I do not recommend. You can find something better

Super unhappy with these I got them for four wheeling with my buddy which were usually only a hundred yards apart and they just sound like garbage. It's the second pair I had I thought the other ones were just broken but they sound like garbage as well

Broke after a week, poorly constructed

Worked great… for a week and a half!

Love the quality of the sound and the range on these walkie talkies. However, the screws used by the company were clearly not the correct ones, as the entire faceplate on both walkies fell off after about a week of use. No hard conditions, no major drops. Looking into the inside of the walkie, it’s super obvious that the yellow “washers” had completely cracked due to the screws not being the correct width or length, which meant they didn’t connect to the faceplate to keep it attached.

Such a bummer!!!

Broken walkie clip

DeWalt let me down

The walkie-talkies are good, but I do question the design choice to place the push-to-talk button in front of the radio, rather than on the side, like nearly all other 2-way radios. That sounds nitpicky and I could’ve ignored it, if one of the radios had not arrived damaged. The holster was damaged when it arrived. I would’ve returned it, if I didn’t need it immediately for my job.

TOUGH!

One of the radios was unknowingly dropped during a control burn. We found it a couple of hours later by pressing the call button on the other radio. This is how we found it. Charred and melted but it still works! These radios are tough. They work well in deep woods also. Highly recommend!

Broken when arrived

I haven’t even opened the package yet and I already see the antenna is broken… radios looked already wore down like they were already used. I will be returning my product.

Found after 10 months in the woods… working!

I found this radio half buried in the woods half buried in dirt, by our electrical transformer. It’s been over ten months since a crew was out here, so I figured it was long since ruined. Imagine my surprise when after charging it via the usb-c jack, it came to life and worked perfectly! Plays well with other radios, after I reset the DCS privacy codes to “0”. I had googled a manual, and learned that they come pre-set with a “default” DCS/CTSS privacy code per channel, which means you will have to play with these settings before they will play well with a non-dewalt radio that does not have its privacy codes set. On the other hand, the presets mean you’ll be less likely to hear background chatter when using other dewalt radios.

Great little radio. A literal buried treasure.

14.5 Acre Multi-Family Construction Site - Works Great

The next best thing to very pricey FCC Licensed Products. 22 buildings and we can communicate easily and clearly...

Really good long distance work’s great

Range isn’t what is advertised

2W radio coverage up to 300,000 sq. ft., 25 floors

I mean I might not be the best with what this is actually is over actual distance. But I was .25m away from a buddy and it was not working. I’m guessing this is good for close range but not for what I needed in telecommunications field.

Does its job

Had ordered this previously because i have a trip to an amusement park and i dont like just relying on cell phones. Its a rechargable device that uses usb c. So far the communication is pretty clear in downtown. I will see how far i can get a clear communication in the city vs open areas.

Survived months exposed to the sun and rain.

We have several of these at my workplace. They work very well when you are in line of sight. The farthest we've used these would've been about a half mile on flat terrain, with buildings in between. Even then, it was difficult to understand what the other person was saying. This is pretty much on par with most other radios out there, in my experience.

I'm writing this review because one of our team members lost one of these radios out in the field and we gave up trying to find it. About 4 months later, we came across it while working in the same area and, lo and behold, it still works! It had been laying out in the elements and survived a few rainstorms. It looks like some critters had chewed on it as well. We were all shocked to see that the radio was still working, and the speakers still sound normal. We're going to keep it as a backup radio.

Product came used and open

Wouldn’t know if they work because it came used and open and damaged. Highly disappointed

Not waterproof at all

Got these to use on seadoos to keep in touch. Fell in the water once with the radio on my flotation vest. Was out if the water in 30 seconds and didn't go any deeper than 2-3 feet. At the end of the day when turning off the power I noticed moisture in the display window. Unit stopped working. Pulled the battery cover a week later and the connector was green with corrosion. Battery is good as I swapped with the working unit. Unit only works when connected to the charger.

List of Codes and Frequencies

Manual obfuscates the CTCSS and DCS codes and makes it extremely difficult for customers to use with other manufacturers products. This table will help.

Updated review 2023. See all info below.

