Superb cartridge

By far my favorite cartridge - not just for ease of use or price but for its ability to shape sound into such beautiful profile. To the disciplined ear this cartridge produces the sound of cartridges triple the price, easily. *****

Perfect upgrade for your p-mount cartridge.

I’ve never needed to buy a cartridge before, but recently I thrifted a Kenwood KD-54R turntable with a bent needle (see picture). After some research, I found that this was a “p-mount” cartridge and I needed to replace it. This AT one is definitely an upgrade and just what I needed. All you need to install is a decent small screwdriver, and it’s plug and play.

Nice cartridge for older turntables.

Nice sounding cartridge for vintage turntables. Works great on my 40 year old Technics turntable. Easy to install.

What I needed

I bought a secondhand Technics Quartz SL-Q350 that didn't have a needle. This one made a perfect replacement. I'm not an audiophile so I can't speak to the finer details, but to me it sounds great. Easy to replace, although I had to go to the hardware store for a screw since that was missing as well and this didn't come with one.

Excellent results

This AT p mount mm cartridge replaced my old Shure m92e . Mann, what a difference in performance. Give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ .

The shure mm is now in retirement.

The AT 85EP is mounted on a Pioneer PL-260 DD Turntable. It brought a life to the turntable.

What was that?

Does the job for a good price

I purchased this as a replacement cartridge for a Technics SL-5, which had a 30 + year old P-28 Cartridge. Installation took maybe 5 minutes and required a flathead screwdriver.

Soundwise, this is a solid replacement for the price. It's not "the greatest sound ever," but it's a step up from the 35 year old stock stylus I'd been using until now.

I'm happy with this stylus and can recommend it at this price.

Fit a Technics SL-DD22

I had bought a thrifted turntable that had a cartrage but no needle. I wound up searching a few forms and found this model would fit my turntable. Sure enough it fit perfectly and I was able to ensure everything was functioning before the return window closed. It has been my main turntable and needle since and plays very well especially for the price.

Incredible value, great sound

I bought a Technics SL-QD3 turntable made in 1985 for $20 at a yard sale. Someone tried to remove the Pickering cartridge without removing the screw, then superglued it back together. Obviously ruined, I was pleased to get this Audio-Technica cartridge (with needle) for $39, and the P-mount design allowed me to install it in less than a minute.

It really made a difference, the high frequencies are more evident now.

Easy to install and sound quality.

For the price, this cartridge can't be beat.

I have an older Technics turntable that was in need of a new cartridge.

Super easy to install and after I adjusted the tonearm it sounds wonderful. Could not be happier. If your tonearm has the small set screw that holds the cartridge in place, don't lose it. This cartridge does not come with one.

Great cartridge, all around performer.

Great cartridge, easy to install. They show screws but the kit does not come with screws.

Easy to calibrate, it's a P-Mount. I have it running on my 500 at 1.25g and it tracks pretty well. Sound is crisp and clear, bass is not boomy. Buy this says J.A..!!! And, HOT F'n Jorma..!!!!

I bought only the stylus for my existing cartridge and the sonic fidelity is just too satisfying!

I've always use Audio Technica cartridges and the last one was a 'Studio Reference 3003' that I bought 20 years ago from a local Circuit City. It was a very good sounding cartridge and unfortunately I had to replace it because one day I discovered the 'needle' has somehow bent to the side and broke off when I tried straightening it back. Searched for a replacement and realized it has been discontinued but the AT85EP came up as equivalent with good reviews. I actually bought just the ATN85EP stylus itself and not the whole cartridge since I will be using it in place of my old 3003 since both are elliptical-style (probably has nothing to do with the cartridge anyway) and the specs are somewhat similar except for: ATN85EP is 20/20K and the 3003 is 15-27K freq resp. Snapped right in the old 3003 and so far sounded great! Why not, saved about $10 and all worked out well. Eventually I'll go with a Grado Blue in the near future, so for about $34, you can't go wrong!

Update 03/10/2021:

Well, after a few weeks of enjoyment, I'm not so sure if I still want to buy the Grado anymore because the ATN85EP stylus sounded really REALLY good!

Clear sound

I love it!! The technic sl-b500 sounds so good with this new stylus . I change it from a Pickering that sound it nice, but I can’t believe the sound I’m getting now, so clear and crisp sounds like a clean as a CD but better. I would buy another just to have one around just in case . This stylus gives life to my old KTel And Ronco records . Thank you all for giving a very accurate description when rating this product.

Perfect for vintage Hitachi models and classic alternative listening

This fits vintage Hitachi turn tables (mine is HT-40S). I use my turntable a lot, and change the cartridge about once a year mostly because the channel separation gets worse with age. Very happy to find a replacement that sounds great and is not more expensive than the value of the turn table. I’m not audiophile but I’ve got a decent system and this needle sounds better than the Sure model I had been using for the past 10 years and is almost 1/3 the price. It seems Sure doesn’t make them anymore. The channel separation is excellent and the dynamics listening to Depeche Mode (Black Celebration) better than listening to a CD of the same album and the rhythm on synth pop alternative classics doesn’t sound muddy on my subwoofer. I’ll update after I use longer if I run into any problems.

Best Cartridge for a legendary turntables!

high quality sound for a good old working turntable. I have technics SL-BD20 and I replaced the cartridge with this one and it's solid. I amazed with the result with a vacuum tube phono preamp and tried listening it to my ath-m50x headphones and it's excellent. I recommend this to a friend who likes to listen to vinyl records.
