Bluetooth. Wi-Fi. Real-Time Monitoring. More Amps Than I Need Now, Yet Provides Future Upgrade Path.

There is nothing wrong with my old L2 EV charger. I plug it into the car and it charges it up and that's it. No bells. No whistles. It just keeps blindly charging away night and day with nothing much to say.

I ordered this new EV charger so I can get real time stats on the state of the charging session. Once I got it connected to the 240-volt AC power, it only took a few minutes to download the app on my Android phone, pair the Bluetooth, and connect it to my home Wi-Fi system.

An added bonus I didn't expect is that it tracks power consumption and tracks estimated cost. Once I configured our local power utility rates (1.97 cents per kwh), it started reporting my actual cost of charging the car. I actually had to round up to 2.0 cents because it only accepts one decimal point. But it's close enough for a running estimate of daily, weekly, and monthly costs.

At 48 amps, this charger is actually more powerful than I presently need it for. My Prius Prime PHEV only accepts 16 amps of charging power. Plus my AWG 10 garage wiring is only good up to a maximum of 30 amps if I change the wall outlet and the panel breaker. Luckily, inside the housing of this charger, there is a little rotating switch for setting the maximum amperage. The app also allows me to set the current limit so I don't exceed the safe maximums for my current wiring. But that would only happen if I have a visitor using the charger for an EV that can actually take 48 amps of Level 2 charging such as a Hyundai Ioniq 5 or 6. But someday, I will upgrade to a faster charging EV and I will only have to upgrade my garage wiring to make it work.

Meanwhile, I'm happy having a charger now that communicates via an app, tracks the cost, and provides an upgrade path for the future.

Reliable Charger with Smart Features

I chose this charger because I wanted something from a trusted brand, and it hasn’t disappointed. Once installed, it has charged my EV reliably every time, and the 48A Level 2 charging is much faster than using a standard outlet.

One thing I appreciate is its compatibility. It works seamlessly with my EV, and knowing it’s designed to support a wide range of compatible electric vehicles makes it a great long-term choice if you own or plan to own different EVs.

The design is another highlight. It’s compact and doesn’t stick out far from the wall, giving the installation a clean, professional look. The unit feels rugged, and the 20-foot cable is long enough to reach the vehicle comfortably while remaining flexible to handle.

The DEWALT app was easy to set up, and I like being able to check charging status, monitor charging sessions, and adjust settings from my phone. The Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity have worked reliably so far.

Although it requires hardwiring, installation was straightforward for an electrician, and the charger has been trouble-free ever since.

Overall, it’s reliable, well designed, compatible with a wide range of EVs, and offers excellent value for money. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a dependable Level 2 home charger.

Crashes a lot with firmware updates

Crashing a lot, like every night. This was hard wired and permitted. I thought it was the hardwiring but apparently it’s the last two firmwares. Dewalt offers no support. It’s unsafe!!!!

Reliable DeWalt quality for less money than other EV charger brands

DeWalt is our family's go-to brand for reliable tools. This EV charger is no exception, and brings reliability and ease of use to our garage. For its price, the charging speed is competitive with the other reliable brands. I prefer it to those brands because it's less expensive but sacrifices no quality or use. I trust it, I've recommended it to my friends, and I'm pleased to add it to my collection of DeWalt products.

Great Choice for An EV Charger

I’ve been very happy with this DEWALT Level 2 EV charger. The hardwired 48A setup provides fast, reliable charging, and the build quality feels rugged and well-made, just what you’d expect from DEWALT. The 20-foot cable is long enough to easily reach my vehicle without having to park in a perfect spot.

The app was straightforward to set up, and the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity lets me monitor charging, schedule sessions, and check status from my phone. I also like that it’s rated for both indoor and outdoor installation, giving plenty of flexibility for mounting.

Charging has been consistent with no issues, and the unit operates quietly. If you’re looking for a durable, high-powered Level 2 charger with smart features and dependable performance, this is an excellent choice and well worth the investment.

Name brand 1772 charging unit

This Dewalt L2 unit has what it takes to get your vehicle charging fast and takes the daily weat and tear beating that chargers get.

First off, this unit can be installed by the homeowner in many states. Just follow the directions to the letter and you can do it safely. The wall mount bracket, screw terminals and pre-wired plug all make it pretty easy to handle.

Second, this is a direct attachment design that can handle up to 48A continuous charging on a 60A breaker wiring run.

