Both happy and sad

Very good for beginners like me. Very easy to read and practice but I’m giving 4 star for the book condition. I always love to read brand new books. I don’t wanna return for this though.

The Best Book on learning Piano

I recently decided to take up piano again. I took piano lessons when I was very young, so I didn't know how much I would remember. But this book is great at reviewing everything for me. I'm happy to say that it's all coming back an this particular book is great in it's teaching tecnigues!! Thank you.

The church gave my son a piano

Well now we have a piano. Might as well learn how to play it. This is easy to read. Put together well. Spiral bind is quality and pages are thicker paper. Not flimsy. Has over 25 songs to play. Even happy birthday!

I actually finished over half the book before I decided to stop using it.

Okay, I actually started off really liking this book. It seemed simple and straight to the point. I learned a bit of piano when I was younger so I was able to follow this book for the most part and jog my memory without problems. But I think if someone is a complete beginner, they may become lost at times due to lack of explanations.

Although this book has a good list of songs to learn from, many of them actually lack videos to show you how they should be played. So you have no reference to anything in case you get stuck on a song or are wondering if you're actually playing it right. I got to page 68-69 and realized that the finger positions indicated for the House of the Rising Sun are completely wrong. The notes overlap, making the song impossible to play as indicated in the pictures attached. I thought that maybe I was just reading the sheet music wrong, but I saw a more in-depth review from January 2021 indicating the same problem.

In one sense, I can see why this book has so many positive reviews, but it makes me wonder if the majority of the people who bought this are just deciding to ignore the obvious mistakes written in the book.

Missing some pages

All is fine except for five missing pages in the “song and pieces section” - other than that its a solid workbook. 👍

Super Comprehensive for Beginners

It is super helpful that the lessons isolate the left and right hand in the beginning. Building some comfortability and music theory with each hand separately before putting them together for songs helps with avoiding getting overwhelmed and frustrated with the unfamiliarity of playing piano! The different chapters really break down the rules behind playing and understanding music, so instead of feeling like you’re just having to memorize music theory, it instead is like helpful explanations of what you’re doing and how to play better. And because the book teaches you how to play simple things first before all the rules and theory, you can feel like you already have some knowledge and ability to better understand and use the theory when you get to it.

When you get into the first pages of the book, it explains finger positions and absolute keyboard basics. It mentions the video lessons if you need further clarification on some things, which is really helpful! Sometimes you need active visuals to get the full picture. Introducing the first key notes (C, D, E) by listing them with numbers corresponding to the finger that rests on said key is a really smart way to teach both skills (key notes and where to put your fingers). Even if you don’t remember the key’s notes at first, the finger numbers on the first songs help you get through them easily without a lot of stopping and hesitation, which is the biggest frustration when learning something new- not being able to get through it consistently!

The suggestion on the pages to say the key notes out loud is an awesome reminder and tip; verbalizing things you’re trying to memorize helps a lot when learning something new. Moving on to the first tricky part of theory- time signatures. Time signatures can be a difficult skill to learn and understand, but this book explains it so well with a clapping exercise and visuals! Starting with understanding how to count the constant beat in all music first, and then introducing the specific time signatures is perfect for absolute beginners. Time signatures like ¾ can be challenging to those who already have music knowledge without the right base information, so understanding it at the beginning is really important. As person who plays music and had to go through learning it all for the first time, the explanations are really clear and grounded in simple logics and visuals. Really perfect for beginners, it’s fun and simple to learn the basics that take you to playing amazing songs!!

A new, fun and modern way to learn music!

After downloading this book, I am very happy to know it’s very simple to read the music! After doing musical threats for twelve years I still never learned how to read music because it was intimidating. Having the videos to follow along with help to make this a new and innovated way to learn a new instrument. This book introduced me to new topics in a very gradual way that make it less intimidating then just reading the music and hoping for the best. The songs are simple and perfect for beginners and helps ease you into more difficult songs over the book. I had fun discovering this book, and am so glad that it was as easy as it seemed. This would also be great for anyone older who decided to brush up on their skills and relive their time playing the piano! It gives me hope as a new piano player, and hopefully in the future, I’ll be able to download another one of their books to further my skills!

confusing

I played piano as a child and I just wanted to brush up to teach my grandson the basics. I would not suggest getting this book.

Book was torn when it arrived.

The book is very thorough and easy to follow. I was very disappointed that upon arrival it was torn.

Very tiny print

It’s a confusing book for beginners and tiny notes that you need a magnifying glass for. Very hard to read the helpful letters inside the notes.

Book needs different binding.

I am working my way through this book. So far I Ike what it teaches. I have one serious criticism. It is nearly impossible to put the book on the piano where musical score is placed. The problem is that the book will not lay flat. I took my book to FedEx and I had them cut the spine off and put the pages in a spiral binder. It cost me about $10. Works like a charm.

User friendly, detailed and extra lessons via web

This book is written for a beginner piano player that appears to be straightforward and detailed. Skimming through the book it looks like a great tool.

Good for beginners, except for a print error.

This book is very easy to get into. I think for people with little to no music theory experience it is probably pretty good.

However, while practicing, I noticed that the explanation of where the notes on the bass clef correspond with the keyboard, I noticed that there is a print/design error showing two groups of two black keys next to each other, instead of alternating with a group of 3 black keys like it should be. I think this could end up being very frustrating to someone who is totally new at the piano.

Made into notebook

Just what I needed, start from the beginning. First thing I did was get it made into a notebook, it will lie flat. Can’t wait to start.

100% worth it, everything is explained so well

I absolutely love this book. I’m 25yo. Have never had any musical background growing up. This book is so simple and easy to follow. Would 10/10 recommend to anyone. I’ve only reached the part where the author starts teaching you how to read the notes, long way to go. I look forward to learning the piano each morning because of this book!

Perfect for beginners, if you’ve never played before, get this book.

I’ve never taken piano before and this book is perfect for that. In the beginning it focuses on hand positions and Piano key recognition. The note reading is gradual and easy, the book also tells you where to place your fingers. My piano teacher uses this book during our lessons and she seems to like it. I’m finally getting to the point where I can play simple songs. That’s gives you feeling of accomplishment. The videos are helpful too if you get stuck.
