Book Great - but arrived in poor condition

Book is awesome, but I ordered it as a baby gift and the NEW copy was a wreck - torn edges, peeling cover.

Your child will love this book

Favorite children's book! The story is so cute and your child will love looking for the hidden secrets (balloon floating away, mouse with a banana, etc). The board book is sturdy and has held up to dozens of storytimes with my child. I give this as a baby shower gift every time.

Kids love the mischievous gorilla!

Cute story!—which is told mostly through the illustrations. Follow the sneaky little gorilla as the zookeeper says goodnight to his animals :) Great baby shower gift or toddler book!

Hard cover version cuts out quite a bit

This was my daughter’s favorite book when she was 7-8 mo. It was my favorite book too. I could fill in the stories, change it around, lengthen it, shorten it. That made it so much more fun. The experience as a reader is somewhat like reading a well written book where the author leaves a lot to the readers’ imagination.

This book is also great for slightly older siblings/cousins to read to the 1 yo.

We received the first paper back from Dolly Parton’s foundation, which the baby tore up accidentally and we bought this hard cover version.

Sadly the hard cover crops out about 20% of the illustrations. If you see the red circle in the photo, the paper back had the entire length of the watchman’s body. In contrast here you can barely notice his shoes and a smidge of the elbow.

Hopefully publisher fixes this problem in the subsequent edition. We will happily buy another copy!

LOVE the book, but style varies! Beware!

I love, love, love this book and have bought it for so many families that I know! I recommend this book a hundred times over!

However, I suggest buying it from somewhere else or via a different listing —

The listing for one made it seem like I was going to receive the board book version, which is exactly what I wanted. I thought that based on the weight listed, as well as the pictures in the reviews showing it as a board book. But what arrived was a super flimsy, cheaply made paperback that was bent in the middle and the corners of the pages were bent over in a sort of dog-ear style. I’m super irked because it was supposed to be a gift and the replacement won’t arrive in time.

Unfortunate

This was one of my favorite books as a child. But unfortunately my book came damaged it's a hard cardboard style so it takes quite a bit to bend it like it is.

Very simple for short attention span.

This is the best by for a children’s book that I have come across in a very long time! My 18-month-old granddaughter loves it!

Sweet book with clever illustrations

What a fantastic book! Not much dialogue but a great book to really look closely at the illustrations. Nonreading kids can tell you the story just by looking at the pictures, leading to discussions. Ask if they saw the tricycle or why does the mouse has a banana on a string. Charming and funny.

Not new! Buyer beware!

I love this book....but.....This product is not new! I purchased a new book, but this one has been used. It is already beat up.

Vibrant and Detailed Board Book!

This book is great! It is vibrant and detailed. It would be great for all young children. Several of the pages do not have words but the story tells itself. You can look for different animals, the banana on each page (for younger kids), and the balloon on each page (for older kids). Great words to teach are keys, open, uh oh, eek, night night, banana, balloon. My favorite detail is the increasing number of spectators in a window each time they pass the "courtyard" area. I really love this book and so does my one year old. This book would be great for small babies with all the colors, older babies who don't sit long, and older kids who love a funny story!

Half picture book, Half story

I needed a break from Goodnight Moon (the only book my 15 month old will listen to uninterrupted, so I went in search of other Goodnight books and stumbled upon this one. Given the reviews, I decided to give it a whirl. It's not a hit in our home.

The story is simple, will only a few words per page, which should be a plus, but there are several pages with no text - only pictures. I think some kids might enjoy this, but for some reason, mine doesn't. There are 3 double sided pages toward the middle of the book with only pictures and 3 more at the end. The pictures advance the story, but my 15 month old doesn't really get it. I try to make up things and point out what's in the pictures, but she inevitably loses interest. This might be good for a slightly younger child that just wants to look at the pictures or a slightly older child that can tell that the pictures are advancing the story without words.

I did purchase the board book version and as one reviewer noted, a lot of the pictures are cut off. I decided that mattered less than durability at this point as my little one likes to "read" on her own and often destroys books with paper pages.

The illustrations are lovely and the colors are nice and vibrant, I also think it's a cute story, I just wish there was more to it.
