Next-Level Smart Security with Stunning 4K Clarity and Peace of Mind

This camera is hands down one of the most advanced and reassuring home security solutions I’ve ever used. The 360° radar tracking vision is incredible—motion is detected instantly and tracked smoothly, even when the subject moves out of view. The millimeter-wave radar combined with PTZ tracking ensures nothing slips by unnoticed, and the 4K recording captures every detail with impressive precision.

The smart intruder protection truly sets this camera apart. The AI human-and-pet detection works accurately, and the built-in alarm siren is loud enough to immediately deter unwanted activity. Whether I’m asleep, at work, or traveling, I feel confident knowing my home is being actively protected.

Video quality is outstanding. The 4K resolution and 20X digital zoom deliver crystal-clear footage, even in low-light conditions. I can zoom in without losing important details, which is perfect for monitoring loved ones, pets, or specific areas of a room.

The one-touch call feature is a thoughtful addition. Being able to instantly connect with family members through two-way audio and video is incredibly convenient, especially for kids or elderly relatives.

Setup was fast and easy, and the 135° wide-angle lens provides excellent room coverage. Integration with Alexa and Google Assistant works seamlessly, and the strong encryption gives me confidence that my video data stays private and secure.

Smart, powerful, and incredibly reliable—this camera delivers true 24/7 peace of mind. A must-have for anyone serious about modern home security.

Has all the features you could want, and more!

Have been using Foscam forever. The extra features you get for the price are hard to beat. Like many "indoor" Foscam IP Camera's I have purchased, have never had an issue with using them "outdoors", as long as you keep them away from moisture. 10 years or more is not unusual. Getting features like ability for FTP storage and instant email, without paying extra for it, is great. Even a great Windows app? Of course! ZERO extra subscription fees required. Works great with Android App "IP Cam Viewer Pro", as shown along with other camera's, displayed on a Smart TV.

I usually set things up with the FOSCAM android app to join my local WIFI network (can even use that app for monitoring when away from home at no extra charge). Initial setup is a breeze, as the android phone app guides you through the process of connecting the camera to WIFI. Afterwards I use the Windows Foscam VMS app for extra functionality, such as easy multiple detection zones, as well as the local FTP and email setup.

I did have some issues with WIFI, where it would lose signal and freeze up. I believe the camera was too far from the router, which I was able to correct by installing a WIFI extender. But before correcting, I gave up and tried another brand. That mistake only lasted 2 days before it was sent back for a refund, and I then went back to getting the Foscam running perfectly with simple WIFI range extender.

The image quality and camera features can't be matched. Crystal clear images and video. Extra wide field of vision was great. Night vision perfect. Motion Detection trigger worked great, and could easily trigger from a flag waving in the breeze, or a cat walking by, or set it to lower sensitivity and ignore flag, or ignore a section of property altogether, yet still detect cat as desired. As expected from a digital zoom, image quality is not so good. Better than nothing, but you really must have an optical zoom to get clear and sharp images from a distance. The windows app also allows you to use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out. Anything after about 4x is unviewable. Using the Foscam Android app, you can pinch the screen to zoom, with decent results to what it shows around 10x using it's own built in magic..

Superior Image Quality

At first sight, the Foscam R8M closely resembles its older sister, the R4S. However, you soon notice the R8M does not have the previously familiar external antennae. The R8M is also slightly heavier. But the biggest difference is the image quality. As a Foscam user since the introduction their first high-definition camera in 2012, superior image quality has kept us coming back even when Foscam’s user interface was frustrating. We were big fans of Foscam’s optical zoom lenses, and this 4K camera now makes digital zooms comparable.

The QR Code Set up was easy and the wifi connectivity has been consistent so far. We’re glad the R8M still has an ethernet connector for hard wiring.

Our preliminary testing has not yet determined if the R8M’s Intelligent Detection has been upgraded. Previous cameras’ recordings could be triggered by sunlight-shadows, insects and sometimes we were unable to find out what the trigger was.

We use the Foscam app to monitor our 18 cameras. We record on micro memory cards plugged into the slots on our cameras.

