Honestly just an incredible little lapel mic.

Honestly this is just a really solid lapel mic. I'm not entirely sure what else I could want from this thing. Definitely hitting way above its weight class in terms of sound quality for that price tag. Something that I was really surprised at is that singing, I didn't have that issue that most sound canceling stuff has where it slowly fades out on long sustained notes. I don't think that that is the purpose of this microphone, but it's nice to know that it will do a decent job capturing vocals regardless, especially as an option for your phone.. If you wanted to see what the audio quality was like in both singing and just speaking, I would check out the little video I just did. Oh, and the noise cancellation is truly insane. I drove around with it on and drove by super loud car washes and a bunch of semi-trailers and trucks and it seemed to cut them out really, really naturally and well.

DJI Mic Mini (1 TX + 1 RX) — Wanted to love it, returning it instead

I had this on my shopping list for a while and was genuinely excited to buy it — until I actually tried using it with my phone. I'm not a DJI hater writing a hit piece, but I'm also not one of the automatic 5-star reviewers. I've owned four DJI drones and gotten burned enough times to go in with eyes open. A friend who's an audiophile and runs a full DJI setup recommended it, so I gave it a shot. It's going back in the box tomorrow.

The problems:

Noise cancellation is bad. This is the big one. We tested it in a bedroom with a fan running. My voice was clear, but you could clearly hear the fan in the background. We tried adjusting the noise canceling settings, then turned it off entirely thinking it might somehow get louder — no meaningful difference. Either we got a bum unit or this thing just doesn't deliver on its headline feature.

Don't buy the mic without the receiver. Like other users have said: the transmitter alone will not work properly with your phone. If you're going to use this with an Android or iPhone, you need the receiver, period.

The receiver is the wrong size for a phone. It looks big in the product images but it's actually tiny — and it's still too big to hang off the bottom of a phone without being awkward.

The app requirement is ridiculous. You have to download the DJI Mimo app, which is roughly a gigabyte from either app store, just to unlock settings like adjusting the noise cancellation levels. And note: if you connect the transmitter to your phone over Bluetooth without the receiver, the noise canceling forcibly defaults to one mode — you don't even get a choice.

You also need a DJI account — meaning your photos, location, and other data flowing to a company that's been federally banned by the government. Check the app's own listing before you buy and you'll see the data it collects and what other users say about it.

Firmware out of the box. If you're shipping units from 2023, update the firmware before it leaves the factory. I shouldn't have to sign up for an account and download a 1GB app just to make a mic work the way it's advertised.

Everything is black. Drop the USB receiver or the mic in the grass and you're not finding it. After spending this much, losing a tiny black component basically means rebuying the kit.

The $7 comparison that ended the debate

At the same time I bought this, I also grabbed a $7 microphone kit for my daughter — two mics in the package, cheap as it gets. I'm not exaggerating: with the same fan test, the $7 kit had zero fan noise and a clear voice. The DJI let the fan right through. That's not supposed to happen with a kit costing many times more. I'm buying four more of the $7 kits — two mics per package, four sets for $28, and if you lose three of them you've still got five working mics.

I'm not the only one

Before assuming I got a defective unit, we searched YouTube and Reddit, and it turns out this is a known pattern, not bad luck:

A professional review of this exact mic line found the noise reduction has "limited impact" — the effect is "subtle, even at the stronger setting," background traffic stays clearly audible, and it can even sound processed or distorted. Their takeaway: mic placement matters more than the noise cancellation setting.

Another reviewer testing a successor model noted the earlier generation's noise cancellation produced "processing artefacts and distortion" — DJI quietly improved it on newer hardware rather than fixing the old.

Reddit users report the Mini picks up "a significant amount of background noise," with sound quality varying depending on the phone model even using the same receiver.

Other Mic Mini owners report deep voices coming through as "a low rumble accompanied by a lot of static," crackles and pops rendering videos unusable, and having to re-pair manually every single time.

