By far my favorite DJI purchase to date. This gimbal has helped open a door to doing content in a different way as well as professional work.

The future is now, did you hear that

I've never used one of these lol, always been poor and recorded like good old days without all this tech which is very useful, I feel like a lil kid with a new toy considering I've always recorded without any gimbal, just my hand balance. I haven't found any problem with it yet. It's not heavy, if you go to the gym often, but if you don't, maybe it's a tad heavy for you. Haven't tested battery life, I'll be updating.

Update: Battery life is ok, its battery life isn't 13 hours as advertised, I turn it off and on constantly, maybe that's the reason (? Idk, but it shouldn't anyways

Awesome gimbal that's fun to use, balancing is a bit involved

I've been using this gimbal for several months now and have largely found it to be excellent, but I do have some complaints with it. To start, it's very smooth and has a ton of adjustments for dialing in just the right movement speeds. It's also reasonably lightweight and the battery life is solid. I find it harder to balance than the FeiyuTech Scorp I have, but the Scorp is considerably larger (and smoother), but the RS4 Mini is very comparable. I also think the build quality is better on the FeiyuTech and this being my first DJI gimbal, I was a little surprised by how cheap some of the plastic feels. It has been durable and I haven't had any issues, but I think the creaky plastics could be considerably better. It was pretty easy getting it connected to my phone, but the process of balancing the gimbal is involved and DJI's tutorial videos are terrible; they're super slow to load and seek around and just generally not good to use. I also didn't like how they used a proprietary quick-release plate which meant I had to buy an aftermarket Falcam part in order to use my standard ARCA quick-release plates with it. Again, not a huge deal but compatibility would've been nice out of the box. For all of my complaints though, it's an excellent gimbal and works really well. Due to the size, this is usually the one I grab and I use it both with my Lumix camera and my phone, so it's fairly versatile. I think there's some room for improvement in the next version, but it's still an awesome gimbal and well worth it if you shoot a lot of video and want professional looking movements.

The gimbal works very smooth and it's providing me with really nice shots. It didn't and now I can't control my sony a6700 camera's ISO and similar settings through the gimbal. I don't like that kind of surprises. I'm kind of disappointed this time cuz the incomplete device I received.

Privacy issues

There are several issues with this gimbal.

First, you HAVE TO register with the company in order to use the gimbal. This ought to be illegal if it isn't.

Second, the combo doe not come with a cellphone clamp, you will have to buy that separately but you may not want to because...

Third, the gimbal is HUGE. I thought it was competition for Crane M3S which is tiny compared to this gimbal.

Fourth, it is not compatible with the DJI Focus Pro Motor. I would think at this size same as Weebil-s that it would. Zhiyun's gimbal comes with a focus motor and cellphone holder and wireless image transmitter in one particular package and is the same size as DJI's "mini".

Fifth, INFLUENCERS (ugh) claim the gimbal is convenient as at the press of the button the gimbal folds up and then they "throw it into a backpack". It's WAY too big to fit horizontally on top of my backpack. Because of the awkward shape caused by the lower quick release plate you can't easily carry it vertically either, I would have to take so much gear out to accommodate its awkward shape it's not worth it.

*******************update***************************

I just discovered that in order to register the gimbal you need to connect it to a smartphone, download the app and register it and download firmware. What happens if you don't have a smartphone? Well, I guess you can't use the gimbal! Frustrating and offensive considering how invasive their privacy policies are. Just about the best thing that can happen to companies like this is to be banned from USA etc., until they revise their polies and start serving customers instead of dictating to them!

Bought as new, sent used and not operational.

The product was loosely sent in box. The box was already opened. Inside of box was damaged because product was bouncing freely inside. The gimbal was already registered to someone because it did not prompt you through the normal DJI start up prompts.

Stable, easy to set up, works with D7500 DSLR

I'm very happy with this gimbal.

It's stable, lightweight, and easy to operate.

The size is relatively compact considering the heavy payload it can accomodate.

The build quality is excellent and tbe battery life is good.

Setup was easy using the extensive online tutorial videos.

It accommodates a payload up to 2kg. It works well with my Nikon D7500 DSLR, which weighs 985g with a normal lens. Note, to start recording on my D7500 using the trigger button on the gimbal or using the app, I had to purchase a separate third-party cable. You can find the cable by searching for "cable rss dc2 nikon".

