Cox cable customers GET THIS (and a router/mesh)

TLDR; Definitely recommended for Cox cable customers, just make sure you get it "provisioned".

Was initially using a "15 year old" Cox Panoramic modem/router combo which started acting up. Called Cox and the tech recommended just grabbing a DOCSID 3.1 modem because I had a Google Mesh already. Setup was easy, I had it activated at a Cox store but found out quickly that I still need to call Tech Support to have the modem "provisioned". Now, no longer having issues attaining the speeds I'm paying for and don't have to pay a monthly rental fee for. Not having to "share" my service with Cox wifi being broadcasted. Yes, it runs hot but what IT equipment doesn't? This modem is highly recommended for Cox cable customers!

easy install

Easy setup, works great, looks pretty cool. I was nervous about switching from our Xfinity rental gateway to this modem and about needing both a modem and router. Last time I replaced a rented modem in 2016 or so, it was a huge hassle that required calling Xfinity multiple times. But this time it was super easy-- just download Xfinity's app and you can make the change right in there. Took me maybe 10 minutes to get it all set up, and it works great, maybe a little faster than it used to be. And will pay for itself in less than a year and then save us $15 a month. Seems to work great with the eero router I got at the same time, and they look much cooler than what we had before.

Speed doubled!

I've had this unit for a week and it works perfectly with Xfinity. I bought this modem because CODA56 was having some issues but let me tell you there are absolutely no issues with Xfinity and CODA (not CODA56). I'm using the Google Nest Wifi router followed by a 5-port switch and everything works perfectly. Only issue is the LEDs on the CODA are extremely bright to the point of me applying electrical tape on it.

CODA56 and Gig CODA does NOT MAINTAIN Upload Speeds

I purchased the CODA56 modem at full price (new NOT refurbished) At installation download speed was ok at ~400 Mbs and upload was ~340 Mbs on WiFi (note that download speed varied from a high of 800 down to 300 or so depending on time of day which is normal for this area), see Image 1.

After a couple of weeks, the upload speed dropped dramatically see Image 2. Note that this is the SECOND CODA that this effect happened to as last year I purchased a gigabyte CODA that did the same. However it was after the warranty period and I needed an upgrade due to my upgraded provider service so I let it go and purchased the "Faster" modem. Logging on to CODA56 interface I discovered the OFDMA state is DISABLED, important to note as this are the channels that provide the higher upload speeds, see Image 3.

I called my provider and they discovered and FIXED several issued (upload high ~54 DBmv) which was corrected to ~45 DBmv but the upload speed remained at ~ 80.

I contacted the manufacturer on Thursday, 10/16/25, they responded with request for more info immediately (which I in turn answered that night with all the additional data they requested). So far as of 10/23/25 NO response.

Be aware that something is wrong with these units and whatever speed you get at install may change dramatically shortly down the line.

PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Perfect Upgrade for Cox 500/50 Plan

I replaced my older Motorola Arris SB6190 with this Hitron CODA DOCSIS 3.1 modem because the Arris couldn’t pull my full subscribed 500/50 speeds. After setup, this modem handled it with no problem and now I’m getting the max bandwidth I pay for. Installation was straightforward and activation with Cox was quick. Solid performance so far—great choice if you need a reliable upgrade for higher speed plans.

Headache

Will stop your Xfinity WiFi from working for no apparent reason and there’s no one who will help from support. Save yourself the headache and buy a more user friendly modem.

Will throttle under heavy load.

I just needed a temporary placeholder until my Nighthawk cm3000 came back from warranty. This Hitron was available for same day delivery. This unit was overwhelmed and throttled down to 30-60mbps down. I do have a very large and complex mesh network running over 92 devices. I have 1GBPS from Cox. Everything still worked but there was a noticeable drop in performance. Overall this device never let me down. If you are just running a small number of devices and don't stream this will work ok. I only gave it 2 stars because at this price when new you can get refurbished or used modems that can handle the stress much better. I got a CM1200 for the same price and it's running like a champion.

Easy deployment and great throughput

I get exactly the throughput I am paying for, was simple to provision on xfinity. minus 1 star for no local management capabilities to see stats and such. works as intended. Update: lasted 4 months, now it locks up and requires a reboot. typical chinese trash.

Issue on Xfinity service…

The modem works well and is fast, however it causes constantly occurring random artifacts (distortion) of the tv picture of the cable tv portion of my Xfinity service. The distortion disappeared when I unplugged the modem power cord.

