided to provide a proper mount to allow this to happen.
But, after much searching on the Internet, I was able to find the perfect solution from a company named “Alexactly”. They make a number of different plastic mounts for exactly these kinds of cameras. On their website, I found their “Slim 90° Single Soffit Mount for Floodlight Cameras” SKU: SL-90x07W. In just a few minutes, I was able to mount it properly, using the ring hardwired kit. So now I am quite happy with the result. See photos of my camera on this mount and another ring model shown mounted under the eaves from the Alexactly website.

Too Many Functions Are Paid Subscription Only
Prior to installing the plug-in version of the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen), first make sure of these four things:
(1) Is there an electrical outlet within 8 feet of where you want to mount the Ring camera? The power cord is longer than that, but vertical runs have to be considered.
(2) Is your wireless router signal strength strong enough at this location?
(3) Are the building surfaces rigid enough to support the camera, power adapter, and cable support clips (i.e., brick or wood)?
(4) Are you willing to pay a monthly fee to use most of the Ring functions?
This may be a good model for someone already familiar with Ring cameras. If you are a new user, like myself, be aware that although a very long warranty and safety document is included, there are no installation or user manuals included. There is not even a parts list except for the mounting hardware. There was one curved plastic plate that I had no idea what to do with since there is absolutely nothing in the box to tell me what it is or how to install it. A very odd and frustrating omission for something so expensive. I finally found a web link on the included hardware sheet to download the full manual online, yet this manual only covered using the mounting hardware to attach the camera and power adapter. There is no user manual available to download.
When unpacking the pieces be careful setting the camera down. The bottom is curved and the camera will fall over if placed on its bottom. It will sit upright on its top though.
The power cord is light-duty and has a Type C USB plug that inserts into the back of the Ring camera. The length of the cord is 17'-8", which I found was much too short for my front door so I had to install the Cam Pro on the other side of my front porch until I can figure something else out. The power cord also isn't a good fit for my vinyl siding, since the vinyl doesn't provide enough support for the cable and the cord looks really ugly hanging off the siding.
The plastic plate turned out to be a cable bracket to secure the power cord, but it only works for a ceiling mount installation. There is no way to secure the power connection with a wall mount installation.
The setup and installation was more time consuming and intrusive than I expected. The first step of the installation was to scan a QR code and download the Ring app to my smart phone. I next had to create an account using my full name, country, email (twice), password with 5 specific rules (hate this), verify my email, and then setup 2-step verification which required my phone number. At this point in the installation I received a "Something went wrong" error stating that a secure connection to the server could not be made. I had to try 3 times before this worked. Setting up a passkey also failed on the initial attempt. The app then required my address for some reason.
The third step was to set up the Ring device. There were a lot of device options, yet after scrolling through and selecting one the app told me to scan the QR code on the camera anyway. The Ring made a loud, annoying sound when it powered up. It was so loud it scared my wife in the next room. It then asked for my WiFi password. The vocal prompts were also extremely loud and I ended up placing my palm over the speaker every time. (This thing needs a volume control!)
It stated that this could be turned off later, but it is On by default and there is no way to skip it during the installation (annoying). I had trouble finding this later in the Settings to actually turn it off and had to go online to find out the option was located under Control Center. There was zero explanation what this function does, but after researching Sidewalk on the internet it sounded worthless with only a single Ring device.
Finally the app gets to the physical camera installation steps. A simple paper Quick Install Guide would have been so much easier. I was also surprised there was no recommended mounting height for the camera.
Once the app was complete, an orange alert stated that a Premium Trial at my address ends in 30 days and that I need to subscribe to share or replay videos. I did not know that a paid subscription is required to view video recordings, so reviewing past events for free is not possible. There is no USB or microSD port to save videos locally. The camera can be used for live view or motion alerts only. A few days after activation I received an email implying that even the Person Alerts will not be available after the trial expires.
I finally got the camera mounted and can see a live view, turn on the lights manually, and get motion alerts. Without a manual though, it took me a while to figure out how to respond or talk to someone at the door after a motion alert. The Help menu stated I should have Two-Way Talk with Audio, but I could not find anything that explained how to set it up or use it.
I do like the motion sensitive floodlights, but they are only good when walking away from the camera. If walking towards the camera, the lights are blinding. I was not able to find any light intensity control. I have a lot of cats and other wildlife in my yard, yet none of them have activated the floodlights or the motion alerts in the last several days since I installed the camera.
After all this and knowing what I know now, I would not have ordered this Ring Spotlight Cam Pro. Without a free option to see videos of what happened while I was away or sleeping, or to get Person Alerts when someone approaches the door, the spotlight is the only function that I find that useful and there are much cheaper options that do that.

