Exactly what I needed it for photography school

I’m very happy with this strobe. It was easy to set up, works reliably, and provides plenty of power for my photography sessions. The light output is consistent, and it has helped me get professional looking results in my studio. It’s a great value for the price, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a dependable studio flash.

Great Value Studio Flash for Beginners and Intermediates

I’m very happy with this flash. The Godox SK400 II-V is an excellent option for beginners to intermediate users. While it doesn’t have all the advanced features found in newer models, it delivers solid performance and reliability where it counts.

If you’re working within a budget but still want a quality studio strobe, this is a great choice. It provides consistent output and gets the job done without unnecessary complexity.

My only minor drawback is the weight—it’s a bit heavier than I’d prefer. That said, considering the price point, it still offers outstanding value.

Amazing Studio Strobe! Perfect Power/ Features for photo booth

The Godox SK400II is hands-down one of the best values in studio lighting! I have paid more and got less with other brands. It delivers a strong 400Ws of power with fast recycle times and consistent color output — perfect for portraits, products, and creative setups. The built-in 150W modeling light is bright and adjustable, making it easy to preview your lighting before every shot.

I love that it has a built-in 2.4GHz wireless receiver, which syncs effortlessly with Godox X-series transmitters for remote power and modeling light control. The Bowens mount is rock solid and works with tons of modifiers, and the quiet cooling fan keeps everything running smoothly during long sessions.

The build quality feels professional, the LCD screen is clear, and setup is quick and intuitive. For the price, you simply can’t beat the performance and reliability of this light.

Wonderful!

My first strobe light set (I used a lantern softbox with these photos) and I’m in love! 10/10 recommend! I want to buy the AD200 for portable use next!

Looks like I paid full price for a once returned item.

The product is scratched, the towel is missing, the cord wasn’t factory rolled (see photos), the styrofoam packaging is destroyed, and the color gels are bent. Bummer.

Awesome value flash for studio or home use.

Came away pretty impressed by this Strobe. I've owned various different strobes for decades now and it's really nice to see features that used to cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars be imbedded in in a strobe that cost even less than the B400 Alienbee back 20 years ago.

This strobe on a basic level works well. It's easy to adjust and the buttons make sense on the back. It even has slave and ttl slave mode. What I really like is it works with the Godox/Flashpoint triggers including the newest X3 triggers. This allows you to remotely adjust the power and trigger it quite accurately. In over 100 shots, there was only 1 time the strobe didn't fire for me and I think it was because the remote was in sleep mode.

The only issue I saw with the SK400IIV is the size is annoying. It's pretty long and has a big butt from it's pivot point. If you are using this as your key light it's hard to read or access the buttons in the back if you have it tilted up. I rather much prefer how lights like the Xplor 600 has the interface on the side now. The size is large but it's also heavy and unwieldy. Okay in the studio on a stand, but not really great for portability.

It works great with any Bowen mount accessory you have. I used it with the reflector and grid that comes with it, a soft box, and various other modifiers and they all worked fine.

This isn't the greatest studio strobe I've ever used. But for what I was testing it for, and the fact that it's pretty much used to help me get images for Vine reviews...it's pretty perfect. At $152 at the time of writing this review it's an incredible deal.

I will note that this was the second unit sent to me via vines to review, the first unit I received was damaged in shipment. The flash tube was broken. I don't think this was a manufacturers fault though there is a protective cover on the light so I have no idea how the flash tube broke.

Great Upgrade for Home Studio Lighting

I recently picked up the Godox SK400 II V flash for my home studio, and it's been a fantastic addition. With 400Ws of power, it provides reliable and well-lit shots. The best part is how seamlessly it pairs with the Godox X2T trigger, offering wireless control and making my workflow much smoother. The build quality is solid, and the user-friendly control panel is a plus. If you're looking to enhance your home studio setup, the SK400 II V is worth considering for its practicality and reliable performance.

Powerful & good quality

Economical yet powerful 400 wats of good quality light recycling time is good a Built in R2 receiver & 10 watts of LED light is another cool addition. For outdoor session connect to an any appropriate portable power pack to shoot outdoor with out problems.

Roberto Cienfuegos

Great for video light too.

For in studio lighting is great.

Has to be plugged in to the AC and if use for video the temperature can not be modified in the unit but only with corrected gels.

For photography works amazing in studio. Not portable and no battery use with this strobe.

Nice improvement from the first generation of SK400

I recently bought the Godox SK400ii studio light for a photography project, i also have the first generation of Godox SK400, and here are my thoughts after using it, paired with Nikon z7ii.

Build Quality: The SK400ii is built like a tank, although it's inexpensive. The build quality is not bad at all. Despite some plastic components, they're designed to withstand high temperatures, ensuring long-lasting durability. It also comes with two backup fuses.

