I use this for loading facilities that require CB radio. Has been perfect well with 100 yards give or take. No troubles so far. Does not come with batteries, but also works with cigarette lighter cord that is included with this purchase.

I haven’t had much of a chance to use this yet, so I’ll tell you what I can. It’s loaded with 9 double AA rechargeables, and with batteries inside it has a great weight and balance to it. Fits great in your hand. I like the display on it, my old HH had only a 2 digit LED display for channel, this thing is just light years ahead, the display gives you so much information.
One of my favorite features is the ability to recharge the batteries without taking them out to put in a charger. So much nicer that way. Classier too.
And finally, kudos to Cobra 🐍 on that instruction manual, oh so nice…where to start? The type is big, so you won’t need to grab your magnifying glass when trying to read it, you also get a detailed set of instructions here, it’s a thick booklet, and…. It’s ALL in ENGLISH!!!! That’s right, let it sink in now. One owners manual and 1 language, how refreshing, been so long since I’ve seen anything like this. Most companies seem to have gotten so tight fisted with the moola that they make you go online to get your owners manual and if there is one, they make you go running for your magnifying glass to read it. Then you get one or two pages of vague instructions.

This unit works great right out of the box. Paid $77 in April 2023 for the unit without the magnet mount antenna. I really like there are 10 weather channels, I pick up 2 of them in NE Atlanta, GA. The scan feature works really great in conjunction with the adjustable squelch. It takes 9 AA batteries or use the included 12v adapter. It also has a nifty button that lets you cycle between Ch 9, 19 and back to all channels. The backlight is pleasing to the eye, and there is a side light button that lets you engage the light after it cycles off. I have an external magnetic mount full whip antenna that with an adapter really hauls in CB’s from far away, but when I’m on trips I prefer using the included rubber ducky antenna to listen in on truckers I know are in my immediate vicinity. The portability of this thing is great and I can’t reiterate enough how incredible the NOAA weather radio is. What’s also strange to me is the stripped down version of this without the radio scan feature and without the NOAA weather radio is sold at LOVE’s truck stops for $69. Why would anyone want that version ? Why doesn’t LOVE’s carry this version ? This is a real winner for the price and portability and truthfully I’d pay the $77 just to have the NOAA feature only, the fact I also get a functional 40 channel CB with the ability to transmit at 4 watts is unreal.

The Cobra HH50WXST 40 Channel CB Radio is a decent walkie-talkie for the price. It has large buttons and easy to operate. Battery life depends on usage and type. The standard rubber duck antenna meant for convenience and short range. You will want to upgraded it for extended range like a HYS Communications 27 MHz telescopic antenna. You can buy an adapter to hook it up on a mobile or base antenna. The handheld feels good in hand. The LCD display is easy to see. Always liked Cobra Electronics products. The Cobra PMRSM Speaker/ Microphone with lapel clip is a good addition when the radio is hooked to you belt. Walkie-talkies bring me back to the old days of simple radio Communication fun!

So... I got this CB radio brand new, and tried it out from the get-go...
Welllllll... The radio has a problem. A BIG problem... And that is, every time I press the PTT button (which is what you use to talk to someone on the other side), the CB resets itself... EVERY TIME. And this isn't with the batteries...oh ho ho no ... This is it with the Radio PLUGGED IN at FULL POWER! I can't even imagine how it's going to work with stand alone batteries!!
It's sad to see my $100 purchase go to waste and my dollars being spent on something so new and DEFECTIVE.
I attached a video to this review to show you all how the radio resets every time I press the PTT button.... With it being plugged into the included DC plug.