Fantastic spot light camera for extra security.
We mounted this under the roof awning and the picture quality is excellent. The camera works perfectly and provides its own spotlight illumination. Coverage and motion detection works well and the WiFi and app connection was easy to establish. Note that the plug in version of the camera we ordered uses a USB-C port powered by a 18' line to a 20W power adapter. POE is also an option. This is a great camera for that extra coverage and security.

Crisp and clear 4k even at night, battery life is ok
First and foremost make sure you keep in mind that this camera will NOT work with google nest and will work best with Alexa if you want to integrate it with home automation but you don't have to and can use it as a stand alone with ring should you choose to. This is an incredible camera and the best Ring camera I have used so far. Install was easy following the instructions and took just over the 10 minute estimate for me. Integration with Alexa was perfect, quick, and simple. Picture quality is top notch! I would post pics of the actual stream but it will give away my location as I use this camera at the front of my house. Battery life lasts me about a week but my camera gets set off quite a bit being in the front of the house so I did lower the spotlight intensity to squeeze out more battery. I believe you can install a solar panel on it to possibly extend that. I do think for the price to get true 4k quality that it is a good value though. 9/10

Excellent picture quality, very easy to use
Don't make my mistake and get this security camera when your husband says, "go ahead and order it and I'll install an outlet for it on the porch." I've had this for a few weeks already I'm still waiting for that outlet! All I've been able to do is so far is try it out in the house. From that limited experience, I love it so far and am looking forward to finally getting it properly installed outside.
I'm coming from a much older and lower quality rechargeable security camera, so the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro is a HUGE upgrade for me. As such, I'm quite impressed with the picture clarity and even the sound quality. I know some people say the sound isn't great, but compared to my old camera, I find it more focused with less background white noise.
The app is awesome, giving you access to every adjustment you might want to make and it's very intuitive. I was able to find my way around the app quite easily to change settings. You can, for example, set the lights to motion sensing and full brightness (let me tell you, they can be extremely bright!).
I've just find this camera to be really nice and very easy to use and I have no doubt it'll enhance our home security quite well. Once my husband gets that outlet installed, I'll update.

Great picture! Easy to use!
I really love this camera. I already have a few Ring cameras around my home, and this one did not disappoint. Installation was very easy, and adding it to my existing Ring account took only a few minutes. The app is extremely user-friendly, and everything synced smoothly. The WiFi connection works great too — strong, stable, and quick to load live view or recorded clips.
The video quality is excellent — very clear, crisp, and reliable in both day and night modes. The motion sensors perform really well and can be adjusted to detect movement only in specific zones, which helps reduce unnecessary alerts. I also like that this model stays plugged in, so there’s no worrying about battery levels or frequent recharging. The built-in spotlights are bright and add great visibility when motion is detected.
There is a monthly subscription if you want extra features, and an upgraded plan if you want 24/7 recording or text-based event descriptions. For me, the added features are worth it. Overall, this is a high-quality, reliable, and easy-to-use camera with great performance all around. Very happy with it!

Great quality camera
Very good product product. Video and sound quality is great. Easy to set up and the brightness is good. Love that it is of a good size and connects well.
My only issue is that the i did not realize it had to be left plugged in. I thought it was only for recharging the device. For such a expensive product I would of expected it to be able to mount anywhere and use wifi only
Overall its a great product just won't be able to mount it where I wanted it due to lack of outlet

Great video quality/good light/ static on sound
I purchased the hardwire kit to connect this camera in place of my old front light fixture. The installation was not difficult. I like the amount of light that this camera provides. It lights up my driveway and the front steps. The video quality is good. I can make out the license plate of any car that pulls into my driveway although my driveway is fairly short.
The video is good even with low light at night. With the light on the details are very good. My one complaint is the sound. Voice audio has some static but you can still make out what is being said. I set up a zone and with the smart AI there are not a lot of false alarms. I have deer and foxes in my area and they sometimes trip an alert if they cross my steps.
Setup is easy although I initially had trouble connecting to my wifi because an update ran during installation. I backed out of the wifi connection and when the update was done the wifi connected.

