Better than the doorbell cameras

Picture worth a thousand words. Our condo was having an issue with people breaking into cars the past few weeks. I ordered this camera becasue I love Amcrest and the doorbell cameras on my neighbor's porches didn't help with the previous issues.

This camera tracks movement (if you choose to select it) and turns the light on when it detects. At the moment, I am paying for the cloud storage until I figure how to connect it to my NVR with my other two Amcrest cameras.

Funny thing, my bike had an alarm on it. The second he touched it, the alarm chirped and the cops were right there. He and his friend are going to be charged.

Great picture, useless firmware implementation.

Easy to setup, & the video quality is amazing. Crystal clear. Unfortunately the internal firmware is junk. They go “offline” within a few hours and never come back. The only way to get them back online is to cycle power which is useless for security cameras since the whole purpose is to monitor things when you are not there. My mesh WiFi network is excellent and Starlink speeds are great. Even if there was a network glitch (which there isn’t, all my other stuff works great) there should still be retries to reconnect. These just die and stay dead. Don’t waste your money on these.

Highly recommended

I think this one is by far the best camera. It gives notifications on your set area. Picture is crystal clear. App is easy to use. And subscription is $3 a month for 3 days storage.

Amcrest, stop making so many apps please. Just have ONE GOOD ONE!

This is a really solid all-in-one security option, especially for the price. The image quality is sharp and clear, and having the camera built into a light fixture is just incredibly convenient. It looks good and is well integrated. The brightness range is surprisingly good too. It can go from very dim to quite bright, so it works well both as a functional light and as a security camera. I also appreciate the included extender, which makes it much easier to position the camera properly in deeper fixtures like outdoor sconces.

Performance-wise, it does a lot right. The AI human tracking works reliably, motion and sound detection are responsive, and the two-way audio is actually useful. Being able to pan and tilt remotely gives you a lot more coverage than a standard fixed camera, and the color night mode with the built-in light is a nice bonus. Overall, the core features feel polished and dependable.

My biggest issue are connectivity and the app. I have a wifi7 mesh system with 4 access points and a separate 2.4 ghz network for iot devises. The internet in my house is really good. I have this camera about 15ft from my main access point and the connectivity sucks honestly. It just doesn't hold a stable connection. I think the wireless radios in all of these Link cameras need upgraded. Now onto the Link app- it works, but it feels like a step backward compared to what it could be. It’s frustrating that this camera doesn’t integrate with Amcrest’s other apps, and even more frustrating that there’s no true multi-view option for monitoring multiple cameras at once. Not being able to access it like a traditional IP camera is also a letdown for more advanced users. If the wireless strength and app experience were better, this would easily be a 5-star product. As it stands, the camera and features are excellent, but the software and radio holds it back just enough to land at four stars for me. If you just want a simple wifi smart camera and are in a small apartment or smaller house where your wireless access point is really close to the camera, I'm sure you'll be quite happy with this.

Easy to Install Security Light

This Amcrest Security camera is well constructed, easy to install, and supports multiple functions. It is designed to screw into a standard light base socket. You can mount it upright or hanging down depending on how your light socket is positioned. I like that it comes with two accessories that allow you to simply plug it into a standard extension cord or screw it into a standard light socket with a rotating extension. It has a built in lamp that is controlled by the Amcrest Link software(I used the Android version, not sure if there is a Mac version). With the free software you can pan and tilt the image. I found that mounting the camera with the camera facing down gave me the most flexibility and range of view. Image quality is good. The app seems to have all the needed functionality. I did have problems with consistent connectivity to my routers. I tried both 2.4 and 5 ghz but always found that the camera would start the function I wanted but then give me a message of "establishing secure channel" for a number of minutes before continuing to function. It could also be caused by an improper setting on my Android phone. Without that limitation this would be a solid 5 star product.

Decent quality camera, other functions more middle-of-the-road

This security camera light bulb combo is a nice in between for easy installation and a certain degree of portability, but the ease seems to have compromised some of the functions and features.

First off: app is required for setup, and an email login is required for the app. The app is a bit clunky on my phone, but works well enough most of the time.

The camera will take a micro SD card or do cloud upload depending on setup. The card size is stated as "up to 128gb"; I didn't try larger.

Initial setup was a bit frustrating, it wouldn't play nice with my wifi for several setup attempts and required a couple resets and start-over before I got it through the setup sequence.

Once set up, you can configure it for notifications, motion, vehicle, human tracking, storage, etc. The motion and human tracking seem to work most of the time.

Camera quality and field of view are pretty good, it's around a 90 degree field of view, and it swivels almost full circle horizontally and just over 90 degrees vertically.

The app gives you the ability to set default position for the camera, and it'll track from there if set up to do so; when nothing more is happening, it'll go back to that default position.

The lightbulb integration seems like a good idea, but the light position vs. the camera conflict, the best position for both, is the same place. As a result, it's doing its best to illuminate the fixture it's in, and doing relatively little for the surroundings.

I wish it had some meager battery backup--without power, it's immediately dead. If it's mounted within arm's reach, someone not happy about being recorded, can easily just unscrew it, defeating it completely.

