The first one had an issue where the right earphone started buzzing when I tested it playing music. So I returned it and ordered a new one. One that should work right out of the box.
However, the second one had a completely different pair of headphones inside it. It being a Pro version at a 250 OHM. Instead of the Pro X version at a 48 OHM
Why? No idea.

Nice!
I cannot recommend these enough. I play FPS games but also love to listen to music while I play. I found that these do good for both! I am no fps pro so I’m not looking for super in depth footsteps but I do find that these do the job! They are also super comfortable on the ears and seem to be fairly durable.

One Bad Apple
At this price point you wouldn’t expect problems..
Invested heavily into adapters and absolute best cords for multiple devices.. and received a lemon out the box… and or it’s just that bad..
Left Ear Driver rattles like a mid 1990s car system, without sound deadening..at ANY volume.
This is true:
1. …. on my iPad / iPhone via lightning / Type C adapter via Moon Drop Dawn Pro 2.
2. …. on my Alienware aurora R7 via 3.5mm jack.
3. …. on my high end Tomahawk build via MB 3.5mm jack.
4. …. on my Droid phone via 3.5mm jack
5. …. on my 2 different high end Onkyo receivers via 6.35mm jacks.
If I ignored the distortion on the L ear and judged the sound quality of the R ear …I would still be here for the poor review, as unless this entire headset is comprised .., it sounds terrible.
There’s absolutely no bass… I honestly thought the cord was half plugged in, that’s why I tested it across the platforms…
1990’s RadioShack wired in ear headphones for running , connected to a Walkman, playing cassette, on a 15mile run sounds like Aphrodites herself whispering in my ear ..compared to the sound quality of these headphones…
Customer Support.. I called, nobody is responding, in any department, with one option to call some guys cell phone…what?…why?
I’m not sure if people are leaving good reviews because they got a quality product, don’t know what good sound quality is, or they put down this much money on a placid product and just embarrassed.

These headphones are super comfortable and fits really nice also very stylish. When playing video games or listening to music is super clear and clean. The leather hasn't peeled at all and are super durable compared to other cheap headphones with leather headbands

Some things I love, some I don't...
Intro:
I need to remind myself that the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro X are just $230 headphones. They're not perfect, in fact I found them pretty bad out of the box. For that price, I shouldn't expect flagship quality. My number one complaint is the sound quality out of the box. Obviously this is a pretty considerable fault given that these are headphones, but with a little EQ work, they sound amazing.
Why Did I buy Them?
I bought the DT 770 Pro X because I wanted nice closed-back headphones that I could use at my desk without annoying other people. They're also easy to drive at only 48 ohms and they don't break the bank. I'm less concerned about someone walking away with these than I would be some of my other headphones.
Methodology:
At home I paired these with a Teac UD-505 doing DAC duty, feeding a Schiit Mjölnir pure Class A amp. At work I paired them with a Topping DX5 II. The Teac has no real tone controls and I don't have any active on my iPhone. The Topping has a ton of options from EQ settings to DSP room simulations, etc.
Sound Quality:
Out of the box these sound very hollow with a huge lack of mid-bass and mid-range. They have great sub-bass and it doesn't cloud the other frequencies. They also have amazing highs without being sibilant. The detail on these is absolutely shocking and sublime. They have more detail than even my flagship T1-V2, but the T1s can get a little sibilant. I know these are studio monitors, but that doesn't explain the huge lack of midrange. They aren't just flat, they are lacking in those frequencies. It's never harsh, but it doesn't sound natural. I don't know how you could mix anything with these and get an accurate representation.
The Fix:
If I listened to these with no tone controls, I probably would have returned them. Without EQ work, they just don't do it for me. I played around with the Topping DSP settings and the stock "Dynamic" setting really brings them to life. Suddenly the vocals have depth and soul. You still get all the astounding detail and good sub extension, but now the EQ fills in some of the frequency gaps in the midrange. With EQ work these are absolutely phenomenal cans. The detail will amaze you without ever being harsh.
Comfort/Intangibles
The detachable cord is nice. I wish there were an XLR balanced option, but that's not possible. Comfort is okay, but it won't win any awards. The velour pads get a little warm and they "wear heavy." They aren't heavy by themselves, but they just feel that way on your head. For instance, Meze Empyrean weigh considerably more than these, but they disappear like air on your head. Again, I remind myself that these are $230 cans, not $3k cans. I also noticed that they can be noisy sometimes. Turn your head a certain way and they squeak and groan. I didn't notice this all the time though. Sometimes they were silent. I guess it depends how I position them on my head. I fear they may get noisier as they get older.
Conclusion:
If you EQ these (and that's a big "if"), they are an astounding bargain for sound quality. They won't have the width and soundstage of open-back headphones, but they can easily compete with the absolute best closed cans out there. They have incredible detail without ever sounding harsh. They aren't the most comfortable, but for $230 you can't expect everything.

