Works as advertised including safety issues.

Had an SRS glitch and was able to identify the passenger seat occupancy and position sensors. Was highly doubtful it would be able to identify and address issues with the airbag system, but it did the job and save me $$$$'s

A must for every BMW owner - Works great and easy to use - Pays for itself 10x over

This scanner is a must for any BMW owner

No more going into before going into the dealer blind

Now you can go in armed with diagnostic codes and even solutions

With the expense of things at the dealership nowadays, this tool pays for itself 10 times over

The battery registration feature alone can save you hundreds - PLUS smog testing!!

You do have to have a little bit of automotive savvy to operate the device properly

I have had several of these devices in the past and they work great

Especially these Ancel handheld devices

Just plug into the ODB2 port and operate via the handheld itself or use the app on your phone

I prefer the app as it keeps my diagnostics organized and even saves the results for future review

Overall the small handheld device provides the average BMW owner tons of info for DIY or repair shop visits

great tool so far

Registered a new battery replacement. Different battery from what was already installed.

Worked better than using BimmerCode app.

This tool with no issues activated and deactivated EPB fast. Read and clear codes pretty good. It does feel like good quality for my bimmer.

Couldn’t connect

I was happy with the purchase but the problem with it was when I tried to update the device and my computer couldn’t connect to the device so I could install the update. I have tried different usb ports and different cables and I even tried different computers and they all said couldn’t connect to device.

A must have for BMW owners

Whether you're a DIY enthusiast or simply want to stay ahead of expensive dealership visits, the ANCEL BM700 PRO is a powerful, user-friendly scanner that puts full vehicle diagnostics at your fingertips. With its latest AUTO V-I-N feature, full system coverage, and essential reset functions, it’s a top-tier choice for any BMW group vehicle owner.

Positives:

- AUTO V-I-N Feature for Instant Scanning - The upgraded AUTO V-I-N function detects your car instantly—no need to input the model or manually search. It recognizes your BMW, Mini, or Rolls-Royce and pulls up relevant systems for a quick, comprehensive scan.

- Full-System Diagnosis - This scanner digs deep—reading fault codes across engine, ABS, SRS/airbag, transmission, tire pressure, A/C, and more. It gives you insight into every module (body, chassis, drivetrain), allowing you to catch issues early.

- Advanced Service Resets & Battery Registration - Supports oil reset, airbag reset, TPMS reset, throttle relearn, injector coding, brake pad replacement, ABS bleeding, and more. Battery replacement and registration—a must for modern BMWs—is simple and DIY-friendly with this tool.

- Quick I/M Readiness & S-MOG Test - One-click I/M readiness check helps you quickly assess inspection readiness. View live data streams (fuel pressure, temp, airflow) in real time with clear graphs or raw text for better understanding.

- Plug & Play Simplicity - No WiFi or complex setup required. Just plug it into your OBD port and you're ready to diagnose in minutes. Perfect for both casual users and experienced tinkerers.

- OBD2 Compatibility for All Cars - Beyond BMW-specific features, it works on most OBD2-compliant vehicles for generic diagnostics, including check engine light issues and EVAP system tests.

- Multi-language Support & Night Mode - Offers multi-language support and dual-mode display (day/night themes) for easy viewing in any environment.

Negatives:

- BMW-Focused - While it offers basic OBD2 functions for most vehicles, advanced features are limited to BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce—not ideal if you're working across multiple car brands.

- No Touchscreen or WiFi - This is a wired tool with button navigation, which may feel outdated for users accustomed to app-based or touchscreen interfaces.

Conclusion:

The ANCEL BM700 PRO is a reliable, efficient, and budget-friendly solution for BMW group owners looking to take control of their vehicle's diagnostics and maintenance. From battery registration to full-system scans and reset functions, it’s a comprehensive tool packed into a compact, easy-to-use device.

Perfect for driveway diagnostics, repair prep, and avoiding unnecessary dealer visits. Highly recommended for any BMW/Mini owner!

High Quality MINI Cooper Diagnostic Tool

Very nice scanner. Loads better than any of the generic ODB II apps I have used. Most importantly, this has model specific codes for MINI vehicles. I used it to scan my 2019 Cooper S and although I don't have any current issues, it did show a lot of detailed vehicle information and it also allows you to very easily reset common service functions without having to go to the dealer.