The app provides lots of useful functionality such as remote-control pointing, time lapse, and panorama.

Excellent small gimbal. My new favorite.

This is my fourth gimbal. I have a Zhiyun Crane M2, which is a small gimbal, a Moza Aircross 2 and a FeiyuTech SCORP Mini-2.

This RS4 mini is now my favorite. First of all, it can handle my Canon EOS R and a 24-70 f/2.8L, while still being a small gimbal. This is unheard of. It will NOT handle the EOS R with the battery grip or any of my EOS 1Dx series of camera bodies, not because of the weight, but because of the height.

It can handle any load up to 2Kg, or 4.4 pounds. That is a LOT for a gimbal of this size. One of the best features is the auto lock on off function. This stores the entire setup when you turn the gimbal off. See my video. VERY COOL and very useful.

It can also work with a cell phone (with a cell phone mount - not included in this non-combo kit).

I purchased the autotrack accessory, and will review this separately, but spoiler alert: IT IS FANTASTIC.

The GUI is very intuitive, especially if you've used any DJI gimbal before. The unit is a space grey, which is not the norm for gimbals. My previous gimbals are either black or white. Not a big deal for me, but some people don't care for a grey gimbal.

I have also used the RS4 Mini with the Canon RF 16mm f/2.8, and this makes for a VERY small, lightweight, but VERY capable and flexible setup.

All in all, this is a GREAT piece of kit, and I highly recommend it.

Best compact camera gimbal

Works like charming with my Sony A7R3+24-70mm f2.8 lens. Fairly easy to establish the balance, and created smoothest videos at the professional level. Literally the best camera gimbal I've ever used.

Must have for content creators

As a videographer, I love gimbals. I'll compare this to my old RS3 mini. This RS4 Mini gimbal is an impressive piece of equipment for content creators. Weighing the same as its predecessor at 880g but maintaining a solid 2kg payload capacity, this stabilizer offers significant upgrades. The automatic locking system is a game-changer, allowing both complete shutdown for storage and a quick neutral mode for temporary pauses. I particularly appreciated the color touchscreen on the handle and the significantly improved battery life: 30% longer than the RS3 Mini with fast charging capabilities. Switching to vertical shooting mode was remarkably simple, requiring just a knob twist and button push.

Pros:

- Convenient automatic axis locks for both storage and quick pauses

- Excellent battery performance with 30% longer life and quick charging

- Simple one-handed transition to vertical shooting mode

Cons:

- Still relatively heavy at 880g for extended handheld shooting

- Maximum 2kg payload may limit use with heavier camera/lens combinations

- No Intelligent Tracking Module included (extra $69)

Nice features

Gimbal is a great starter gimbal and supports small cameras. You do need to get the combo kit or buy the intelligent camera module to make this gimbal work better. I used it on a shoot with a fx30 with a small lens and I tried it with an a7iv with a cage and 24-70f2.8 lens and it struggle a bit mostly because of the cage. But without the cage, the lens and camera works fine with the gimbal. It does have some nice new features similar to the pro line of the gimbals like teflon to make it smoother when adjusting balance.

In order for this to work, you are required to install an app on your phone

Let me preface this with I am not a professional photographer.

I got this because I volunteer with an organization, and they had a gimbal that they were able to use a couple of years ago, and it kind of upped the quality/professionalism of some of the media they were able to create at events, but all of that media was still created by non professionals. Usually kids really. The person that had it has since moved on, so we no longer have access to one.

I have thought about getting one ever since. And recently got a much better camera than just a cellphone for much the same reason.

So I am pretty excited to try this out, and see what it can do, but it is the first gimbal I am purchasing and that is the context in which it will be used. Used by non professionals to give more variety in what they can create.

Taking it out of the box, assembly was quite straight forward. When I used the one from the org I work with before, it had already been set up by someone else, so I actually was not aware, in any way, of what I needed to do to make this work. I attached the tripod portion no problem, but then I wasn’t really sure how everything else attached. There was no manual.

I tried turning it on a couple of times, with nothing attached, and it would just kind of error out.

