Budget friendly sub, but doesn’t sound budget at all! Love this sub!

I had a TruAudio 12” 500W powered sub in my last home theater. Moved houses and no sub in my theater room. Didn’t want to spend $600-800 again, so looked for sub $300 options. Centered on Klipsh and Polk, then found the CS1200 - read up a bit and decided to give it a try.

Arrived quickly, packed super well. The sound is amazing! Sub is deep and thumps - you can feel it in both rows up my home theater. Very happy with the value and the 12” size is great for a largish theater room with 2 rows of soft seating (plus bar).

REALLY PLEASED with my purchase after a week and several movies - still breaking in, so I only have it halfway up but sounds awesome! It looks great too - pic colors seem off a little, but it looks high quality and blends in.

Very happy with the value of this product.

We are very happy with this product. Along with my speaker kit from Dayton as well, this is all the sound I need in a large living room. Controls are great and setup is a no trainer. Can't beet it for the price; it's a great value.

Dayton Audio CS1000 — Simply the Perfect Sub at This Price

Overall Impression:

I got the 10" Classic Series Sub, and I couldn't be happier with it. It completes my 5.1 system powered by a Yamaha RX-V481 AVR, paired with Polk T15s (soon to be replaced) and a Klipsch Icon Series KC-25 center. It adds low end to my bookshelves and does so beautifully without being overpowering in any way.

Gain Levels Breakdown:

40% Gain: A laid-back, relaxed listening experience.

50% Gain: The sweet spot to start feeling the sub-bass frequencies without being too pronounced. Movies with Dolby surround really shine here.

65% Gain: The spot to experience its lowest frequencies. Here it becomes authoritative over the other speakers—impactful, punchy, and wall-shaking, all in a good way.

Performance & Sound Quality:

I wouldn't dial anything above 85% because that makes it a tad bit boomy, but props to Dayton since no muddy distortion is introduced even at the highest setting.

I have the sub crossover set at 80Hz and usually keep it around 50% gain. In my small room (3m x 3m / 10ft x 10ft), anything above 50% is a tad bit too loud for an apartment with neighbors around, above, and below me. At 50%, movies are punchy and very enjoyable; you can feel thumping explosions and roaring thunder through your body and almost think it's happening around you. For music at 50% gain, high-quality tracks sound fast, tight, and articulate with great transient response—you can definitely hear note-to-note distinction and texture between different frequencies. While it isn't quite as slamming for music at 50% as it is for movies, bumping it to 65% brings that extra kick.

Minor Issue:

The only bummer is that the Auto-On feature requires a bit of high volume to kick on. Because of this, the sub sometimes turns itself off when you're listening or watching at low volume. You’ll be in the middle of a scene or track and suddenly realize there's no low end—and sure enough, you check behind the sub and my lord, the light is red, meaning it went into standby. Once triggered with a bit more volume, though, it performs flawlessly.

Warranty Note:

I used an international shipping agent to forward it overseas to Kenya, Africa, so I can't comment on Dayton's 5-year warranty, but it arrived safely and has been working flawlessly.

Verdict:

Overall, this sub is worth every dollar and performs exceptionally for its price. It has a high build quality and finish, with a substantial weight to it. It also looks great in person in black, both with and without the grille (product images online don't do it justice). Highly recommended!

Absolutely insane value for a 12in sub that goes to 20hz, very tight and clean bass how does dayton audio do it!?

Good little sub for a good price

Listen, is this 8” powered sub going to shatter any windows? No. But is it a great little speaker at an even better price? Yep ✅. I had some very specific space constraints, under a coffee table, see pic, and this guy fits perfectly. There were some positive reviews so figured I’d give it a shot. I have it hooked up with 2:1 RCA cable to an ~15 year old Yamaha receiver and it adds what my sound system has been missing, some low end. It sounds clear, I love the auto on feature, and I’m happy with my purchase. I was also delivered in 2 days. For $150 you get a great little sub that hits some lows for a cheap price. It feels and looks well made.

Nice! Great for the money!

Looks clean and simple grill on or off very much a fan of that. It makes me REALLY wish I got the brown one instead! It produces nice bass for an 8 inch.

Great value.

These are a great match for my wharfedale linton speakers. They sound great and I am very happy with them. They make the Lintons sound bigger and the soundstage is much larger. I am using them for music only and they are about 1/3 volume. With the right music they will pound your chest.

Elegante y potente!!

Deep, musical, high-value subwoofer

I am very happy with this sub. It sounds musical, with very deep tones down to 25hz, without any kind of unwanted boomy sound. It was very easy to configure; I'm currently using about an 80hz crossover. On power, the volume goes up much higher than I need. Functionally, the volume adjustment, crossover, and phase inversion are exactly what I needed. If the natural wood look is your preference over black, this one is a great choice as well. If I have any complaint on the look, the speaker does press out slightly on the fabric cover on the left of the unit, which doesn't bother me but can give the fabric a slightly dirty look. Keep in mind this physical depth of this unit is significant.

I did purchase some vibration absorbing feet, a long shielded 1/8" to RCA cable, and a longer power cable to complete the setup for my particular configuration.

Overall, I am highly stoked on the value for money this sub represents. I definitely feel like I made the right choice for my home office setup.
