Unstable network and frequently powers off

The light looks good, light is strong and soft, good size, high quality mount. But it powers off on its own frequently, and disappears from the network/app (the remote controller).

I have a super stable network and my room is kept at 69F, there's no good explanation for these issues. Troubleshooting it has been a pain, and I'll likely return it.

Broke at first use

As soon as I set it up the light fell off the screw and broke. Extremely unexpected considering the quality of the product and price.

Connectivity issues which doesn't allow for control.

Why boast about controlling from your stream deck if you can't cause of wifi connectivity stability issues with the product. Good light, terrible connection causing frustration with adjustability feature.

My husband loves this light

My husband is a Twitch streamer and he loves this light. You can control it from an app on your phone. Very convenient.

Game-Changer for My Setup!

The Elgato Key Light completely transformed my streaming and video setup. The build quality is top-notch — sturdy, sleek, and very professional-looking. Setup was super easy, and controlling it through the app makes adjusting the brightness and color temperature effortless. The lighting is incredibly even, no harsh shadows, and it makes a huge difference on camera. Worth every penny if you’re serious about content creation or just want to look your best on video calls. Highly recommend!

Bright lights without blinding you!

Easy to set up and use! I have 2 of the full-sized key lights on either side of my desk. The 4 pictures were taken with a Logitech MX Brio webcam on autofocus and auto exposure. From first to last is no lights, then 20% brightness, then 50%, then 100%. All of them at 4200K color temp. Even at 100% brightness, the lights aren't blinding me. 20% I think is the sweet spot, it fills in my face with light but just feels like 2 extra screens in front of me.

Elgato Key Light: A Beacon of Brilliance in Studio Lighting

Have you ever wanted to light up your workspace like the North Star on a cloudless night or maybe just subtly glow like a firefly in the shadows? Elgato promises a solution with their Key Light – a professional-grade studio light that whispers to the world, "I’m not here to play games...unless I'm streaming them."

The Luminous Highs:

2800 Lumens of Gloriousness: Illuminate your space from "eclipsing sun" to "mysterious twilight" with ease. Whether you’re streaming, video conferencing, or just taking selfies with your cat, the Key Light ensures you’re the most luminous object in the frame. And no, your cat doesn’t stand a chance.

From Arctic Blue to Sunset Amber: With a color temperature range of 2900 to 7000 K, this light can transform your mood faster than a chameleon changes colors. Arctic morning? Check. Sultry sunset vibes? Double check.

Silky Smooth Opal Glass Face: Because who doesn't want their light evenly balanced and glare-free? It’s like giving your studio space its very own facial.

Space-Saving Design: Forget those bulky soft boxes that take up half your room. The Key Light's sleek design ensures it won’t be the elephant in your streaming space. Plus, that clamp system? Chef’s kiss! Mount it, adjust it, and let the spotlight fall on you.

Integration with Stream Deck: This isn't just a light; it’s a smart light. For those who own an Elgato Stream Deck, the convenience level just skyrocketed. Adjust brightness, tweak the temperature, and even play a game of "Light On, Light Off" (if you’re into that sort of thing).

The Dimmable Lows:

Still Too Bright on the Lowest Setting? It seems our beloved Key Light might have attended too many parties in its luminary life. Even at its dimmest, it can be a tad bright, especially if you're going for that "intimate ghost story around the campfire" feel.

Conclusion:

The Elgato Key Light is a formidable player in the studio lighting arena. It's versatile, space-efficient, and exudes professionalism. While it might shine a bit too brightly for some, its range of features and adaptability make it an excellent investment for those serious about their video production or streaming endeavors.

All in all, if you're ready to take your streaming or video production game to the next level, the Key Light is a strong contender. It promises to stand by you, come rain or shine. Or, you know, until you decide to turn it off. 😉

P.S. Always wear sunscreen. Even indoors. Especially if you own the Elgato Key Light. Safety first, folks!

Works as intended, but there might be some quality issues with the Master Mount.

This product works really well and I have found no major issues with how it works; color temperature and brightness are easy to adjust. However... after installing it and leaving it there, untouched, since 2021, one of the rubber "washers" that are used to adjust the height of the Multi Mount just broke apart. I have not been able to find that particular spare on their website, so I guess I'll just have to wait for it to fall off and figure out what to do next.

Outstanding light...worth every penny.