DT 770 Pro X Review – Bought for Japan, Stayed for Everything Else
I originally bought the DT 770 Pro X specifically for international travel. My daily drivers are Sennheiser HD 600s, so I generally don’t find myself reaching for closed-back headphones when open-backs are an option, especially when it comes to soundstage and imaging.
That made the DT 770 Pro X a genuine surprise.
I’ve owned Beyerdynamic products in the past and always found them a little too treble-forward for my tastes. Thankfully, that hasn’t been my experience here. In fact, I’ve been surprised by how often I reach for these headphones when sitting outside with my DAP, relaxing on the couch while someone else is watching TV, or simply wanting a little more isolation without sacrificing listening enjoyment.
No, the soundstage isn’t going to compete with a good open-back design. But it performs far better than I expected from a closed-back headphone. Nothing feels cramped or boxed in. The large drivers, deep ear pads, and thoughtful cup design create a presentation that feels spacious enough to forget you’re wearing a closed-back at times.
More importantly, the DT 770 Pro X avoids one of the biggest sins of many closed-back headphones: sounding congested. The bass is present and satisfying without turning everything into mud, and the overall presentation remains clean and enjoyable.
Comfort is another strong point. Even after 4–6 hour listening sessions, I’ve never found them excessively warm or fatiguing. The clamp force is a little firm out of the box, but mine loosened up naturally over time. Anyone familiar with breaking in a new pair of HD 600s will likely find the experience familiar.
As for the tuning, it’s clearly V-shaped, but it’s a mature V-shape. The bass has energy without overwhelming the mids, vocals remain clear and intelligible, and the treble stays lively without becoming piercing. It’s an easy sound signature to enjoy. You don’t need to sit there analyzing every detail of a recording; you can simply put them on and listen.
Power requirements are equally impressive. Even my 2005 iPod drives them comfortably, and they’ve performed well from every source I’ve connected them to. That flexibility makes them an especially valuable part of my collection. Whether I’m using a dedicated DAP, a phone, a laptop, or an old iPod, they simply work.
Build quality appears excellent as well. Replaceable cables, pads, and headband components suggest these were designed with longevity in mind rather than disposable ownership.
My one major complaint is the stock cable.
It’s the first thing I replaced.
The cable seems particularly prone to transmitting movement noise into the headphones. It’s not noticeable once music is playing, but during quieter moments I could hear the cable and connector shifting around. On top of that, it’s absurdly long for what is arguably Beyerdynamic’s most portable-friendly DT 770 variant. I needed a cable that could reach my DAP, not one capable of lassoing livestock.
Beyond that criticism, I’ve come away genuinely impressed.
What started as a “these will be good enough for a flight to Japan” purchase has become a regular part of my weekly headphone rotation. They fulfilled their original purpose perfectly, but the real surprise was discovering how often I wanted to keep using them after I got home.
That’s probably the highest compliment I can give them.

Pretty amazing with a DAP/DAC
Bought these for the missing punch on my Senn 560s and they did not disappoint. Feels like a lot more headphone, the quality also seems significantly better, though both are lacking in build quality for the price. Not sure you can do much better though, everything is getting a cheaper build it seems. Consider getting a shorter and longer cable, I find the included length to be somewhat unusable. Not enough to walk around and far too much for portable use. Using mainly with FIIO K7, and FIIO M21.

