BoT Talk Kids GPS Tracker with Voice Messaging

In the first week, the device updated every 3 minutes just like it promised. By week 3, it started slipping into sleep mode constantly. It notified me that my daughter arrived at school at 7:30, but when I checked again around 10am, the timestamp was still stuck at 7:30. That defeats the whole purpose of “updates every 3 minutes.” Also, buyer beware: you must purchase a monthly subscription plan for GPS or GPS & Talk. I can still return it, but I’m testing it a bit longer while I look into other GPS options for my young daughter.

Great GPS tracker for kids

I’ve been using this GPS tracker for about three weeks with my first-grade son, and so far it has been working very well.

What I really like is that the app not only shows me where my child is, but also how long he has stayed at a particular location. The tracking works a little differently from Apple’s Find My app. It doesn’t constantly show the location in real time. When my child is moving, the device updates his location about every 2 minutes. If he stays in the same place, such as his classroom, it doesn’t keep unnecessarily updating the location. I actually like this because I can easily see how long he has been at one location.

I’m using only the GPS service and not the talk/communication feature. With my usage, I only need to charge the device about once a week, which is very convenient.

Overall, I’m very happy with it, especially for keeping track of my young child. After using it for three weeks, I do have a few suggestions that could make the next generation even better:

A smaller device would be great so it could fit more comfortably in a young child’s pocket.

Occasionally, I get an error message in Japanese. It would be much better if all messages could be displayed in English.

The BoT app does not appear to be designed specifically for iPad. A dedicated iPad version with a larger map would make it much easier to see and track a child’s location.

Please add a Get Directions option for the child’s current location, similar to Apple’s Find My app. It would be very useful to tap the location and immediately get driving or walking directions.

For parents who mainly want to know where their child is, when they move to another location, and how long they have been somewhere, this device does the job very well. The once-a-week charging is also a big plus for me. I’m happy with my purchase and hope the developers continue improving the device and app.

Happy with it so far

I purchased directly from the site. I’ve had it for about two weeks now. I did have a few issues where the GPS wasn’t working or the chat wasn’t loading, but every time I reached out to customer service, they were very helpful.

I was also able to add my husband as a guardian, so he can track the kids too and be part of our chat.

It isn’t perfect, but I won’t be returning it. I’m happy with it right now and plan to give it another week to see how everything continues to work.

I really love that it’s screen-free. I’m able to see where the kids are, but keep in mind that if your child is staying in one place, the location may not refresh until they start moving again.

My kids are still getting used to using the chat feature, but that’s actually one of the biggest bonuses for me—being able to send audio messages back and forth without giving them a phone.

Overall, I’m happy with the GPS so far. I don’t want them to have a watch, and I’m definitely not ready to get them phones, so this has been a good option for us.

THE LOW RATING HERE IS CRAZY - THIS THING IS AWESOME!

I almost didn’t buy this because of all the negative reviews, and I almost never leave reviews - but I feel like other parents should know that this gadget is unbelievable and a must have. Super simple super clean, easy to use, easy for your kids to use, and most importantly: no screens! So many of the negative reviews are people complaining that they can’t use a debit card. That really has nothing to do with how good this gadget is- intuitive clean simple. It’s true, It’s not a walkie-talkie. It’s a voice message delivering device and tracker for your kids. I want to put off giving my kids a phone for as long as possible- this gadget probably bought me a couple more years. Plug and play out of the box. Ignore the numbskulls in the comments

Confidence While Kids Play Outside

My daughter uses the Bot Talk GPS tracker when she’s playing in the yard. It’s easy to use, comfortable for her to wear, and very reassuring for me as a parent. I recommend it.

Not recommend this product, amateur, not reliable, 7 minutes delay for location updating

This product doesn't support the purpose well.

1. Even in it's performance mode (the feature says updating location frequently at about every 1.5 minutes), in last one hour, it already happened for at least 5 times that it hasn't update the location for more than 4 minutes. Cannot imagine what if an emergency happens and I cannot get my kid's location in time.

See my uploaded screenshot, it was 8:18am, and the last updated location time was 8:11am, 7 minutes late!!!

2. The voice message sometimes takes up to 2 minutes to notify there's a new message. I know the product says it's not real time message, but it's too un-realtime.

