Good for a year and a half

I used this for a year and a half as a mat linked to a zwave door sensor and it worked great. I didn’t give it 5 stars because it now sticks in the closed position so I have to buy a new one. This will be my third unit so I think the expected lifespan is slightly more than one year. Not awful given the price.

Happy with Matt, but what do I do with the excess wire?

I have purchased two of these this past year one for each of my homes for my cats to have access and let me know when they’re coming and going I thoroughly am satisfied with that aspect. It has been a blessing to know that they are at the door so that they don’t wander off again however I do have one suggestion for the company there needs to be some kind of an access box for the excess wire between the mat and the old chime unit. I understand some people want an extra long cord but however, mine is just inside the door and I have a huge wad of excess wire and nowhere to put it again. I’m very satisfied with the Matt itself

Didn't last more than 6 months.

Doesn't last. Worked fine for 6 months then stopped working. I put this under a dog rug at the door our dogs use to alert us when our puppy went to the door. When it stopped working I noticed had came apart at all four sides. Cheap foreign made junk. Don't waste your money on it.

Clean Carpet

I am using product as doorbell for my dogs. It works great. Loud enough I can wake up and let dogs outside. Thank you for the clean carpet!

Brilliant for Cat!

It's only been one day.....but, it's brilliant for letting me know the cat is at the door! At the rate I was constantly turning my head to check outside for the cat I'd be having neck surgery soon....but no longer, my neck will now be saved! I hope it keeps working for a long time because I really love it. The sound is quite loud (great if you actually need the alarm function), but totally tolerable for me on the lowest sound setting on the chime. If you need a cat doorbell, then buy it right meow 😊

Ticking

It's just ticking all the time. I know that's not intended but not sure how to stop it

Works great with an ecolink door contact sensor & hubitat

I used this as a door mat sensor in conjunction with my autoslide sliding door opener so the dogs can let themselves out. It is super easy to use without the included alarm box. Just connect the black wire from the mat directly to the dry contact sensors of an ecolink door contact sensor. Then program a rule in hubitat to open the door when the mat sensor activates. No external battery required, since it just uses the battery in the door sensor. I just put a small light weight rug over the mat. When the dog steps on the rug, the door opens. Works like a charm.

I think this might be my solution

I have a 7 month old puppy and don’t see him if he goes to the door for potty. This way I can hear him. Have to say the alarm/chime is extremely load. I put my speaker in a cupboard and can still hear it clearly 60ft away. You could also put some tape over the speaker if it is too loud. I have two dogs and it can get a bit “noisy” with them in and out but still glad I have it.

Back Seat Dog Alarm works great, but was hard to install

UPPATED- see below. The mat is just a big normally open switch. I discarded the cheap buzzer/chime unit and wired the mat wires across my car ignition key sensor switch terminals and put the mat under the back seat cover. When I open my car door with my Black Labrador dog laying on the back seat the key-in-ignition warning alarm sounds so I don't accidently leave him back there in the Arizona heat. And even if I ignore that warning, it prevents me from locking the doors when I get out. It works great! I love my dog!!!

I gave 4 stars, not 5 because only the buzz function worked, not the chime. No matter though, because I threw the buzz/chime part away and kept the mat which works great as a pressure switch. Five stars for the mat!

UPDATE: one star for the mat. See photo. It worked good for a couple of weeks, then became more and more intermittant. It fianally started to split open, so I opened it to find the paper-backed metal foil had disintegrated.

That it works and I’m happy with it

It’s perfect I put it on the floor and when my lady gets up I hear her the cord which is really long I could go from one room to another very happy with it

No volume control

I use it under a rug by my backdoor so I know when my cat wants in.

I have the chime unit upstairs in my bedroom where I am most of the time.

It is extremely loud so I have it wrapped up in a towel to dampen the volume a bit.

The only improvement, in addition to volume control, would be to make the wires attached to the mat itself a few inches longer.

This would allow it to be tucked out of the way easier. It has to come up over the threshold into the house & because it's so short, it tends to stick straight out, so it's more likely to get stepped on & break the connection piece. Ouch, like stepping on a Lego.

