CZUR Scanner ET24 Pro: don’t buy it before reading my review

I purchased the CZUR ET24 Pro after carefully reading many reviews and concluding that it was the best option for a professional scanner in the market - and it truly delivers.

As a professor of Artificial Intelligence at Einstein In Brazil, this device enables something that would have been almost unimaginable not long ago: transforming technical books into high-quality PDFs that I can actively interact with. It allows me to study and absorb content in much more dynamic ways - asking questions, creating mind maps, generating targeted summaries, presentations, infographics, and even podcasts or video lectures. All of this has become a powerful extension of both my teaching and my own continuous learning in a field that evolves extremely fast.

The scanner stands out for its speed and excellent image quality. One feature I particularly appreciate is its ability to flatten scanned pages from an open book, producing clean and highly accurate digital copies.

If there is one area for improvement, it would be the system used to hold the book open. Ideally, this element should be completely removed from the final scanned image. Occasionally, there is a slight yellowish distortion that reveals an unwanted artifact. Since the product receives frequent updates, I am confident this feature will continue to improve—moving from being 98% effective to truly seamless and invisible in the final output.

Aside from that, everything works very well. The lighting system, both from above and the sides, does a great job minimizing reflections and ensuring consistent results.

Overall, this is an excellent product. It is efficient, fast, relatively portable, and built with outstanding quality. I highly recommend it.

Excellent book scanner for personal library

I am scanning books in my library to develop searchable PDFs as an aid to research and writing. I have tried various methods for this including a flatbed scanner, a less expensive book scanner, and an app on my iPad. What I like best about this product is its page flattening technology and the ability to use the finger cots provided to eliminate finger images in the scans. The device comes with a button to scan that can be switched out to a foot pedal. This makes it very easy to hold a book open with two hands and then hit the scan button via the foot pedal to capture the image.

It will take some time and practice to scan a book well, particularly a thick paperback where it is hard to get the pages to lie flat. The scanner allows you to line up the centerline of the book with a centerline in the software so the software can split two facing pages into single pages. The software then has a variety of editing tools such as cropping, color, and other image adjustments that can be applied to single pages or a batch of pages. I had to find a video online to figure out how to use the finger cots correctly, but once done, it was very easy.

This product fits the bill I need it for very nicely. It can be used to scan anything that will fit on the background mat and also can be used in a presentation mode connected to a video monitor or projector to display materials in a meeting or class. Great product and very happy I spent the money to get it.

Works with Snapdragon/ARM Windows - ScanSnap didn’t

Very good machine with ease of setup and operates well. I bought to replace a ScanSnap scanner because the ScanSnap would not work with a Snapdragon/ARM Windows 11 PC. The CZUR works perfectly. The quality of scans is good and it does a good job of aligning images. It even took pages of a printed Excel file, scanned them and they I ran through ChatGPT and recreated the Excel file. Amazing!! I like the separate finger and foot scanner start buttons.

Perfect for scanning documents for emails, books for school/academia, flash cards, and much more.

This product is perfect for students (or place of employment) looking to scan books, scan documents for email/personal use, scan flash cards for study, and much more. Unlike a paper scanner or flatbed, it handles a variety of formats, which can be modified and exported in a variety of useful formats that are readily searchable. For example I have a ton of multiple resources to write an academic paper. I can scan books, articles, etc. into a format and quickly search/reference them for whatever application I need such as summary for AI, personal reference if I cannot recall where I read something, and much more.

I have also been able to use the scanner to create digitized flash cards for use on quizlet, etc. I definitely recommend this for being able to create PDF's that you can mark up as well. I use Remarkable digitized notebooks, which only works well with PDF formats... I can do that with this to make notes for personal use or to demonstrate anything I need to reference for slides and presentations. It is an EXTREMELY flexible tool. Another plus, if you need to record hands-on video-clips for youtube, presentation, etc., this has you covered.

The scanner itself has a premium build quality to it. It doesn't take up much space and is light-weight. The software is lacking in terms of aesthetics, but it gets the job done effectively... I'm just nit-picking at this point. I use a Surface Pro 11 and had to go into properties to upscale the software to so it wouldn't look pixelated. Also, it uses USB-A ports, which should be updated to USB-C IMO, etc. Despite that, it functions as intended.