Significant Clarity Gains After Update, But Plate Recognition Not Fully Realized (Updated Review)
After Ring support alerted me to a firmware update for the Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) 4K, I retested daylight and night footage. There’s a noticeable improvement in overall image clarity and reduced compression artifacts, especially if you download the video file to your device for close inspection—this point is important and should be highlighted for anyone trying to verify before/after image quality. Daytime sharpness, color, and edge-to-edge definition jumped up enough to see a clear difference compared to my earlier tests. While general visibility and situational awareness are now excellent, the cam still falls short on reliably capturing fine details like license plates at a distance (despite the 4K marketing). Night performance is the camera’s strongest suit, and the improvements there remain solid.
Bottom Line: The update delivers on clarity for everyday security and evidence needs, especially for those willing to download and examine recordings. However, recognition of faces and plates from across the street is still not a selling point. This camera is now a much stronger contender post-update, but the original promises on fine-detail identification remain only partially met.
Original Review
Big Night Vision Gains, But Daytime Improvements Are Marginal
If you care about night security or want clearer footage after dark, the Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) 4K is a big upgrade over the first-gen model. The night vision is substantially better, with much sharper details, less grain, and superior infrared illumination. Daytime sharpness, however, isn't dramatically improved; while the Pro offers a wider field of view and some color improvement, the jump in daytime clarity isn’t as big as the “4K” label might suggest. If low-light or identification at night is your main concern, the new Pro model is the obvious winner. For mostly daylight use, upgrading is more about coverage than image quality. The photos provided are my old camera vs the new “4K” camera.
Details
Daytime Coverage: The 2nd Gen Pro has a noticeably wider lens and picks up more of the front yard and street, which helps with overall situational awareness. Colors are a little richer, and there are fewer visible compression artifacts. But fine details (faces, distant license plates) aren’t much easier to pick out compared to the first-gen—the difference is there, just not dramatic.
Daytime Clarity: Both models offer good general daylight performance that’s serviceable for most routine security needs. The old cam’s clarity is decent, but the new cam—even with its 4K sensor and processing—only slightly boosts definition, mainly in edge-to-edge sharpness rather than true resolution.
Night Performance: This is the Pro's strongest area. The first-gen cam drops off fast in low light: shadows, muddy colors, and poor contrast all make nighttime video pretty limiting except where the spotlight directly shines. The 4K Pro, in contrast, delivers dramatically better results—not only are people and animals easier to identify, but the camera makes full use of its improved spotlights to push light further and ensure detail is preserved across most of the yard.
Other Features: The Spotlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) also adds advanced features like 3D Motion Detection, radar-based alerts, customizable privacy zones, and better integration with newer Ring software. These help reduce false alerts and make the camera smarter about what's actually happening in front of your house.

Improvement but can still improve more.
Improvement. Just installed a couple hours ago. So far seems to be a good improvement. Improved video quality , brighter light, gets a better signal , don’t know about audio yet.
Wish the install used the prior units or at the very least the cord could be disconnected from the power supply as to run through holes easier. The plastic mount is the same as prior pro model but the cord is not.
Pictures are prior model vs this new model. Prior model can not read writing , new model can but could still be a little clearer and that object is close to the camera.

Massive upgrade for ring!
I do think this is actually a pretty massive upgrade for ring cameras and here's why.
Pros
4k quality for obvious reasons better digital zoom and much better video quality.
Wifi 6 chip inside gives a much better rssi value when placing the device in the same spot of the first gen. My front camera which is furthest went from 61 to 43. I also notice the notifications are much quicker and the light reacts faster to motion.
To confirm the light is much brighter I would agree with the stats of being 2x more lumens I would actually say I turned it down 3/4ths of the way due to it making the image too bright around the edges.
As far as AI I have to say im impressed even though my motion area includes part of the street just like my first gen this one seems to understand the diffrence between the street and the end of my driveway and automatically knows not to bug me of cars driving by. This is especially true of night time when the lights of cars would flood my driveway and trigger the camera at the front or side of my house, but no more it determines the diffrence perfectly. I also like now when im mowing the lawn the ai determines it's the same notification so it stops sending them so I don't have to mute the notifications while mowing.
Cons
Yes it could use a better speaker and microphone but I think I would much rather have seen a better microphone just because the audio pickup can be lacking sometimes for background noise like cars passing.
With this new version no longer having battery backup I could honestly care less only because theres not a real purpose when you loose power you loose wifi and you can't record either. So I understand why ring didn't implement this it's kinda a waste and besides I would much rather see an actual DVR get released. Also 4k and all the new ai features I think the power draw was too much for the older batteries and would require new one which I know people would be upset about also you'd need much larger batteries to power it.