Hardware feels great. It is rugged without being too terribly bulky. Has a nice grippy exterior and feels like it could take some abuse. ODB cable itself is very thick, perhaps my only criticism is that it could be a bit longer, but I think for most folks, this isn't really an issue. A carrying (and seemingly waterproof bag) is also included which helps keep the attached cord manageable when not in use.

Overall, this is a really nice reader. For anyone doing their own work, or just wanting better vehicle diagnostics, I think Ancel makes a really good product. Given the functionality, and robust design, I think the cost is very reasonably for this good quality diagnostic tool.

This is a reasonably full featured BMW scanner.

This is a reasonably full featured BMW specific scanner. It apparently does Rolls-Royce and mini, but I do not have either of those vehicles to test. I’ve had the item for approximately two weeks, and I have used it on a couple of different BMWs, an F90 and an E60.

The pluses:

This is a bidirectional scanner. That means it will not only allow you to read codes, but it will also allow you to control items that can be controlled on your vehicle. You can read wheel speed sensors to figure out antilock, breaking faults, ECU codes to figure out if your automobile is rich or lean, and so on.

It also has the ability to reset your CBS system (the condition based monitoring system that tells you to change your oil and so on). You can calibrate a number of things, including your electronic throttle, reset your transmission shift, adaptations, and stuff like that.

The menus were easy to navigate and it did what I asked you to do. For example, I asked it to reset the oil light right after I change the oil and it had no problem doing that. I also reset the service interval because while I was there, I looked at all of the internals underneath the car.

The screen is a little on the small side and you cannot easily graph multiple things which is sometimes helpful despite that it worked well and was able to do what I needed to do. You can still look at a bunch of censor data and it will provide numeric responses.

This will also help you diagnose why you’re having a check engine light. You really still need to know what you’re doing because it will not tell you that your oxygen sensor is broken or you need a new mass airflow sensor. It literally reports the data to you and you have to figure it out.. if you do not know how to figure it out, then you’ll have to do some reading to help you with your particular case.

The minuses:

The screen is small and not touchscreen. Graphing is not supported. The menus require you to go back-and-forth a lot and I couldn’t find a place to search for particular sensors or switches.

The item was priced at around $150. Honestly, improve screen, size and graphing would be appreciated for that amount of cost. There are phone based and tablet based solutions which provide the same level of functionality at a similar price. Additionally, I’m not exactly sure how to update the item when new vehicles come out.

powerful dedicated scanner

This is a great tool to have in your car tools drawer. Plug it into the OBD port and it comes on right away. Quickly reads error codes to help you figure out what might be going on.

I've already used it to reset the oil change interval and register a battery on my E92 M3, but can confirm it works just fine with my F25 X3 as well. Being able to read data like oil temperature, voltage, and much much more can be very useful as well.

This scanner feels durable and has easy to press buttons. USB-C for charging which is a must in the modern day.

Really Great Auto Diagnostic Scanner

Before ordering this ANCEL BM700 PRO (for BMW) Scanner I already had an OBDII scanner (an older one). Since I already had a tool similar to the BM700, some might wonder why I ordered the BM700. The primary reason was for the battery registration function. To the extent possible I have always been a DIYer, and replacing the battery in my car is something that I could handle without a problem, but not the required registration of the new battery into the system - I believe that requires a trip to the dealer's service department and an outlay of a few hundred dollars.

For less than that amount, anyone competent enough to replace a car battery and armed with this scanner can easily handle the registration themselves, PLUS be able to access a wealth of information about their car, read (and clear) any trouble codes that the vehicle's on-board computer might throw, and much more. I live in a state that doesn't require regular vehicle inspections, but if I DID I would really appreciate the I/M functionality, which helps to prepare for the testing that a vehicle inspection performs. The results of the I/M tests could reveal issues that would cause the FAIL of the vehicle inspection so they can be addressed BEFORE the actual inspection and save potential re-testing that might be required.

This is a well-made piece of equipment with a ruggedized case, a vivid and easy to read color screen (not touch sensitive) and a user-friendly menu system to access all the functionality the tool provides. It comes with a User's Manual, a protective drawstring pouch for storage/carrying of the tool, and a USB-C to USB-A cable. I didn't know what that was for at first, but it turns out that the manufacturer's web site has downloadable firmware updates available. Once downloaded, the scanner can be connected to the PC on which contains the firmware's installer, and the installation kicked off to update the scanner. As of the time of this writing, I learned that the firmware on the scanner is the SAME as the update which is on the web site. It's good to know that the scanner ships with up-to-date firmware!