So far so good

Works like it's supposed to. So far so good. Real happy 😊

Ask me in 6 months, hopefully I'll have the same review to share.

connects to xfinity cable internet service without issue

just like other modems, we as consumers expect this to just work. I took my time reviewing the package contents and found a spot in my basement near the verizon fios ONT to mount this so I wouldn't have to run any new wires. I already had a cable entering the wall that was pretty new but definitely try to use a new clean well insulated coax cable and snug it down on both ends. I do not run a splitter and the single cable goes straight outside from the modem to comcast's branch feed outside my house. I connected this unit to test for signal and it went through it's special docsis sync sequence, eventually ending up in solid blue lights for channel bonding. unfortunately I cannot access the modem's diag page so cannot verify which channels I am locked onto but I do not believe comcast has enabled the next gen speeds yet in my area of Northern Delaware. speed tests indicate I am getting at least the minimum that I pay for and sometimes a bit more. this modem has been up and running 24/7 for almost a week now with no hiccups so I cancelled my fios service. this is the cheapest modem available currently as of this writing to get you next gen speed tiers using the docsis 3.1 spec as others I am sure have already stated.

pay special attention to the unit and remove ALL of the plastic wrap coating the modem. it is so clear you will miss it if you're rushing to hook it up. there is even a sticker on top to remind you but the sticker removes independently of the film wrap. this wrap covered the entire edge of my unit which are all ventilation holes. this modem, like other electronic devices that process vast amounts of data, runs very warm and sometimes hot. keeping this in my basement where it is cooler 12 months out of the year should help it last longer and not have any weird issues.

looking forward to hopefully getting the firmware update pushed from xfinity so I can login and monitor the stats from the admin web page. also looking forward to getting on these next gen speed tiers.

until then, saving a good amount of money over verizon's gigabit service. their upload speed is incredible but who really needs 800+ mbps of upload. and their speeds on gigabit weren't much better day to day vs their 300mbps plan which as of this writing had increased to the same price as xfinity gigabit plan

Xfinity 100 Mbps Up

Had to change my old modem to get the new speeds of Xfinity available in my area and it does work. It is on the compatible list of modems on their site.

*much* better upload speeds through Xfinity

Finally able to access faster upload speeds with Xfinity. I'm paying for 1 GB download and 150 Mbps upload. Much happier with my upload speed than my previous modem, which was constantly 20-25 Mbps. Easy to set up with Xfinity app. I hate Xfinity/Comcast, but this modem does what I hoped it would.

Revised review after 6 months

After 5 to 6 months I started getting poor connection to Comcast/Xfinity and had to reboot the cable modem multiple times a day. I work from home and use a VPN connections to multiple databases, Teams, Zoom, and VOIP so a reliable connection is essential. I switched this modem out for another brand DOCSIS 3.1 modem last week, and my connection issues have been eliminated -- I now have a steady 300x20 connection 24/7.

I also dislike how this modem is designed to lay flat, instead of standing up like most cable modems. It also seems to cause some interference when it's placed directly beside my WiFi router.

Super fast and priced right

Xfinity app has a screen saying my service speed has increased but my older equipment was keeping me from enjoying it . My speed was 90mbs.

First I replaced the router(m300) with a Tenda AC1500. That got me up to 300mbs. That was $25 from AliExpress.

Then I got this docsis 3.1 modem for barely $100 and it nearly tripled my speed again to 800mbs.

So for a total outlay of $130 I went from 90mbs to just shy of 900 without paying more to Comcast.

Speed as advertised connected to Xfinity

So far good. Installation went without a hitch. Xfinity over the app, put in the mac address, and it did the rest. I recently returned a Netgear CM1000 and downgraded my Xfinity speed, i was getting 945mbps down and 24mbps up with the CM1000 on the 1 gig plan. Now on the 150mbps plan with the standard Coda (not the Coda56). Cut my bill from $85per month down to $25, 5x the upload, and to be honest, I cannot tell the difference in downloads in actual use.... But it's only 2 users with 6 devices connected....solid 180 down and 120 up so far. If it has any failures or disconnects, I will update this post.

Works very well

I bought quite a while ago. Just Intsalled yesterday with cable internet from SCI and so far it better than expected. Is currently running 3 mesh routers all wired from a switch and tvs etc

Good value so far

Bought this to replace 4 year old Motorola capped at 500mb/s. I didn’t realize this didn’t have a built in router (lol) but luckily I already had an eero Mesh system. My upload speed has improved from 20mb to 120mb. I’m not yet getting the promised 1gb/s based on my Xfinity plan but almost 700mb/s on my phone. Happy so far but the only 2 Ethernet ports is a bit limiting. The Motorola had 4.

Problem free install on Comcast and good performance

My Xfinity plan is 1.2Gbit downlink and 200Mbit uplink. With old Motorola model (which is also DOCSIS 3.1) I was getting about 900MBit down and 30MBit up. Got this Hitron box to rectify the situation. Decided against 2.5GBit version as it would require new (non WiFi) proper router and switches to take advantage of that speed. Maybe when Comcast offers 10GBit in my area I will jump the gun, upgrade to WiFi7 plus finally will be able to use my stationary computers 10 GB capabilities.

Installation could not have been easier. Used Xfinity mobile app, entered modem MAC address and it was up and running in about 5 minutes, no need to call anyone. The speed according to fast.com is 1GBit downlink and 250MBit uplink.

I will keep an eye on connection dropping problems reported by some users.

Per comcast rep this product is still on another customer's account

I am on the phone with comcast and when I gave them the CM MAC number they stated that they can't add this modem as my replacement because it's still on another customer's account.

