I have a couple of the other Real Books, and I love them, because the melody is usually simplified, with the chord names, so you can easily improvise on the main melody and fins the right chords at a glance from the chord names. I’m not adept at sight-reading both chords and melodies when written out fully in musical notation, so I really appreciate these books! Some songs are written in more complex forms than others. Since you are likely to recognize a lot of these songs, it gives you a boost toward being able to play them right away, giving you incentive to learn even more! I highly recommend ANY of these Real Books for their musical content and ease of use. The binding helps you set it up on the music stand and turn the pages easily. All music books should have this type of binding. I don’t mind that it is plastic. Some people prefer wire binding instead, because it is more durable, but if the plastic ever cracks, as my oldest Real Book did, that I got years ago, you can always take it to a business supply store and have them re-bind it for you.
