Came early this morning which was great because I’m buried in paper documents for a client with a tight deadline.
We have probably scanned about 1,000 documents so far in about 30 mins, with the majority of time being the human component of loading and unloading the scanner.
Wish I would have bought this years ago.

DO NOT BUY - Living Nightmare.
DO NOT BUY! It will work for a little while, and then after you are past return window, it will only give "Internal Error" and even updating software doesn't work. Spent HOURS trying to get it to work, complete garbage. DO NOT BUY. It also left a permanent mounted drive on my Mac that there is no way to unmount, not reboot, not anything even AI to trouble shoot, I will have the "update" drive mounted for the rest of life. So stupid.
It was nice while it worked... but that was only for a few days.

Home Office Scanner with built in software - Easy to use
The Canon imageFORMULA R30 is optimal for home users who want a professional style page scanner at an affordable price point. This scanner does the job well at a leisurely pace. Its killer feature is that when you press the scan button, it launches a window on the computer with built-in software so that you don't need to download and install separate software like most scanners. The software will then reside in the tray area in Windows PCs so that you can easily scan again.
The software is also made for ease of use. There are three document type presets, two output options and the ability to define your own presets for both types. The presets can be very simple or rather sophisticated with options for brightness, contrast, skewing, page misfeed detection, size, and many others. Its rather powerful utility hidden behind a simple interface.
This 'easy to use' theme extends to the next phase of scanning. After the scanner has ingested the paper, the editor appears, allowing at the least saving the file the desktop or your defined output location. However if you click on the tiny arrow in the top right, more options appear that allow you to image correct the scans, deskew, rotate, resize and more options. Its again deceptively simple with a powerful editor hidden in plain sight.
In other words, its really worth reading the manual to understand the potential uses of the software. Then again, you can stick to the basics that are offered out of the box and do very well.
The scanner has two consumable rollers that you can easily remove, clean or replace. The page feed roller is a giant wheel like arrangement that looks like two tractor tires. Its very impressive. There is a page separator pad in the lid that also has an interesting function and can also be replaced. There are four non-replaceable rollers that should not wear. The manual recommends cleaning the rollers with lint-free cloth and water periodically.
The scanner features extending supports for both input and output trays. The input supports pull up and out of the back of the scanner to hold a sheaf of papers. The output tray extends out of the bottom and yet another support flips out of that one. So while the scanner is not overly large at 11" X 7" X 10", the input tray extends up for a total height of 16", and the output tray extends out for a total depth of 18". You will need to reserve space in front of this unit, and make certain that there is some reserved space above it.
Power users may be a bit frustrated at the pace of the scanner. It scans about a page in 3 seconds, or two pages in 7 seconds. Since it has a large feeder capable of holding up to 50 pages, it means waiting a bit longer than a top flight scanner. The large blue button on the scanner appears to only start the app on the computer, not actually initiate a scan which is unlike other scanners.
Otherwise there is much to like about this scanner. It provides reliable, robust scanning functionality with easy to use yet powerful software that does not require installation.
All in all, this is a handy home office scanner that should wrangle reams of paper with ease at a low price point.

High-quality customizable duplex scans
This little document scanner does a great job for things that don't absolutely require a flatbed scanner (i.e. something extremely delicate or not flat). The software is simple and pretty intuitive, and the quality is great. I found it easy to configure a high-quality 300dpi preset that would drop output PDFs directly into my private Nextcloud folder. The OCR accuracy on the first few test pages that I checked was great--certainly good enough for text searches for relevant information.
The adjustments possible in software after scanning each page make it easy to correct things like color, page angle, page borders, etc. You can even tweak the output filename if you don't want to use the (also customizable!) template name that was automatically generated.
Though I still give it 5 stars, there are two weird things and one small disappointment that I encountered while setting this up and using it the first time:
WEIRD THING #1: The software is a temp-install-and-run-on-demand thing called OnTouch Lite, which you access via a virtual removable drive when you turn on the scanner. It shows up with a new drive letter in Windows ("E:" on my machine), and you have to run ONTOUCHL.EXE if it doesn't auto-start. This strikes me as a strange approach, but I guess it works. It's just not like basically every other device I've used, where you install the software and then use it. It makes things a little easier in one sense, but the unexpected procedure threw me off.
WEIRD THING #2: Related to #1, maybe because it's harder to update software that is literally baked into the machine, the OnTouch Lite application doesn't play nice with my 4K high-DPI monitor. It shows up with improper scaling, so everything is super tiny. This is easily corrected by changing the compatibility settings of the ONTOUCHL.EXE to override normal settings and let the system manage scaling. Not an issue if you don't have a 4K monitor.
SMALL DISAPPOINTMENT: As far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to be possible to use this scanner with any other software besides OnTouch Lite. It doesn't appear to register with any standard TWAIN/WSD interfaces. Maybe I'm wrong about this, and OnTouch works so it doesn't really matter, but keep that in mind if you had any intention of using this with different software.
Overall, it's a great, fast, high-quality, compact, and convenient double-sided document scanner. Great to have if you need to scan a bunch of documents!

