Good dual band for home or vehicle

I have purchased several Anytone handhelds so I decided to take the chance on this mobile unit. So far I like its reliable transmit and receive quality. Very easy set up and works well from home with the right antenna and power supply. My only very minor complaint (really a non issue) is the hook on the microphone instead of traditional mounting mechanism. The mic also takes a little learning to properly use the function keys. Overall I give this radio high marks for ability and value.

Died after two months. No Tech support either.

A total Piece of garbage! This thing turns off in the middle of a session for no reason. The menu system is almost impossible to understand. It NEVER remembers your repeater settings. Turn it off and it's like starting over. I even programmed it using the ChiRP software. It still would switch repeater offset to a random number or integer at start up.

After two months this radio died. Just a vague "product support" page which is absolutely useless. When it was working it had decent range and clarity. Now it's dead just after return date passed. Do NOT buy this awful piece of JUNK.

Nice radio.

Was easy to program via CHIRP, you must select 778UV (VOX) for the 778UVII model. If you have limited/incorrect frequency ranges, look up how to unlock the radio and change the band mode from either 1 or 3 to mode 2. (Mine came with the correct frequency ranges)

Audio sounds great, mic has a speaker but it's quiet compared to the radio so I turned off the mic speaker.

Great little radio for the 2m or 10m bands. Good value.

This mobile radio is working great for me. I'm using it as my 2 meter base until for my Ham shack. I built a 2 meter ground plane antenna and purchased the Jesverty SPS-1330 power supply to power it. With that set-up, I've had several weeks now of successfull QSOs and interacting with a local NET via a repeater. The programming cable that comes with this radio WORKED PERFECTLY to program it. I used the CHIRP app to program this radio. There are a few reviews that mentioned they had to buy a different programming cable and couldn't use the CHIRP app, but if that was the case, those issues have been RESOLVED. My guess is that those problems were with version I of this radio. This is version II. So, I can verify the fact that these issues have been fixed. I'm very happy with the purchase. Fyi, this radio is voice only. You can't do CW with it. It's got both the 2 meter band and the 10 meter band. YOU NEED TO AT LEAST HAVE YOUR TECHNICIAN LICENSE TO TALK ON THIS RADIO. Otherwise, it's illegal for you to do that. You can easily listen to Weather reports that broadcast on the 2 meter band and I have been picking up police and fire frequencies too. (For monitoring only, of course).

Compact Mobile Radio

I've always wanted to install a radio inside my 2018 KIA Sorento but I didn't want it to stick out like a sore thumb. The Anytone is small and compact enough that I can install it under the steering wheel without getting in the way. I eventually extended the microphone cable so I can connect the microphone from the center console.

For these types of radio's, it's very easy to use. I was able to manually program in a local repeater with relative ease. I used CHIRP to program the radio and its menu systems as I have well over 150 frequencies to cover most of the repeaters in the Northeast US.

The radio works quite well. The audio is okay and I like that you adjust things like squelch and power levels right from the front panel or even the microphone.

It's no 50 watt rig but compared to my previous setup of using a HT within the car, it's far superior.

No customer service. Radio fails. Don't buy from this seller.

I purchased two 778UVII radios to give to family members. . They came in decent time. One of them when programming kept going into white screen and no buttons work including OFF. Have to remove power from the radio completely to reset. Then I wasn't sure which was which as they sat on my desk since I wasn't rushed to install them. However one of them continues to go to white screen every so often.

The white screen is back and Hesenate is totally ignoring me. The radios have 90 day warranty. I've sent them at least 5 emails requesting help. Zero response.

No customer service.

UPDATE: Hesenate finally contacted me, they said all me emails went to their Spam folder. Maybe, maybe not, since I didn't hear from them until I posted the above review. After some time they agreed to let me send the 778UV II back for replacement. It cost me $13 to return it.

I asked them to please check the next one to verify it worked.

I received the replacement radio and right out of the box I get a white screen whenever I turn it off with the power switch and turn it back on I get white screen. It seems to work just fine IF you never turn it off with the switch button.

I contacted them again and it took many emails to get a response. They sort of told me it was my programming or I was the only one with this problem. Neither was correct. I know others who have had the issue and as I said I pulled it out of the box connected to a power supply and turned it off and on with the switch (when connecting to a power supply it comes on automatically).

I sent video and still shot of the white screen and then they finally agreed to refund me AND send me a prepaid mailer as I requested.

Maybe the base problem is that the radio is a 778 UV II not just a 778UV. But of the original two one of them does work as expected.

They started out at 50% bad but with 2 of 3 they moved to 67% bad.

I will bump the review to a 2 star because they did make good on the returns even though it was like pulling teeth to get their support.

Works great and surprised

For a small radio, I'm very surprised the range is get with it in a house base station. We'll built and durable in my opinion. Going to transfer it to my truck.

Fairly Critical

Not ready to go

The power cable really should come with a 12 volt vehicle plug right out of the box. If one wants to do some alternative wiring setup then that individual would already be capable enough of cutting off that plug to do whatever they wanted. This is a "mobile" the base system should be ready to plug into a vehicle right away. Now I have to mess around ordering and installing a 12 volt plug, my time is more valuable than the extra $1 for them to update this unit with a plug included.