This is probably the best device on the market for scanning books. It isn't cheep, but once you start looking into options, things get expensive pretty fast. I started out with the CZUR ET16Plus and found that the resolution was lacking... so I somewhat reluctantly spent the extra money to get this model (limited budget). I believe the ET24 Pro is the sweet spot for an all in one scanner. If desk real-estate is tight, consider one of CZUR's folding models. I prefer the fixed base on this scanner as I am not the biggest fan of moving parts.

Awesome design and easy to use. If you are considering the device, you probably need it and give this company a try. They seem like a small business that put a lot of thought and effort into getting this into production for such a niche market. I'm working on my Doctorate degree now, but would have greatly appreciated it long ago with other work/schooling/aspects of life... I've mostly been using apps (Doc scanners) from my phone, but couldn't bring myself to pay for subscriptions, etc to remove water marks and so forth. I reached out to CZUR customer support (regarding the software appearing pixelated) and they responded within 24 hours several times... they are on the ball... great customer support that cares about the user experience.

On a final note, beyond home use and cleaning up clutter around the house from bills, etc sitting around, it is useful for ministry. I can scan books, timelines, charts, maps diagrams for Bible studies, preaching, etc. Pretty handy. Just shocked there aren't more options out there, but other than the port and software update recommendations it functions pretty flawlessly for what it is. The laser scan and auto-image straightening work really well too. Software tools are not overly complicated and thoughtfully/well-designed. The software is rather intuitive once you figure out the settings/features you like to get the images and file-formats you are working with.

Anyhow, give it a try if you think it'll work for you. Its one of those tools you keep around and greatly appreciatte it when you need it.

High-quality Versatile Scanning!

High quality precision device. I am using this ET24 model to scan larger documents that won't fit on a standard flat-bed scanner. Easy set up. Good software. Highly recommend this product.

Excellent product for the price point

Everything about the scanner is exactly as described. The scan quality, speed, etc. is exceptional. I am a professional librarian, and this is a great solution for those not wanting to spend (literally) tens of thousands of dollars on a scanner. Packaging was impeccable and the product is very sturdy, so there was no concern about damage during shipping. Customer service has been excellent for the questions that I had before buying, and software install was seemless on my M1 MacBook Air.

Latest update scans your left hand!

Was going well but with the latest update it's literally scanning my left hand even though it's blurring out the finger cot. I can't be cropping my left hand out of every other image. Please fix this immediately! I've scanned several books so far with no issues with it capturing my left hand. The latest update brought on this issue.

Eclectic Elegance

Deep memories to hold on to

Fast way to hold on to old memories.

Not just for book and teaching but with thoughts can be add to a creative sharing moment once I complete the final of my testing will return to finish my review in more details. There is more to life than to be boxed in. I am specially surprised in the support I received with my enquires and the timely response. Also the knowledge of the czur staff in pointing out strengths and weaknesses of the product and show best option closing the gap in my deep research.

Just what I wanted.

I love this scanner. Used it for a scanning project that involved various sizes of papers, photos, and clippings. Probably a couple hundred scans total. In the past, I would have used my flatbed Brother MFC-6710DW, which I also love by the way. But this CZUR scanner was easier and quicker. And the final product was good quality.

Over the last 30ish years, I've scanned a lot of stuff. Document feeders are quick and easy, until the paper jams. Flatbed scanners are good but don't work great for books and can be tedious when scanning lots of pages. This CZUR machine is easy and quick, works great with books, and the results are excellent. This will be my go to scanner now.

I'm retired now and much of what I scan these days is for genealogy research. Including old papers, family photos, extracts from books, etc. This CZUR is ideal for what I do.

Easy to Use, Great Quality

The scanner operates effectively as an overhead scanner with lights which work providing the correct exposure for various media types.

I do a lot of scanning of old high gloss magazines so I use the side lights instead of the overhead, the colors are vibrant and text is sharp. Some times I have to use supplementary light to ensure both top and bottom of the text is accurately captured.