Even at the $200 price tag i paid this light is worth every penny. By far the brightest light i have ever seen. i literally cant turn it above 50% most of the time. The app is great from the pc and the phone and both work instantly. The setup was easy enough and the build quality is good. Very happy with purchase.

An excellent light

I purchased an Elgato Keylight and a set of Neewer NL-288ARC. While the Elgato's are twice as expensive, you get what you pay for.

The color reproduction is spot on with the Elgato. I matched the color temperature on the two lights and pointed them at my light blue wall. Just look at the picture. The Elgato shows a rich blue wall, where the Neewer shows a yellow blue wall. The color is just so much better on the Elgato Key Lights.

Just ask yourself if you want to be lit with a light that will show your best skin tone, or one that casts you in a sickly yellow tone. It was an easy decision for me. I purchased another Elgato Key Light and that was that.

I'm poor now, but I'm well lit.

Works great when they work...

Got these to replace some classic large soft boxes. They look great and put out nice light, build quality seems legit...

The bad... They ONLY work with wifi, you cannot use them or control them if you do not have a wifi connection, you cannot even just have the light turn on without it. Actually connecting them was a nightmare... It took at least 15-20 times of resetting the lights before they would connect to wifi. Only support 2.4ghz and when this disconnect you have to turn off and on the light or reset and hope it pairs again. I've tried everything from disabling all firewalls on the PC I stream from, moving them closer to my router (which is already only 8ft away) nothing seems to make them connect better or more reliablely. Nothing else in my house has issues connecting to my network only these lights. Keep in mind this is on a brand new install of win10 pro in confident it's not the PC or my network. On that same note elgato's other products also seem to struggle with wifi and connections. I got the streamdeck app on my phone and it's a paid subscription, it also will not connect at all.. software seems buggy, this might be fixed with updates at some point but it's frustrating when your lights won't connect and you are scheduled to go live in 5 minutes and your power cycling and resetting and just trying to get them to connect so you can turn them on... Kinda a deal breaker especially for the price...

Network Connection Issues

Until recently I was completely satisfied with the Elgato Key Light. After upgrading my home network to Netgear the lights wouldn't stay connected to my home network. The fact they only offer WiFi and mobile app for setup is a poor design in my opinion and that is the reason for the overall 3 star rating. Let me just say this, I have a wifi extender in the room where these lights are setup and still have connection problems. There should be an option for setting these lights up via desktop app for both Windows and Mac as most streamers use these lights with a desktop computers. There are other manufactures that offer Bluetooth as well as WiFi and I am considering them moving forward.

Packaging quality

I was not expecting this quality of repackaging for a refurbished product.

Both my keylights I ordered were in perfect condition too. Usually with referb’ units I expect a little damage.

My only complaint is how harsh the light is, but I have a soft box for that.

Elgato delivers as usual high quality!

When at full brightness it may be like looking into the sun! Bit it Is amazing and with he app on your phone you can change the hue and brightness . Great product!

Up in the air, see comments.

I received both my lights today (few minutes ago). Very easy to install (extremely quick and simple); however, it appears there is a disconnect with the light housing and the power adapter. As you can see in the video — when the light is turned on it turns off — just leaving me to play with the adapter wire and then turn on and off until it stays. This has been the case of both lights.

I’m undecided on these as I don’t want this issue to persists or get worse. Overall, product is great but just that little nuance can lead to a bigger issue and not so flattering review outcome later down the road.

Amazingly to setup and sync with computer and smartphone.

This is by far the best key light setup for desktop. I’ve purchased 3 other brands over the past 2 years working from home. It is slightly expensive but you get what you paid for. If you work in a room/office that doesn’t have the best lighting and you have video calls all day long getting one is a must!

RUN AWAY!!!!!!!!

Owned for a year and this is the absolute worst purchase I have EVER made, let alone just for video production.

A. Insanely overpriced for this type of product. I purchased two larger RGB lights WITH stands WITH app functionality and WITH more output for LESS MONEY.

B. It doesn't even work. In the past 12 months it has responded exactly 8 times when needed and 57 times had to be reset (I counted). Furthermore... it doesn't even regain functionality when this happens!!! Even IF this were an isolated issue to my system/wifi or whatever, there is no way to operate manually.

C. Why tf can I not use this without an app/cpu???? If this were still a backup option to just turn the knob and go... np, but that seems to be lacking entirely.

The ONLY redeeming feature of this light is the desk stand, which after now finally retiring this thing today in cathartic fashion with a baseball bat, the stand is the only piece which will live on, albeit with a vastly superior light atop (which was 40% of the price of this former paper weight).

