Stopped working after 8 months. Now when using the camera it just displays a white screen.
The built-in microphone is terrible. Whenever I am on calls no-one can hear me and I have to use an alternate microphone.
The camera angle is also very wide. Quality is not great.

This webcam works with OctoPrint
I wanted a relatively affordable 1080p webcam that I could use for my OctoPrint server (to manage my 3d printer) while also having the ability to grab and use it on a computer when needed. This fits that bill perfectly. I have used Amcrests partner Foscam cameras for some time now so figured it would be good quality. With that said, I am happy with my purchase. The image included is of the OctoPrint GUI

USB-C and auto focus? Absolute steal for the price!
The camera is one of the best in the price range. One of my friends recommended I try it, and he uses it for his Twitch streaming and I must say it's a great buy.
Pros.
1. Great picture quality, even in low light.
2. Very accurate and fast auto focusing.
3. Being a filmmaker, I appreciate when a camera has some dynamic range (not too contrasty) which gives me room to play around with the colors and how my image looks. I've attached a screenshot of Amcrest webcam compared to another similar priced webcam and you can see how clear the Amcrest's picture quality is.
4. Detachable USB C connection!!!
Con.
Only thing I can think of is the size, its a little wider than most webcams but I am guessing its because of the auto focusing mechanism or something?
Overall a great buy!

Bad Autofocus, Crunchy Audio, Good Picture Quality: Good Budget Camera
**Edited to note that I will be reimbursed for this review. Still, that did not influence the review at all. All of the following notes are my own honest opinions.**
Video Review attached! Not rehearsed or anything, so enjoy that (oof). It was recorded with the camera in question though, so it's useful to watch a bit of. For those that just want to read my thoughts, here are my thoughts collected somewhat more concisely:
- The Autofocus leaves much to be desired. I can't tell if the camera itself handles it or if it's different per app, but in testing on Windows 10's camera app, the autofocus was slow to adjust and took a minute for the initial adjustment. It did seem more responsive in Discord's video chat, but that wasn't tested quite as extensively.
- The Mic is probably the worst part of the camera. It doesn't seem quite powerful enough as it's generally pretty quiet, but when I speak loud enough to be heard, it sounds like it's clipping. You can hear that somewhat in the video, but my discord friends were noting it as well.
- Picture Quality is great, though, especially for its price point. It handles different lighting on a subject very well. It doesn't blow out from direct sunlight, and the front of my face that wasn't lit by the sun was still totally visible, even with no real front light.
- Mounting is meh. I don't love how it just kind of sits on top of the monitor. I wish the clip had a spring in it so it was a firmer attachment to the monitor. It's not going anywhere if it's not touched, which is good, but I wish it were a more active connection. I'm not sure that I'd trust it to always be in the exact same place every time that you use it.
- Range of Motion is great. It can tilt almost all the way down to look at the desk below the monitor it's mounted to. Really great if you're, say, building a model, or maybe playing a card game online with a friend. It also pans all the way around (cable permitting), with no actual stop. May be useful on a laptop when you want to spin it to face what you're looking at. Again, cable would be a problem if you kept spinning it clockwise every time, but you know, still a neat function.
- Privacy slider is also great. It's an internal douser that you slide in front of the lens whenever you don't want to be snooped on. The LEDs on the unit also change from red when not in use to blue when in use, but there are theoretically ways that bad actors can use to turn on the camera without activating the LEDs. The privacy slider physically prevents that from being an issue.
Overall, for it's $60 price point, the Amcrest 5MP UltraHD ProStream Webcam is a solid buy. Excellent picture quality and maneuverability outshine a mediocre microphone and autofocus. Solid 4/5 when accounting for the price. 3/5 compared to higher end webcams on the market.

