Good Quality For a Reasonable Price

Last summer I decided to get in to podcasting. When looking for a reasonably priced webcam that had some decent features and 4K capability, I found the EMEET SmartCam S800. This is all that I use for my episodes and I have not been disappointed with the performance. It arrived with its own tripod, but can be seated on top of your monitor. It has manual zoom capability, but I haven't had a need for it as I am seated pretty close to the cam. See my video review for quality.

Fantastic 4K Webcam That Punches Above Its Weight—EMEET is Now on My Radar

I’ve been using external webcams for years, sticking pretty exclusively with Logitech (including the newer Brio models), which have always served me well. That said, I wasn’t familiar with EMEET until I got my hands on the SmartCam S800-4K, and I have to say—it’s left a lasting impression. This camera easily holds its own against the big names, and I’m now keeping an eye on EMEET for future gear.

Likes:

The crystal clear optics deliver EXCELLENT image quality. Truly one of the best webcams I’ve used in this price range.

It works natively with both Mac and PC—no additional drivers or setup headaches.

Performs flawlessly with Zoom, FaceTime, and other video conferencing platforms.

Low-light performance is surprisingly good. Even in dimmer rooms, the image remains bright and clear without the washed-out look some webcams give.

Comes with a great little tripod kit, which adds flexibility for placement and setup.

Despite its larger camera circumference, it sits comfortably on the edge of a monitor without feeling bulky or unstable.

Context for this review:

My use case is pretty specific—video conference calls only. I’m not doing any streaming, content creation, or other specialized use. For video calls, though, this camera exceeds expectations. The value it offers makes it a strong contender in the premium webcam space.

Final thoughts:

While I’ve been loyal to Logitech for over a decade, EMEET has earned my respect with this webcam. The SmartCam S800-4K delivers top-tier image quality, ease of use, and great value for the price. If you’re looking for a high-quality webcam for meetings or calls, this one is absolutely worth considering.

Impressive!

I have been using the EMEET webcam for a couple of months now. I have to admit, I am impressed! Really good quality video and photos with this webcam. I’ve attached a video and photos - the photos marked with blue E are from this EMEET webcam. It seems to be pretty accurate with the tones and warmth of colors in my space - not over saturated or too bright. It is a little hefty in size compared to the typical webcam. I found it easy to attach to my monitor and easy to operate. The software could use a refresh. Yet, a pretty impressive device and a good alternative to the more pricey options.

Fantastic camera!

I ordered the EMEET SmartCam S800-4K with Tripod because I was tired of the low frame rates and resolution I was getting from my old webcam.

The S800 supports both 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps output, with face-detecting dual PDAF & TOF autofocus, face metering, and auto white balance on by default. The S800 includes a high resolution sensor, a USB-C port, camera activity indicator, built-in dual microphones, a privacy shield, and a highly adjustable integrated mount with multiple degrees of tilt and swivel adjustability. The kit includes a USB 3.0 to USB-C cable, a mini tripod, tripod ball head, detailed manual and quick start guide.

The built-in mount is great for mounting on a monitor. The included tripod is very stable and positions the camera 8" off the desk. The ball head adds 2" and another degree of freedom for adjustment.

The free "EMEETLINK" software provides full control over camera settings and features and allows customizing autofocus and metering modes, zoom, exposure, color, white balance, etc. The software also provides for firmware updates - my camera came with v2.0.9 and was easily updated to v2.1.3.

I tested the camera side-by-side using OBS, as well as the Mac Photo Booth app, Zoom, Teams (local), and Teams (Citrix VDI). Regardless of app, video quality is outstanding - so much better than my old "4K" webcam! Clarity and sharpness are excellent with just the right amount of depth of field. Autofocus does a great job of maintaining focus on my face without seeming jittery, and will focus as close as 2" from the camera. Low light performance is excellent without a hint of the graininess and noise that my old camera has in the same light. Zoom is software adjustable from 73 to 40 degrees - perfect for a webcam.

The back of the camera is labeled "Caution - Hot!" and that's for good reason. It's all heat-sink in the back, and while not hot enough to burn it does get very hot.

That may seem steep but in my opinion the value is definitely there.

Out of the box great quality. Easy to adjust. RUNS HOT though.

I've tested a few web cams and was actually pretty floored by this ones. Out of the box it was really awesome looking with great clarity, good colors, and the autofocus while not perfect actually did work. I put up an image comparing it to the right out of box look of a couple other webcam devices. Mind you if you adjust settings post right out of box you can make these look better, but you can at least see how awesome the Emeet looks right out of box.

Connecting the camera is super easy, it's a USB 3 cable they provide. Make sure to have it on a USB 3 port though on your pc or you will not get 4k recording. 4k30 looked pretty good, and is great for cropping in post in a program such as OBS. 1080p60 looked nice and fluid also.

I found the image quality from the camera pretty great, along with the f1.8 of the lens making it work particularly well in darker scenes. In the side by side comparison this camera absolutely blew away the quality of an Elgato Facecam version 1, which to be honest most things out since 2022 tend to since that camera was pretty horrible. The Emeet even did an admiral job compared against a Canon mirrorless camera, though I put a cheaper and slower lens on the Canon. If someone does decide to go the mirrorless route rabbithole the results you can get from that will demolish anything other webcams would get.

The white balance, color, and exposure of the camera on auto was pretty consistent and looked great while keeping a sharpness that didn't look too artificial. The bigger sensor on the webcam made me feel like it was closer to something from a phone and a nice upgrade in visual fidelity compared to something like the C922 from Logitech.

Physically I like this camera. The weight isn't to heavy and unlike most other webcams that use cams or other inconvenient things you can lose, this one has a built in privacy shutter that works really well.

If there is any knock on this camera is that it runs uncomfortable hot. Hot enough where the company even puts a note on the back that it runs hot. It's not just warm to the touch, it's "Hey, this feels almost like it's dangerous" hot in someplaces. Those without a lot of room above their monitor might want to be careful with this one.

Overall I really like this camera. It's expensive, but not unreasonably so compared to other cameras in it's class. It was very easy to work with though, and if the goal isn't to complicate it with a Mirrorless camera system, I would be very happy as a vlogger/enthusiast/youtuber/etc with this camera.
