Picture included in review.

I am following the set up instructions and sadly I am unable to have the device breath.

After pulling the battery sticker out it does not breath or blink. Trouble shooting instructions could be more helpful. The picture of the instructions shared shows the vendor used the word “breathing” rather than “blinking”. First review is one star, will continue to use the device and may update the review if I can figure out how to get the device breathing.

Just don't. Buy the P1.

Bought and didn't use for a year. Tried to use it just now and pushing the battery did nothing. I pop open the underside and it's nothing like the P1 at all. There is no instruction on how to change the battery in the manual, just setup instructions. So many models use the "P2" designation, so I could only find instructions for the P1. Inside it does say "Use a lever here to change the battery". I followed this poor instruction and two very small pieces immediately break. I replaced both batteries and put the cover back on. No life at all. Don't buy this version. Stick with the P1. Horrible horrible horrible design.

3 months of use with no issues

TL:DR Love this product. It’s small, easy to use, picks up motion and responds quickly. And 100% worth the money. Very happy with this purchase.

I first want to mention that I use apple home with a HomePod mini as my hub. I set up the device on the home app without using the Aqara app at all. I got this motion detector for my bathroom hue lights. I wanted them to turn on at a very low brightness automatically when I walked in the bathroom and turn off when no motion is detected.

I needed the lights to turn on and off automatically as a nightlight when I come and go but I did not want them to turn off when I am actually using them at full brightness (it was very annoying to have them turn off when I am getting ready and step out of the bathroom for a minute or two).

The home app does not allow conditions to be used with their automations so I used an app called Home+ to set up this automation (which is the picture I uploaded). I set up the motion sensor to not input any command when the lights are set to anything besides off. Been using the motion sensor for 3 months and my setup works like a charm without any issues since instal. Apple home says battery is still at 100% (although I can’t guarantee accuracy). Would absolutely buy again.

Detects hot air

This product should not be on sale until there is a settings page available to adjust sensitivity. This sensor detects the hot air of my furnace in addition to someone being present. This makes it useless all winter. Tested in an empty basement. Lights came on whenever the furnace kicked on. This is a known issue based on the FAQ on Aqara’s site. Because this is a matter sensor, there is not a settings screen in the aqara app or the homekit interface. Do not buy if you have hot air in your home.

App doesn’t work with device

Tried several times to get the app to pair with the device. No dice. Just keeps saying the QR code doesn’t work. I saw online that many many ppl are complaining about the same issue. Should’ve done my research before and now, I have to return this junk. Hope this helps someone avoid the same mistake. Shame on you Aqara for releasing such a faulty device/app. You HAD such a good reputation in the smart home space that you’ve now squandered with me.

Dozens of false positives an hour.

I would like to move off the Samsung Smartthings ecosystem to Aqara. Sadly, these sensors are useless. I have two installed in two different closets. Both will experience false positives every two minutes but not always simultaneously (despite the two closets being three feet apart). It's a stable temperature. There are no fans or AC running.

They'll be fine for a day. Then, back to false positives. Ironically, they will sometimes not report motion when waving a hand in front of the sensor.

A few Reddit posts indicate this is a new bug for devices that worked for years, so it could be a firmware issue.

The initial setup could have been less troublesome. It is common for these devices to need 2.4G wifi. However, these devices refused to connect until 5 and 6G were completely turned off.

Nice Matter/Thread Motion Sensor

Overall, this is a neat little motion sensor that runs by Matter over Thread.

It is exposed to various platforms as “occupancy” rather than motion not due to failings on the sensors part, but rather as the current limitations of the developing Matter Standard. Also, exposed to various platforms is the light/illuminance sensor.

All in all, it functions exactly as you would expect for a motion sensor to work. If there is motion, it gets triggered. Light levels only update as motion is triggered, not a constant update; I would imagine otherwise battery brain would be obscene.

(Important to note is: You do need to have a functional thread network set up for this device to work, as that’s the communication protocol of the device)

Visually, it’s a nice looking sensor. Small, solid feeling plastic casing, feels and looks nice

To pair, you can either scan the QR code provided on the booklet that’s enclosed, but if you lose that or your QR camera is not working, the booklet provides the numbers to input. ***As well as this the Matter Code is printed on the top of the sensor it is associated with.*** Nicely discrete but accessible, should the page of the booklet be misplaced.

The batteries are 2 (two) CR2450 coin batteries. As this is a brand new sensor, battery life is still to be determined, but even so it’s not something I’m too worried about. Even the “lower” estimate of two years depending on usage is nothing to sneeze at. I’d be more concerned if it was only estimated to last a few months.

The only thing I’m not too pleased with is the inability to adjust distance/level parameters of the sensor without the, at time of writing, unreleased Aqara M3 Hub

Terrible Design DO NOT BUY - No Matter QR code ON DEVICE

I have over two dozen Thread/Matter devices, mostly from Eve. 100% of them have the Matter QR code on the device. Every. Single. One. I got the Aqara motion sensor in high hopes of something small and very flexible mount.

However, I could not even join the device to my Thread/Matter network! The QR code on the DEVICE itself is NOT a Matter QR code. It's some proprietary code. The Matter QR code is ONLY printed on the manual insert. Well that's COMPLETELY useless over time. Why? What if I have a dozen of these around the house? You have NO WAY to determine which one is which. Literally every other Matter device I have has the full QR code ON THE DEVICE.

Whoever thought this design was OK should be fired. I'm immediately sending this junk back. I would ONLY reconsider purchasing when they PUT THE DARN MATTER QR CODE ON THE DEVICE. I didn't even bother to scan the manual's QR code to test the device as the lack of the QR code ON THE DEVICE is simply unforgivable.