We were once told that the name Foscam stood for “Focus Camera”. The Foscam R8M image quality is a worthy 4K update that further enhances Foscam’s reputation for superior image quality and the software continues to improve.

Great Indoor Camera

This 4K indoor camera works amazingly well. The video is crystal clear, and the 20X zoom, auto-tracking responds quickly and makes monitoring so much easier. Overall, a great security camera for the home.

I am because HE IS

High-res (4k) cam with great wireless connectivity!

Using the Foscam app on my phone, I was able to easily set up this camera, by scanning the QR code on the bottom of my camera. It was simple to connect it to my local WiFi (both my 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz WiFi were able to connect with this camera). I already have another different Foscam camera, so I had the app already installed, along with my current WiFi info, which made the setup super easy and quick.

I checked and updated to the latest firmware and was able to see live streaming from this camera. I installed a 256Gb microSD card and the camera has had no problems writing to it. I can access the stored videos from the SD card using the Foscam app or a third party abdriod app that I use. This camera has a much higher resolution 8 megapixel (4K), with excellent clarity, compared to my older 5 year old Foscam camera (720p). The video it takes looks very clear in both light and dark conditions, the audio quality is high, and the built-in speaker is loud and clear! It also has built-in notifications that it can send to you, such as "person" detected. If you want to eliminate false notifications, Foscam recommends their paid AI service that will screen the notifications to make sure that they are valid before sending them.

There are many other options and functions that these cameras offer, especially two way talk as well as the camera following motion it detects which is awesome. If you use Alexa or Google in your home, you can link this camera to those services, so that you can use voice control. You can can also manually remotely pan and tilt I'm the camera 350° horizontally, and 150° vertically, so you can see everything everywhere around the camera! It can be left on a flat surface or mounted on a wall/ceiling using the included mounting hardware. The camera also comes with a power cable (USB-A to USB-C) as well as a special power block to power the camera. You can store recorded video to the cloud (for a fee), locally on a microSD card, or just live stream it.

I am highly impressed with this model! Works great, stays connected to my WiFi, and alerts me to significant events in real-time, while storing my recorded videos locally on my microSD card- I highly recommend this model as a reliable, high resolution video recording and alerting application for needed security and monitoring.

High quality, great features, easy setup... win, win!

Once again, Foscam has produced another great product.

I've been running home security cams for almost 20 years now. Mostly with BlueIris software, and now I'm also using a DVR. I started with cheap 1.3MP cameras, mostly of Foscam clones and one original Foscam. The original Foscam unit always performed better and lasted longer. Anyway, over the years, my system changed so that I'm mostly using all POE hardwired cameras with only a couple that use wifi. I used to buy the more expensive but used commercial products. Honestly, it wasn't worth the pain. I'm now running almost all Foscam POE cams. They are much higher quality, modern features and a great price point. A word of note, I do not pay for or use cloud services, although it is a good option.

Now for the product review! I picked this model up as I needed to upgrade an older wifi cam. It does come with a nice USB power supply and cable along with a patch cable. There is also a wall/ceiling mount that isn't great but will certainly work as designed. Setup was a breeze as the instructions were easy to understand and well written. I already had the FOSCAM app on my phone. Once connected, I updated the firmware and set it up in my living room to test. Connectivity is great. I really like having it on the 5G wifi. Picture quality is wonderful and video is smooth. I didn't realize how nice it was until I compared it to my older unit, a R4S 4MP cam I bought in 2020 (I still have two of those in use that are working flawlessly). Anyway, this new cam blows away the old unit in features and resolution. Two way audio quality is so much better, and the PTZ movement is much smoother. The old camera PTZ is much slower to respond and video is a bit choppy when moving. This new cam is so smooth and clear it's not even comparable. One drawback with the new cam, the microphone really picks up the motor sound when moving and it comes across pretty loud. Hopefully, with a firmware update they can mute or lower the mic gain when a PTZ function is active. I also turned on the IR/night vision and that video is very clear as well. Overall, I'm very pleased with this new unit.