Stops working after a few days

I bought this item twice. It has two kinds of alerts when one steps on the mat. One is chime and the second one alarm. The first time after a few days. the chime started to ring continuously as soon as I switched it on . So I figured the item was defective and returned it.

However I need this for my elderly mom as she gets up sometimes and starts to walk on her own. So I rebought .

The same thing has happened with it also after a few days. Chime starts to ring continuously as soon i switch it on. I am keeping the product as the alarm feature is working fine, just the chime doesn't work. I preferred the chime sound though and wish it had worked.

I would recommend one buys it only if happy with just the alarm sound.

Smartings workaround

Got this but not for its intended purpose. Wanted a pressure sensor to place under a bed to run routines. I finagled it to work with a contact sensor from Ecolink, works great with smart things, I can now set up routines with conditions. Let me know if anyone want a video.

Perfect for a cat doorbell

I got this mat so I would know when my cat wanted inside and it works perfectly!

He weighs 12lbs and sets it off when he comes to the door wanting in. I have a fairly thick door mat and it works well underneath. The alarm is very loud but I put it inside one of my kitchen cabinets to quiet it some and can hear it clearly throughout my apartment. I've had it about a month and have had no issues with it.

Not worth it

I give it two stars instead of one because it does make sounds...

So it comes folded up into fourths in a narrow box for easier shipping/storage. This method sounds fine, but it caused permanent creases in the materials. Which means even after a couple days laying flat, even with a bit of light weight on it, it still wants to fold up a bit and definitely won't lay truly flat. As I can't see the inside, but I know the typical construction of such devices, I can only surmise that those permanent creases are causing or will cause problems.

As to the actual triggering, it is erratic. Likely in part due to the prior mentioned creasing of the materials. Some areas will trigger with a single finger, others require entire body weight, while other areas won't trigger at all.

The physical construction is what I would expect to find, actually worse than, at a 'Spirit' or other Halloween seasonal store. I've actually purchased these types of mats from said stores for $10 and they are at least 4x the quality. The plastic shell (supposed to be PVC) feels like a cheap dime-store tablecloth and I would not expect it to handle actual foot traffic or any weather. This is the type of material I would expect to start cracking within a month of use. It says it can handle weather when covered with an appropriate weather mat, but I disagree. The entry whole for the wiring is a gaping hole where moisture can/will enter and were insects would love to begin a home. Extremely temporary use in dry conditions only or seal the hole with some caulk etc.

Overall it might do ok to let you know when trick or treaters are coming up to your door before they ring for an evening. Yet it is way overpriced for what you get.

Using it for doggie to go outside

We have a new dog that we have trained to go to the door when it's potty time. Problem is he does not bark. He would sit by the patio door until he could not wait any longer. This works perfectly! We have used light weight door mats with rubber backing, the weight of the mat does not trigger the alarm. The dog is a French Bulldog, weighs around 20 pounds. We have a skinny cat that triggers the alarm when walking on it. The chime is not too loud, easily muffled if necessary by wrapping it in a dish towel. The alarm sound is way too loud for how we use it, but would be great if you wanted to use as an intruder type alarm. I taped the wire to the floor from the mat to the alarm so the mutt or cat won't chew on it. I think this a wonderful product that has solved the "I need to go outside now" problem.

Alerts me when the dog needs to go out!!

This is the best pet purchase I have ever made. It's not advertised for pets but after so many dog accidents in the house, I wondered if there was a mat sensor alarm or I was going to invent one. There are specific pet mats on this site and in pet stores that are very expensive and have poor reviews. This is PERFECT!! My old Havanese dog has diabetes and needs to go out frequently. Even though I am home, if I don't see him sitting by the back door, he will wander off and pee in the floor. This mat lays under our oversized existing door mat and the wire and box run behind the lamp and end table. The wire is very long so that's nice too. The sound can be either an alarm sound or digital ding dong which I use. It goes off twice in a row lasting under five seconds total. There is no volume adjustment so since its in our living room and we have hard floors that carry sound, I have the sound box wrapped twice in a dish towel to muffle it a bit. It's hidden behind a table so no one sees it. I can't say enough good things about it in the two months we've used it. Thanks for making a reliable product that saves my floors!!