The one thing that was a bit sub-optimal, however, was the User's Manual included in the box. The information provided there was quite "bare bones".

I would heartily recommend the BM700 Pro to anyone who has a BMW, a MINI, or a Rolls Royce (since each of those makes are covered by the MB700. Owners of other vehicles can also benefit from the non-vehicle-specific functionality that this scanner provides; but for those three makes of vehicles the BM700 Pro is especially great!

Great OBDII scanner

This OBDII scanner is a well-built, purpose-driven tool designed for BMW, Mini, and Rolls Royce vehicles. It has a bright screen and a protective, flexible rubberized case that gives it a solid, durable feel. The scanner is standard in size and weight, with a built-in, non-detachable cable of good length and USB-C charging, making it practical for everyday use.

Setup is as simple as it gets—just plug it into your vehicle and it's ready to go. No tools or configuration are needed, and it starts working almost immediately.

Functionality-wise, it handles both basic and advanced tasks well. You can easily pull diagnostic codes, reset service intervals, and access more advanced features like engine and transmission programming. The interface is user-friendly for simple tasks, while the advanced options offer plenty for those with more experience. It's best suited for DIYers or enthusiasts who service their own BMWs at home.

In terms of performance, the scanner works efficiently and reliably. The only notable limitation is that the OBDII cable is hardwired—if it ever fails, it can't be replaced independently. That said, it appears durable and built to last. Maintenance is minimal—just keep in mind that while the plastic casing is tough, it may scratch with regular use. It comes with a USB-C charging cable and doesn’t lack any key accessories.

No real flaws stood out, though a removable cable could add extra flexibility. Overall, this is a 5-star tool for anyone looking to handle serious BMW maintenance at home. It’s capable of resetting all service intervals and even registering new batteries to the BMS. Highly recommended.

Fast response

The cord has good length. Fits well in the hand. Most important feature to me is it reads transmission temperature, which is essential for fluid change.

Did not register 2008 BMW 335i battery that tests good.

Purchased specifically for battery registration in cars computer 2008 BMW 335i. Current battery tests good on several battery testers (My personal and local auto parts store). Before removing old battery, attempted to register as new battery. It went through the process noting " if another battery capacity...", "last battery replacement...", "battery could not be replaced. Possible cause(s) of fault:"

-no comms with BS or engine electronics

-DME/DDE program status cannot save battery charge

-Terminal 15 was not switched on.

-Attention: Battery condition cannot be determined by charge alone. (paraphrased. but mine tested good )

After testing battery, reconnected itand went through the same set up receiving the same results. Yes engine was off. I would have added a Passed Battery Tester pic but did not take pictures.

A necessity for any BMW DIY work.

This ANCEL BM700 scanner is a very nice scanner, with well laid out menus and so much functionality for a BMW that would normally require you to make an expensive or time consuming trip to a dealership. Just for the ability to recode the battery alone this tool is worth the money. The instruction manual is well written and includes English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish, but it only describes how to operate the scanner. If you want to look up codes it doesn't include a table of definitions, although the screen gives some info about the error. The scanner has a nice rubberized shell to protect it from scrapes, bumps, and drops.

I ended up having to test this on a friend's E46 M3 (2004) and the level of information is was able to give, and the read and teach the steering angle sensor (a component that notoriously fails on these cars causing problems with the traction control systems), and so much more, makes this an invaluable tool for anyone wanting to work on their own BMW. I was not able to test any of these features on my own car. I have a 2019 Z4 and ANCEL has not yet added that chassis to their list of readable cars. My fault for not reading the listing thoroughly enough as the supported Z4 chassis are cryptically listed and 2016 is the newest they support today, but ANCEL seems to update their firmware regularly so I am very hopeful that this will still be invaluable to me by the time I need it. I will be calling their support folks to confirm and will update if the news is dismal. it was able to interface with the computer, just not read or reset any BMW specific data so I am hopeful.

I did connect it to a 2005 Chevy 1500 truck with an intermittent flashing CEL (due to a misfire according to my other scanner) just to test the connection with a non-BMW OBDC car and it was able to connect and read the computer, although it was not able to pull stored intermittent codes, or at least I was not able to find a way to do this yet. I will update if I figure it out.

My buddy with the 2004 M3 was very impressed with this ANCEL scanner and said he was going to get one for himself.

