A little shimmer goes a long way
I've been looking for a cool reverb pedal that has a shimmering effect, so I was excited to try this one out. Here are my key points:
- The controls are very simple: Mix is the mix between the original signal and the reverb signal. At zero, it's all the original signal. At max, it's all reverb, no original.
- Decay controls the duration of the reverb effect
- Shimmer obviously controls the shimmering tone that gets added to the reverb mix.
- The range of the decay is pretty great. At max, it seemingly lasts forever. Even without the shimmer effect, this pedal works as a good hall/plate reverb pedal.
- The shimmering reverb tone seems to act as a partially delayed octave pedal? It almost seems to bump the octave up by 2? It might not be for everyone.
- Even at 25%, the shimmer is very very present. I would argue beyond half, it's not great and sounds too much like the high keys on an organ or something.
In my video, I tried to play very slowly so you could see the before/after. My original signal is very boring (haha). No other effects at all. You can see the profound effect the reverb and shimmer adds.
This is not a pedal for playing fast. Once you start adding the shimmer and pushing the reverb beyond 25%, it becomes very present. I didn't add it to the video, but when I played power chords with distortion, you couldn't really hear the shimmer much at all until it started muddying up the sound.
For me, I love this. It's fun to play. I mostly like noodling around slowly with the Mix at half, Decay at Half with maybe 15% shimmer.
Thanks for reading and watching! I hope you found this review and video helpful!