Just doesn’t work

I really didn’t want to write a bad review on the Elgato key light but it just stopped working on me. I normally use them for my streams and one day it just lost almost all of its brightness. I’ve gone and tried to reset them, try different outlets and everything but I can’t fix it. Sadly it was probably just a manufacturing error.

Pricey but well worth

I’ve been streaming on mixer for a while now and used a $10 ring light and thought that was perfectly fine. But I Bought this for myself for Christmas and yes it’s pricey but oh man it’s worth it. Especially if you have a stream deck. So easy to adjust the temperature and brightness. Well worth it. GlockN9ne approved!

Professional Lighting Made Simple

As a streamer who cares about video quality, lighting is everything! I use a green screen when I stream so I needed to have good lighting to get the most out of my green screen quality. These are a little pricey but I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for, and that's why you get nothing less than top tier quality out of these! The slim design makes these perfect for any set up without having to worry about having the space for lighting. Not to mention the fact that controlling the lights with your phone makes life so much easier! Easily one of my favorite purchases for my stream set up!

DaVaughn

Super easy install and app setup!

I love the easy and fast installation. Setting up the Wi-Fi capabilities were just as easy as well. As far as portability if it had some sort of laptop size handbag to put the light in, it would be useful to anyone who would travel to use this. I never used anything like this before. I was curious about the extended use if it; would overheat or radiate any type of heat, in which it does not.

Lighting Made Easy

I purchased 2 Key Lights to replace an over-sized ring light and I have to say that I’m glad I did. Not only did I free up space on the side of my desk for an additional piece of furniture, I can also change the lighting to fit my preference from both Key Lights with my Elgato Stream Deck versus turning a nob on 1 ring light.

Setting up the Elgato Key Light is as simple as unboxing and figuring it out with no instructions needed really. It’s THAT easy. There is only one plug needed and that is the power cord for them to operate. The Key Lights free up USB slots and require a Wi-Fi connection in order to connect to your PC. We all need our USB slots, so this is welcome by me.

While you see a $200 price tag, it’s worth the asking price considering 1 Key Light could light your entire room without a problem. I chose 2 because of my camera set up and picking the way my lighting is set around it.

All in all, this is what Elgato does best. They make our lives easier as content creators or anyone looking to use lights for a set up. Hands down an amazing product!

Incredible piece of equipment

This thing is amazing. Works like a charm. Yes, you can find lights for much cheaper, but for the quality and with all the latest updates that give you more control with the streamdeck it makes it even more worth it. Brightness/Temperature/Power On/Off can all be adjusted either on your desktop or stream deck. (You don’t NEED a stream deck to use it) Saved me so much space in my office. The Key Light replaced a large ring light that was attached to a tripod that took up a lot of space. With the Key Light pole mount that is included, you save so much space but installing straight into your desk. Love this thing!

You get what you pay for!

I know what you're thinking... $200... for a light...

It's worth every penny.

Easy to set up. Crazy amount of control. Complete light coverage. And it just looks great in your setup.

The included stand let me throw this on my desk in a few minutes after reorganizing some wires. It's a high quality stand that does its job.

The Elgato Control software allows you to control the light directly from your desktop. This is super helpful when dialing in the perfect brightness/color temp when configuring your cam for OBS or XSplit (especially when you're trying to get the chroma key settings just right). Being able to control it from the Stream Deck is another great feature. As silly as it sounds, it just feels satisfying to press a button on your Stream Deck and have the lights turn on.

Right now I only have 1 light, and it lights me up perfectly. I use a nanoleaf to light the left side of me, and a small softbox light to properly light up my green screen. I'll probably end up grabbing another Key Light in a few months and put one on either side of me, but until then, 1 works just fine.

And finally... It just looks great on your setup IMO. Much better than large softboxes, that's for sure.

If you're a streamer/content creator and you're looking for some new lights, I can't reccommend this product highly enough.

Note: In my pic, the light is at the lowest possible setting. I typically use it at 15%. At 100%, you need sunglasses.

It's like night and day -- LITERALLY!!

CONTEXT:

I've been a YouTube Gaming live streamer for 3-4 years. I have used many different types of lights - spotlights, softbox lights, Ikea diffusing lights, etc. I primarily need lights to light my selfie cam and green screen.

I bought 2 Elgato keylights to replace the 5 ones I was using (and didn't like).