Documents, photos and even polaroids
I’m one that has been scanning my paper bills to keep a digital copy that can be searched (file name only) for long time. This product has the ability to save to a PDF which means the file content is now searchable. This not new technology, but ones I have used in the past were slow and didn’t always get all of the text correctly. I’ve ran this through bills, folded, wrinkled, fading and all converted 100% of the time with missing a single word. It scans BOTH sides too!
Photos can be scanned too! Tried several new/old photos and looked great. Even tried a couple polaroids that looked better than the original. The size does not seem to matter, little business cards, scanned with ease.
The instructions say that one Windows the software will pop up a screen. On Windows 10 there was no pop up, went to the drive labeled “ONTOUCHLITE” and double clicked on ONTOUCH.exe to get the software to launch. The AUTO option for select document worked great at detecting black and white or color. The output is very customizable, supporting pdf, jpg, tiff, png, pots and bmp. I found that creating a new document and setting the DPI to 600 produced the highest quality images. But, it does take longer to scan than the default 200dpi. The output file is in date/time format and that is customizable as well. For me I just created new output folder for each bill by company name and put it the scanned output directly in the folder to match. The date/time format worked great doing it that way and then I never need to manually name a file.
Now I am able to search for a bill quickly and completely organized!
The document upper tray can hold about 50 sheets and the lower tray has an angle for which as paper comes out it will not end up on the floor. We have all seen that when printing large numbers of sheet as they eventually get bound up and tossed on the floor.
Had zero paper jams and was very fast compared to the old way I was doing it. I’d say it’s a 1000% process improvement for me.
Excellent quality, speed, functionality and feature set that no one should be without.

Compact duplex scanner, no software to install, easy to move around - does need a USB cable though
I am very pleased with this scanner and note, I also own a 'Fujitsu ScanSnap iX1600 Wireless Scanner' that is very similar but has more advanced features.
The Canon is extremely easy to set up - one of the reasons why is that it uses a direct USB connection to your computer. After connecting the scanner and turning it on, your computer should recognize that 'something' connected and a window should open showing two files -Manual & ONTOUCHL.exe. (This was on a new laptop running Win10)
Double-click on ONTOUCHL.exe to start the software, a loading screen will open and then in a very short time you should be in the 'CaptureOnTouch Lite' screen.
Just follow the sequence - first select what you're scanning (Black & White, Color or Auto) and you can adjust the settings by clicking the pencil icon in the lower right corner of each option. You can change things like increasing the dpi from the standard 200 up to 600, select one side or two, etc.
Next, you just select your destination. There are two default - Picture Folder or Desktop along with the option to add your own destination.
Make sure the files you want scanned, click the scan button, and you're ready to go. This scanner is really fast, up to 25 pages per minute, and it can hold up to 60 sheets of paper. I was impressed with the quality of the scans - they were just as good as my more expensive ScanSnap scanner.
Although this scanner does not have Wi-Fi or the ability to work on a network, since it does not require software installation, it would be very easy to move around and use with another computer.
I think at this price point, and coming from a name brand like Canon, you're getting a lot of value for the money. I would highly recommend this scanner