Great quality for a great price
I had the opportunity to try out the AWC5100 for almost 2 weeks. I've been using it for both Twitch streaming and for work conference calls. The webcam is also incredibly easy to set up, as it comes out of the box ready to use when you plug in the USB to MicroUSB cord. For $60, the quality of this webcam is amazing. It is truly 1080p quality and the video quality matches that of my Logitech webcam while being cheaper and is much better than my default work laptop webcam. The size of the webcam is a bit longer than the Logitech webcam, but since it's mounted ontop of my monitor / laptop, it doesn't really make a difference.
The only issues I've had are minor with the webcam's autofocus. When the autofocus works, you are perfectly clear, but there are times when the autofocus locks onto something besides your face and you become blurry. To resolve, I've just held my hand up to the camera and slowly removed it until the autofocus reset. This doesn't happen too much, but will happen when I leave the frame (to get water, etc.) and come back into frame.
Otherwise, I really like the webcam. I think the quality of the picture is amazing. The larger clip size also is better for me, as my monitor is fairly thick and my old Logitech webcam did not sit properly upon my monitor. This webcam would be a great purchase for any use, whether it's streaming, making videos, or using it for work.

Good quality, once it focuses, and if it stays focused
I tried this camera in two use cases:
1. For monitoring my 3d printer, it was horrible. The auto focus almost never worked when trying to take images through the clear front door. Other cameras did not have this issue. With the door open, it struggled keeping the image in focus a lot as the print moved. It would take several seconds to refocus.
2. On my desktop, it was passable if you didn't move much. The auto focus worked better, but was still slow. If I moved too much forward or backwards, or even left to right, it would lose me and take several seconds to refocus. In some meetings I focused on other things then me.
If Amcrest can fix the auto focus issue, then the camera would be a real contender. When it stayed in focus, the image quality was great. But with the unstable focus it makes it hard to accept as a real solution.

A big step up from my old Logitech
I bought this to replace my old Logitech C210 webcam. This Amcrest camera clipped onto my monitor and was a simple plug and play install with windows 10. There were no special drivers or anything to get it working and the cord was more than long enough to reach from my monitor over to the tower on the stand next to my desk.
The image quality is pretty good when the room is well lit. My office has three can lights, but its not the brightest. The picture quality can get a little grainy in the darker areas of the room. I tried the camera in a different part of my house where its brighter and the image was fine. The autofocus works well to follow you face when using the Windows 10 built in camera software.
I've used this with Skype and Zoom and the camera has worked just fine. I have not experienced any audio or video issues. Zoom does limit your video quality to 720p through. The camera has a 65 degree field of view, but it appears to me to be wider than that. It is definitely wider than my Logitech cam.
I really like the light on the front of the camera than is blue when in use and red when not. The best feature is probably the sliding privacy cover than you can use cover the lens to keep the camera from seeing anything. I usually keep this closed except when in use. That's a big positive for me.
I know there are webcams out there with better quality, but they have a much higher price tag. For the price, this Amcrest webcam more than gets the job done and I'm happy with my purchase.

Good Webcam With Room for Improvement
This is a nice alternative to the wildly popular Logitech webcam and easier to find. Picture is good and even better with the firmware update that can be found in the support section of the Amcrest website.
The item that needs improvement is audio quality. Like many of the webcams, the microphones are within the body of the camera, and the automatic level controls on most applications tend to distort the sound more than a standalone microphone. Many users may not notice this; the sound difference was pointed out while comparing to standalone microphone audio.
For the price the camera is well packaged and included a good length micro USB cable.

Highly Recommend USB Web Cam
This is a late review, however, it is worth the time to talk about it. The Amcrest 1080P Webcam with Microphone & Privacy Cover is awesome!!!! The people from Amcrest really outdid themselves with the webcam that I, personally, believe that they made a product with the right features:
1. full-HD 1080P @ 30fps
2. a Privacy Cover
3. Built-in Microphone
4. USB 2.0 Plug & Play (Fits for multi-operation: Windows, Windows 10, Mac OS and Android, etc. Platform Compatibility: Skype, Youtube, Android IPTV, Zoom, Windows Live@Messager, Gmail, WeChat, etc instant messaging applications)
5. Versatile Placement: a mounting clip and ¼ tripod thread so that you can use it on just about any surface.
6. LED Lights (Not as strong, but very useful)
This webcam really does exactly what it should do and I highly recommend having this as a go-to product for anything that deals with video conferencing to YouTube videos...this webcam is great for it!!!

Wide angle USB camera works with raspberry pi
I used the fswebcam utility for raspberry, and compared to raspberry camera module 2.1 it produces much less noise and wider images.
Using the fswebcam's default settings produced out of focus images, but fiddling with the settings ended up getting sharper image.
The camera has very small sensor therefore on not significantly bright environments produces noise, but it's still better than raspberry pi's own camera.