I do wish FOSCAM would go back to an HTML setup/configuration page with these newer cameras as that gives me a better feeling on configuring these cams. If you are not familiar with setup, you will need to run the mobile app or the Foscam VMS software on a PC for setup. For a while this was a problem for me, but honestly, I have gotten use to using the software and app an can still configure these cams for use with my BlueIris software, my Dahua NVR, and other third party software/apps. The Foscam app really does make it handy to access all the cams remotely (without a bunch of port forwarding and other router settings) regardless of where they are installed (I have two homes I'm monitoring). At some point, I will likely pay for the cloud service as I move to using my home PC less for recording as well as having the files off site. These new cameras come with a lot more AI functionality that I just haven't used yet. As I was testing I did notice that I was getting "pet detection" notices as that feature was enabled. There are so many features built in that I just don't use. What's nice about these units is they can act as stand alone monitoring devices that can send notifications, emails, etc with built in motion, sound, AI human and AI pet detection.

Anyway, my apologies for the long review, but when you like something and it's a hobby, I just feel like I want to leave an honest and detailed review.

Foscam R8M 4K Security Camera

I’ve tested a handful of home security cameras over the years, but the Foscam R8M is the first I’ve tried with true 8MP, 4K quality—and the difference is striking. The high resolution delivers real peace of mind.

Setup & Build: Installation was refreshingly quick. The QR code pairing took a couple of tries, but within 30 minutes I had the camera streaming to the Foscam app. The build feels solid without being bulky, and the lens moves with a smooth, almost quiet confidence as it tracks motion. One note: the R8M insists on connecting through your router (not just Wi-Fi). Since my router is MAC-secured, I had to dig up the device’s MAC address before it would connect.

Video Quality: The 4K resolution is a game changer. I can see the texture of my dog’s fur when he wanders into frame, and faces are crisp enough that I don’t have to squint or guess. Even at night, the 26-foot night vision keeps the picture sharp and evenly lit—no grainy shadows swallowing the details.

Tracking & Lens: The 360° auto tracking feels like having a watchful but unobtrusive guard. The camera glides smoothly to follow movement, unlike the jerky pivots I’ve seen in cheaper models. The wide-angle lens covers everything, though be aware it leans toward a fisheye look.

Audio & Features: The built in mic and speaker are surprisingly clear. I’ve even calmed my cat through it. I also love the one button privacy mode—the lens literally tucks itself away, which makes the camera feel less intrusive when I’m home. Alexa integration is seamless; asking my Echo Show to “show the living room” works instantly.

Everyday Use: For me, this camera is more than just “security.” It’s a way to check in on my pets during long workdays, to reassure myself the house is safe at night, and to share little video clips with family.

Drawbacks: Some users report Wi Fi stability issues (I’ll update if I run into them). My biggest frustration so far is the so called “SSD recording.” There’s no SSD slot in the camera itself—you have to plug a USB drive into a computer and keep that computer running all day to record. That’s a big limitation if you want local storage.

Value for your Money: If you want a camera that combines serious security with everyday comfort, the Foscam R8M hits a sweet spot. It’s not just about catching intruders—it’s about feeling connected and protected, whether you’re watching over your home, your pets, or your loved ones.

Great for Monitoring My Son’s Room

I had been using this indoor camera for about a week and had it set up in my son’s room. The video quality is really clear — the 4K makes a noticeable difference. The Wi-Fi connection, both 2.4G and 5G, is generally stable, but I do experience occasional connection issues. Setup was very easy and the app is user-friendly. The two-way audio works even better than I expected. It was perfect for checking on my son when I wasn’t in the room. We’ve now taken it down because his room is under renovation. The only downside is that it takes up a bit of space, but the ease of use and video quality make it worth it.