UPDATE TO REVIEW OCTOBER 2023

I got an amazing email from DeWalt along with a phone number for a lady to call about the issue. Today, I came home to find a package on my front porch I wasn't expecting.

See video....

They went above and beyond in troubleshooting my issue and asked for me to send the radios back on their FedEx account so they can send them back to the manufacturing plant for diagnosis. You really can't ask much better than that level of customer support! Thanks again for being Awesome Dewalt!

UPDATE TO REVIEW AUGUST 2023

The new version of these radios has a USB-C charging connector. That's pretty awesome. Unfortunately they also come with a new glitch. After 9 months, three of the four units are having the same issue (see video above).

After 9 months of intermittent use, we're using these on a job site daily. We're low voltage engineers - not masonry contractors, so they're not being beaten up or abused. Three of the four we purchased (75%) are having a problem where the speaker just sounds so incredibly "tinny" and weak that the guy on the other end can't hear them. I had to go up 5 floors today and find a guy and ask if his radio was turned on. Turns out it was... just not well. Three out of four failing is WAY too high a failure rate for the investment these require. I've reached out to DeWalt and we'll see what they can do about them.

ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW:

I purchased these after seeing another contractor using them on the job site. The primary thing I liked about them was the small amount of buttons and the placement of the call button. Too often on the job, our more professional radios have too many options for the novice user. Even worse, the buttons often get pressed while in their tool belt or tool pouch. This radio has a large call button that's hard to press and not likely to get pressed by accident. That, I really like!

The radio itself is great.

The 2Watts of power work great for penetrating 35 floors of a highrise that the other cheaper radios won't do. I see other guys try and fail every day, but these penetrate pretty well with the extra power.

The Micro USB charging port is awesome and one of the main reasons I picked up these radios. Rather than having to return them to the office and put 'em in the dock at night, the guys can charge them in their trucks, at home, or even on a portable battery pack, so that's been great.

They charge quickly and they work well.

As far as the belt clip goes - I'm not very impressed. In fact I'm a little mad that I spent so much and they've not lasted a month. So far out of four radios, we've used them a total of about six days on job sites. Three of the four have busted belt clips. The clips are really cheaply made and the radio can fall out of them. One of them fell three feet from a tool pouch and the antenna shroud just snapped off. I found it later and put it back on, but it shouldn't snap off that easy.

Worse, the plastic that houses the belt clip contains so little material that the clips simply snap off. There's about 1/16th inch of plastic holding that together.

Overall - GREAT radio - just plan to either be careful with it, or you'll find yourself fashioning a zip-tie clip for it when the belt clip breaks.

Good range, well made

I ordered these Walkie-Talkies for two reasons: 1) when my family goes on cruises we have no way to communicate, and these should bridge that gap, and 2) when my mother-in-law visits from Europe and my wife takes her to the mall, etc. they have no way to communicate because her cell phone does not work here. Now they do.

Setting them up was very straightforward. You have to take the backs off and insert the batteries. Be aware that the screws that you have to take out for this procedure are tiny. I tried to be careful but dropped one nonetheless, and then spent about half an hour finding it.

Once the batteries are in, you place them in the charger. A red light comes on while they are charging, and then goes off once the charging cycle is complete.

To test their range, I walked about half a mile away from our home and checked in with my wife, who remained indoors, as I was walking. I could still hear her and she me from the half-mile point, but at that range the clarity started to dwindle significantly and there was quite a bit of crackling in the transmission. Note though, that this was being tested in a neighborhood of mainly two-story brick homes with a lot of trees around, not out in an open area, so I was pretty pleased with their performance overall.

You can set them to vibrate when someone is calling, which I did. They also have a jack on the top for a headphone if you want to go that route.....I probably won't ever use that feature.

They can be set on 22 different channels....I've just left them on channel 1, which has worked fine for my purpose. They also come with two holsters to attach to a belt, and the instructions they come with are very clear and easy to follow.

They are slightly larger than I was expecting from the photos I saw in their description when I ordered them, but they're not overly clunky by any means IMO. I uploaded a photo alongside a measuring tape and an iPhone 6S to give you a good idea of their size.

Overall, I am very pleased with them and I do recommend them. They feel very solid in their build, thus delivering what you would expect from a DeWALT product.

I hope this review helped you to some degree....thanks for reading!
