It's like an IR spotlight but hard to adjust

It reaches out a long way, but only in a narrow beam. It is the most difficult IR light to aim that I have ever tried to set up. You are working in the dark (on a ladder in my case). Two adjustments require a screw driver and the other is a big locking nut. The light does not simply swivel in all directions. It adjusts left and right and rotates with separate pivot points. It's almost impossible to point it correctly.

Works better than expected, am going to buy more from CMVision

This light was installed in less than ten minutes, power brick tucked into a weatherproof in-use box and am very impressed with the throw of the IR lights. The two pictures show a street corner that used to be completely invisible to my cameras other than headlights (which was useless). A single light now completely illuminates the corner/bend and even as you can see, reflects the decals on a patrol car running with it's lights off. Without the CMVision lighting up the corner, my cameras would never have caught the vehicle to register it was an activity.

For another location I was going to buy more expensive night-color cameras with dense LED floodlights synced to motion, however I am doing a 180 and going to use a couple of these lights on a rural acre and stick to IR for night time. Cost savings on foregoing the night-color feature is equal to a couple of these lights. The IR throw is better than LED floodlight throw for night time based on my field testing.

Water behind the lens.

It lasted great for 4 months and then water started getting in behind the lens and now it doesn't work.

Half of the LEDs burned out after a Year and a Half

I bought this to use with my raspberryPi no-infrared security camera. It was set up inside on a window-sill and pretty much sat there undisturbed until I noticed half of the LEDs (please see my photo) were not visibly red. This was shocking considering I have a smaller unit from the same company that is over 3 years old and only a couple of its LEDs are out. I've contacted them a second time in hopes that maybe I'll get a better offer, but highly doubt that will be the case considered the other similar reviews I read just before writing this one. The unit is plenty bright up to about 40 feet out, which was plenty for my needs. It does get pretty warm however, so that might be the culprit for why it didn't last. For 70 bucks, you can probably find something equivalent that will last longer than a year and a half.

Great for NIR treatments.

This is a powerhouse for NIR health use. I was using a friend’s. After lots of research and advice from natural health people, I’m using this for NIR Treatment.

(Read up about it. You only need to hold it to the affected area 1-3 minutes, 2-3x day)

A little unorthodox, but it works.

It's Daytime at Night for My Cameras

Wish I had 'before' pictures for comparison. Literally turned our backyard into daytime level lighting.

I bought my first one six months or so ago and just added two more by my two other outdoor cameras. Worth every penny and the cameras actually capture better video since there's better illumination.

Bit of advice that has nothing to do with the product, spiders love infrared. Do yourself a favor and spray a ton of spider repellant around your cameras so you don't end up seeing webs getting spun instead of what you want to see.

Fantastic light output

Absolutely excellent. Made a portable night vision spot light for coyotes. Wired it through I Chinese 12v Li and a long range remote then spray painted it all black. Works like a charm

It's like having an invisible floodlight in your yard. Great purchase!

Just got it in place tonight. I went outside when it was dark and plugged it into an extension cord so I could try a few different angles and spots on the house to find which position would work best to mount it. I found the higher I mounted it the further It cast the light. I used 3 drywall screws to attach it to the trim of the house and it's not going anywhere.

I live out in the middle of the desert with no street lights. The only light I have are the lights on my house that I have installed. My Nest doorbell doesn't seem to be able to cast enough infrared light to catch much detail at night. Especially if somebody walks by on the far side of the dirt road they look like a couple pixels when you pause the video. I wanted something more clear so I can have a better idea of who's out there, which is why I purchased this light. So far I've yet to have anybody walk by which is pretty rare at night where I live, however I tested it myself walking across the street/image and it did way better than before the IR light. I was extremely bright almost like I had a spotlight on me. The infrared light fixture itself is very dim to the naked eye. I have it mounted not too far from an exterior light so it's really difficult to notice unless you know what you're looking for. As of now my initial impression of this is very impressed. Five stars all the way. It's like having an invisible floodlight on the road that won't bug Neighbors or people driving by. Better than a floodlight in some ways. I intend to get another one for my backyard which is also pitch black and a very large area. I would recommend this product to anybody trying to get the most distance and clairity out of their night camera footage. I have only had it up for one day so I can't speak much about longevity but I will update my review if anything changes.

Works with Ring

Here is a quick demo with a Ring wired Stick-up cam (the old camera version with the small lights). You can see how the camera’s auto-exposure prevents the over powered IR light from washing out everything in such a small area with reflective white walls.