I searched for the model number online, and came across a video, from the company, with detailed instructions.

I am using this, at least initially, with a Sony ZV-1 II camera. I expect most of the time, it will be used by others, with various mobile phones. In attaching the camera bracket to the ZV-1, I actually had a bit of a problem. The bracket has a small lip that wraps around the edge of the camera to hold it stable in place. On this particular camera, that lip interferes/intersects with the lens of the camera The camera is really compact, and the lens goes very close to the edge of the camera. I was able to make it work, but the bracket is not perfectly straight on the camera.

After this, I was able to attach the camera. I then followed the instructions in the video for balancing the whole setup (physically adjusting and moving things around) with the camera installed. The instructions were pretty good, and since it was my first time setting up any gimbal, I am actually glad I had a video to follow, rather than trying to figure it out from a manual.

Once everything was balanced, the Gimbal could turn on, and not error out. The first time I tried it, it still stuttered a bit when moved quickly, but a bit more tweaking and everything seems pretty smooth now.

As I will definitely be using it, or others will be using it with mobile phones, it would have been nice to have a mobile phone attachment with it, but it doesn’t come with one. I have several already that I can use, but it would have been nice to have one included.

The fit and finish seems nice. The build quality seems nice. The user interface seems easy to use, but I honestly do not have enough hands on time with it yet to have discovered any pitfalls. I will update the review once I do.

Lastly though, to add insult to injury with not having a phone mount included, is to actually use it, you need to install an app on your phone. By not including the phone mount, they are clearly indicating you don’t need a phone to use this, because you can use it with just a camera, but actually you do need a phone to use it. You don’t actually need a phone to use it, but it is required you install their app on your phone to use it. Why? This is a trend I am not too keen on. It happened with another product I purchased recently. If I do not need a phone to use a product, why am I required to install an app on a phone to use a product? Really, the only reason the app needs to be installed on my phone is so they can get information about me. There is no other reason. Once they have that information, the app does not need to be installed anymore. I should not have to install an app to use a product that does not need the app to operate. It would be like saying you need to own a phone and install an app on it to start your car, or you need a phone, to turn on your TV. The two things are not related.

I have a real issue with this. I have no qualms with installing an app on my phone to make my experience with a product better. For example, I have no problem installing an app on my phone to get data out of my fitbit, but I would have a problem with my fitbit being completely disabled if I didn’t install their app on my phone.

The very least they could have done if they were going to require their app to be installed on my phone to use their product, is to actually give me the phone mount that would have allowed me to actually use the phone with their product, but you have to pay extra for that.

Excellent gimbal!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Compact, Powerful, and Perfect for Content Creators!

The DJI RS 4 Mini is an absolute game-changer for anyone who shoots video, whether you're a professional filmmaker or a content creator looking to level up your footage. I've used a variety of gimbals over the years, but this one stands out for its perfect balance of portability, performance, and ease of use.

Key Features That Make It Exceptional:

✅ Lightweight & Compact: At just under 2 lbs, the RS 4 Mini is incredibly portable without compromising on stability. It’s perfect for travel, vlogging, and run-and-gun shooting.

✅ Smooth & Professional Stabilization: DJI’s advanced 3-axis stabilization keeps footage ultra-smooth, even when walking, running, or panning quickly. Perfect for dynamic shots!

✅ Impressive Payload Capacity: Despite its small size, it supports up to 4.4 lbs, making it compatible with a wide range of mirrorless cameras and lenses.

✅ Easy One-Touch Controls: The ergonomic grip and intuitive controls allow for quick adjustments on the fly. Switching between modes is effortless, saving time on set.

✅ Long-Lasting Battery Life: With up to 10 hours of runtime, I can shoot all day without worrying about recharging. Plus, it supports fast charging via USB-C!

✅ Wireless & Wired Shutter Control: I love the Bluetooth shutter control, which lets me wirelessly start/stop recording without touching the camera. Super convenient!

✅ Quick Release System: The redesigned quick-release plates make balancing the camera fast and easy, a huge plus for anyone who swaps gear frequently.

Final Verdict:

The DJI RS 4 Mini is hands-down one of the best compact gimbals on the market. It delivers pro-level stabilization, lightweight portability, and excellent battery life, making it a must-have for filmmakers, vloggers, and content creators alike. If you’re looking for top-tier performance in a small package, this is the gimbal to get!

