I will start this by saying this is my favorite book and I have fallen asleep to it every night for years. I love the concept but there was a lot to be desired. Some of the illustrations, particularly the larger landscapes are beautiful. But a lot of the overall style is jarring. Peoples eyes don’t have any real depth. They are just flat colored circles. Everyone looks so old even the children. And what did they do to poor Annes nose?? That was supposed to be her one beautiful feature. A lot of details were wrong too. Annes dresses were supposed to be plain, long sleeved, and with no embellishment. Not at all like the ones pictured. She never wears the orphanage dress after she gets her new ones. They make Annes dress from Matthew yellow instead of brown for some reason. Diana doesn't suggest they run to the guest bed Anne does. And Anne and Mrs Barry become friends during that trip not later. They rename “ Barrys Pond” “ Orchard Slope Pond” for some reason. They don’t talk about how shy Matthew is and that he is scared of women and girls until most of the way through the book. And at the end of the book they completely leave out that Marilla cannot manage the farm because she is going blind and that Matthews heart attack was caused by the news that they lost all of their money in a bank crash. Annes decision makes so much more sense with that information. So much of the beautiful prose of the original book is also left out. Anne of Green Gables is typically 200-300 pages long and this book was 229 pages. I wish they had used some of that space to take more lines directly from the book. Overall wanted to love a graphic novel of my favorite book. But it was not as good as hoped for. Maybe someone else will try again later.

Broke within 1 day
My 8 year old loves this book and read the whole book since we got it yesterday. However, the pages came out of the binding already. She’s not been rough with it either.

Adorable Graphic Novel
Purchased this for my 7 year old daughter. She loved the colored photos and it really does capture the silly, well known antics of Anne.

Artwork Just Beautiful to Read
Wholesome story of an 11y/o orphan that her heart is as beautiful as the art work in this novel. Will teach! Shows honesty, loyalty, and how positive and imagination goes a long way.

No one has pupils .. to creepy, distracting.
This could be a 5 star book
We love Anne of Green gables and were stoked someone made a illustrated book!
However... Why did the illustrator not give anyone eyes with pupils ?
It just ruins all the illustrations..
It's so weird, zombi like.
Fix this oddity and reprint the book , and it'll be 8 ⭐

A beautiful new take on an old classic!
A beautiful new take on one of my favorite classics. The illustrator & adapter truly capture the emotion and beauty of Anne & her wild imagination, feisty spirit, and colorful friends. I can’t get over the beautiful art on every page!!! Those who love Green Gables will appreciate this graphic novel edition of her beginning story!

Beautifully done artistic and accurate
This is an excellent, and beautifully done representation of a well loved classic story. To address a problem raised by a different review. The page where its not possible to read all the text is meant to be that way. It’s meant to show that Anne has a tendency of talking to the point of distraction. The artist was trying to draw attention to what was happening to her friend while she was blabbering on. It’s not important what Anne was talking about, only that her friend was accidentally drinking wine instead of raspberry cordial, and subsequently getting drunk. This is the only part of the book that puts the art over top of the words. It is on purpose.

Illustrated Beautifully!
This book is so beautifully illustrated. All of the cherished parts of the story are here in beautiful detail. I felt joy and sadness looking at these pictures. Absolutely beautiful! Ordered a second copy for my 7 year old niece.

Beautiful graphic novel
This is a beautiful book. It’s engaging and the pictures are well drawn with vibrant colors. It holds the attention of my 11 year old girl well. My only issue is that there seems to be a printing issue. We’ve only found one page so far but it made the the bubbles unreadable for my kid. The edges were cut off and the bubbles were placed behind objects. I was able to fill in the blanks for her but it’s frustrating nonetheless.

Pictures cover up the words
I love the idea of books like this being put into the format of a graphic novel. The students who frequent our school library LOVE graphic novels. I purchased this version of Anne of Green Gables for the library , and the students complain that the pictures cover up the words on so many of the pages that it is frustrating to try to read the story. I am very disappointed.

So so lovely!
I dearly love Anne of Green Gables and don’t feel you can have too many versions of the same beloved tale. I look forward to my children growing up with her & loving her too (my son included).
This is the latest book added to my collection and it certainly is a lovely addition. The art work is simply lovely; you can tell the ladies who created it love Anne Girl too.
I could not be happier with my purchase!

Excellent!
I’ve never read Anne of Green Gables. There. I’ve said it aloud. That’s one of the first steps in recovery, is it not?
How could a lifelong reader, a middle grade teacher, an aspiring writer and someone whose moniker is THE READING COUNTESS never have read this classic? I don’t know. But I’ve always secretly admonished myself for not having read it-along with Heidi and Pippi Longstocking.
So when I saw one of my students returning this graphic novel to our lower school library, I quickly plucked it out of her hands and checked it out for myself.
And I’m glad I did. It’s a quick read, read in one sitting while waiting for my youngest to finish batting practice, in fact. And it makes me want to read the real deal novel even more so...which is, I suppose, part of its allure.
The illustrations are by the same author of SHEETS, an odd, yet strangely compelling graphic novel in its own right.

Absolutely beautiful illistrations. I'd love to get prints of them from the artist! My daughter and I read this together(she loves graphic novels). The author and illistrator are a great duo! I'd love to see more classics turned into graphic novels. Beautifully done!

and we both loved it! The dialogue was subtle without being vague ...
I just finished this last week, reading it with my 5.5 yo daughter, and we both loved it! The dialogue was subtle without being vague or impressionistic, and the moments Brenna Thummler (illustrator) created really made the characters and expressions special. I appreciated how the work (esp. the images) let the characters have some breathing room (i.e. not having loads of dialogue on every panel). Some panels got a full 2-pages that created an immersive world for this rendering of Anne. I'm a relative newcomer to Anne, but I'd happily revisit. We've been telling friends about it since we finished and felt we should give it a review here. And yes, there were some tender tears. Beautiful book.