Another nifty addition to the Foscam environment

To get the most out of this camera, you will need the Foscam APP or Foscam VMS PC software. However, it will support Onvif protocols and you can enable them via the initial setup in the APP. The old on-board webserver interface that old Foscam's had is no longer supported in firmware, you will need one version of the APP. However, you can use the on-board micro SD card storage for recording if you opt not to sign up for the Foscam cloud storage which also has some AI analysis features. Landing the camera to the APP is smooth and the APP automates most of the process. You can do LAN searches if you are good at subnets or you can scan a QR code with the camera on an ethernet cable in your router and also land it. You can adjust the motion tracking and radar tracking features as well as invert and mirror the feed so the camera can be mounted dropped from a ceiling as easily as sitting on a table on attached to a wall with the included bracket. USB-c power is supplied by an included wall wart and cable. The mic and speaker setup allows you to get a conversation going via the camera with very little lag. This is an indoor camera. If you use the onvif porting, you may need to switch on port 443, which is not clearly noted in the general documentation as that feed is separate from the http feed on port 88. The image quality is quite good and the autofocus keeps the field of view crisp. Black and white night vision is close range due to the limited number of emitter diodes, but clear. Foscam has created a well integrated environment and if you are a fan of the simple setup and remote control features, this is a good indoor camera to add a discreet view point. The firmware can be set to auto-update over the internet and I have relied on that for years with other Foscam equipment and never had a botched update.

Another Strong Camera from Foscam — Extremely Easy Setup and Great 4K Quality!!! AAAA++++

I’ve been a big fan of Foscam cameras for a long time now — over 16 years at this point — and they’ve always served me well. Some of my older models eventually reached the end of their life after many years of running non-stop, but a few are still installed and working every day without issues. Back in the early days, the setup process was honestly a bit of a headache. I remember when you had to do everything manually with IP addresses, port forwarding, and a very technical interface. Even with 30+ years of programming and networking experience, those first generations took patience to get working. It was definitely not something the average person could just plug in and use.

This new generation, and especially this 4K camera, is a completely different world. The setup was probably the easiest I’ve ever experienced. From opening the box to viewing the live feed on my phone took maybe two minutes. You just open the Foscam app, scan the QR code on the bottom of the camera, follow the prompts, and that’s basically it. Anyone could do it now, even without technical knowledge. It’s nice to see how far the product line has come.

The camera itself is excellent. The 4K resolution is crisp and detailed, and the connection has been perfectly stable on my WiFi 6 Eero mesh network. I didn’t even need to plug in a network cable because my router is close enough, and the wireless signal stays strong without causing any slowdown for other devices. The picture is smooth, sharp, and looks great even in low-light conditions. I was also impressed with the AI motion detection — it’s much smarter than the older motion-trigger systems that used to get confused by shadows or small movements.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with this model. Foscam has clearly improved both hardware and software over the years, and this camera shows it. As long as they keep making products like this, I’ll stay loyal to the brand.

If you’re in need of a simple and effective monitoring solution this is a solid choice.

Extremely Easy to set up and get up and running. I have used several systems over the years and for a quick and easy monitoring solution, thus FOSCAM interior camera is fantastic. Once set up with an account and app on your phone, accessing and controlling the camera is very easy, and the video quality is exceptional. The camera has an extremely wide range for panning and tilting which makes it very easy to monitor multiple sections of your home or room. The camera also has great tracking so anyone moving through the area will be kept in line of sight. Finally the two way audio also works very well.

If you’re in need of a simple and effective monitoring solution this is a solid choice.

Great pan and tilt Wi-Fi / Wired Camera!!

App quality is good, solid video and sound quality. Pan and tilt gives a great view angle. View is generally pretty wide angle and great for inside. Setup is easy although had to do it twice to reset the camera user/password. Good connectivity to WiFi. Good motion detection very similar to other Foscam cameras and works with the app seamlessly. Really impressed with Foscam’s line of cameras and DVR’s it’s seamless in the app to see all devices even when at different locations. Camera build quality is good! Great value.

