Love it

So when I bought my house, the garage door and opener were 20 yrs old, but the person hadn’t used them because they didn’t drive. But anyway, the wireless portion with the remotes went out and I didn’t want to call a repair man. I didn’t want a new garage. You know how that goes.

Anyway, I got one of these things. I did some maintenance on my garage took my time hooking this thing up. Did it professionally worked like a charm the first time I feel like I have a new garage. Assuming it keeps working, I’m really happy came with a bunch of hardware and stuff hooked up really quickly. It’s working flawlessly through the app pretty excited.

Convenient Smart Home Upgrade

Installation was straightforward, and the app was easy to set up. I like being able to check and control my garage door remotely, especially when I'm away from home. The alerts provide added peace of mind, and the smart home integration worked well. It's a practical upgrade that adds both convenience and security.

Garbage.

I’d give this a zero if I could. I tried installed and red LED won’t even come on.

Works reliably, easy to install, easy to setup .... no more remote roulette

Purchased this eKyro Smart Garage Door Opener after being completely frustrated with all the standard remotes for my older Craftsman door opener. Pushing, pushing, pushing the open button on the standard remote is like gambling; occasionally it works but usually not.

The eKyro unit was very easy to install on the motor unit and setup on my wireless network. I screwed a small plastic plate to my opener and mounted the eKyro receiver with double-sided tape so the antenna would be unimpeded and pointed right at my wireless router.

Wiring it to the older opener was easy; it uses the same terminals as the manual buttons and the response is just as fast. Using the manual terminals also makes it compatible, reliable, no delay, every time, no more remote roulette.

The door open/closed sensor adds a safety factor to this older opener. I can check the status from my phone and there is a feature to alert me if the door has been open for an extended time.

The SmartLife app (Android) is easy to use and does the job...but LOTS of ads and wasted display space (app only gets 4 stars). Connecting the app (phone) to the opener was quick and there is almost no delay when opening/closing the garage door.

Overall, the eKyro Smart Garage Door Opener solved my problems. Recommend.

After using this opener for a while I also purchased a 4-pack of the eKyro smart plugs that I now use to control an attic fan and various fans and lights in the house. Controlling everything from my phone is very convenient and reliable and the various programmable/timer functions make sure I don't forget to turn things off.

All the eKyro devices have only been installed for a few months at the time of this review, so can't comment on long term reliability. So far everything works as advertised and I'm pretty satisfied with the function and added convenience.

NOTE: I have an older Google Nest Mini but haven't tried using it yet, so can't comment on compatibility. Might try that next......

Very smart and functional garage door opener

One day I was away from my home and the garage door opened itself. I was shocked because my home was totally wild open when I got home. So I purchased the smart garage door opener, it’s a fantastic decision I made recently! Easy to assemble and program. The guide videos are very helpful~ I can control and monitor my garage door all the time wherever I am! Occasionally the app notice would make me confused. The notice shows door is closed and opened at the same time. Or the image shows door is opened; but door is closed actually.

Awesome product and exceptional customer service!

Great product! Ingenious idea to help my old memory which occasionally forgets to close the garage door! eKyro customer service is exceptional. They provided immediate response when I put in the request for an adapter since my Liftmaster needed one. I had trouble figuring out where to install the sensors with my old door which fits really close to the walls in my garage. I reached out to them again and they sent multiple photos showing how other customers hooked up their systems. And one of them was the perfect solution for my garage. Now I am all set and the system works perfectly. Awesome!

Helpful for managing garage door (with limits)

It is nice knowing if the garage door is open and having the ability to close it, especially if away from home. The detection is a bit touchy, take care aligning the sensor (magnet/metal) and securing it tight so no movement (e.g. wind blowing on door).

The Smart Home app is problematic. It appears it is a 3rd party app to work with this device. Note the "automations" (Arrive home, open garage door, leave home close garage door, etc) in the apps are bugged. They have not worked reliably (hardly ever) since purchasing this eKyro Smart Garage Door opener.

Today we had another incident (prompting this feedback) because it is a safety issue. At 0359 am local, the automation opened the garage door while we were sleeping... confirmed with Unifi garage camera. This should have never happened. The good news is, the automation to keep the door shut at night activated minutes later like it was supposed to. Of course, the problem is it should never have opened in the first place.

The automations in the app rarely work when you want them to, and then do stuff like the above... keep that in mind. You may want to skip using automations, except maybe the keep door closed at night (or all the time), combined with a small delay like 10 minutes to give time for you to clear the area (like bringing groceries in). P.S. numerous contacts made to the Smart Life app but no progress fixing the automation issues despite screenshots and logs.

