Great little controller. Connected to my iPad without issue. Now I can game from my tablet like a proper gentleman.

Be sure to get the clamshell case that fits this controller. It’s a perfect fit.

OG Xbox vibes

Really happy with this controller, it pretty much works with all my devices. I love the zero deadzone mode and the tuning I can do on the app on pc. I’m not a fan of how I can only play wired on my Xbox but it’s not a dealbreaker. Giving major OG Xbox vibes and I really love it. The buttons all feel nice the weight feels premium and the materials are solid. Been playing lots of shooters competitively to test the sticks and they’re really good with a little tuning and tweaking. The best part is if you tweak it on your pc the settings carry over to console. Out of the box the deadzone might be to much and a little on the stiff side but I recommend disabling deadzone on the sticks and turning the max input to 99 instead of 100 for very precise aiming.

It stopped working properly

It no longer charges and does not connect to my Xbox one S with the cord after barely using it after 3 months.

Controller no longer connects to Xbox after a month.

Had this controller for about a month and it’s already malfunctioning. It won’t connect to the Xbox. At first the problem started when I played with my wired headphones and the controller started to disconnect multiple times while playing. Since then it started to get worse and now doesn’t connect to my Xbox whatsoever. I just can’t like something if I can’t use it.

Buyer Beware

Ordered the 8Bitdo Ultimate 3-Mode Controller, received a sealed package with the core of a drone controller with zero of its components within the box instead of the controller. I love this brand but this incident left a bad experience. Have used many of their products and I swear by them. Guess I have to order something else

Not Durable

Power input quit working after maybe 2 weeks of use, controller was really small too and I have small hands lol. Love the color and aesthetic but would never recommend

Controller stopped working

Left controller joystick stopped recentering last month.

It just stays stuck facing outwards and does not even click anymore.

I’ve tried emailing 8Bitdo’s customer service because it’s still under the year warranty but their customer service team is not helpful at all and they’re rude.

I’ve had to repeat myself multiple times too because they don’t seem to listen or respond specifically to what I’m saying. Just scripted responses.

A month later and I still have not had this resolved.

I wouldn’t recommend spending money with 8Bitdo unless you’re okay to just throw the controller away if it has any issue.

I expected better from a $70 controller..

Buyer beware! Look at the description

I have bought multiple items from 8Bitdo including the leverless so to say I’m a bit disappointed is an understatement. It seems that 8Bitdo slightly use pictures to unknowingly deceive customers. I was under the impression that this was a wireless controller for the Xbox since it is in the section for the Xbox with the terms wireless in them but if you really look deep you’ll understand that wireless is for everything but the Xbox which is wired. I mean why give me a charging station when I can’t use it. I took one controller back because of the same reason only to find out that the premium model has the same issue. For a company that provides high quality controllers(better than Xbox) I’m very disappointed. I don’t feel like sending this one back so…if I need a wireless controller I’ll just buy the official Xbox controller from Microsoft.

Good controller, but less features than the regular one

I bought the Xbox variety of the Ultimate because I was sick of dealing with controller incompatibility using non-xbox controllers on PC. For that, it's been fantastic.

My unit is ever so slightly defective, in the fact that the left stick kinda doesn't register the full distance on one very specific small area when moved over there. This was fixed in software by adjusting the area that it registers movement to, so now I have full functionality and you can't even tell the problem was there in the first place.

The software for the controller is not particularly great. You download it from the microsoft store and it doesn't have the features you'd expect and doesn't seem to get updated at all. It works for things like adjusting stick registration and deadzones, and assigning buttons, but it's very barebones and some buttons can't be changed at all.

For example, the Capture button present on all Xbox controllers is here. For official Xbox controllers on the Xbox console, you can reassign the Capture button to do other things. However, even with official controllers, this option is not present on PC. The Xbox Game Bar Capture feature is slow, and laggy. Pressing the button to take a screenshot takes several seconds for it to register, and by the time it does whatever you wanted to capture is already over.

The 8bitdo Xbox Ultimate has the same issue. You cannot reassign this button in either the Windows software or the 8bitdo software. I had to find a third party hack someone came up with to disable all of the Windows stuff and allow the button to take screenshots more effectively. It works, but it's a hacky solution that's really annoying.

The actual build quality of the controller is incredible. It feels great to use and is very responsive.

Connectivity options are a little limited. For example, it has lost its ability to be used with a Nintendo Switch console. It can only be used wired on an actual Xbox which is absolutely baffling to me. On PC it requires use of the included 2.4ghz dongle, and the bluetooth can only be used on phones like Android or iOS.

It is absolutely baffling to me that you cannot use Bluetooth on PC, or use it wirelessly with the Xbox. I can sorta understand why the Nintendo Switch functionality was stripped out, but even that should have been present.

The dock is super neat though. It holds the controller well and has a (very bright) charging light along the bottom. If you are using the controller with your PC you can plug the 2.4ghz dongle into a compartment in the bottom of the dock and then plug the dock into your PC so you don't have to use a second port.

