Great microphone for a great price
A fantastic cheap microphone with 3.5mm! Don’t let the price fool you, even though it’s cheap it’s a heavy hitter. The sound quality is amazing, connects immediately and compatible with anything with a 3.5mm.

Having owned a few mini shotgun mics in the past, I've become a stickler for performance and features, and this BY-MM1 AI on-camera shotgun microphone is pretty spectacular!
While it's a touch heavier than my usual go-to unit, the features and out-of-the-box connectivity have put it in a leading role. Having both USB-C, as well as a 3.5mm input, means less worry about dongles or adapters, and it's really a universal mic, pairing to everything I plugged it into with zero drama.
The shock mount is nice, and probably even nicer than my comparison model, with no discernible squeaks, rattles, or other noises, and it fits VERY snug to the mic body. The included deadcat works well, but is a bit finicky to install, as it's very tight.
The sound is impressive, to say the least!
It's a nice, sensitive mic, and I never felt overly so. It has a great range, and captured far more highs and lows than I would have expected, and did so clearly. Even when mounted to an old camcorder (mini DV), it ignored the hum of the tape drive, and captured voices very well.
It works great in high noise environments, too... At a busy convention, it performed beautifully, capturing the intended voice and never sounding strained or muddy. This mic really punches well above its price point!
I am a bit of a control freak, and tend to enjoy mixing my own sound, but the included app has some great value, allowing for some fine-tuning, and the presets are handy, as well, and get you rolling in the right direction with ease; a true time-saver!
A seriously well-built, ready-to-use mic with some awesome sound-capturing ability. An absolute budget-friendly bit of kit that is perfect for those just starting out, as well as anyone looking to add a great shotgun mic to their set-up.

Fun little shotgun mike for the camera. Fits on the shoe plate and works ok. Not the highest grade, but good for sure. Plugs into the camera for power.

I’ve been using the mic for a while now, and wow it really changed how my videos and little audio projects come out. I wasn’t trying to get super fancy or anything, just wanted something that would make my voice sound clearer and cut out all the random noises around me, and this mic did that way better than I thought it would. The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to set up. I plugged it into my camera, then tried it on my phone with the USB C cable, and both worked right away. No weird menus or settings to dig through. I just hit record and the audio already sounded cleaner than what I was getting before. The supercardioid pickup pattern really does its job cause it focuses on what’s right in front of it and kinda ignores the rest. The AI noise cancellation is the part that surprised me the most. I recorded outside near the street and usually you can hear cars, wind, people talking, all that stuff. But with this mic, most of that background noise got pushed way down. My voice stayed clear even when a truck passed by. I even tested it in my kitchen with the fridge humming and it still cleaned it up pretty good. The app control is actually super useful too. I didn’t think I’d use it much but being able to change EQ presets and adjust the gain without touching the mic was really handy. The presets sound different enough that you can pick what fits your voice. I used the “speech” one for a vlog and the “natural” one for some guitar stuff I was messing with, and both sounded great. Battery life is crazy long. I charged it once and used it for a whole weekend of recording little clips here and there, and it still wasn’t dead. The thirty hour battery claim doesn’t feel exaggerated at all. I didn’t have to worry about it shutting off in the middle of a take. The build feels solid too. Not heavy, but not cheap feeling either. I tossed it in my backpack a couple times and it didn’t get scratched or bent. The shock mount works well cause I didn’t hear any weird bumps or handling noise when I moved the camera around. I also like that it works with pretty much everything. I used it on my DSLR, then on my phone, then on my laptop for a quick voiceover. The dual ports make it super flexible. No adapters, no drama. After using it for vlogs, outdoor clips, and even a small interview I did for a friend, I can say it made a huge diff in how clean and professional the audio sounds. My voice comes through clear, the background noise stays low, and the whole setup feels easy to use.

This on camera shotgun mic from Boya is easy to set up and has really powerful microphones. Right out of the box, with the gain set at neutral, it came in hot in my indoor studio. The pick up was great but I was getting a lot of dead air and hiss until I changed the settings. The on mic controls are helpful to lower or raise the gain, but you'll probably want to download the app to dial in your audio quality with better control.
The shock mount snaps on and fits really tight. I was a little worried I'd break it snapping in the mic but it was fine. It is light weight and would fit into a compact rig well. I like that it has USB-C to connect to a phone or tablet as well. Its a decent price for a pretty good microphone.