The Only Headphones You Will Ever Need
Best headphones I’ve ever had! I’ve been using the beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro X Studio Headphones for both field recordings and post-production work in Ableton, and they’ve been incredible. They feel sturdy and reliable, with great sound quality that really helps with detailed audio work. Definitely worth the money if you’re getting into the audio world.

Astonishingly good headphones
I am not an audiophile (though I love music, don't get me wrong! I'm just not precious about its delivery mechanism). But my golly, these headphones just might turn me into one. They are truly outstanding. I can really hear the depth of sound in a way that I was simply not appreciating before. They do an amazing job of noise cancellation, which makes them perfect for airplane travel or deep focus. They are also SO comfortable--after years and years of fussing with little ear buds that never fit my ears right, it's honestly refreshing to just place these soft, comfortable ear pads on and relax knowing that a wrong move isn't going to send one of them flying. They are adjustable and fit really well on all sizes of head (including my husband's really large head). The cost is not insignificant, but if you're looking to up your audio game, these headphones are the real deal.

Better than the most high-end headphones I have purchased.
These are probably the best headphones I’ve ever bought, and I have a pair of Sennheisers. As you can imagine, they were immediately snatched up by a teenage boys so that they can use them while gaming. They are not too tight and they don’t squeeze my head, you can hear absolutely everything, including background, noise and footsteps. They are 10 times lighter than AirPod maxes that I have. Like I said, these are probably the best headphones that I have ever owned. By far.

Fantastic for the Casual Listener
I have these headphones, and I also ordered a set of Beyerdynamic's premium 1770 on the same day.
This pair is beautifully made and comes in a quality box that you'll want to keep for storage. The earpads are very soft and won't cause discomfort to your ears over extended listening sessions.
Compared to AKG's K series, a close competitor, these sound better and offer slightly more isolation. The build quality is similar, but these win out for being a more comfortable design, although they will be less durable over the long run, as the AKG set can be bent and run over with a chair.
As far as sound goes, these are perfect for casual listening and non-critical applications. I've been using them in my 1990 ES series CD player and truly enjoy them. The bass is clear, the high end is airy, and the fit is very comfortable.
These cans are hyped in the bass and mids, as is common for consumer-level headphones in this price range. If you're planning on using them for critical applications, I suggest the Neumann NDH20 or the Beyer 1770s.
These do excel as non-critical editing headphones for video post, audio edits, or tracking, provided isolation isn't a concern.
At this price point, I would choose these over the AKG, Sennheiser, and Sony offerings for both comfort and value.

Just like the DT770 Pros, but with a detachable cable
Why did you pick this product vs others?:
These are really great headphones for anyone looking for a pair of closed-backs. I personally prefer open-back headphones, but regularly use a pair of DT770 Pros when I need sound isolation or can't have sound bleeding. These Pro Xs sound extremely similar, but have the super nice detachable cable. This removes a weak point, and makes them a lot easier to travel with (no more awkwardly wrapping the cable around the headband).
In terms of the sound, I would describe them as very energetic with slightly peaky highs and decent bass. Not quite V shaped, but definitely not flat either. The soundstage is also very good, which is what I think makes them a great alternative to open-backs when those aren't feasible. Detail is excellent, but this does lead to some of the harsh peaks in the treble area.
Overall a great pickup if you know you like the sound signature. The removeable cable is a huge quality of life improvement, and the headphones themselves are legendary for their sound. Really can't go wrong, especially considering their price relative to other audiophile units.

