Major upgrade from my ronin m I used many years ago!

Ordered it brand new and came completely beat up, literally the tilt motor was broken off with screws hardly holding it together. And this was from the official DJI Store. Insane. Also, I ordered this one because my last one had a fatal software flaw after like 6 months. Can't recommend.

After proper balancing, I tested the RS 4 Pro with my FX3 + 20–70mm lens. Even with only slight movements, the tilt axis consistently fails to return to level and starts drifting. I recalibrated multiple times and followed all setup steps, but the issue remained. For a gimbal at this price point, this kind of performance is unacceptable. I have to return it and recommend other buyers test their unit carefully upon arrival.

Bought the DJI RS 4 Pro Combo to film my puppy, and I’m seriously impressed. Setup was easy, stabilization is rock solid, and the battery just keeps going through long walks and play sessions.
What I really like is the modular design: you don’t have to learn or use every advanced feature from day one. You can start with basic stabilization and then gradually add more functions and accessories as your skills grow.
One warning, though: this thing works so well that it’s dangerous for your wallet. Once you see how smooth your footage looks, you’ll start eyeing every possible add-on “for just a bit more creative flexibility" :-)

Ok so this gimbal is able to handle a lot of load, for reference in the video I have the Sony A7iv in a smallrig cage, the Sigma 24-70 II, a smallrig mini matte box with a 4x5 uv filter, smallrig vb99pro, and the mke 400 shotgun mic and it handles all that well. The handle that comes with it definitely gets the job done, however it is not as robust and innovative as third party offerings. The vertical mounting system is good and balancing the gimbal gets easier the more you do it. You are definitely gonna need to do a bit of setting up to register your gimbal once you power it on but it’s relatively easy. Comes with all the wires u’ll need… the gimbal itself can start feeling a bit heavy after extended shooting so you’ll definitely want to get some strap of some kind for support.. also the automatic lock and unlock feature is sooo good, plus looks so kool lol.. also if you use alot of autofocus lenses the honestly you can just get the combo package. Don’t get caught into the marketing like I have. The pro kit was just overkill for what I do. All in all great product. Battery life is hood not great, but once you balance and calibrate your gimbal it can last a good while.

I upgraded from the RS2 Pro, I definitely had an easier time putting on my cinema zoom lens on the gimbal, and love how it locks up when you turn it off. I recently used the vertical mode and felt easy to switch out the plate.

I was in need of some serious video stabilization equipment, so I decided to buy this dji gimble, and I must say, I made a great decision. Check the video out and see how stable it made my video. Its definitely worth the money, great performance. The weight of the gimble is manageable and it's easy to use once you get the hang it. I love the automatic locking feature for when the gimbal isn't calibrated!
This is actually my first time using a gimble and everything worked out perfectly!

I'm used several other gimbals prior to this one and so far, this is my favorite. This gimbal has a nice carbon fiber look to it, and I like the color scheme with the black and red.
This kit comes with everything you'll need for a mirrorless camera setup. You get plenty of USB cables to connect to your camera and if you have one of the more modern and popular mirrorless cameras this gimbal will control it fairly well. You can check their camera compatibility list to see what features are available for your particular camera. I picked up this gimbal specifically to control my Sony FX3, and pretty much immediately after connecting it I was able to start and stop recording with the gimbal buttons.
Now we get to the 'complicated' part. To really use this gimbal, you must activate it. To activate it you must use the smart device app (Android in my case). However, due to 'reasons', you can no longer get the app from the Google Play store. For me this was a big deal as I cannot side-load to my phone because of security settings for my job. This required me to use my kid's Fire tablet. That being said, it wasn't too difficult to sideload the app and then use it to activate the gimbal. With the app you get more control over the camera connected to the gimbal. You can also use one of the mount points on the gimbal to mount your tablet/phone. I chose not to do this with a Fire tablet as it was too bulky. I also found that the Sony app was MUCH better for controlling/viewing my FX3 than the DJI app.
The two main differentiators in my mind are the swappable battery (handle) and the auto (un)locking axis' of the gimbal. In a close third is the quick release for switching between landscape and portrait mode. This is a great gimbal and I'm happy to have it. My only real gripe is the forced sideloading and usage of the app.
Battery charges at 30-watt rate.
Pros
- Auto-(un)lock of Axis'
- Wide camera compatibility
- Makes you look 'professional'
- Lots of expandability options
- Swappable battery
Cons
- App REQUIRED to activate/use gimbal (must be sideloaded from DJI, NOT in app stores)
- Larger/heavier than competing gimbals I compared