Helps troubleshoot issues and gives you some knowledge when getting your vehicle serviced

I ordered this product because I own two BMW 328xi and wanted to be able to run diagnostic tests on the vehicles should I ever get an engine light failure, going for an emissions test, and avoid costly repairs.

This diagnostic scanner feels very well made and includes an attached pin cord that connects to the port under the dashboard. It also includes a user manual in many languages to further understand this device.

The code reader automatically turns on when connected and I tested several functions including a battery check to see the current voltage.

This product can be used on most cars, but, is designed for the BMW. I searched under 3 series but was unable to find the 328XI model. It was still able t run the test when I chose a different model. I ran the basic functions system scan and it found 21 modules for my vehicle. Listings in red indicate a possible error in the code. As I'm not a mechanic, it's hard to understand most of this, but, it does give me the knowledge to troubleshoot car issues. For example, the Bluetooth works for my phone but not for audio. When I checked the Radio information it does indicate that the Bluetooth is inactive. Now I know, but, how do I activate it? Hmmm.

I also scanned the IM readiness, which is what would tell you if you would pass emissions and that worked well.

The pros of this code reader were

• Very heavy-duty

• Pretty easy to use and understand

• Helps troubleshoot issues and gives you some knowledge when getting your vehicle serviced.

Overall this product worked great and is a great investment for your vehicle to troubleshoot car issues. By using this code reader you have a better understanding of your car functionalities as well as a great starting point should you locate any issues. It is also a great way to periodically monitor the health of your vehicle and avoid major issues down the road. Therefore, I rate this product a five out of five stars.

Hope you liked this review and let me know if it helped you out.

Pays for itself with one feature

I have 2 BMW's My 2012 Z4 needed a new battery. When you replace a battery in a BMW you have to "register" it which tells the car you have a new battery. If you don't, the car's charging system won't charge it properly. Call your local BMW dealer and ask how much they charge to register a battery. You'll see why this scan tool is a good value. Calling it a scan tool is misleading considering it does much more than just scan.

The tool itself is great. It is easy to read and feels substantial. It is surrounded by a rubber material which makes it easy to grip and protects it.

The instructions indicate it will only register a battery with the same specifications (Amp hours and Cold Cranking Amps.) That wasn't a problems for me since that's what I was going to buy anyway. However when I got into the Battery Special Functions I was offered a choice to register the same battery specs as well as higher or lower specs. That's a nice option. I think it may have been added in the software update I performed (see below).

As soon as I got the scan tool I went to Ancel website and downloaded a software update for it. At first the update software couldn't find the scan tool. I suspected it was because I had it plugged into a USB port on my monitor. I relocated the USB plug (supplied with the scan tool) to my computer and it worked like a charm so bear that in mind when you update the software.

When I first went to register the battery it said it was unsuccessful. I had the car in accessory mode. When I switch to full ignition "on" mode the registration was successful. The tool will tell you the engine doesn't have to be running but be aware the ignition has to be in the run position even if you don't start the engine. With the BMW Z4 (E89) you press the start button twice without your foot on the brake and you are in the run position. That way you don't have to reprogram your radio, seat settings, etc.

I'm very happy with this tool. I got it primarily for the battery registration but it does much more. It's nice to be able to check my BMWs whenever I want. I highly recommend it.

Great tool, not just for BMW

This scanner is great, I expected a scanner with all these functions to cost more. For non BMW vehicles, it still handles all the functions of a basic OBDII code reader and then some, but faster and easier than my cheapo one, and looks better doing it. I love the lit up color display. On my old Corolla it pulled the same codes I already knew needed some love. The battery test is cool, reads voltage before, during, and after starting and as the alternator kicks in. Definitely a good tool. On my 2003 BMW Z4, it does SO MUCH MORE! I found all kinds of faults in lots of other modules that I never knew existed - a standard scanner will not give this info. Since it has 150k miles and there's no telling what kind of history there is, I cleared everything and we'll check again in a few days to see what pops back up as current. The live data display is actually real time, so much better than my cheap scanner that updates every couple seconds. You can find just about every button and knob in the car and watch it real time as you push/turn it. You can watch brake fluid pressure live as you push the pedal. There are so many troubleshooting tools here, it's amazing. After using this scanner, I would recommend buying to anyone even thinking of buying a BMW, the knowledge gained during a test drive could save you from a lemon!