One buyer who returned theirs found that using the transmitter with a phone "like advertised is hopeless," while it works fine paired with DJI's own cameras using their proprietary protocol — which is my exact suspicion about where the 5-star reviews come from.

Bottom line

If you're already in the DJI ecosystem — Osmo Pocket, Osmo Action, DJI cameras — this will probably work great with that gear and the reviews reflect that. But if you're buying this specifically to record on an Android or iPhone, look elsewhere. It's a roughly $50 hassle wrapped in a 1GB app, a mandatory account, mediocre noise cancellation, and tiny black parts you'll lose in the grass. The $7 kit beat it in a head-to-head test in my bedroom. Send it back.

Excellent Portable Wireless Mic — Great Audio With OBS and Bluetooth

I bought the DJI Mic Mini Transmitter in Infinity Black specifically to test whether such a small wireless microphone could actually replace my much larger $150 HyperX microphone. After using it with OBS, I am genuinely impressed.

Sound quality: This little microphone sounds excellent. With the right OBS filters, I was able to get a clean, full, loud voice that is surprisingly close to what I was getting from my HyperX. I included pictures of my exact OBS audio filter settings so other users can reproduce the results. My setup uses an Expander, 3-Band Equalizer, Compressor, Limiter, and +9 dB Gain.

Functionality: Bluetooth makes this extremely convenient for a wireless setup. The transmitter is tiny, lightweight, and easy to clip on and use. One important thing to know is that some of the advanced features, including the full noise-cancellation functionality, require the DJI receiver. The transmitter by itself is great for my Bluetooth use, but if you want the complete feature set, get the full kit.

Versatility: This is where the Mic Mini really won me over. I can use it for OBS, livestreaming, content creation, voice recording, and portable setups without being tied to a large desktop microphone. For me, portability is becoming much more important than having a large studio microphone sitting on my desk.

Ease of use: Setup was simple, and once I had it connected, getting it working with OBS was straightforward. The included OBS settings in my photos should also make it easier for someone else to get started without spending hours experimenting with filters.

Included accessories / battery: My only real drawback is battery management if you're using the microphone heavily. I personally recommend having two transmitters so one can stay charged while the other is being used. That's why I'm now planning to get another transmitter along with the receiver and charging case.

Color/design: I really like the Infinity Black finish. It looks clean and professional on camera and doesn't distract from the setup. The small size is also a huge advantage compared with my old HyperX.

I originally bought this transmitter just to test it, but it completely changed my mind about what I need from a microphone. I'm now getting the receiver and another unit with the charging case, and I plan to sell my HyperX because the portability and convenience of the DJI Mic Mini fit my setup much better.

My recommendation: If you're considering this for OBS, streaming, Bluetooth, PC use, content creation, or a portable wireless microphone, I absolutely recommend it. However, I'd personally skip buying only the transmitter and go directly for the full kit with the receiver and charging case.

Good Audio Quality

Title: Small, convenient, and great sound quality

I’m really happy with this microphone. It’s compact, lightweight, and very easy to use, especially for recording videos and creating content. La bolsa es de mala calidad, lo demás es bueno

No le doy 5 estrellas porque la bolsa en tela en la que vienen estos micrófonos es de pésima calidad, la he usado poco y ya falla la cremallera, es demasiado difícil abrirla y cerrarla. Por otro lado es complejo conseguir el adaptador para iPhone 13, esto para usar los dos micrófonos al tiempo.

Perfect Little Mic for Creating Content

I have been creating more video content lately and wanted something simple that I could easily use with my phone. I am really happy with the DJI Mic Mini. Everything fits neatly in the charging case, it is small enough to take anywhere, and I love having the option to either clip the mic onto my shirt or use the magnetic attachment. Connecting it to my phone was simple, and the mic itself is so lightweight that I barely notice I am wearing it. Having two microphones is also a huge plus when I want to film with someone else. Such a great addition to my content creation setup!

My New Favorite Piece of Equipment