Very easy install for older Chamberlin opener

Worked great with my very old garage door opener, I already use the Smart Life app so it was an easy set up. Recomended this product!

Works for sliding driveway gate opener

Our driveway slide gate sometimes refused to open unless the remote was right next to the antenna of the gate operator. Maybe a neighbor or utility has equipment that jams our signal, but whatever the cause it is inconvenient.

The gate operator is a Chamberlain SL3000UL controlled by a Liftmaster 312HM radio set for Momentary output duration as demonstrated by performing the jumper test (described in the eKyro manual) on the Relay terminals.

The garage door opener is designed for indoor use. The controller head unit is sheltered by the housing of the gate opener, but the sensor and its cabling need weatherproofing . For that purpose, a short piece of mountain bike inner tube through which the sensor and its wire were threaded most of the way worked. (For harsher environments a more robust housing for the sensor and wire would be warranted.) The vacant part of the tube was folded over an angle bracket and secured with zip ties as shown in the photo. The magnet was attached to chain bracket using the provided adhesive patch and some longer zip ties I provided and then covered with a small piece of tape. The angle bracket was positioned so the sensor was near the magnet and secured.

The head unit was secured to the outside of the operator control board housing using the supplied adhesive patch. The operator has a three prong 120VAC socket, but the clearance under the cover is less than 1/2". To use that socket, a NUTITC Flat Extension Cord was connected to the head unit cord. The control wires were connected to the Relay terminals of the radio unit.

Now the gate can be remotely operated even if the radio cannot detect the signal from the remote.

Money well spent

Worth every penny! Was having issues with our remotes not closing our door due to interference but this solved the problem. Turns your phone into a remote that works anywhere. The only potential issue is the open/close button on the phone app is very close to where you swipe to close the app. You could possibly hit the button on accident. If they could update the app and move the button more to the center of the phone or make you hold it for a couple seconds to activate it, that would be great!

Easy to install but read the instructions first

Excellent product! Even though my 2009 Liftmaster model was not on the website's compatibility list, there is an easy way to test to be sure it will work before you order. As others have suggested, download the app first and connect it to your network in the house so you can test it. As you can see in the photos, I chose NOT to use the supplied adhesive tape and zip-tied the module to the bracket instead. And since the mechanism for the track is in a housing, I ran the sensor cable down the top using the clips (see pic) rather than on the ceiling as others have done. The sensor cable is plenty long for those that decide to mount the sensor on the left or right of the door. I chose the center and neatly wrapped up the extra cable. Be sure to find a good spot for the sensor and magnet before you start. The magnet can be 1/4" away from the sensor and still work. Too close and the door may hit the sensor when opening/closing. I drilled two small pilot holes in the top of the door and screwed it on directly (see pic). There's plenty of supplied hardware in case you need it and am very pleased.

Works great and easy installation. App could be better.

Great product. Installation is very straight forward (just connect wires to the wall control terminal of my Genie garage door controller) and it comes with wire clips, sticky pads, mount hardware for various way to mount the sensor. Pairing was easy. The hardest part was to find a good location to mount the sensor. One feedback I have for future improvement is to change the location of the open/close door button in the Smart Life app. Currently the button is at the bottom exactly where you would swipe up to close the app on iphone. This leads to several times I accidentally open/close the door when I try to swipe up to close the app.

Works well. Needs a bit of time to get network connection to work, but great once it's connected.

Works great! Totally worth the price and install took a couple of hours.

I have two adjacent garage doors, so I ordered two units. You can control both doors in the same SmartLife app, with the ability to open or close either door, and see if either is open or closed. Just choose the door you want. You can also allow a second person to use the controller. Just Google "How to invite someone to share SmartLife app."

Expect some frustration during network setup, as with most remote-control apps. In my case, one of the two units just would not connect after many tries. But when I tried the other unit, it immediately connected and then the other one linked right away.

Don't give up on the SmartLife software. It'll take a few tries, but you'll get it to work!

Wiring up your opener is easy. Just attach the red & black wires from the controller to the two terminals on your garage door opener that go to the 'open and close' push button mounted on the wall of your garage; the one you use to open and close the door. Follow the wire from the button on the wall to your opener; those two terminals are the open/close connections. (The other two connections on the opener go to the electric eye; you don't need to touch those wires.)

Then, extend the long black wire that comes out of the controller to the magnet switch. Mount the switch to the garage door FRAME next to the garage door. Mount the accompanying magnet on the garage door itself, making sure (by looking at the app) that the magnet is close enough to activate the switch, but moves out of the way when the door goes up (see photos). Works within about 3/4" of each other.