The BOYA BY‑MM1 AI On‑Camera Shotgun Mic exceeded my expectations for the price. The built-in AI noise cancellation really helps when filming in common indoor or outdoor settings and background noise gets noticeably reduced so dialogue comes through cleaner.
What I liked:
• The super-cardioid pickup pattern focuses well on voices in front of the camera, reducing ambient noise for clearer speech.
• Dual outputs (USB-C and 3.5 mm) gave me flexibility so I could plug straight into my DSLR or smartphone.
• Battery life is great, up to 30 hours per charge, so it’s dependable for long recording sessions.
• Setup is simple: attach to camera, plug in, and start recording with no complex configuration needed.
• Not only is this microphone functional, it’s also portable and durable.
What to know:
• In loud environments or with distant subjects it still picks up background noise; the mic does best when fairly close to the subject speaking.
• There is an App you can download that will let you change the microphone’s internal settings. Like EQ and one that is a must, is a feature that will let the mic power on or off automatically when it detects the camera power on or off. This is a great feature to conserve power if you forget to power it off.
Bottom line:
For vloggers, YouTubers, or anyone needing a quick-setup mic upgrade, the BY-MM1 AI offers excellent value. It won’t replace premium studio-grade gear, but for everyday content creation and casual filming, it’s a smart, budget-friendly choice that noticeably improves audio over built-in mics.

The microphone quality on this is solid for the price. The core audio is clean and clear, and the large capsule picks up voices well. The three gain levels help a lot since different cameras handle audio differently. I can fine tune the input so I’m not fixing levels later, which saves time in post.
The dead cat is impressive. It’s not a thin cover. It has real foam inside and cuts wind noise better than expected. Without any processing, the noise level stays controlled and usable outdoors.
Where this mic falls short is the AI noise cancellation. It reduces background noise, but the voice quality gets thin and processed. You can hear the filter working, so I leave that feature off.
Functionality is good overall. Dual outputs make it flexible for camera and phone setups. The internal battery is a nice touch and keeps the rig clean when I pair it with the DJI system. The size makes it portable and easy to keep in a small case, and the build feels durable enough for daily use.
My only hardware complaint is the cold shoe mount. With one mounting point, it has more wiggle than I like. The app wasn’t useful for me, so I uninstalled it after testing.
Good mic with strong features, clean audio, and great wind protection. A few design choices hold it back from being perfect, but it’s still a solid pickup.

Great shotgun, needs Noise Canceling improvement.
As a fulltime filmmaker and audio engineer, I get to test a lot of gear, but this powered shotgun microphone immediately stood out as a must-have, especially for creators on the go. I'm always looking for that sweet spot of pro-level audio without needing a massive, complicated setup, and this mic hits the nail on the head. Whether I was doing quick interviews, filming outdoors in a noisy city environment, or just using it for crystal-clear work calls, it delivered. The simple setup on both my camera's hot shoe and my phone via USB-C was a huge relief—it’s truly plug-and-play for all your devices.
Pros: The Good Stuff
Dual-Device Versatility: The compatibility is fantastic. It works seamlessly with mirrorless cameras using the 3.5mm TRS cable and with phones/devices using USB-C. Filmmakers will love the unique ability to record audio to both a camera and a phone simultaneously for a safety backup.
Excellent Battery Life: Seriously great battery endurance. Users reported being able to film full-day shoots—like a wedding—without needing a recharge, and the option for passthrough charging with a power bank means you can basically roll forever.
Crisp, Clear Audio Quality: Even without the noise cancellation on, the audio is clean, crisp, and high-quality (up to 48 kHz / 24-bit). The supercardioid pickup pattern does an excellent job of focusing on the sound right in front of the mic, isolating the subject's voice.
App Control for Pro Tweaks: The companion app, while not mandatory for basic use, lets you fine-tune the sound with EQ presets, gain adjustments, and other controls, giving you professional-level flexibility without hours of post-production.
Cons: Room for Improvement
App Dependency for Full Control: While the app is powerful, you need to use it to access the full range of features like EQ and gain adjustments. This can be a bit of a learning curve and might feel like an extra step if you prefer a completely physical, analog workflow.
Can’t connect to the app via Bluetooth: You have to use a USB cable to connect which makes it less ideal.
Less Premium Build Feel: The microphone is perfectly functional and portable, but the materials don't quite match the premium feel of some higher-end competitors. It feels durable enough, but not necessarily "luxury."
Directional Sensitivity: The tight, focused pickup (which is great for noise isolation) means it can sometimes miss softer sounds or voices coming from slightly off-axis if you're not careful about placement.
Noise Cancellation: As you can see and hear on the video, at 3 ft away from the mic the noise cancelation miffs the voice SUBSTANTIALLY. So this option is only viable if you are talking directly into the microphone at less than 5 inches. While the sound quality of the NC is not bad, I still prefer to deal with noise in post. If you record with the NC on there is no way to undo this. So as a professional I rather record as is, and deal with audio in post.
Overall / Summary
This shotgun microphone is a powerhouse in a compact, travel-friendly design. It delivers audio clarity that I would typically expect from pricier mics. The all-in-one compatibility (camera, phone, computer), makes it an incredible value for content creators, vloggers. The advanced features might be overkill for a total hobbyist, but for anyone who is serious about drastically improving their video audio—especially without relying on finicky lavalier mics—this is a good choice.
Final Recommendation: Definite Buy