An objective upgrade over the 770 Studio!
I've had my DT770 Studio headphones for at least 5 years now and they have been a trusty workhorse staple in my studio. I love the sound profile and honestly wasn't expecting there to be much difference between my old cans and the new set, boy was I wrong!
I've included side-by-side shots of all of the major differences in the build quality that are immediately visible. Some of the improvements I noticed were the small updates around the various joints of the headset. Where the cans are mounted to the arms of the frame are improved and more accessible for repairs. There is also a visible print inside the ear cups that may just be for show, but it definitely looks cooler!
Let's put aside the fact that this cable is detachable (which is actually huge for me as I have toothy cats that love to turn my devices into wireless devices). The difference in the actual build of the two cables is tangible as well! The end of the new cable is more rigid with a smooth taper and neat BD stamp. Even the 1/4 to 1/8 in. adapter looks nicer!
All of this is great, but obviously the most important thing is the sound, right? You won't be disappointed there either! For starters, the Pro X are designed to work with a wider application of devices and as a result benefit from less ohms resistance than the lower ohm models. This makes them audibly louder when A/Bing the two headsets to test the tonal differences. On top of being louder, these phones seem to maintain clarity at high levels before breaking up with natural gain than the 770 Studios.
One final observation on the sound is that the EQ does seem to be treated and less flat than the 770 Studios but in a good way in my opinion. At the end of the day, mixing is all about reference and having that little bit more audible high end allows me to mix the fine highs better than headphones that are flat but can't create those frequencies. In that sense, I would rather have some tweaking to the EQ so that I can hear those highs without embellishing.
Overall, these headphones are a definite upgrade over the previous models. They aren't cheap, so if you just bought a pair of the 770 Studio 80 or 160 ohm you may not need to return them for these, but if you are using a pair that is on its last leg like I was, these will breathe new life in your listening experience!

Outstanding headphones!
These headphones are well built for durability, noting the metal arms on each side, adjustable by a little over an inch. Also, I found the headphones extremely comfortable with the velour-covered foam ear cushions, which are far better than vinyl.
The headphones have a 1/8" and a 1/4" jack via the attached adapter. The sound is incredible! I hear instruments that would have been lost in other headphones.
My only sound criticism is that the bass seemed too strong at times. I can't imagine any breaks in the receiver or the PC equalizer.
Beyerdynamic claims that all parts can be replaced, which is great when the ear cushions get overly dirty or wear out.

Nice Beyer Dynamic Headphones
I have been wanting Beyer Dynamic Headphones for many year. This is my first pair.
I really like the fit and comfort of these headphones.
Sonically, the headphones have a very tight soundstage with defined bass, good midrange and outstanding treble.
I am a song writer and spend many hours in the evening, after the day is over. I use headphones and Adam monitors for mixing. I do most of my mixing through headphones.
I am not an audiophile. I really love the sound and audio texture of the these headphones. The sound is outstanding with solid bass and crisp, clear highs. These headphones definitely have improved my mixing.
These have a nice frequency response, that is well-represented across other across different types of typical monitors.
They are medium weight. Even after several hours of recording and mixing - they are still comfortable.
The velvet / velour ear pads are an appreciated change from the typical faux leather coverings.
These headphones have a nice tight, yet, comfortable fit.
The detachable cable is appreciated in the event the cable fails.
These are excellent headphones that are equal or superior to my akg and sennheiser.
They are 5 star headphones that I highly recommend.

Very comfortable
These truly are super comfortable and adjust well. The sound quality is good and on par for the price (my husband is a bit of a snob with these so we do have a more expensive pair that he’s a little paranoid about)
Worked really well and I’d be comfortable purchasing these again. Bonus: not a huge eyesore when he leaves them out - in terms of some of the gaming and audio headphones these have a more classy look.
Baby seemed to like them too.

High quality closed back headphones
These are very high quality closed back headphones. I have a higher end set of open back phones from this company that I like a lot. These 770s are not in that stratosphere but they are extremely good. They come beautifully packaged and include a drawstring carrying/storage bag. The padding is very soft and comfortable, and the closed back blocks out external noise. The provided detachable straight cable connects via a mini XLR connection, and has a mini plug and 1/4 inch plug adaptor on the other end. The sound of these is crystal clear, with good stereo separation, and nice bass and mids. My one complaint is that the very high end is a bit harsh -- not too much to be bothersome with normal listening, but after long listening can lead to ear fatigue. That being said, I highly recommend these.