Get scanning within 45 seconds, quietly, clean files, and even handles large documents
The Canon ImageFORMULA R30 scanner is a great option for anyone looking for a fast, easy-to-use, and affordable scanner. It's perfect for small businesses and home offices, and it can handle a variety of scanning tasks, from scanning documents to scanning photos.
The R30 is incredibly easy to set up. Simply plug the little power brick, connect the included USB cable to your computer, and follow the on-screen instructions. Within minutes, you'll be able to start scanning your documents. I plugged it into my (2019) MacBook and was scanning documents within 45 seconds. Most of that time was removing the pads and tape that was included for protection during shipping.
Compliments to Canon for their packaging. It is very easy to unpack the scanner and remove it from the box. Furthermore, the packing is cardboard rather than some sort of foam or thin-film plastic pillows, therefore much easier to recycle.
The R30 also offers a variety of scanning features that make it easy to use. You can scan documents in color or black and white, and you can choose to scan them at different resolutions. The R30 also has a built-in OCR (optical character recognition) function, which allows you to scan documents and then convert them to text.
The R30 creates clear, high-quality scans that are perfect for storing or sharing online. You can save your scans as PDF files, or you can print them out.
The R30 is a quiet scanner, so you won't have to worry about it disturbing your work or your pets.
The R30 is a great timesaver in the office or home. It can scan documents quickly and easily, and it helps you to stay organized. It automatically selects portrait or landscape, so you do not need to spend time rotating scans. I ran a 70 page document through it, and it created a large PDF - quietly, efficiently, and without fuss. I can now scan my monthly statements with minimal effort and retain files going back years. (Remember that for important computer files, backup is your friend.)
Overall, the Canon ImageFORMULA R30 scanner is a great option for anyone looking for a fast, easy-to-use, and affordable scanner. It's perfect for small businesses and home offices, and it can handle a variety of scanning tasks. If you're looking for a scanner that will help you to stay organized and productive, the R30 is a great option.
Here are some of the pros and cons of the Canon ImageFORMULA R30 scanner:
Pros:
* Easy to install and use
* Creates clear digital scans in PDF
* Quiet
* Huge timesaver in the office
* Handles documents easily into the 35-40 page range (70-80 pages if double-sided)
Cons:
* Not as fast as some other scanners on the market, but you can choose the Canon R40 or R50 if you need the speed.
In summary, a real timesaver in the home or small office that will produce high-quality, clear PDF files. The automatic feed is great but the auto-rotate is spectacular.

Super Easy hook-up plug-n-play and even easier to use.
I ordered this for my office to more efficiently scan documents since I work with a lot of different type of documents. I was using an Epson Workforce, which still works well, but this Canon scanner works even easier, more efficient and faster.
After I connected this to my computer, my computer recognized it immediately. After following the initial instructions and the getting started guide, the built-in software was easy to use and navigate. What's very efficient about this scanner is it will duplex scan both sides of a page in a single pass. So if you have several documents to scan, it will whip out the scan job in no time. I was able to scan a 50-page double-sided document in under 3 minutes. On my Epson, that would have taken at least 20 minutes. This scanned every side of each page very quickly without sacrificing the quality of each document image.
Another feature I like about this scanner is the document slider that I can adjust depending on the type of document I'm scanning. I scan a mix of documents from regular 8.5 X 11 to store receipt size. The scanner gets the job done and a double thumbs up!
Overall, I'm very very impressed with this scanner. The only improvement I would make is to add more connectivity options rather, make basic USB connection and Wi-Fi standard instead of releasing different models with different types of connections. Otherwise, this is a fantastic scanner and at a very good price point for everything that it does.

Compact and capable plug and play scanner!
This review is for the Canon imageFORMULA R30 auto-feed document/photo scanner. This is one of easiest-to-use, plug-and-play peripherals I've ever seen. It literally has one control on the unit, the on/off button.
Once you connect the power supply, then the USB cable to your laptop/computer, the moment you turn it on the scanner's software opens up on the computer. The software provided is very simple to navigate, while being comprehensive. Before scanning you can select if you want simplex (single side scan) or duplex (double side scan), what kind of file you prefer, where it should be saved, as well as other options. When scanning photographs, on the upper right corner is an arrow to select edit options. This allows easy color and contrast adjustment, image alignment and crop, and rotate.
I scanned a stack of business cards in simplex, and now have a digital file of them on my computer. I've tried double-sided documents, and they scan beautifully, and perfectly square. This scanner makes it very fun and easy to scan old photographs, then upload them to digital frames. It also makes it simple to scan multi-page legal and tax documents quickly, which is very laborious and time consuming on a flatbed scanner.
It's a very compact unit in my opinion, that has a small footprint when the output tray is retracted. In fact for use on a desktop, I'm not even using the output tray. It scans quickly and quietly, and I haven't had a jam yet.
This Canon R30 scanner is one of those rare products that has really exceeded my expectations, and I couldn't be more pleased. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Very well thought out document scanner
This Canon imageFORMULA R30 Office Document Scanner, is a really handy tool for home or business. It allows the scanning of printed documents in batches as large as 60 pages. The batch can include documents or photos of different sizes all intermingled.
For home use, does your family have big paper photo albums from years ago? Place up to 60 photos at a time into the automatic document feeder, and tell the software where you want the scanned color photos to be stored. You can digitize many years worth of pictures very quickly.
You can scan years worth of your tax returns, along with all supporting documentation, in no time at all. Stop worrying about having to keep track of all the paper.
I just received this scanner a couple hours ago and already I'm planning on all the documents I want to digitize for easy retrieval.