Great light for the price

I going to start off by giving this IR light 5 stars. I needed a IR light to help brighten up the area in front of me house at night. As you can see in the without and with pics it definitely makes a difference. Only time will tell how well this light holds up to the elements but for the price it's worth it.

lettuchi

My phone camera sees it as pink!!!

I am using this as a IR therapy device after taking the front glass off. It definitely will heat up your tissue!!! But protect your eyes! As you can see, the light photographs pink, even though it's invisible to the eye.

Exactly what was needed

This IR light was placed on the gable roof line along side the video camera head. So about a 15 foot elevation. The IR light goes out across the street and did not create a hot area at the center. It was a huge upgrade to the IR light that came with the Ring mount. The initial IR only illuminated about 30-40 feet and any further objects were hard to identify. This new unit spreads out across the entire field of view.

UPDATES. So the second image is where the IR is set up in a tree so that the back ground is viewable. You can see that the original IR light from the camera only goes about 45 ' leaving the distance in total darkness. The camera has a digital zoom...so the illuminated background can actually be viewed effectively with the zoom feature.

Good, when it works. But the company does not stand by their products so beware

Worked great at first, but within 6 months the IR LEDs began to fail bit by bit. The company would not support the product as it was outside of warranty, and kindly let me know that I could purchase new ones to fix the issue. Purchase at your own risk...

So far very good addition

After some adjustments it is providing great ir support to my night vision cameras

No go

Worked well at first then After about 4 months it started leaking and taking in water, then died.

No recourse.

Extremely bright. Awesome

This is SO powerful. Well worth it. I'm buying another one. Be VERY careful though. Just because you can't see it with the naked eye doesn't mean you can't really damage your eyes if you stare at it while its on. Just mount it above eye level.

I use this to illuminate my yard for my wildlife camera (updated)

Update 4/11/2020: I purchased my unit in November of 2017 but only used it for about a year. I pulled it out for a new project and noted that more than half of the LEDs don't work. I wrote to the vendor and they offered half off a new one after I return the defunct unit. Nah, not paying to ship for that. It's a good product when it works, but from my experience (and others apparently) this is NOT built to last. LEDs should last much longer than this. The unit is "on" all the time but the LEDs are triggered by darkness so they are only illuminated for about 8 hours a day.

Original review follows....

I've only just installed this so I can't speak about longevity but so far so good. I installed this for my wildlife cam which is at the end of our yard. I recorded a clip starting about 5 seconds before switching on the IR lamp. The difference is night and day. The cameras have their own IR LEDs but only illuminate about 20'. As you can see, this illuminator is much more powerful. All we need now are bears to spot. :)

My first review was rejected but with no clear reason given but I suspect it was because I mentioned the brand of camera I am using. I wasn't advertising the brand of camera, I was just telling folks what setup I have. I removed the brand so hopefully this goes through.

First of all they shipped the product with two useless standard power cords instead of the DC transformer required

First of all they shipped the product with two useless standard power cords instead of the DC transformer required.

After they failed to response to my request for the needed parts, I was forced to buy one from Microcenter.

Second the case leaked and the bottom filled with water, (even though it was mounted under an overhang) and within month it rusted out the light board and failed.

Pretty great IR light for the price

Pretty great IR light for the price. Works great with HIKVision cameras. Comes with AC power supply with DC transformer (very similar to a PC laptop power supply). Gives a nice flood pattern out to a pretty good distance (rather than a spot). We were getting some odd IR reflection spots from the stock HIKVision 4MP dome cameras and this light pretty much eliminated the issue. See photos for before and after comparison.

Lawful Interference

Water condenses inside the glass with photos - junk

The item appears to be very well build and study. I tested in inside my garage overnight before mounting outside. In the morning, condensation had formed on the INSIDE of the glass covering the LEDs. Clearly water inside electronics is a recipe for disaster so I'm returning it. Based on some of the negative reviews about how it is well built on the outside and junk on the inside, I'm not going to buy another.

NOT DESIGNED TO WORK OUTDOORS.

After being installed outdoors for 3 months, it worked for 2 months and then quit. No lights. Because of bad weather conditions it remained in place until today. I removed it, found water and rust inside the housing along with water crystals on the inside of the glass. Unable to remove glass in fear of breaking it, decided it is best to return, since it is obviously defective. This is my second surprise: "This item is no longer eligible for return." I spent $70 for a 2 month life. Look elsewhere for a better product and a supplier that will help you, the customer resolve the problem.

Very Bright IR Light!...Impressive!