I have noticed that the text OCR is better than most high end software.

For books that have difficulty staying open instead of using the cots, I use a picture frame to hold the pages open.

Maybe good for you, but couldn't do what I needed

I wanted so much to love this scanner, but it can't do what I need. The curve flattening technology sounded just the thing for some 1880's books I wanted to scan without applying too much pressure. Unfortunately, the scanner does not recognize books that are wider than they are tall and only scans part of the pages.

I bought this particular model for the large viewing size, to use with my early 1900's over-sized magazines, thinking this would be less wear and tear than maneuvering them around a flatbed scanner. However, in the scans, the colors are very washed out and not true to the original. I tried different combinations of amount of ambient light and which scanner lights were turned on and then tried editing in Photoshop, but nothing could get the colors close enough to the original. (This was not glossy paper.) Also, even when set for color scans, the background of aged paper of black & white pages appeared as light gray, not the actual tan color. Sometimes I want that aged look. The print was readable, but not as crisp as I am used to with flatbed scanners.

I read through posts in a Czur users Facebook group and saw others complaining of similar issues, so I believe these are software or camera problems, and not a case of receiving a defective scanner.

If all you need is to quickly capture readable text from a large number of black & white, regular-shaped books, I think you will find this scanner to be awesome. If color reproduction matters or you have odd-shaped books, then think again.

Own several CZUR scanners and they are the best

I own a CZUR Fancy S Pro, AURA X Pro and this ET24 Pro. I waited a while to write this review because I originally had issues with the quality of the scans that tech support could not help with, but after some experimentation I found a solution and am getting GREAT quality and so the reason for the 5 stars. I am passing those tips along in this review so other can make the right choice.

The difference between the AURA X Pro and the ET24 is in the fidelity and quality fo the scan. While the Aura X is GREAT, the results from the ET24 are OUTSTANDING! But this comes with some considerations anyone who purchases must be willing to accept. These result mostly from the sensativity of the scanner and accuracy of the scan.

When I originally started using the ET24 I could not get scans without a "ghost" from the specialized finger cots used to hold the page down. You could barely see these on the scanned page, but they were there. The tech support team was very helpful but it came down to very small shadows from the room lighting. No matter how I changed the room lighting (or turned it off) this did not help and the lights on the scanner did not resolve it. The pages were still great, but not "perfect". After a lot of trial and error I went to the local art store and bought a piece of 16" x 20" MUSEUM QUALITY non-glare glass (not the cheap stuff). As the picture I uploaded shows the added advantage from using the glass is that is kept the pages flat without the need for the finger cots and solved the glare problem. Flipping pages and scanning took longer, but the results were well worth it for books and documents I wanted in the best posisble quality. I am not considering spending the money to buy a 16' x 20" sheet of Tru Vue Optium Museum Acrylic instead of worring about the glass that could break (see using the ET24 as a portable scanner below). I found that using the glass I could also scan without using the main lights on the head of the scanner and obtained great results since the glass diffused any ambient light.

The second challenge I found with the scanner is that is is not as portable as my Aura X Pro. If you want super portability then go with the Aura X.... BUT, I also found a way to take the ET24 with me when I do rare books and documents in libraries that I want the greatest quality for. This was also a simple solution. The original ET24 box with padding slips into easily as does the 16" x 24" glass (another reason I plan to buy acrylic). All the accessories (and more like the CZUR binder covers) fit right in so I carry this with my laptop to those special places and it works like a champ. SO YOU CAN, with little effort, use the ET24 as a portable scanner! For those who want to use the full black mat on the ET24 you can buy a larger glass piece but I did not see any need for it.

I uploaded some photos to show all of this.

Any regrets? YES ONE! That is that within about a week after I bought my ET24 the ET25 came out and I wish someone told me! Other than that, great products and hope all this helps you in buying and using yours!

This Scanner Is Magic!!!

Wow, what an awesome scanner! I scanned a book of 800+ pages, got it in a searchable PDF format within 2 hours. It’s a bit pricey, but if you have proper use cases like I do, I think you will find it worthwhile and LOVE it!

Fantastic Customer Support!

