As Bright as the Sun
I won't bore you with features and modes etc. offered by this LED light which you can find by a simple search online. But by searching for comparison in terms of brightness in Lux, you will see that this Godox ML150Bi is significantly brighter than other brands. I tried to verify this using a set up that I use for measuring medical illuminators with Xenon or LDP/LEP (Light-Driven Phosphor/Light-Excited Phosphor) light sources which mimic the sunlight which the ML150Bi also does at 5600K. The result I got was about twice the brightness of 61,054 Lux at 1 meter claimed by Godox. The reason for the discrepancy had to do with the surface area of my detector being much smaller than one square meter and my detector being placed in the center of the illumination area where the brightness is the highest (brightness decreases towards the edges). Let's forget measurements in Lux which is Lumens per square meter and Lumens depends on how the human eyes perceive brightness depending on the wavelength of the light. Long story short and to put things in terms of more practical numbers, I used my Sekonic light meter and took a measurement at 1 meter from the ML150Bi, and I got 1/125 sec and f16 at ISO 100. For those of you who understand the Sunny 16 Rule, you'd know right away that this is as bright as the Sun on a sunny day but please keep in mind that the Reverse Square Law applies based on the distance between the subject and the light source. Let me briefly mention that for better lighting quality, you can use a soft box and if your soft box has a Bowens mount, just use an inexpensive Godox ML-GB adapter which I also ordered. For use on locations outdoors, you can use a Godox ML-BA Battery which I will order in the near future.