This is a very very bright light for night vision cameras, that can use a 850nm IR illuminator/emitter.

I emailed my manufacturers Tech Support to find out if I needed a 850nm, or the 940nm emitter.

There reply said my cameras were designed to see IR between 820nm and 870nm, so the 850nm emitter would work perfectly for my needs, and they added that my cameras would not see the 940nm emitter, since thats outside of it's IR optical range.

As I said, this one is Very Bright, and I do really like the enclosure, being rated IP66, means it's dust tight/proof, and can take high pressure water jets, from all angles.

But don't mistake that for being water proof! If it was rated IP68, or IP69, that would be water proof.

The first digit indicates it's resistance to dust, the last digit is the indicator of it's water resistance.

You can find that info online in various places. Also under commercial code enclosures.

I only have 1 problem with this product, and it's not a big deal to me, so I didn't take any stars away from it's rating.

It's regarding the hardware & design of the hardware.

The enclosure is made of cast aluminum, and has a top notch finish applied to it.

But cast aluminum does NOT hold tight and thin threaded screw hardware.

With a very very minimum amount of torque, the screw that holds the fixture on the elbow joint, that has teeth on both halves, for adjustments, it immediately stripped. I'm talking about just a snugging up of the screw, not even considering tightening it yet, because I was checking the angle of the light.

The screw itself is made of extremely cheap and soft metal, and it was threaded very fine.

Now that with a cast aluminum enclosure, with a tapped hole, well, everything just went to hell, quickly and decisively!

Luckily I keep nuts and bolts of all sizes on hand (in large amounts...lol).

It was a very quick fix for me, I just got a hardened bolt (10/32), about a 1/4 inch longer than the original, and used a wax insert bolt to tighten it back together. All done.

Also, for the mounting plate..."Pre-Drill" the holes, before trying to just screw them in without a pre-drilled hole, or you'll strip out the Phillips head on the screw. Or better yet, either find, or buy some better/harder mounting screws!

This is another oversight by the manufacturer. Still, not terribly bothersome to me.

That was the only negative I ran across.

This could be a major pain in the ass for those who don't have extra pieces and parts on hand, in case of a situation like this.

If that were the case for me, I would have been pissed, knowing I would now need to make a trip to the hardware store for a single nut and bolt of good quality, which would probably cost more in gas, to drive into town & back, than the nut and bolt itself.

So if this was a problem for others as well, I can understand the 2 and 3 star reviews.

This is a nice unit, and would only cost a few cents more, for proper hardware.

Pretty silly (and cheap) for a manufacturer, if you ask me!

The power supply comes with this unit, so it's basically a mount, plug & play. Very easy!

For me, this IR illuminator works excellent! On my cameras, in night vision, this 1 emitter looks like 2-150 watt Halogen flood lights, just oozing out light, everywhere!

It's also a very nice and wide angle of light, and it does carry a good distance, but realistically, I think they are a little over confident in there claim of 300 to 400 feet. I can easily see a good 200 feet, possibly more, and like I said, with a nice wide spread.

The light is very even in it's distribution of light. It's a true flood light. No hot spots, just a large area full of light.

I'll upload a screen shot of the night vision.

It's currently at the top, so you don't have to scroll through a bunch of reviews.

I do highly recommend this IR emitter to anyone asking.

Solid construction, light is bright, weatherproofing is OK ...

Solid construction, light is bright, weatherproofing is OK - certainly not IP54 etc. I have it protected under eves but wouldn't expect it to do well in direct weather/rain. Main concern is water entering from rear bracket.

Note: Light does get warm to touch after being on for an hour or so. Does shut off automatically during day.

Works like a charm

I recently switched out my front yard camera from a Foscam to a Y-cam Bullet. The only advantage the Foscam had was better IR illumination. Once I changed the camera out, I could no longer see to my mailbox at night, and it's not that far away. With this illuminator, I can actually see all the way across the street. My neighbor's garage doors and fence are now visible at night on the camera, which was not true before even with the Foscam's superior illumination. This illuminator does not do much of anything for my Panasonic PTZ dome camera, though. Your camera must be sensitive to IR for this illuminator to work for you.

1 out of 4 I ordered was defective - otherwise a good product.

The IR lights work great with my Lorex 1080P IP camera system. I ordered a total of four of these, one of which was defective so I returned it. Comes with mount and hardware, really poorly written instructions, and a cheap power converter plug. For the price, I say it's a decent buy. Knocked one star due to the defective unit I received (see picture).