We purchased this scanner in August 2023 and have been using it for about nine months. In May 2024, the scanner would not turn on properly except for the blue attachment light on the back. When we contacted the customer support team, they were very quick to respond and did not hesitate to send us a new scanner since it was still under warranty. We could not be happier with their level of attention to detail and willingness to help.

Perfect For Scanning Photo Albums

This scanner is perfect for scanning photo albums. Unfortunately, because my photo albums are too large, I had to raise the scanner on books and forgo the black mat. Because of this, I had to use the manual selection feature in the settings. It works great. In the last 7 days I have scanned 132 photo albums (~20,000 photos). However, I will admit, it is not a high quality scan of photos as I would like. I will have to buy a different scanner that will feed the pictures one-by-one, but that would mean I have to take them out of the sleves.. and I'm not quite ready for that.

With that being said, this scanner does do an amazing job at scanning text. I have scanned a few books for my personal use to read on my phone and the OCR does wonders. Overall, I highly recommend this scanner. But I will warn you, it does not take the place of a scanner that scan photo-by-photo. But if you are wanting to scan books or photo albums, it is perfect! Just turn the page and press your foot down and it will take care of the rest!

Realize that this is NOT suitable for photo scanning

I purchased this scanner believing all the ads about how this could be a great all purpose scanner, but don't let the ads fool you. This is a good scanner for documents but nothing else. Don't think that you will be able to quickly scan all your old photos with any quality. I've been very disappointed with the quality of the photo scanning. I turned on/off the overhead lights, on/off the side lights. used external lights. I thought this scanner would be a great device to help me quickly scan old photos but it really only works well for material printed on flat paper.

The software that comes with the scanner is mediocre at best. There aren't very many settings that you can play with.

Thoroughly impressed!!

I work as an Archivist, which requires extensive scanning of documents, photographs, magazines, newspapers, etc. I’ve used several scanners before, but the CZUR ET24 is really quite special. The unpacking of this product was so much fun because every item is so clearly labeled – something an archivist really appreciates! The equipment setup and downloading of software could not have been easier – intuitive and user-friendly. The design is super sleek and produces superior imagery. Previously, I used flat-bed scanners, but CZUR ET24 scanner provides versatility. For example, I can capture images of objects with this scanner, which is a major bonus because it SAVES ME TIME. The other option would be to use my digital SLR and upload images later, but that disrupts the workflow when I’m scanning a number of different artifacts. When scanning thick magazines, the flatten feature is really superb. The side light feature is essential when capturing magazines or any other items that have a glare – and reduces that glare in the final file. Being able to run OCR within the CZUR system allows me to skip the step of running it in another program – and instead, I can just upload the asset directly to my DAM. I opened the box about 30 minutes ago and I’ve already scanned a bunch of print ads. I am really happy with this scanner and am excited to use it more in the coming weeks and months.

Amazing Book Scanner! Highly Recommended for Archives and Professional Research!

I've been using this scanner for over a month for archiving old photo albums (see the above pictures), and scanning old books for academic research as part of my business. This scanner does a phenomenal job, and the quality of scans is barely lower than using my printer scanner. The software is great at making PDFs of books that are searchable, and does a fine job with Roman style text. Unfortunately, software does struggle with traditional German Fraktur text.

Nonetheless, I highly recommend this book scanner for professionals and hobbyists alike!

Well done CZUR! You've earned yourself a long term customer!

The BEST Product I have ever bought

I like scanning my books into my tablet, so I can read wherever I am and whatever I want. And buying this product is the best investment I have ever made. It is more expensive than anything I have bought in the past, but it is worth every penny. Basically, it's technology on straightening out text near the seam line of a book has made everything I used to do obsolete. So now, I go through many pages of book using the pedal and the finger cots to scan. Then, I go through each page to see if I need to use any of the many tools available in the app for manual correction. After this I pdf. And if I don't have enough time to finish this process, the scans are saved in a folder you can come back to later. It is great!

However, they should probably do a better job of explaining each software feature and each piece of hardware in the box. A more detailed manual or videos will do. It took me a while to figure it out, and I did run a lot of experiments to get it right. But now I am absolutely happy with this product.