So frustrating, Camera removed and trashed at 4 AM due to issues

As a long time Foscam owner and user, this is by far the WORST experience I've yet. After the 4 AM loud siren that woke my baby and startled my partner and numerous obnoxiously loud "HELLO FOSCAM" announcements needlessly disrupting the entire room every time the camera boots, I've had enough. As an indoor security camera, I thought this camera would be discreet, you know, like an indoor security camera should be. Instead, if power is interrupted to this camera, it reboots, announcing at full volume "HELLO FOSCAM -- WIFI CONNECTION SUCCEEDED" by default when powered up. Sure, helpful after the first boot up, but after that, it becomes ridiculously annoying to hear and continues unless you head into the app and disable "Voice Prompts". Aside from being loud, this camera is also confusing. It's got a full telephone logo on the front which makes it look like it's a device for video calling, but instead, that is supposed to mean you use this camera with a mobile phone app (no duh..). There are two more needless radar symbols on each side, which are supposed to let you know this camera has motion tracking - but you would already know that because you bought the camera.. Motion tracking works, but seems gimmicky if there is anything more than one person or pet in the room because the camera just flips out and is constantly following what seems like the wrong thing. Despite the fact that the camera hardware itself seems to be fast (the camera pan/tilt is very quick, and the view angle is good unless you want to see downward -- you'll need to mount it upside down and flip horizontal/vertical controls if you do so), the software is where this camera falls down. Expect connection issues if using Wifi configuration. It never works for me (on any of my Foscams) despite resetting, following all instructions and having proper WiFi networks to support the camera. Your best bet is to plug the camera into a network cable, then search for the camera on your LAN. Lastly, the alarms and notifications from the app for motion were ridiculous. Despite detecting person and pet motion all night from my baby moving around, I received no alert or warning when my baby was actually moved from their bed. However the camera DID sound a loud speaker alarm when I panned to see where my child was, which wasn't great because it was 4 AM and my partner feeding my child was (very understandably) not happy. I did NOT set any sirens on this camera, so apparently that is some kind of default or something the app thought should happen based on configuration of my camera scenes.. So I got NO alert or siren that what I was watching had completely left camera view, but the siren I did not configure for this camera sounded because I looked around the room. This was the last straw and what prompted me to finally chuck this camera despite being nice hardware, because the software environment and setup is painfully annoying to deal with. All of that is on top of Foscam's slow connections and pushing customers into more AI and cloud services, which I personally don't want in my home security cameras.

Sharp video and solid quality

The camera feels solid and well built. The finish looks good, and it doesn’t feel cheap. I’ve used Foscam before, and they’ve always made reliable gear, so this one didn’t disappoint.

Functionality:

Setup was quick using my Wi-Fi. It synced right up with the app, and the video looks really sharp. The tracking works well, and the picture holds steady even when someone moves around. The audio is clear both ways.

Value for Money:

For the price, the picture quality and build make it worth it. You can tell it’s made to last, not one of those flimsy cameras that struggle to stay connected.

Recommendation:

If you want a dependable indoor camera with clear video and easy setup, this one’s a safe pick. Foscam is a legit company.

Excellent Product. Seamless Addition to My Existing Foscam Setup

I’ve got seven Foscam cameras around the house, mostly outside, and they’ve all held up really well. This one was no different. Setup was simple and took less than five minutes using the phone app. I like that it uses USB-C for power, which makes things cleaner and easier. The app prompted me to set a new admin password right after setup, which felt smart and secure. I’ve also got the Foscam NVR and use the VMS software on my PC, so it dropped right into my Foscam ecosystem without a hitch. Everything works together smoothly, and I really appreciate how well the cameras, app, and NVR integrate. The human detection feature is surprisingly accurate and hasn’t given me any false alerts so far. Build quality feels solid, and I expect it to last like the others. It came with everything needed to get it mounted and running, which I always appreciate. I’ve used Foscam for a long time and never had durability issues. The image quality is consistently good across all my units. I’d strongly recommend this to a friend, especially if they’re already in the Foscam ecosystem. Even if they’re not, it’s a solid entry point. I didn’t have to troubleshoot anything, which is rare these days. It’s nice when tech just works. Love these Foscam cameras.

Outstanding pan tilt camera

Absolutely awesome camera. I have a couple namebrand pan tilt cameras that work OK but this one far exceeds what those are capable of doing. Mounting the camera is simple. It handles dual band Wi-Fi and it’s also Wi-Fi 6 capable which means much better streams and much better quality, especially when it’s connected to the 5 GHz band on your router. The app is straightforward and easy to navigate. The build quality is very good. The camera is lightweight but sturdy. It really is an outstanding camera. Give it a try you will not be disappointed.