Third, because this unit is sold for wired and plug in installations, it has all the openings and current limited adjustment to enable both wired or plug in configurations assuming you have a 240V 50A 4 wire plug available.

Lastly the connectivity on the app is standard but nothing incredible. It's functional and meets all the basic requirements with a decent value for the money spent. Ease of use is super simple. Plug into car, walk away... come back in a few hours to a fully charged vehicle.

The only catch is the charger plug is j1772... it is not the nacs standard usa plug style... so you're going to need an adapter with the newer cars, and I hate that. Otherwise all is pretty good.

Happy charging!

Awesome charger

This is an awesome charger! I love that it's nice and compact so you can hang it on your wall in your garage and it not take up tons of space or stick out like a sore thumb. It's really easy to install, it charges fast, and it has the universal connection for the car. DEWALT is a trusted brand in our family, so I knew the charger would be the high quality value that we have come to expect from them and I am so glad that I was able to get one.

Premium, Fast Level 2 Charger with Excellent Build Quality

This charger has a premium look and feel right out of the box. The build quality is excellent, and it feels durable and well designed for both indoor and outdoor installation. Once connected to a 240V circuit, charging performance is impressively fast and consistent. It delivers the kind of speed you expect from a 48A setup, making daily charging simple and efficient.

The companion app is also well done, allowing easy monitoring and customization of charging sessions. Scheduling and tracking features work smoothly, and the overall experience feels polished. Between the strong construction, reliable performance, and smart controls, this is a solid, high-quality EV charging solution.

Solid hard-wired EVSE

This 48 map EVSE unit is solidly built, as expected of a Dewalt product. The only drawback is that the J1772 connector cable is 20 feet versus 25 feet of other units. A minor issue but may be an issue for some users. This unit is connected via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and there is no screen to see settings. To be transparent I have not had this unit installed. After talking to my electric utility company and the electrician I use, we decided I would be better off having a separate service drop put in my garage. I live in a century house with a detached garage so this would be a better alternative over running an underground feed to the garage. So now I wait for the electrician, the city inspector and Ameren. Oh well.

Doesn’t even compare to the level 1 charger I was dumb enough to use

Most people are familiar with the name DEWALT - it’s pretty much synonymous with power tools and quality, or good quality power tools. So I’m not surprised DEWALT made an EV charger and not surprised they made a good one.

I just won a Tesla at my job (I work for an awesome company) so I clearly needed an EV charger. For the first couple weeks of Tesla ownership I was using a level 1 charger at first at boy wax that a mistake!

You can imagine my delight once I was able to start using this level 2 charger. Gone are to days of only getting 3 miles per hour of charge - hello 45 miles per hour of charge! This blows my junky level 1 so far out of the water it can’t ever come back. Just the improvement in charging speed has been a huge improvement and benefit for me in my life. It can be hard to remember to plug in every time you get home and even worse is having to plan outings out based on how many miles I have left and might be able to squeeze out from a charge.

Now I can set it and forget it; or really, plug it and forget it. This charger communicates with your car’s BMS (battery management system) and stops pushing and producing power once your car is at your desired level of charge; which you preset in your car or on your car’s app. So it’s nice knowing this charger isn’t still drawing power from the grid the entire time it’s plugged into my car, if I leave my car plugged in overnight and forget about it. And since it isn’t drawing or producing power, having it plugged in actually isn’t bad or damaging to the charger or my car’s battery. What a nice relief. Once your car is at your programmed charge percentage this charger goes idle.

Another included safety feature is the automatic current throttling so the charger never overheats. It doesn’t even get hot. Temperature remains consistent from no use to ongoing use. And if the ambient temperature rises this charger is still fine and still able to protect itself from overheating, Another display of quality by DEWALT. It also has ground-fault and surge protection built into it.

The cord is nice and long at 20 feet so charging can literally happen anywhere in my garage or driveway (well sort of). I don’t have to ensure I park just so for a proper connection like I did with my level 1. Each separate but connected is solid - it feels solid, durable and even after dropping it a few times all is still in perfect working order.

A final note - this DEWALT charger MUST be hardwired in. It’s not a difficult installation but I would strongly recommend NOT trying to do it yourself. It’s electricity and your home we’re talking about - if you mess it up the consequences could be fatal. Perhaps not even right away, but down the road. The potential risks are not worth saving the one time installation cost from a certified, licensed and insured electrician. Safety first. Please.