Overall it's a great controller but compared to the normal Ultimate it's a bad deal. The normal Ultimate in xinput mode still shows up as an Xbox controller. The only reason why you're buying this is because it has an Xbox logo on it. It has less features and support than the regular Ultimate and is only really a good deal if you get it on sale.

Jade Style

I'm so happy, it finally came after all my wait :D

After my Xbox controller got drift I decided to buy a new one, but I thought about getting drift again. So I looked up for a good hall effect controller. 8bitdo ultimate 3-mode was my choice (to play on my xbox and some games on PC and android), I was about to buy the black one, but I saw the jade version, I fell in love xD

Good for the price, doesn't feel as premium as a microsoft made controller, but not far off

I like it, I wish it felt more like the xbox controller bigger/wider. I guess that is just personal preference.

I have Xl or XXL hands so that might be why I prefer something a little bigger. I would give this a 4.5, and I admit I am being picky.

I do like the hall effect joysticks, they are smooth and shouldnt need to worry about them wearing too quickly.

I have used with a PC(usb), android tablet(BT) and wired to a xbox series x. All 3 worked well, just toggle the switch on the back.

I haven't used the bonus buttons on the back yet, but I like the idea, similar to the paddles on an Elite controller.

I do really like the charging indicator, orange charging and white full charged.

Overall I do like this, if it could connect wirelessly to an Xbox and maybe add some texture similar to the microsoft controllers I could bump this to 5 stars. Either way I still recommend it.

Clean look, low latency, can’t go wrong!

Love this controller for PC gaming! It’s minimalist design and included dock is especially great for a more mature and minimalist office space.

I love that the 2.4g dongle can stay inside the dock when you connect the dock to PC via the USB cable. No more lost dongles!

Great For PC and Xbox

I like to play on PC and Xbox, so of course I got the Xbox Elite 2, but after a year, the rubber gips started to peel off. That had me on the hunt for something well made and not as heavy other than the official Xbox controllers. In comes the 8Bitdo Ultimate line of controllers. This thing is great with its 2.4g dongle for my pc a wire for Xbox, and Bluetooth for anything else. The Hall Effect joysticks have been reliable on my older 8Bitdo Pro 2, and I don't mind using a longer cable to play the Xbox. The buttons are nice and clicky with decent response time. I do recommend the official case they sell for $19 if you get this just to keep the dock, dongle, and controller all in one place. Speaking of the dock, you can plug the dongle into the bottom and use a USB-C cable to connect the case and dock to your PC, and it works just like having the dongle in the pc.

Excellent Well Designed PC Controller

TLDR - Its a great controller for your PC gaming needs at a good price by a company with a passion for making great controllers. Get it.

I do not own an XBOX and I primarily game on a PC so this review is geared toward someone in a similar situation. This controller, much like every other 8bitdo product I have had the pleasure of owning, is very well designed, constructed, and priced.

Feel of the plastic is very high quality. Although not dissimilar to other first party offerings, this has a distinct slightly more tapered feel that I prefer. It feels lovely to hold in my average sized hands and all buttons, triggers, sticks and the d-pad feel spot on to me. In particular, the hall effects sticks are a great addition to an otherwise pretty perfect controller to begin with. Knowing that stick drift will be less of an issue makes it even more exceptional.

Beyond the normal controller functionality, it comes with a very nicely designed charging base with a hidden receiver dongle. This connects to your PC via an equally as nice feeling USB-C cable (seriously nice cable with a little 8bitdo branding on it). Good length as well on the cable. You can remove the dongle if you are using it in a more portable situation or you just don't want the dock cluttering up your workspace. Range is great and I haven't run into any interference as of yet. The base also has a nice subtle glowing light that indicates charge status.

You get a couple of extra buttons on that back that you can map to whatever you see fit. I haven't had a need to do much customization but the options is there.

Perhaps my only misgiving is that the battery is unfortunately not removable. I suppose that aids in keeping the profile nice and slim and overall construction feeling more solid but I always like to have a removable battery. That said, I trust that the quality of the included battery will last for quite some time considering all my other 8bitdo controllers (wired and wireless) are still performing just as well as the day I got them. I can't recommend this controller any more highly to someone that wants a nice, wireless, reasonably priced PC controller. Oh and, an extra month of game pass doesn't hurt either :]

Left joystick defective

I was really liking the controller until I started having problems with my left joystick. When I turn the joystick, the stick rubs/grinds against something inside the controller as it passes the top part of the circle. I thought I had a defective product so I ordered a replacement. But the replacement controller also had the same exact issue. Maybe I just got unlucky both times, maybe there is a design flaw or QC issue. Attaching video (turn up the volume) that shows the grinding noise as the joystick is turned.

This paired with my fire tv

I use this to play games on my fire tv and luna, it's the prefect size, keeps a good connection and charges fast. And feels pretty good in my hand.

Excellent update to an already excellent controller

I already had three of the 8bitdo Ultimate 2.4Ghz controllers. This is the update to that controller, and it is excellent. To compare the two controllers, this 8BitDo Ultimate 3-mode controller has a much better D-Pad and shoulder buttons, and it has a headphone jack. It also has rumble motors in the triggers similar to the Xbox One and Xbox Series controllers. I use it for PC, and the original 2.4Ghz showed up as an Xbox 360 controller. This 3-mode controller shows up as an Xbox One controller. This is really just beneficial if you want to have the correct glyphs in your games.