I've been using an DJI Osmo Mobile 6 with my phone for a while, but I wanted something similar for my DSLR camera and this fit the bill. I was very impressed with the quality and function. I'm pretty new to gimbal stabilizers, but this is a whole new level. I’m already looking for accessories! I have only used this on a few occasions but I look forward to using all the capabilities of this gimbal. Once I spend more time using it, I'll update my review.

WThere were bubbles on the surface of the product, which did not affect its use, but I was unsure if it would cause me problems in the future. It seems like a good deal for now
UPDATE
Definitely buy this type of equipment from B&H or Adorama.

If you’ve been a gimbal user for some time, and from all of your experience had dreamed of the ideal gimbal, the DJI RS 4 Pro just might be it. To be sure, the purpose of a gimbal is straightforward enough, that is, to hold the camera steady and smooth out the movements of the operator. And if you’re familiar with balancing a gimbal, any gimbal, then you understand the basic requirements of balancing any other gimbal, including the DJI Ronin RS 4 Pro Stabilizer.
Setting aside specific needs, what differentiates one gimbal from another? Well, ease of use, technology, methods of control, app features, etc. Although I own one of DJI’s small, Osmo mobile phone gimbals, this is the first Ronin professional Gimbal I’ve owned. It is replacing a gimbal I’ve been using for about 5 years that has been a beast, and was, at the time of purchase, an industry leader, especially in its payload size. It’s also what I have by way of comparison.
I can best characterize my first impression of the DJI Ronin RS 4 Pro as shock and awe; shock in the 5+ plus year leap in gimbal technology that came immediately to light and my awe of it. I understand that the RS 4 has evolved from earlier models of Ronin gimbals, but I haven’t been evolving along with them. If I’d kept a wish list of everything I’d like to see in a gimbal, the RS 4 Pro would more than cover it, since they thought of things I didn’t.
Ease of use? Amazing, Technology? Beyond my current needs. Features? A rich array of them. In terms of the ease of use, once you get familiar with its unique knobs, locks and sliding control arms, the RS 4 Pro makes balancing as quick and as precise as I’ve experienced; precise balance is the nucleus around which gimbal performance is optimized.
Balancing the RS 4 Pro is similar to any gimbal, except the scale calibrated Teflon coated Carbon Fiber control arms slide more easily, as do the bearings on the roll axis; precision balance comes right down to a millimeter either way. What is wonderfully convenient is the ability to fine tune the tilt axis with a knurled knob that adjusts the center of gravity of the camera QR plate, allowing for a perfect balance in that orientation. The entire camera mounting plate has a QR for a simple, convenient and quick switch from horizontal to vertical. Once all of the axis’s are balanced, you can then auto tune the motors via the app, the OLED screen or by holding down the trigger and M button at the same time. Clicking the trigger twice re-centers the gimbal. Furthermore, there is a balance test on the home page of the Gimbals large and clear OLED touch screen; tilt the RS 4 Pro 15-degrees in each direction and a bar graph will tell you if the gimbal is optimally balanced, or not. Between the tools available on the gimbal itself and those of the app, a perfect balance of each axis for optimum performance is made possible. Fine tuning of every aspect of each motor individually along with the joystick, including the creation of a user profile to save settings, is possible from the app.
Every aspect of the gimbal axis’s movements is solid and sure; there is no play when in movement or when locked down. The auto-locking of the control arms is another special feature and when activated, clicks rigidly into place and puts the gimbal in sleep mode. The gimbals movements can be locked/unlocked with one click of the power button or from the app. When locked, a moon figure will show on the OLED that by tapping will unlock and wake the Stabilizer.
Menu items are accessed on the touchscreen by up/down and sideways swipes and provide access to most of the gimbal settings, including follow speed, custom movements, sport mode, enabling/disabling each axis individually, and motor torque. Physical buttons, that also provide shortcuts, include a mode selection switch, Joystick, shutter release, programmable dial and “M” button, and on/off. There is also a joystick mode switch for switching between gimbal movement and zoom control. Access to all important adjustments and modes are available directly from the physical gimbal. There are also contacts and NATO ports on each side of the gimbal for attaching accessories. Through the app, you can allow control of the RS 4 Pro with a gaming controller, or it can even be programed to follow the movements of a cell phone.
The DJI RS 4 Pro represents the matrix of an evolved cinematic eco-system, and the obvious culmination of DJI’s experience producing gimbals, along with their keen interest in user feedback. In fact, if you don’t anticipate needing access to the associated eco-system, there are less expensive models of the RS 4 to consider. On the other hand, if you do anticipate growth that may need wider access, I would suggest taking a look at the DJI RS 4 Pro Combo kit. The Combo kit includes DJI’s Raveneye Image Transmitter for monitoring and a Focus Motor for controlling focus from the RS 4’s dial; additional motors can be added for the iris and zoom, and controlled with the RS 4 Pro. The kit also included camera connection cables that are not included in the non-kit version. Buying included items as a combo kit does provide a cost savings and the basis of a highly expandable system; it’s a good value.
Another suggestion is to become familiar with the RS 4 Pros capabilities and features by taking advantage of DJIs comprehensive library of tutorial videos available on their website or right from the DJI Ronin app.; the RS 4 Pro is so rich in features that one could easily remain unaware of something that could enhance your workflow. After that, practice, practice, and practice. And if you plan on taking advantage of the RS 4 Pros sensational maximum payload of 10 lbs., for a combined weight of 17 lbs. including the gimbal itself, start doing pushups.
To sum up the DJI RS 4 Pro in a word: Wow. I honestly can’t think of anything that could be improved or that I would criticize. DJI seems to have thought of everything I could wish for in a Gimbal, taking full advantage of current technology with a real insight into user needs.