It is specific in the instructions that it doesn't integrate into other systems, only works within its own ecosystem.

I do like the compact size, it's pretty easy to install in most light fixtures.

Overall, it's an inexpensive camera setup, but provides only a little bit of security.

I RETURNED THIS DEVICE IMMEDIATELY.

Amcrest Link 4MP Light Bulb WiFi Indoor/Outdoor Camera,

I RETURNED THIS DEVICE IMMEDIATELY.

It's a shame, cuz I really wanted this.

and

The camera is stuck in night vision mode. I turned Night vision on / off many times, unplugged power, many times, etc.

Amcrest is 100% requiring me to 'create a account' with them in order to use this light bulb camera.

I have many Amcrest products, I normally choose this company because they make products with without a internet app installed on your phone. That right there is a huge security red flag. This light bulb does NOT work with web browsers. You can't get this device to even work without installing there app and giving them your email address and GPS location.

Was unable to get this to work with Blue Iris. Appears to APP only.

I also noticed that the Amcrest Link app is connecting to around 34 servers/other companies? 20!!! That's not good. And the app is constantly connecting to servers even when closed. All this internet activity can't be just for push notifications ha

Sorry Amcrest, guess I need to find a new company. Looks like you turned into all the rest.

Security camera bulb

This light bulb camera is such a unique and impressive product. The rotating head gives you great coverage, and the video quality is very clear. Setup is surprisingly easy—you just download the app, screw it into a light fixture, or use the included wall adapter (which honestly blew my mind).

Once connected, the app provides all the controls you need to operate the camera smoothly. It’s convenient, versatile, and works exactly as expected. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for an easy-to-use security solution.

Good, but not the best.

I wanted to love this camera so much more, but it failed in the end. It's a good camera for monitoring, but I could not get the memory card to work in it to record. It has an option in the app to record, but I have no idea where it is storing those videos. I had to screen record from the app which is a waste of time. It connected very easy to my WiFi, screwed right into my light fixture with the included adapter, and was very easy to set up. The video quality is okay. It's not the best camera, but it's not outrageously grainy. I like that you don't have to buy cloud storage, but I need the memory card to work, and it didn't. Oh, the app is very responsive on my Google Pixel. The audio is spotty and works some of the time, but not all of the time...one of those times was when I recorded the video to use here...lame.

Smart and Convenient 4MP Light Bulb Security Camera Indoor/Outdoor

I recently installed the Amcrest Link 4MP Light Bulb Camera and it’s been a surprisingly versatile addition to my home setup. I love that it screws into a standard E27 socket no complicated mounting or extra wiring required. This made installation much quicker than I expected.

The video quality is crisp and clear even in low light conditions thanks to the AI night color feature. The pan and tilt controls are intuitive through the app which allows me to monitor wider areas without needing multiple cameras. Human detection has been surprisingly accurate sending me alerts only when there’s actual activity instead of triggering on every little motion.

I also appreciate the dual band Wi Fi support and the option to store footage locally on a MicroSD card. It’s reassuring to have recordings saved without needing to rely solely on cloud subscriptions. Setting up the camera in the app was straightforward and I was able to view live streams, adjust angles and manage alerts easily.

The design itself is subtle it blends into light fixtures and doesn’t feel like a bulky security device which is perfect for front porches or indoor areas where appearance matters. Overall this camera combines convenience, smart features and reliable performance. It’s a great solution if you want a flexible, non intrusive security upgrade without complicated installation.

Amcrest link app only. Will not connect to a DVR app. Mobile device access only

I am a fan of Amcrest, so when this was offered, I jumped on it. The camera quality is very good and the mounting and use case as a light with a camera at the bottom is really appealing.

If you want a camera that is only going to be accessible from a mobile device, this will do well. As stated the camera itself is high quality and works very well. Motion detection is solid and you can put an SD Card in it to do some local storage so you don't have to lock into a cloud subscription. It was pretty easy to setup using the app, the camera will talk to you letting you know it is in pairing mode (Nice touch). This also highlights that you can also speak through the camera if you want its got a mic and speaker. They work well.

The bad, its only usable in the Amcrest Link app. This means you can't combine this camera with your other Amcrest cameras that you might have on an existing Amcrest DVR app. I have 8 or so other AMcrest cameras some are just strait up IP and others are targeted at the Amcrest home app. These all play well together. This camera however does not.

Overall a well built camera, easy setup and quality picture, it also has very usable software. Its a bit weak on compatibility even in the same manufacturer systems. If you are just getting started setting up your camera set at your location, you will be ok with this just be sure to stick to Amcrest offerings that call out they are for the link app.

Oblong, but functional.

This camera by Amcrest installs right into a standard light socket. It is oddly shaped, though I guess there is no other way around it to have a light and a pan/tilt camera all in one. The bulb itself puts out a surprising amount of light. The camera image is sharp and responsive, and the pan and tilt controls give you a nice wide view of the area. I also like the two-way audio; the speaker isn’t huge, but the volume is decent enough and usable. Videos can be recorded on a microSD card for long term storage, which is the option I use rather than paying for cloud storage. Here is my one gripe – the app requirement. Setup was quick enough, and the app connected without much trouble. However, you must register to use this camera, and you can only use it within the Amcrest ecosystem. So, if you have other cameras in your home that are not Amcrest, you may have some trouble. I really wish there was a native way that systems like this could integrate easily with other camera platforms instead of being locked into specific ecosystems.