🔥 Highly recommended! 🔥

Amazing!

Awesome! Absolutely amazing quality. It carries my M50 with a SmallRig cage on it and performs really well. The battery on the gimbal lasts plenty long, more than a couple hours, especially inching up on the payload limit. The gimbal is made out of really high quality materials, and seems it will last a long time in the field!

Excellent stability, mediocre documentation plus a few functional issues

The Good

The DJI RS 4 Mini gimbal is listed as supporting a camera weight of 2 kg, or 4.4 lbs. I am using a Nikon mirrorless camera and lens with the gimbal. The camera and lens are listed as supported by the gimbal and together weigh 4 lbs. The gimbal has had no trouble providing a stable platform for the camera and lens, regardless of normal hand-held motion. The resulting video is very good from a stability standpoint. The DJI controls are easy to access, and you can change the reaction sensitivity of the gimbal and for the control joystick.

Once this gimbal is set up and operational it does a great job providing stable video from any of several different positions when handholding the gimbal. With my 4 lb. camera and lens mounted on the gimbal, the gimbal is still relatively easy to hold and maneuver. The switches on either side of the gimbal and the joystick are all easy to reach as needed when filming. I spent the better part of a day outdoors using the gimbal off and on and there was still more than 70 percent battery life left at the end of the day.

I’m rating this gimbal 3-1/2 to 4 stars on the performance of the gimbal once set up, but there are several items that should be improved as noted below.

The Bad

So far, operating my camera from the gimbal controls is a dud. The Nikon camera and lens I’m using are listed as supporting several features when using the USB-C cable between the camera and gimbal (fewer features are listed as supported if Bluetooth is used instead of a cable.) However, starting and stopping the video on the Nikon camera works from the DJI, but I’ve not been able to set the focus, take a photo, set aperture, shutter or ISO, all of which are called out as supported features for the camera I am using. It is possible that only one of these features can be used at a time, but so far, none work. The specific setup instructions for my Nikon camera are poor. The video shows how to connect the cable, but the “Setup Method” for the cable indicate the camera should be set to “Live View”, except mirrorless cameras are always in “Live View”, and the focus should be set to AF and AF-S. AF-S might work if the focus could be set from the DJI, but otherwise only works for a stationary subject where the distance from the camera to the subject changes very little. I’ve had the best results so far setting the focus mode to AF-F, then initially setting the focus and subject using the cameras shutter button. The AF-F method relies on the camera to maintain the focus on the subject but can lose focus if the subject moves out of the frame quickly or an intervening object comes between the camera and the subject. (The Intelligent Tracking Module might help with this but is not included with the gimbal package I have.)

The Quick Start instruction sheet for the gimbal contains very little information – it instead points you to the DJI Ronin phone app. The app has links to several videos, including “Beginner Guide” and “First Use” videos. There is no paper or video diagram that labels the various locks and controls on the gimbal. There are other videos for “Buttons”, “DJI Ronin App”, and “iTouchscreen Menu”, but it is quite tedious to go back and find the videos and then search through it to find out what function is provided by a button. There are six locks associated with the gimbal, three for adjusting the gimbal, and three for locking the arms in place. The “First Use” video does not do a good job of showing which lock is being locked or unlocked and is quite confusing the first time you view it. There is also no indication when you should first turn on the gimbal. All of this becomes clearer after using the gimbal for a while, but I was concerned I might accidentally break something before I figured out what steps I should use. I was eventually able to find a link and view the DJI RS 4 and RS 4 Pro manuals on the DJI site via a Google search but never did find a way to navigate to them using the DJI website. There does not appear to be a manual for the DJI RS 4 Mini, which would have been useful.

One other poor design choice is the locking direction for the adjustable quick release plate (the plate with the adjustment knob.) When locked, it points straight back about 3/4-inch, limiting the room the how far back the other plate can be adjusted without contacting the second arm on the gimbal. I’m not sure if the lock rotation is adjustable – nothing is mentioned anywhere about this issue – but there is a torx-style bolt holding the handle but loosening that bolt did not provide any adjustment affecting where the lock arm ends up.