The DJI Ronin RS 4 Pro gimbal stabilizer will allow you to walk around with your camera while shooting video and keep it as stable as possible. It is basically an active steadycam mount.
The Pro model has up to a 10lb camera payload, while the regular RS 4 (non-pro) only has a 6lb payload (but costs less).
The stabilization worked great, allowing me to do a full tilt run while filming. The resulting shot was clearly hand-held, but it was extremely stable and smooth (although I struggled to keep my target in frame while running, this was user error, and not a problem with the DJI Pro 4).
When walking at a fast clip it almost completely removes camera shake, and while standing the resulting video looks like it was shot from a tripod.
It also has other features such as shooting automatic panorama grids, remote control of the camera gimbal from your phone, and programmed tracking shots.
There were only two things I didn't like.
1) You are required to activate the RS4 pro using the Ronin app and a DJI Account to be able to use the hardware. Also, you MUST install the Ronin app from the DJI website directly, and it is NOT in the Google Play Store.
2) My older Sony A6300 camera required an extra cable that I had to buy so that I could use the shutter control for panarama photos. (So check the DJI website and plug in your camera model before you buy to see what cable you need).
Other than the two minor complaints above, I was EXTREMELY happy with this stabilizing gimbal and recommend it for all handheld videography. [If you don't need the full 10lb payload, the RS 4 (not pro) may also fit your needs at a lower price point.]