Nice controller, initially had issues but replaced by warranty

Up front, I really liked this controller but unfortunately the left analog stick completely broke after only a few hours of use.

But starting with good: this controller feels well made, and while it was working it performed well. The build quality feels on par with any first party controller. I primarily use my controller with a PC and an Android device (did not test with an Xbox) and the ability to switch quickly between 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth pairing made this perfect for me. The docking station is also very handy, and it has a little USB slot on the bottom for the wireless dongle so that you only need to have one cable connecting the computer to the dock for both charging and wireless. Wireless on both Bluetooth and the 2.4 GHz dongle worked flawlessly and had great range. The 8bitdo app is very nice and easy to use, and it actually writes your settings to the controller so that you don't need to have it constantly running. The controller supports 3 on board profiles as well, so you can quickly switch between different button mappings/sensitivities/etc on the fly. The controller also has nice quad vibration motors, which feel great. Overall, I was very pleased with this controller starting out...

UNTIL the left analog stick came loose and then went limp after only a few hours of use, maybe 3-5, making the controller completely unusable. I contacted 8bitdo customer support, who were polite and suggested a fix for the joystick, but unfortunately their fix did not work. The controller doesn't have an obvious way to take it apart to even attempt to fix myself, not that that is a reasonable option anyway.

UPDATE: after going back and forth with 8bitdo for a while they agreed to send me a replacement under warranty *if* I mailed the broken controller them at my own expense. It took quite a while, but I did get the replacement which has been functioning perfectly since then. I'm updating this review to 4 stars because I do really think this is quite a nicely made and functional controller, but I'm not super thrilled with the warranty service. Paying out of pocket to ship an obviously defective, broken unit back and then having to wait over a month to get a replacement isn't ideal. YMMV, and I do genuinely love the actual controller.

Works great but a little bulkier in your hands

This review is based on using it on an XBOX. It does not feel as comfortable in your hand as an official Xbox controller because it’s bit bulkier. It is smooth on top and has texture on the bottom part for grip. It’s well made and a nice controller.

It is not wireless with the xbox but it says it’s wireless with a computer and an Android phone. For a computer you have to use a transmitter, which it comes with. It has two programable buttons which can only be assigned to ONE function even though there are two. You can adjust the master volume of your head set and you can adjust the chat volume separately from the game volume, which is nice. It’s a little different because before you use the D-pad you have to hold the profile button on the control.

Once you adjust to using it the controller works well. It’s a good controller and I would recommend it but I would not choose it over an official XBOX controller.

feels premium

Worked great with an Xbox One straight out of the box; just plugged in the USB adapter and it synced.

Pros:

good response, no lag

grippy/rubbery joysticks

good weight

feels like quality materials

substantial vibration

easy sync and wireless play using the included USB adapter (inside charging base)

rechargeable, either by base or use included 9 foot cable while playing

base is stable and lights up orange when charging and white when done,

Cons:

none so far

Note: The trigger buttons are more toward the front (like on PS) rather than toward the top corners like on original Xbox controllers.

Does not work for iPhone

The entire reason I got this was to cloud play on my iPhone, but it doesn't work. I guess cause it's not an actual Xbox controller. It connects to my phone no problem through the Bluetooth, but once in the app it detects no controllers. My coworker tried it on his Samsung and had no issues. I'd assume it's fine on Xbox since it's a wired connection. (which I don't understand why it's not wireless for the Xbox too) And I'd also assume it's fine on PC since the Bluetooth does work and it can probably be wired as well. But unfortunately for me and the one reason I got it, it's a bust. So if you plan on using it for anything but Apple products, then it should be good. The controller itself feels great and solid.

P.s. I was trying to play through cloud gaming, not the console mirror casting or whatever it's called. So that may work but I can't confirm.

Great controller BUT.....

Just got this in today and Gamepad Tester is showing around 9-10% error on the joysticks... tried using the Ultimate software to fix it but it seems I cant fix it using the software.... I even updated the Firmware. Keep in mind 9-10% is pretty bad for Hall effect joysticks. I would say the accuracy of the Joysticks is on par with non Hall Effect controllers. At least the joysticks shouldn't drift in the future. With that said, the controller is really responsive and the build quality does seem to be really good.

Gio

Not Wireless on Xbox Series Consoles

I missed it, I own 2 8BitDo Ultimate controllers with Hall Effect sticks and this was wildly misleading. I went in expecting that the Xbox Officially licensed product would have the wireless capability OR at least like their wired counterpart for $40 would show a wire in the main imagining. Not someone holding a cable running between two consoles, or the Xbox icon on a white on white controller with a slim wire icon underneath.

Gave a second star because the controller for the 5-10 minutes I fiddled with it felt great and the bumpers were more tactile than my other two Ultimates which by the way the Switch controller connects wirelessly to the Switch and to my PC via the dongle.

Maybe it was misaligned expectations on my part, I don't recommend unless you're buying for PC only or buying for a wired Xbox controller.