Great low light, nice build quality
Pros:
- Great low-light performance, which is what I was mainly looking for. It easily outperforms Microsoft Live Webcam on my laptop.
- Indicator LED showing the status. The indicator lights up when camera is plugged in, it becomes blue when camera is active.
- The head can swivel 360 degree and move vertical by 90 degree.
- Hinge area is coated with a soft rubber, won't be slippery nor scratch your screen.
- There is an embedded privacy shutter for people having privacy concerns.
- Linux compatible. The webcam was a plug-and-play in Fedora 33.
Cons:
- The field of view is only 65 degrees, which on the narrow side. If you need to fit a wide angle to your camera feed, I suggest you check other options.
- Only 24fps at 5MP, which is not a deal breaker for me, but I suggest setting the camera to 1440p or 1080p if you want smoother video feed.
TLDR; this is a great webcam with an amazing low-light performance. I recommend this produc.

Great camera that gets the job done
Pros:
- Microphone is great for basic needs and online calls, but you may want an external one if you plan on doing any important recordings.
- It doesn't require any additional software (you can use it directly out of the box) which was really useful in a pinch. That being said, it definitely benefits from software since it unlocks the 5.0 MP capabilities.
- Privacy cover.
- When it's focused, it is a relatively good quality image.
- The camera can be rotated and angled to fit the desired frame.
Cons:
- The autofocus isn't great at detecting motion, so it takes a while to adjust and just keeps going in and out of focus from even the smallest movements. Setting focus to manual in Windows' Camera app avoids this and is what I ended up doing every time I used the camera (instructions were mentioned in another review). It just means you need to be at approximately the same distance from your camera.
- The thickness of the overhang. If you have very little beveling on your monitor, this will cover a fair chunk of the top of your screen. However, if you perch it perfectly, you can avoid it; it just won't be as stable. (pictured)
I tested this camera for a month during virtual choir rehearsals, virtual doctor appointments, and during presentations and meetings for work.

Solid quality picture, get a separate mic.
I've been using this webcam now for about 4 months and I have to say, it's completely disappeared into my workflow. That's a *good* thing.
I opened it up and mounted it on top of my monitor (no adhesive or additional hardware required), then plugged it into my USB hub. Done. The only additional configuration required is to tell Zoom/Bluejeans/Google Meet to use this over the built-in camera in my laptop.
I've swapped between multiple machines from a 2011 Thinkpad to a 2020 Macbook Pro and several in between. No machine has had a single issue whether in Linux, MacOS, or Windows.
So yeah, the picture quality is great (eg it meets or exceeds expectations of a camera in this price range and form factor). The audio on the other hand...
I tried it once in a team meeting. When paired with the soundbar on my desk there was terrible audio feedback. When paired with my headphones the audio quality was incredibly sub-par. I could be understood, but in all cases just using the laptop mic or the mic on my headphones or even earbuds was far superior. As I take part in or lead a ton of meetings this was no good. Still, you simply don't need to even remember that this has a mic. Just use your headphones or laptop and you'll be fine.
Lastly, the lighting. I don't think it's really designed to actually illuminate your face; rather it conveniently lets you know when your webcam is active, which is indispensible.
All in all I'd say this is a good tool, just understand what you're getting and don't use the built-in mic.