The Sneakiest Security Camera (In the Best Way)

This camera is one of those smart devices that makes you wonder why more people don’t use this style of setup.

The light bulb design is brilliant. Instead of drilling holes, running wires, or mounting bulky cameras, you literally just screw it into a standard light socket and it’s ready to go. Installation took only a few minutes and was honestly one of the easiest security camera setups I’ve done.

The 4MP resolution looks great, giving clear and detailed video whether you’re checking live view or reviewing footage later. The pan and tilt function is another huge plus because it lets you move the camera around to cover more space instead of being stuck with one fixed angle.

I also really like the AI human detection. It helps cut down on unnecessary alerts so you’re not constantly getting notifications for random movement. When you do get an alert, it’s actually useful.

Night performance is impressive as well. The AI color night vision keeps the image clear even in low light, which makes it easier to identify people or activity around the area.

Another great feature is the dual-band WiFi support (2.4GHz and 5GHz), which helps keep the connection stable. And the option to use microSD storage up to 128GB means you can record locally without relying entirely on cloud subscriptions.

Overall, this camera is simple, clever, and very effective. It’s a great way to add security coverage without complicated installation, and the light bulb design makes it surprisingly discreet too.

Easy setup and fast camera movement.

This isn't a bad camera, but it's locations are limited by the need to have a lamp or other bulb fixture to use this camera in. Having a pan and tilt operation is a very useful function, if you can strategically place this camera in a common access area, you will get the most out of it.

The app is easy to use and mostly user friendly and intuitive, it took a couple minutes for my smart phone to see the camera hotspot in order to set it up, but that may have been my phone. Pan and Tilt movement is fast and very sensitive on the app, small finger swipes will make it move a great deal.

The images are very good as well as the audio pickup. This manufacture offers cloud storage but you can use a memory card to keep local recordings.

I only gave this camera 4 stars because the software isn't ONVIF compatible, since I run a camera DVR, I can't incorporate this camera into my system, it's strictly a stand alone camera.

Great camera

Very good light build indoor and outdoor camera. One thing I really like is that it comes with an extension in case the lamp it's longer or bigger. Also with a connector directly to the wall outlets. That makes it very easy to use any were on the house without any complications. Have one that works perfect and the video it's great. A took pictures with a tape measuring so you can see better the real size.

Has better security software, and video feed. Hasn’t been hacked yet. 👍

Definitely one of the better WiFi cameras that Amcrest actually cared about. The security software was recently upgraded and for the moment it has not be hacked. Good job Amcrest! The built in light, it bright and can be programmed to turn on when it detects movement and the 4 MP camera has decent feed back. When connected to the 5 GHz network band; streaming the live feed is fast and controlling the moment is responsive. I have used many products from Amcrest and they have been a hit or miss; but I am happy to announce that this one is solid. The only thing that could be improved on the is the motion light, it’s not very bright and it doesn’t really deter crime. Make it brighter and can could a strong 5 star.

Nice Camera, Convenient to Install

I was looking for a smarter outdoor camera for my porch and came across this 4-megapixel WiFi indoor and outdoor camera. It has several features that really stood out to me. One of the best is the human detection feature, which allows the camera to detect, record, and track a person when they enter the viewing area. To me, that is a real advantage and a strong deterrent if someone comes onto your porch when they should not.

It offers flexible connectivity, supporting both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz dual band WiFi. It also supports a microSD card for storage up to 128 GB, which is great if you prefer not to pay for a cloud subscription. The camera is rated IP45, meaning it can handle some exposure to water, though it is not fully waterproof.

Another feature I really like is that it screws directly into a light bulb socket for power. That makes installation very convenient since you do not have to run wires or worry about recharging batteries.

Overall, you will need to download the companion app on your smartphone to view and manage the camera, as that is the primary way to access it. With its smart features and easy installation, I would definitely give this one a thumbs up.

Works well

My daughter has several Amcrest cameras, and I was impressed with the quality of the video, so I decided to try this one at my front door. I got an Amcrest POE switch and hooked it up. I'm using the Amcrest View Pro software on my Note 9. I am recording to a 128GB card which I installed in the camera. With continuous recording, it holds several days - more than a week. It's simple to view the live video or the recording.

I could not set up the recording on the disk via the phone. I tried Amcrest's desktop software, but had some issues with that, so I tried web browsers. I couldn't get Firefox to work, but Internet Explorer works very well. I was able to set everything up for recording in addition to viewing live and recorded data. I'm planning on implementing a NAS with a Raspberry Pi at some point, but for now the card is all I'm using. I ordered two more to put in other locations.

I attached a couple of screenshots from my phone. The daytime one is from the recorded data, and you can see there's a little bit of a challenge with high contrast lighting. The nighttime one is live. It's very dark out, and you can still see very well.