3. The mobile phone app is amateur, it even doesn't provide a button to show the latest/current location.

Overall: I don't recommend this product, amateur, too un-realtime, not reliable.

We don’t have credit cards and the app will not process a debit card. The device is cool and I liked the screen free feature, but this was a very big let down.

Just what I needed

Using BoT has been amazing! All I needed for my 9-year-old is something that can track where she is, and just in case we need to send a message to each other, there is a way.

I don't want to give her an Apple Watch nor an iPhone yet just because I want to know where she is and I want to reach her occasionally when I am running late for pickup.

Being able to send voice messages to each other when we need to has been GREAT! I sometimes do wish that we could send text messages to each other but I know that makes things a bit complicated... The device will be much bulkier. I do like how compact it is, and it just hangs on a kid's backpack.

My niece who is 12 uses it too and she loves it. Her mom & dad love it even more.

It totally helps us hold off giving our kids smartphones!! Love it.

Bulky to carry, requires subscription, no real time 2-way communication

This device requires an app download and a monthly subscription. The app is poorly designed and the website with additional information is all in Japanese.

The cover is not attached very well and seems cheaply made. It requires a USB-C to charge and does not come with a cable. It has to be charged for 4 hours before use.

This is not a tracker that you can place in your kid's backpack to know where they are. It's rather bulky. This is meant to be a cell phone replacement, which is way more than we needed.

The talk feature allows you to record a 40 second message. It does not allow two-way communication. It's like a pager with audio message.

The monthly fee is $5/month for GPS only or $7/month for GPS and talk. You have to pick a plan in order to use the device. They want a lot of your personal information before you can even find out how much it will cost. To remove your account, you must send an email revoking your consent.

Built with the utmost goal of safety ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This small device i am so thankful to have came across! This allows me to have the benefits of a cell phone and gps without all the unnecessary and not so safe applications and additional devices. This handheld sized device is simple in design, has a built in slot for linking a wristlet, lanyard, or keychain loop, professional grade materials and functionality, high quality in sound and LED lighting, accurate tracking, the machine itself is very budget friendly given all the great benefits in one, but this does require a monthly subscription to keep it active for communicative use. This would make an excellent gift, great for families, and a nice alternative over a cellphone. I HIGHLY recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nice GPS tracker for kids, reliable, real time tracking with 2 way audio!

I recently got this compact GPS tracker for my son's field trip, and it's been a great choice. It offers real time tracking and 2 way talk, giving me peace of mind while he's away. The device also provides timely alerts, which are incredibly useful. Designed in Japan, it feels reliable and efficient, though it requires a monthly subscription. Overall, it's a worthwhile investment for keeping track of my child's location.

Beware cancellation policy!

Product itself works well, but talk about a commitment; you can cancel your service at anytime but you cannot reactivate. Maybe that works for you but not for me—I want the flexibility, especially when I paid for the product! What right does the company have to disable my device and make me buy a new one if I change my mind. No thanks, I’m going to look for something else.

BoT Talk is exactly what my family needed!

BoT Talk has been a huge asset in our family! With two children starting to gain and explore more independence even in the school setting with clubs, summer camps, and sports, having BoT Talk has aided us with staying in contact without worry and distraction. Being a part of the trial team, we have witnessed the improvements and benefits of this device for enough time to know we will continue to use the BoT service for as long as necessary. The ease of the device itself and app accessibility has been our biggest draw and look forward to any updates they make to further streamline the experience for both guardians and children.

Great Smartphone Alternative for Kids!

I bought this for my 8-year-old niece because my brother (her dad) was looking for a smartphone alternative. We considered many options and thought this device would meet their needs, like providing GPS and quick communication. So far, my brother and his wife say it's working well, and it's been a great solution for staying connected without being too much for kids. I’d recommend it to parents who want to stay connected with their kids but aren’t ready to give them a smartphone, or if the school doesn't allow smartphones.

Distraction Free communication

My 11 yr old has been using the Bot and it has been a sense of relief knowing we can reach her through voice messaging and see where she is with the GPS. We have been able to communicate for school pick up delays or changes or when she was not feeling well at school. She has multiple food allergies so this has worked well for our family as she gains a bit more freedom in middle school. Voice messaging is clear and the GPS works well! We love that it has no screen or other distractions on the device as well.