Good audio, bad video, not Amcrest's best work
The Amcrest AWC5100 is advertised as a 5MP webcam with a superior built-in microphone, a wide-angle lens, and a large sensor for low light situations. It prominently boasts about its privacy cover and its plug-and-play capability. After a couple of months of testing the AWC5100 against my other webcam, the Hrayzan 1080P HD, I have decided to do a write-up on the strengths and weaknesses of the Amcrest product in contrast to a cheaper and more generic product.
Set-Up
In this regard, the Amcrest webcam is a double-edged sword. Yes, it is plug-and-play and can be setup within seconds of retrieving the product from its packaging. Yes, it can be used on applications like Skype and Zoom instantly. However, the downside is that the image quality is in dire need of adjusting for optimal quality. Unfortunately, in Windows 10 accessing the webcam settings is not exactly a straightforward affair, so some Google searching is in order to correctly tune the picture quality. An inclusion of instructions or tutorial for accessing the Windows webcam settings is sorely needed in this package. Out of the box, both my Amcrest and Hrayzan webcams are a breeze to get started, but both would benefit greatly from user-friendly guides on adjusting the webcam settings.
Picture Quality
I have attached three photos to demonstrate my points in this section. All the pictures were taken in a room with sufficient natural light at a distance of about two feet from the webcam, and all the photos were taken with Windows’ built-in Camera app. No editing has been done on any of the photos.
The Amcrest AWC5100 has some issues with regards to its picture quality. Despite the greater picture resolution compared to other webcams in the market, its overall picture quality is much lower. For starters, the webcam itself has a tendency to continually go in and out of focus for no apparent reason unless its autofocus feature is manually turned off in those elusive webcam settings. Secondly, its wide-angle lens is not nearly as wide as one would expect. Thirdly, the webcam has a very difficult time adjusting to anything in-frame that is not dark. As you can see, the white wall behind me, even with its muted eggshell color, causes massive problems with the webcam’s quality and washes out almost all the detail in the background. Finally, and this is a matter that is exacerbated when video is used, the AWC5100 introduces an incredible amount of unfilterable noise into the image. No amount of sharpening can fully resolve the issue, and it is a massive distraction in video calls when the noise is constantly populating the image.
These last two points are the biggest weaknesses of the Amcrest AWC5100. It gets the job done but it could be so much more at its price point. There are webcams on the market at lower prices with superior picture quality. All that leaves to wonder is how its sound quality fares.
Sound Quality
The audio quality of the AWC5100 is where this webcam really begins to shine. It stands only slightly below my condenser mic and pop filter combination when it comes to fidelity. This, in comparison to the Hrayzan’s abysmal underwater-sounding quality, is definitely the Amcrest webcam’s strongest suit. Without any kind of software filter or pop filter being placed on the AWC5100, it’s microphone’s capabilities are superb. With only a tiny bit of reverb and a slight lack of bass in the frequencies, it is more than sufficient for use in video conferences and family calls. That is something that cannot be said for the horrific Hrayzan’s audio quality. With some additional audio software filtering with things like a compressor, noise gate, and maybe even the inclusion of AI software like RTX Voice, you can have a very professional audio setup that will blow you away.
Overall
If you are looking for an all-in-one solution and do not wish to buy additional microphones or headsets to compensate for poor quality, the AWC5100 definitely beats out the horde of generic webcams out there with subpar audio quality. With that said, the Amcrest AWC5100 also leaves a ton to be desired as it pertains to its video quality. It just barely gets the job done, but no matter how much fine-tuning is done on its settings, it will never look more than a rather cheap webcam despite its marketing stating otherwise. The higher webcam resolution does nothing to mask the webcam’s shortcomings, and its saving graces are its ease of use, superb sound quality, and inclusion of a privacy cover. With these apparent issues, I believe there are better options out there for most people, even within Amcrest’s own lineup of products, and so I would have to regretfully recommend against the AWC5100.

Works well but it may need a firmware update
When I got this camera, it had a terrible time maintaining focus. It was so bad, I considered it unusable. I packed it up and planned to return it.
However, I contacted support and it turns out there was a firmware update available. I installed it and the focus improved dramatically. I changed my mind and kept it. It's a good camera and definitely worth considering in these COVID times when we're all at home.
The hardware design is very good. It feels substantial. The built-in lens cover is clever. The lights on the front that indicate its state provide clear information about its status. The mics seem to work well, I could only do a basic test. I'm not a fan of using the webcam's mic on any webcam. I use a headset.
One thing to note is that it has tighter framing than the Logitech C920. In other words, it's not as widescreen. I can see some people liking that fact, others not. If you need a wide-angle, this might not do it.
Photos show its size and you can see the little cover switch.

Decent basic camera
It's a no frills camera. It does exactly what I need without any issue. There is no extra software needed. Windows 10 picked it up right away without having me to install anything. I was able to use it with skype, zoom and other social media apps without any problem. The quality of the picture is good with it being 1080P. The privacy cover is good to have for those that are concern about making sure it's not broadcasting you without you knowing. It does also have an indicator light when it's active. Note that the cover is separate and sticks on with double back tape. Stays in place without issue on the "stand" that it has to prop it up on your monitor or laptop. It also has a screw hole for a tripod if you use it in that way. Overall a decent device.