LOVES:

+ Build quality is outstanding - these are super solid & tripod connection is on all 4 sides so you can customize as you need

+ Glow is nice and soft - no shadows with the 2 lights

+ Setup was SUPER simple - Control Center software is basic and works

+ Customization is great - can go from barely there to SUPER BRIGHT

COULD BE BETTER:

- Boxes are massive - wasn't expecting them to be so large!

- Would love to be able to control from my phone - but I'd *bet* Elgato is working on something to do this

- Price - price *might* be on the high end compared to my Neewer or Ikea lights. But when you compare to premium lights with the same functionality, this price is cheaper....

FINAL JUDGEMENT

I am so much more satisfied with the quality of content I'm making now - 100% worth it.

MichaelD

Excellent Build Quality and extremely easy to setup and use.

I was using daylight LED bulbs in lamps with some canvas to send the light one direction. It worked but it was a pain. I looked around for something better and came across the Elgato Key Light. The light looked like it would be perfect for what I needed which is high quality light for streaming on Twitch.

Most will think they're expensive but in my honest opinion they're expensive for a reason - they're extremely well built. They are made out of metal and thus far do not seem to get hot during operation. At full brightness they're almost blindingly bright and I'm actually running them at 3% and 6% brightness levels for streaming. That is the brightness that is set in the picture I'm including with this review.

The light they put out is diffuse and doesn't leave sharp shadows - they light very evenly. You can adjust the color spectrum from 2900K to 7000K. I don't know what the minimum lumens is but it's 2,500 at 100% which is an impressive amount of light.

They do come with vertical desk mounts that are very solidly built as well. The ball mount at the top is metal and they lock down securely and easily. In my picture you can see that I have the two side lights turned at 90 degrees.

They integrate with the Elgato Stream Deck which is awesome because at one touch of a button I can turn all 3 lights on and set the proper settings to get ready for streaming. I press another button and they all turn off. I've even created a folder with other buttons to control the lights individually - on/off, brightness, color, etc.

If you don't have a stream deck you can very easily control them from your task bar in Windows including turning them on and off as well as adjusting brightness and color. There is going to be an iOS app for controlling them as well but as of writing this review it is not yet available. When it does become available I'll update this review to comment on it.

Setup was easy. I did use my iPhone too set them up - I just connected to my 2.4 GHz network and then in the Wifi area of my phone there was an option to configure the Key Lights. I touched on the key light and touched 'configure' and it connected the light to the wifi.

You do *not* need to have wifi on your computer to use these so long as they can be reached over your network. You can configure them from the computer if your computer does have WiFi but I did use my iPhone and found the process simple enough. I do wish the documentation was a little clearer on the setup in iOS but it was simple enough that I figured it out.

They were expensive but I'm very happy with them. They are just what I needed to be able to light myself and my green screen evenly while streaming. The ability to change their color and brightness as I need, on the fly, is amazing.

Best light for streaming, studio or photography!

As a online streamer it’s hard to find products that are efficient, effective and versatile. Well this light has it all. Wether you are looking for a common light or just something to accent your setup, this light fills the void! With a convenient desk mount you can set up this light to accompany all sorts of setups and configurations. And who can forget its amazing ability to work seamlessly with the elgato stream deck you can control this light to do almost anything you want in terms of brightness and warm/cool light! Highly recommend for streamers of any caliber! I will continue to enjoy this light every singe time I flip it on!

EposVox

Super soft, bright light for your productions - but affordable

Streaming with a camera - especially if a green screen is involved - requires a good amount of high quality light. But running hot computers and big soft-box light setups produces a lot of heat and takes up so much space.

The Elgato Key Light aims to tackle that problem.

Pros:

- Thin, flat, completely soft diffused light with a color range of 2900k-7000k and seems to be fairly accurate from my testing

- 2500 lumens max brightness

- Elgato Stream Deck integration for easy control

- Comes with desk mount (and a unique one at that) with a lot of range for customization

- Much more affordable than most flat diffused LED options,

- takes up much less space (and is more convenient to use) than cheaper lighting options

- Can be controlled from iOS

Cons:

- No battery option

- No Android support (iOS only)

- Mounting arm pole does not detach from clamp. Can make it more difficult to mount in some setups (like mine)

ERROR IN VIDEO: This does not cost $130, it costs $200. It's still one of the more affordable options for what it is, but a 2-pack or $300 or a two+green screen pack for $450 would be ideal.