User-Friendly Controls: The navigation menu is simple and straightforward. If you are using other godox product or any studio light, you should be able to work with it right away. It's user-friendly, enabling quick adjustments during shoots. buttons and rotary dial also feel smooth and responsive.

One notable feature is the auto preflash functionality, effortlessly syncing with cameras equipped with preflash firing systems. You can also utilize the Xpro-N or flashpoint or godox protocol for wireless triggering. Plus, the customizable recycle time (0.4 to 2 seconds) is a lifesaver in fast-paced studios, preventing overheating.

Cooling: The built-in cooling fan is not very loud and it activated around about 10 minutes of use. You can barely notice the sound.

In short, the Godox SK400ii is a solid choice in the studio lighting market, representing the second generation of the SK400 series with significant improvements, particularly in cooling. I highly recommend considering the SK400ii. It's an affordable addition to any studio setup, offering exceptional performance and reliability.

Excellent! This is the non-battery powered version

Great value for the money from a renowned brand. This version needs to be connected to the outlet from your home/studio therefore cannot be used when shooting on a location unless you can get a hold of a power outlet. That is why is more affordable than the battery-powered version.

Other than that, there is no compromises when it comes to quality or performance.

Things that you need to check when buying a flash:

• Power unit are Watts. The more watts, more powerful, e.g. this 400w flash is more powerful than a 200w.

• Recycling time in seconds. This is how much time the flash needs to recover from one shot to the new one, the less, the better. E.g. 0.2secs is better recycling time than a flash with 0.5sec recycling time.

• Bowens mount. Bowens mount is a standard mount that can use modifiers from any brand as long as is Bowens mount.

Given that the 400W battery powered version is almost triple on price, I think this is a great choice if you are going to stay in the studio.

This came with some color filters and the reflector; I do not care since I already own many reflectors and modifiers.

Keep in mind you need to buy a trigger for your camera so you can activate the flash.

Great Value

I am amazed about the features coming from this flash at this price point. Basic stuff all working perfectly, then there is this advance wireless control features that I will want to try next. One thing I really appreciate is the use of LED light for model light, no more bulbs to replace in the middle of shooting.

Fits my budget

This is my first Godox studio strobe. The build quality seems very good. It comes with a flash head cover and a very thick power cord. The modeling light is easy to adjust and can be set to meet your needs. I like that you can set it to beep when the unit has recharged, unlike my Alien Bees. Also included you will find extra fusses and a WiFi thingy. Unfortunately it does not come with a 7 inch dish, this is something you will need to purchase separately. Nonetheless, this strobe is still a good value for the money.

Excellent Strobe for the price

I got this Godox Strobe to use with my Godox XPro remote trigger. This is a well made basic strobe that is easy to use for beginners. It is advertised as compact, but I find it it to be just as large as my two Buff strobes and the Aputure Amaran 150c. It comes with a metal modifier and 5 different color fabric filters that you can install on the front of the modifier. The Bowen's mount is standard and fits any other standard modifier.

The canister is light and made of mostly metal, with the exception of the handle and bracket. The dial on the back makes it easy to dial in power. I feel this is a good budget strobe light and works flawlessly with the Godox remote. I would recommend this to a friend.

Excellent Studio Strobe for the Money

The Godox studio strobe is a lightweight yet powerful flash for those with an electrical outlet handy (no battery function). Recycling times are very short. The control panel is well designed and user friendly. The screen is especially easy to read. All photo/video light screens should be as good as this. Functions are clearly labeled and have their own buttons. The quality of light is spot on and a 10W modeling light is there is you need it. My Godox XProll trigger was instantly recognized and worked seamlessly. It's a great light for the money and I recommend it.

The Consumer

This Flash Delivers Professional Features At An Excellent Value.

The Godox SK400II-V is a popular entry level studio flash with professional features. First off, the build and design are sturdy. The power cable is heavy duty and grounded. This metal case should withstand the rigors of day to day production for a long time. The unit requires no assembly, out of the box it is ready to go. The controls on the back panel are very clear. The instructions and videos on the Web will help with anything that is not completely apparent by looking at it.

The unit immediately syncs to the Godox X Pro II mounted on my Sony A7s. I could control the brightness of the flash from either unit. Although the Godex flash trigger shows 1/32 strength the SK400II only can be reduced to 1/16th. The attached photos were all taken with the flash set to 1/16th from about 10 feet away from the subject. There is plenty of light to add layers of diffusion.

The SK400II comes with a reflector and color filters. I have taken a few pictures showing the effects of the filter. Note the white filter created negligible diffusion. In most scenarios a Bowens mount soft box will be necessary to create pleasing modeling.

This flash delivers professional features at an excellent value.