Decent picture quality webcam, wide angle, bad microphone
The Amcrest AWC205 webcam is simply packaged and designed. It has a tripod mount, which increases the versatility, "on" light, and lens cap. It is light and installs without needing any extra software. In just a few minutes I was up and running. The video quality was definitely a step up from my laptop's built-in camera, so while I am using this for my desktop, I will likely be swapping it between computers occasionally. The picture is wide, allowing more people into the view, if needed.
Unfortunately, the microphone is not strong on this camera. Multiple video call participants complained about being unable to hear me when I had this camera’s microphone enabled. It was too low, and not clear. They described it as sounding as if I were underwater. If you want to use this camera, make sure you have a separate microphone or headset for the sound.
The lens cap functions. It comes separate, and the purchaser gets to stick it onto the unit after removing a sticky backing. It isn’t the most attractive cap and it can pop off, but as I mentioned, it works.
While I was happy with the quality of the picture, this isn’t a top-end image, either. It is better than your built-in, but not as good as $100+ cameras. So you are getting a value similar to what you paid.
The first camera I received had a visual defect near the right edge, and Amcrest was very responsive to the warranty replacement. The replacement did not have any visual defects that I could identify.

Auto-focus and resolution adjustments / Microphone just fine.
Got it to work better than the out of the box experience.
Use the Windows 10 "Camera" App (click on Start, type CAMERA, press enter). See attached picture.
On the left, you will find a gear icon "Settings". You can adjust the resolution:
Photos
-Up to 3.7MP with 16:9 form factor (2560x1440). My preferred option.
-Up to 5.0MP with 4:3 form factor (2592x1944)
Videos
-Up to 1440p 16:9 30fps. My preferred option.
Also, you have some other controls on the left. The middle one is for "Focus". I set it to manual and adjusted for the best picture (45% in my case). This has minimized the very annoying refocus (when you move).
Other OS, or Videoconference Apps, may or may not have an option to do these adjustments (ZOOM does not). So I set them with the Windows 10 "Camera" App and they stick when I use ZOOM.
Sound from the microphone has been a recurring issue with the plethora of models Amcrest has released this year. This model is just fine (using the max level).
So for the price, I'm happy with this camera performance. A good option now that you can hardly find a decent camera at a decent price (forget all well known WebCam brands ... too much $$$).

Great picture and video quality, camera hardware also very nice
Overall I am very satisfied with this product and give it 5/5 stars. The webcam is super easy to plug in and start using. It comes with an optional camera cover that I did use at first but took it off only because aesthetically I thought it looked cooler without the cover (it kind of looks like a toilet seat cover, but that’s not the reason why I took it off). It looks very nice, doesn’t stick out the back much, quality build, sturdy, doesn’t shake while you are typing on the computer, easy to use, and simply better than what you have built in to your laptop. If you’re looking for an upgrade and don’t want to spend over $50, this is a very good option. I’ve used this camera for a week at virtual happy hours, zooming with friends, and video conferencing for work. As you can see, it fits nicely on top of a Macbook and any laptop, or if you want to prop it on the desk instead that works too (very stable). The built-in microphone is great and others can hear you clearly. This is also useful in reducing the amount of noise that laptop mics pick up from typing. If you are taking notes while on a VC this is a very useful and underrated feature. Others have also noted that they can hear me clearly with the built-in microphone on the webcam. With the webcam sitting on top of the screen, it will also cover the camera that you have on your laptop if the camera is on top, so you’ll know right away whether you’re using the correct camera.
The camera also lights up once you are connected, but does not stay illuminated. I thought it may be nice if the lights did stay illuminated with the option to turn it off, but this is nothing of a dealbreaker nor nothing that breaks the customer experience. Camera picture quality is fantastic and WAY better than your macbook or laptop camera. Regardless if you’re just looking for a better picture/video quality camera for less than $50, this one is up there on the list. On Zoom, I particularly liked the HD option that you have with this camera. This will make the camera angle even wider and clearer, and I thought this was a really nice feature. You can tell the quality of video from the two pictures attached. The wider angle and clearer image is screen-capped from a video taken with the AWC205 webcam. When using the built-in camera, you’ll notice the image is much grainier and not as zoomed out. If you are conscious of how much screen space your face is taking during a call, or how clear the image stream is, using this webcam will not only take care of that but you will appear much clearer and brighter on camera.