Could use this device for anything that needs 'dry contacts' and which could also tell you, remotely, whether a switch is open or closed. Great little device!

Amazing Product

My neighbor and I were talking the other day about home security. He gave me a tour of all the stuff he had for home security. One thing that really caught my attention was his ability to open and close his garage door remotely as well as check the status of the door. Everything came in one box, smaller than I expected. I opted to program and install the unit via their instruction videos. I had no problem setting up the unit to my wifi, installation was very straight forward following the video. Once the door was working via the HomeLife app I then proceeded to program the unit to work with siri. The only issue I had was I was telling "Hey siri, open the garage door". It wasn't working because I had entered the phrase " Hey siri open garage door". The video instructs you that the phrase you say has to be exactly as the one entered in the Shortcuts app. Once I omitted the word "the", it worked great however there is a slight delay before the unit activates, approximately 2 seconds. If something doesn't work go back and review the videos, they are very thorough!

I am extremely happy with this product, my wife is over the moon. I would highly recommend

Basically, as a remote, garage door opener, it works. The extra features, not so much.

First off, it was easy to install, and it works. For the last couple of years, our garage door opener has not been consistently reading the remotes; sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. So I got this for us to be able to have a way to always get the garage door open. It does that, however…

The open/closed notifications reversed themselves after a week or two and have never corrected themselves. So my garage door is always open, according to the app. It gave me some anxiety in the beginning, but now I just ignore it. And sometimes the notifications lag, which initially freaked me out as well. I actually got up to make sure that the garage door was closed at 2 AM because a notification lagged so badly and I happened to see it in the middle of the night.

So if all you want is something that will open your garage door remotely, this totally works, it’s easy to install and isn’t overly expensive. If you really want the notifications and want them to be correct and timely, this might not be your best option.

Exactly what I needed!

Somebody in my neighborhood seems to have the same rolling code for the garage door opener so I will get texts from neighbors every once in a while that my garage door is open. I have security cameras, but they don’t pick up an open garage door so I needed something that would tell me if it was opened. This will not only tell me every time it opens and closes, it will tell me if it’s been left open for more than however long I set it to alert me (20 minutes in my case). It was an easy install, and took about 30 minutes from start to finish with video aid. I needed the adapter For my yellow button liftmaster and it arrived the day after the unit did. Now I can open and close the garage door with my phone, or the buttons in the car or on the wall. Exactly what I needed for the mysterious door open situation when I know I had it closed.

Easy to install and use

This is a must have to make your old garbage door opener into a smart device. Easy to install and set up. It stays connected to the wifi and app, the quails is great. Never had any problems, it's connected to alexa and always responds. Great support of customer service.

I'd give it 10 stars if I could. One catch with Alexa integration. See Review for details

I've been researching Alexa enable garage door keypads, new garage door units (very expensive) and other means to enable Alex to open/close our single and double bay garage doors. Our garage door openers are older Overhead Door Legacy 650 models. Many good reviews but was uncertain if my old garage door openers were compatible. The eKyro website is fantastic with detailed installation videos and the "compatibility checker." I plugged my Overhead Door 650 into the drop downs and it came back "compatible" and displayed a schematic of where the eKyro wires connected to my garage door opener. I was nervous as the wire colors didn't match but double checked the wiring on the Overhead Door website as well.

Step One of actual installation was me downloading the Smart Life APP and creating an account. I watched a video on the eKyro website on how to enable the Smart Life Skill in Alexa and link my account. I then went out to the garage and got started by applying the double stick tape to the unit, unplugged the overhead door power, connected the 2 wires to the garage wall opener wires and plugged in the unit. This is followed by programming the unit by holding down the black reset button until the red light flashes quickly. At this point I was able to use the Smart Life app to discover the device and named it "Single Bay."

I had yet to connect the magnetic sensor but was eager to ensure I'd wired it correctly so I restored power to the Overhead door 650 and used the Smart Life app to open the door. Voila! Couldn't have been easier. I then began the more time consuming task of running the sensor wire to the wall and mounting the garage door sensor close enough to be sensed properly. This required drilling a small screw pilot hole in the top of the garage door where the traveling magnet would be mounted. Not a big deal, just time consuming. The eKyro immediately sensed the connections and could then detect if the door was open or closed in the app, which is so very nice!