Good quality mic with a lot of features! I use this for MS Teams meetings at work - I plug it into the headset port on my docking station using a mic/speaker port adapter. I usually keep it plugged into power when using it. I played around with the onboard noise-cancellation - it almost works as well as the Teams AI noise cancellation! My test involved clapping near the mic as I was talking into the "echo" testing call. With the Teams AI, I couldn't hear the clapping at all, and with the mic's onboard noise cancellation, I could barely hear the clapping. Incredible for such a small package! I haven't had any issues with people hearing me on calls, so I plan to continue usage as my daily-driver mic indefinitely.

This mic sounds clear and stays focused on the subject. The app presets help tune the sound without guesswork. Long battery life for full day shoots.
What stood out
• AI noise reduction that works in busy spaces.
• EQ presets inside the app.
• Strong battery that lasts hours.
• Dual output options for phones and cameras.
I used this outdoors near traffic. The voice stayed clear and the AI cleaned up most of the background noise.
tl:dr
A versatile on camera mic with clear sound and smart controls.

I was impressed with how great the quality on this mic is. It has excellent gain options, great noise cancellation for a shotgun mic, and great features. That said, I wish this mic supported bluetooth/ wireless and I wish it came with a travel bag like many of Boya's other offerings.
Here's what I noticed
✅ Excellent gain. You have three settings that fit most situations and are easy to select (see video)
✅ Excellent noise cancellation for a shotgun mic.
✅ Mic holder does great job of eliminating equipment noise.
✅ Wind filter works great to eliminate gusts and other outside wind noise.
I'm really appreciating this microphone so far but if there are any changes in my opinion or its quality, I'll be sure to report back in. 🤞 I hope you found my notes, pictures and video useful. Be well! ❤️🔥

I absolutely love this shotgun mic and have used it constantly since I received it for UGC work. It is so easy to use and I much prefer this to lavaliere style mics due to the simplicity of the setup. It worked with no hassles by plugging straight into my iPhone. Please note that the cord that came with it seems to be the best way to connect it to your phone. I attempted using a different cord and it didn't work for me for some reason. The best feature is the noise cancellation. You have to hit the power button twice so that the indicator light turns green. Then it will cancel out EVERYTHING. Fans, dogs breathing nearby, refrigerators, clocks ticking, ALL OF IT. I haven't tested it in a noisy environment, but it worked like a charm to cancel all of the little noises in my house. (Even my son's lullaby music nearby.) You can also adjust the strength of the microphone by hitting the other button on the mic. It's seriously so easy and so good to have! The only issue (for me) is figuring out the best way to attach it to my phone. I've been using a secondary tripod, but I'm sure there is a better way with a different mount.

If you love recording video and are using your phone or a digital camera of some sort, you’ll notice that the sound isn’t always great and sometimes gets washed out by wind and external disturbances. That’s where this Boya shotgun Mic comes in to save your sound and it has the connections to connect to your phone (via USB-C) or your camera via the 3.5mm TRS cable. It picks up the sound and in particular voices directly in front of the mic and at a good distance also. The cold shoe mount works great on a mirrorless or DSLR camera and dampens out any vibrations that might happen from the camera. Setup is easy and if you connect to your phone via the USB-C cable the Boya Central application allows you to remotely control the functions easily and fine tune noise cancellation.
At the price point, this is a great shotgun mic. It states AI powered but I’d take that with a grain of salt (you’re not hooked up to the cloud when you’re recording so not so much AI involved, more so when hooked up to your phone via the app and fine tuning the mic). Battery life is excellent and easily charged. You can with the button on the mic change the noise cancellation from -10 dB, 0 dB and up to +20 dB (three levels). Overall, a good buy in my opinion.