Sharp video that doesn't lose focus
I needed a second webcam for work and bought the Amcrest 1080p webcam. I've purchased Amcrest security cameras (wifi based) in the past, so the brand wasn't new to me.
Attached to this review is a video comparison between the Amcrest webcam and my Logitech C922X pro webcam. I think this is a pretty good stress test for webcams.
I found that the Amcrest was able to keep everything in focus better than the logitech camera. The Amcrest seemed to sharpen the video footage more than the Logitech. The only negative I saw with this test was white balance, the Amcrest white balance changed when my hand covered most of the display, while the Logitech retained whites. This may not matter unless large amounts of the scene changes at once.
Both cameras rendered 1080p footage at 30 fps. The Amcrest is much more compact at about 1/3rd smaller. The camera base lets you mount it on a monitor or on a flat surface.
The Amcrest can focus on objects from 6" away to infinity. If you film directly into a light source (like overhead lights) it will create a halo effect on the lens.
Overall I think this is a decent camera, it's much sharper than any of the built in cameras on my laptops, and most selfie cameras on cell phones.

Functional Camera for Any User
I'm on week 3 of using this webcam and so far I don't really have any complaints about it. I'm using it a couple times a day for work. A nice angle of view; definitely less than 90, but much wider than what I using previously. It has all the functions you could ask for on a webcam. My favorite part is the optional lens cover that you can install. It has some adhesive that you can pull off and stick on the front of the webcam. I plan to install it, but since I've lost my fidget spinner, I'm currently opening and closing constantly since it gives a nice satisfying click when it snaps close.

Great webcam, sleek and versatile
I'm a product tester for amcrest so i get products in exchange for honest feedback. I am doing alot of video calls due to the recent pandemic and my 2011 computer camera isn't cutting it. This was a welcome upgrade and fit in well with my current setup. If you do use this camera please make sure you have a seperate audio source for your calls because the mic on this thing is useless. Camera quality and optics is A+ however i do notice the camera is near focused and that cant be adjusted. The long usb cable is great for if you need to quickly move around. The colors are not accurate in low light and tungsten light shows up green. Would be nice to see Amcrest release software to tweak camera parameters to address these issues with the cameras color correction. These aren't deal breakers for me though. The camera is plug and play and does add alot of value to your video calls.

Not the greatest. Horrible audio.
Picture/video quality is ok. I was actually a little disappointed. I don't even know if the video alone is better than most built in webcams, but it might be more at the $25-$30 price point.
Like other reviewers I was not able to have any luck with Windows 10 and audio. I either had to turn the volume way up (and have it capture a lot of static background noise/hiss) or hold it close to my face to pickup a decent audio volume. Even then, it still sounded very hollow. It's definitely worse than built in webcams.
I wish I could give this a better rating, but it's just an overall bad experience.

Simple plug-n-play connection, great resolution!
So I recently built a PC tower and needed a webcam so I could continue working from home. I have been using a pretty well-equipped Lenovo Carbon X1 laptop for awhile and the webcam on that was only adequate to get by. But once I plugged in this Amcrest webcam, I didn’t realize how much webcams have improved in the past few years.
Setup was ultra easy. I’m on Windows 10, just plugged it in and it installed itself in less than a minute. I was able to use it with Microsoft Teams (what I use for work) and the video quality FAR surpasses that of the laptop I was using before. Very clear and much better low light performance.
The mounting clip was easy to attach to my curved monitor, it’s 32” so a little high up but it’s simple just to tilt down to the right level. There is even a tripod mount built in, which was a nice bonus but not something I’ll be using.
My only minor complaint is that the design looks like it has a light ring on each side of the camera. That is not the case, the lights are just there to show you when the camera is active. Wish they were more powerful and acted as a flash/light, but honestly the low light performance is good enough that it doesn’t bother me.
I’ve been using for work for the past few days, overall a great camera for the price and surpassed my expectations.