Best bang for your buck

This radio exceeded my expectations, especially for the money. Mine put out about 45W. The hand mic is well built and has a back light, which I wasn’t expecting. Menu system is straight forward and easy to use. Can be programmed with chirp if you want to dump a big list on it. The main body has some weight to it and feels well built. Got excellent audio reports from others. While there are no advanced features, for the money I’m very happy with my purchase.

Great entry ham radio.

This is the 3rd radio I received. I bought one a few years back and been using it until I have it away to a friend who finally got his ham license. Well forward a few years I was needing another radio for my daily driver. Ordered this radio last week on 02/10/2024 and received it on the same day. Upon receive, I powered it up with a 12v 20Ah LIPO battery and the radio turned on. Was able to program the radio and upload all my frequency into the radio. This is the second version of the radio where if you want change the Band Plan, you have to do it thru the factory CPS. So soon after everything was loaded up. Once I plugged the mic back in and attempt to push the PTT button. The radio suddenly turned off on itself. I thought it was maybe the battery I was using, I then switched to another battery with the same result. I then left the radio on for a few minutes and it then turned itself off again. I thought it was maybe the code plug, I reset the radio and wiped the memory and the radio still does it. But now when radio turned itself off, you cannot turn it back on until you unplug the radio from the power source.

Received the replacement today 02/12/2024 and fired her up. Loaded the frequency and everything works. It's a great entry mobile ham radio with the support of CHIRP.

Above expectations

It’s a budget dual band but I have to give credit, this thing is well built performance is better than expected and I am very impressed with the quality and features. I used it for a mobile box build and I’m probably going to grab another one for my camper.

Compact 2 meter 440 mobile 25 watt radio that works great.

the function buttons allow customization and quick access to features from changing power to VOX operation. Subaudible tone settings are easy and quick. Using Chirp software on my Mac Studio worked seamlessly and smooth. Upload and Download speed not fast but it’s ok. The color display is bright and has all relevant info you need. Audio quality is very good for the small speaker, and people I spoke with seem to hear my audio clearly and pleasant. Microphone has lock button to keep radio on the mode/channel you want. When you set 20-30 channels with repeaters, Tone squelch etc,.. you can quickl go to the frequency of choice using mic buttons .Only thing is the beep and audio is really hot. The volume is a function key touch and then you twist the function knob to dial audio/squelch etc… up and down as you desire, All in all a GREAT little radio going in my Jeep. This one fits the bill at $120 ease of programming. I will install this week and let. You know how it goes. Very happy with this product with a solid build and straightforward menu this is a keeper. de:K3GO.

Great little dual band radio!!

This little radio exceeded my expectations, its a small package that is powerful enough to reach repeaters in Houston several miles away. The audio is clear and loud enough with the built in speaker, the microphone is excellent and radio has durable construction, its a well made radio. There are some functions you'll have to get used to, but completely workable and for the price you can't beat it. I've been impressed with its performance & quality, and would recommend to anyone looking for an affordable dual band radio. The picture is shown installed in my 2020 Ford Ranger, fits perfectly in that slot in front of the shifter, I used Gorilla Glue doublestick tape for easy removal but holds very firm in place.

I Really Like This Radio

Installed this in my truck almost two months ago and I love it. It's small (which I wanted) but don't let that fool you. It's a fantastic and inexpensive radio for my needs. I use it for 2m/70cm and haven't been disappointed. Using it with a Nagoya UT-72 magnetic antenna on roof of truck. Speaker is plenty loud. Extremely easy to program with the download from Anytone. I wasn't crazy about the hook receiver on the mic so I replaced it with a universal (standard) microphone button. The only thing I don't like (not a deal breaker) is that the first two frequencies are preset by the factory and I cannot get rid of them. Regardless of what I program for the first two channels the presets come right back and you cannot remove them from the scan feature either. I've read that there's no fix for this but maybe someone out there knows how. Overall a great radio. I would definitely buy another one.

HAM in a can

Studying for the FCC Technician license, so i can't comment on how good it is or isn't. Makes for a tidy instillation, that can run on any power available.

Power output as advertised

I use this on Medium Power Setting to drive a VHF Linear Amplifier. The output at Medium is very close to 15 watts (144 to 148 MHz) which is the Maximum for my amp. I program the radio using Chirp. Works well.

Great radio for the price

Works great for my purposes. Could not download the programming software from Anytone though. Was able to use CHIRP, and after trying a few different com ports I was able to program it. Programming it manually is extremly easy even for a beginner.

Reasonably good dual band transceivers for the price point.

Reasonably good dual band transceivers for the price point. Shines on 70 cm flawless operation experienced occasional intermodulation on 2m but not a deal killer expected with several nearby amatuer operators. Audio is sufficient would benefit from a external speaker. No appreciable issues on transmit receive good signal/audio reports. Programming is relatively easy once you understand each function control. The transceiver has a good feel the microphone is solid the display is among the most attractive I've seen on a radio of this size. Used daily not a lick of trouble. For the price I would highly recommend.