Also this charger is specifically for Teslas but if you purchase an additional attachment you can use this charger with other EV’s.

Dewalt dependability and reliability

When you see the Dewalt name you know you are getting a quality product as their brand is synonymous with reliability. They are known for power tool but have entered the EV charging game! If you have been wanting to install a charging station in your house than this is the one for you. Installation may require you to contact a professional as this is a hard wired unit and not a plug in. The unit itself looks great and I love the black and yellow color scheme as it gives it that dependability look. It’s compatible with most Teslas and its charge, storage capacity and other info can be viewed on both the LED screen and in the app. The cord is twenty feet long which gives you plenty of room depending on where you install it. If you are looking for a top quality charger that is dependable, reliable, durable and efficient this is the one for you.

Dewalt EV Charger to match your Dewalt tools

If all of your cordless tools are Dewalt, this charger is for you. Even if you don't have Dewalt tools this is a compact charger that is well built and fairly easy to install. Please note that it does not come with any wiring and you or your electrician will need to supply the wiring for this unit. Once you have it wired up it is ready to go. The app installs easily but takes almost 5 minutes to connect. Not sure why it took so long. But once it's installed it works well and gives you real-time power, voltage, and current information. Works well on Teslas as well as other J1772 cars with and extra adapter. Unit is weather sealed so there shouldn't be an issue with mounting outdoors as needed. The app and charger only work on 2.4GHz wifi so make sure you have that available.

Durable and effective.

This is a really great, high quality charger. At 48amps, it will make quick work of charging up any ev. Durable build.

The description reads that it’s hardwired, but the pictures show a ready to use plug. This definitely needs to be hardwired. It is not ready to plug in and use. Made to be an easy installation, I can clearly tell it is. However, most will want a certified electrician to do this. Functions exactly as designed. A great addition to your parking area. With the included long cord, it will be easy to organize and keep your car charged.

Rugged NEMA 3R but Expensive...

PROS:

- Extremely rugged build quality. And with the NEMA 3R rating I would have no problem mounting this outdoors. I would however, still make sure it is under cover to some extent to keep it from direct sunlight and rain. I would do this regardless for any charger. I live in the desert and I have no doubt that this would have excellent heat resistance in the hot summers, especially when at least partially covered against the weather.

- This has both Bluetooth & WiFi communications which is great if you don't want to put it onto your WiFi network. You can just connect up via Bluetooth within range of course. They both function quite well.

- Being able to schedule charging sessions is great and a must have on any new charger I would say.

- The indicator Lights are great to let you know at a glance or from a distance where you are at in the charging cycle.

- The cable is relatively flexible and seems pretty heavy duty. I just wish it was longer (see cons).

CONS:

- First of all, this is an expensive charger. You are definitely paying for the name. There are other options out there for much less.

- For the price, I would rather have seen the NACS charging standard rather than a J1772 plug. NACS really is the future, it's not just for Tesla vehicles anymore and while J1772 will be around for a while, it's days are numbered IMO.

- I had to place my charger in a bit of an odd location or retrofit some of my garage electrical. So I chose the cheaper method, the odd location. Unfortunately that means the charger is not as close to where I park my vehicle as I would like. My previous charger (which I will be going back to) has a 26ft cable. Which, for the price is what this DeWalt charger really should have had. I can barely reach the charging port of my vehicle with this charger whereas I have room to spare with my old one.

The look of this charger is hit or miss I would think. It depends if you are into the whole DeWalt theme like their shelving and all that. Although I have some of their tools, I do not display them, so I could have just lived with a standard color charger.

Installation was easy for me as I already had a 60A circuit in place which is above and beyond for any charger 40A and below that can just be plugged in. Seeing as how my old charger is a 48A and was required to be hardwired, it was only a matter of disconnecting and reconnecting a few wires. If you are using the 40A plug-in version of this charger, make sure to derate your circuit according to code and I would suggest using an EV rated receptacle.

My current charger may not have Bluetooth, but it does have WiFi which is all I really need for communication. It is also a 48A charger and can do basically everything this DeWalt charger can do but comes with a 6ft longer cable and a much lower price tag. Don't get me wrong, this is a good heavy-duty charger. It's just not a very good value IMO. Other than the DeWalt name, I am not sure why this is so expensive. This and the short cable took this down to three stars for me.