Competitive value prosumer strobe; notable in features and performance

Item: Godox SK400II-V 400-watt Prosumer Studio Strobe

Price: $169.00 at time of review on 07 19 23

WHY THE ‘DASH-V’…? The SK400II-V Studio Flash ‘monolight’ actually replaces the previous Godox model 400 that had a more conventional modeling light; a 150-watt halogen bulb. The most prominent feature of the updated SK400II-v is a more efficient 10-watt LED that replaces older technology ‘halogen bulb.’ The LED draws much less power, generates less heat and actually provides a brighter modeling illumination of your subject. And an important note about this strobe’s low price. The strobe is priced low because all you get is the strobe. But consider that if you have an inventory of Bowens mountable light reflectors and such, along with remote trigger gear, you’ll immediately save a few hundred dollars by just getting this well featured strobe less all the add-ons that you may already have.

IT’S IN THE DETAILS….. The rated color temperature of the strobe is 5700-Kelvin and features a rapid 1/10-th to 1-1/2-second recycling time. Flash durations are as short as 1/2000-th of a second. And you’ll be able to adjust the strobe-power in fractional increments from 1/16-th, 1/8-th, 1/ 4, 1/ 2, and then 100%. Within each fractional amount, you can add 10% increments of power. So, for instance, at 1/8-power, you can go to 1/8 + 10%, +20%, +30%... and so on up to +90% and ultimately to the next fractional amount. Bottom line, ‘…strobe power levels are very adjustable.’ Triggering options include sync cord, optical, test button, and wireless power control. The SK400II-V weighs only 4.4 lb and runs on 110 to 120 VAC mains power.400Ws, 5700K Color Temperature

HOW STRONG IS THE STROBE…..? Well, Godox rates this studio strobe with a guide number of (213). And for those who may not remember or don’t know, and in the simplest of terms, GUIDE NUMBER is the product of multiplying any chosen f-stop value times the distance from flash to subject, at which setting you get a properly illuminated subject-image. So it’s a power rating of the flash. To set this as a standard, the ISO (sensor or film sensitivity) is typically set/referenced at 100. Because I didn’t see any details on Godox’s guide-number parameters, I’ll take their rating with a grain of salt.

WHAT’S MOST IMPORTANT…..? In my video I do give an overview of the strobe. But most useful for me, and what I wanted to share, were the various methods for triggering, both remote wireless and via sync cord. And you’ll see that even if you don’t have one of the Godox’s remote triggers, you’ll still be able to use the strobe upon receipt. For me, the Godox XPro-S remote trigger is compatible with my Sony A6400, which mounts on the camera’s alpha-type hotshoe.

MY OVERALL OPINION….. And I’ve found Godox to be very similar in design and features. So when ‘value shopping’, I find I can consider price and available accessories, features and such workable in making a decision. With the SK Series by Godox, I’ve been suitably impressed with both the performance, overall design and price.

Packs a punch

This light is amazing. Extremely powerful. The modeling light alone is quite possibly the strongest modeling light I've ever see. Power chord is long so you can move it around. Always a fan of Godox lights but this one completely shocked me. Worth every penny. I should have gotten two for my studio.

Fantastic Value For The Money!

The quality of the SK400ii-V is very nice. Much much better than I expected for a sub $200 light.

Flash power and color is consistent. It came well packed with extra fuses and a good length power cord.

Works very well with the Xpro triggers I use.

I will buy more to replace my aging Amvona strobes.

Another great strobe from Godox

Godox is an excellent brand. I have used the Godox line of lights for eight years and have never been disappointed. The SK400IIV is an update of an already awesome light.

For most of my studio work, I have always used the MS300 from godox. This light has always been amazing for me even though it was a budget model. Occasionally i would encounter scenarios that would prove the light to be slightly under powered. The SK400 offers that bit of extra power i was needing. The 400 also has a slightly faster recycle time than my MS300 at full power. The only issue that arises is that the SK400 only drops down to 1/16 power and my MS300 drops down to 1/32. This allows me to use a lot less light when needed.

The LED modeling light is a welcomed improvement. My MS300 with the modeling light on would heat up a modifier so much that it was like a mini space heater in the face of my model. The SK400 does not get nearly as warm and the cool white light is closer to the actual flash color temperature. They both seem to be fairly similar in brightness but the cooler cooler temperature of the SK400 seems to light up the room just a tad bit more.

The functionality and controls of the SK400 strobe are very easy to learn and if you have used any other model of Godox lights than it is no different than the rest. You can set the strobe to beep when the flash has recycled. You can make adjustments to the flash power and modeling light with the knob on the back. Setting the group and channel is also very simple when using wireless triggers.

This light is my new main light for my in home studio. It works well and is very reliable with consistent light quality from every flash.