Paltry Instruction Sheet Included

WiFi signal is good, tech support as it relates to the included instructions is horribly lacking, and it could be easy to install once you visit the website and review the full product manual. Long story short: You have to call your cable provider and provide them the modem’s MAC address. Once they register it to your account…THEN you can hook it up to your router (or directly to your Mac/computer). It will show you all the correct front panel lights prior to getting registered, it just won’t work until your provider knows it’s there.

Wonderful Piece of Equipment!

I've been testing this unit for 2 months and I'm very impressed so far! It's been very reliable and I am getting much higher speed than I am paying for through Xfinity. I pay for 600 mbps and I've tested speeds as hoigh 872 mbps! This Modem was easy to install. paired easily with my Google Nest Router and has been very reliable so far! It's more reliable than 2 other named brand products I ended up returning. Nice looking unit blends in well with the environment with the added plus of being able to mount to the wall. 5 Stars for sure!

Works great with Comcast / Xfinity

I've seen some reviews that complain about setup or complain about the size of this modem. I think the size is perfect. It's half the size of the giant box that my ISP previously sent me.

And in my case setup was a breeze. All I did was follow the setup instructions that it came with and then I followed the activation instructions from Comcast / Xfinity (you use their app to register the modem with them). It's been working great ever since. No need for an appointment, no calling support, all very easy.

I've been using it for about a week now, getting great speeds, and I'm very happy with it. Only time will tell if it's durable, but so far so good.

Fair value for money and work as advertised

Got it hooked up and activated using Xfinity app and has been working with no problems for a few weeks now. Tested the DL/UL and I am getting the advertised speed from Xfinity. Longevity is unknown for now but everything is working good now. Good value if it last for the long run. Used an Arris Surfboard for a while but its only Docsis 3.0 so needed an upgrade.

Works well with my Xfinity 600Mbps cable connection

I used this to replace an existing slower (200Mbps) cable modem + Wired + WiFi router combo device that has served me well until I recently upgraded my service to 600Mbps. I had to do the following to get this working

[0] Installed the Xfinity app on my phone and verified my current modem is listed

[1] Powered off the old modem + router combo device.

[2] Disconnected with incoming cable connection, ethernet wiring.

[3] swap out the cable from old to new modem.

[4] moved the ethernet over to a new wifi router I had purchased

[5] use the xfinity app register this modem (over 4G) which then took a few minutes to recognize the new modem and start working (

[6] ran a speed test to make sure I was getting what I was expecting.

As for durability only time will tell.

Works as expected!

My internet provider is Xfinity, and I'm on their gigabit plan. I have been one of those, though I should've realized it sooner, where I'd been "renting" their own modem for $14/month for years. It was time to pickup a third-party modem, and save that money. This will easily be paid for within a year.

The item comes with the modem, a coax cable, ethernet cable, and a power cable. Instructions are very simple and straightforward. Plug in the modem to power, your coax connection, and ethernet to your router. I have an eero Pro 6 myself that I've been utilizing, and previously had my Xfinity modem set in bridge mode with the eero Pro 6's handling the wifi in the house versus the xFi gateway handling it.

Setup went as expected, but, I realized, after unplugging the existing Xfinity gateway, that due to being set to bridge mode, I couldn't easily "add" this modem. I ended up having to plug back in the xFi gateway, going to 10.0.0.1, and disabling bridge mode. At that point, I was able to walk through the add a thirty party modem using the Xfinity app. I just had to add the Mac ID, and plug in the Hitron as instructed. Once I did this, it took about 5 minutes for everything to be up and running again. My eero's picked up the signal, and everything was hunky dory.

As mentioned, I have Xfinity, so can't speak to other internet providers and how the setup process would be there. The Hitron instructions state some have an automatic recognition of the modem, and will just work once you plug it in. Sadly, that is not the case with Xfinity, and you have to use their Xfinity app. It's not difficult, but certainly would be nice to have it automatically recognized.

Speed wise, my eero is recognizing the full speed of my internet connection when connected to the Hitron, so no disappointment there. Both wireless and direct ethernet connections are giving me as good of speeds via speedtest.net as I was receiving with the xFi gateway. In many ways, however, and maybe it's because I did all this at 11 PM at night, I felt websites loaded faster under the Hitron compared to the xFi gateway.

One caveat, I've come to find out about, however, that may be a deal killer for some with Xifinity, is if you're paying the $25 for their Xfi complete package. This includes the modem rental, some xFi Pods, and unlimited data. Everything on this listing, and even the packaging for the Hitron hypes up saving the monthly modem costs you're paying. That is true, except if you have Xfinity and want unlimited data. Xfinity charges $30/month for unlimited data when you bring your own modem compared to paying $25 for their xFi complete package. It's sad to see this when you know they're using their powers to simply charge you more for less service.

Regardless, I'm very happy with the Hitron modem so far with my Xfinity service so far. It was easy to setup, works as expected, if not better than my previous Xfinity gateway, and works great with my eeros. Like I said, the only downside is if you are paying for unlimited data with Xfinity, but that is no fault of Hitron's.