ALEX VOICE CONTROL TIP:

As I mentioned in the headline, my goal was Alexa compatibility. I followed the video for Alexa on the eKyro website and thought I had voice enabled in the Alexa app and created a matching pin in the Smart Life app and Alexa app. All seemed well and the device was discovered by Alexa when the smart skill was enabled, but when I asked alexa to "open the single bay," it would properly ask for the voice code, then in a couple of seconds indicate the door was open, but nothing happened :(. I couldn't find any tips or tricks on the eKyro website but there is a broken pop up link that seems to have something to do with this. The simple but not obvious fix I found was to follow eKyro instructions and then TAKE THE EXTRA STEP OF going into the Smart Life app, clicking on the device as showing in picture 1. You'll see that even though I enabled voice control in the app on the home page and in Alexa app, the device itself has a voice control button that is toggled off by default. I simply toggled that on and "boom" Alexa is working.

I am absolutely thrilled and impressed with this product and their website so far. I can't believe I was able to Alexa enable my old garage door opener for $40 and a little time on a ladder. Outstanding product!

Suuper easy to install

Update: I bought this in Dec 2023 and now it’s June 2026. Started getting a lot of offlines now and unable to open garage at times. Our internet would be fine.

1st review: I’m actually super happy that I purchased this! Since it’s been cold, my keypad has been hard to punch in the code so I got tired of it and decided to buy this Wi-Fi garage opener and I could tell already it helps by so much more. I have the craftsman 1/2 hp garage motor and it’s compatible. You don’t have to buy an adapter for it. Two things about it though the button on the device says “program” instead of “reset” like in the installation video. And the other thing is the installation manual looks like a cheapy print out of it, so I was kind of iffy about it at first. But it works fine enough for me. I love this type of technology lol so I’m just excited. XD

I don’t have Alexa or Google, so I’m not sure about that.

Works good with Genie

I just installed this with Genie 7055D and it seems to work just fine. The challenge I encountered was with mounting of the magnetic sensor and the receiver. Not the fault of the product, but my garage door is not flat on the edge and it’s all metal construction. If you have wooden door, drilling mounting holes should be much easier. Also, not that this was my case, it helps to be somewhat tech-aware when pairing the opener with the app and the network. You’ll need your WiFi access info and email address for a complete setup. If you never set something over your wireless before, you may want get some help. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing it perform over the next several months. Hope there’ll be no issues.

Works great, easy installation!

Received my smart opener, and before the install I did a quick check of the instructional videos, just scanning the QR code on the booklet you can access to the ekyro website. Very helpful videos with all the steps to follow to have hassle free installation, I have seen other customers reviews performing the jump wire test, and that is only done if your door is not on the compatibility list, which most of the garage door brands and models are in it. If your door is compatible there's a video showing where to hook the wiring, which I did in less than two minutes, took me more time deciding where was the best spot to install the open and close sensor to avoid damage when open or close door, the wifi programming is very easy, because the app guides you step by step, after the install and set up, performed the test on the "easy to use" app, and work flawless. The smart opener is shared to work on two android devices which both work great, no delays on responsiveness, I will buy another device to be installed on my second garage door, I will be back to this review to do an update about the quality of the product which I'm no able to verify due the short period of use, besides that everything is great!

Google Nest Wifi - how to solve issues

Great product after I spent an hour solving the 2.4Ghz wifi problem connecting to Google Nest Wifi.

If you’re trying to make this device work on your Google Wifi, you have to turn on WPA 3.0 it seems.

I tried everything else including moving my wifi spots to force the device to get on 2.4Ghz but it didn’t help.

See video how to change your Google Wifi settings. It works in one sec once WPA 3 setting is enabled.

Other that - works great!

Works great with my Marantec 4700 and Google Home (Hub) Integration

So i went ahead and bought it. I followed the videos to run the compatibility test and confirmed I did NOT require an adapter.

Simple design and should have no affect on your normal garage door operation if the unit happens to fail for some reason. It's just an AC powered Wi-Fi control unit with a 2-wire relay to trigger the door to open/close and a sensor to detect the state of the door using a corresponding magnetic contact sensor that feeds the state of the door back to the Smart Life app.

I already have other Smart Life devices, but i did get an app update to support this unit. Added the Garage opener to the app with no issue and it was easily found in my Google Home app. With Google Home, i can check the garage door status and tell it to close and open (with PIN). The PIN is set in the Smart Life app under garage door icon, when you hit the button with the "bell" or alert icon -> "Set password".

Connection to the garage door motor was straight forward and quick. Aligning the open/close sensor and the magnet took some thought and may be challenging depending on the shape and alignment of your garage door and its opening. I'd say that's the part that took the most time. The sensor and magnet do NOT require direct contact to correctly sense the close position. Mine are about 2mm apart which ensures no issues when the door opens.

With the app, you can open and close the garage door, set a countdown timer, see a record and timestamp of open and close activities and add timers to open and close the garage door.
