Brittle material, failed on first use

The charging port plug / cover broke off instantly… after opening the port on the bottoms of the speaker to charge it for the first time, the water tight plug actually just fell off. The rubber is completely brittle and didn’t flex at all. I’m not sure if my speaker was an odd ball but I bought it because it’s water resistant and while it probably still is, the way the plug is no longer connected to the speaker (directly out of the box) is disappointing

The sound quality, sound adjustment, and Bluetooth works great but I think the flexibility of the plug failing on the first use is really lame.

Great little speaker. Poor quality rubber cap.

These are great little speakers. Puts out a decent sound for its size. Had to take a Star off because the rubber that covers the charging port on the mustard color is defective. First one received, rubber was cracked which disconnects it from the speaker making it too easily to misplace when charging. Sent first one back due to this issue and reordered. Second one has same issue. Did not want to try a third. Must be with mustard only because I have many in other colors and no issues with the rubber. Very pliable. Not so on the mustard color. Very hard. Disappointing as I don’t expect this poor quality from JBL.

Great sound, very durable, and perfect for work!

This speaker is awesome! I actually bought it as a gift for my husband because he had the exact same model before. It lasted him a very long time (about 2 years) until he unfortunately lost it, so I wanted to get him the same one since he loved it so much. The sound quality is great for its size, and the built-in clip is a fantastic feature. My husband clips it to his belt loop while he works, and it’s lightweight and easy to carry around all day.

The only minor downside is the charging cable it comes with—it's quite short. We ended up buying a longer one separately to make charging easier. Other than that, it works beautifully despite its small size. Highly recommended!

Great sound and volume for a small, compact speaker

The JBL Clip 3 delivers great sound quality and volume considering how small, light, and compact it is. It’s easy to carry around and clips onto bags or gear, which makes it very convenient for travel or outdoor use.

For its size, the audio is clear and fuller than expected, with enough volume to comfortably fill a small space or be heard outdoors without distortion at normal listening levels. It performs well for casual listening, background music, or on-the-go use.

The build also feels durable, and the compact design makes it easy to take anywhere without thinking about it. Overall, it’s a very practical portable speaker that delivers better sound than you’d expect for its size.

physical clip broke

The actual Clip broke off so it can't hang anymore making it worthless because the whole function is to clip. I have other blue tooth speakers that are dedicated like kitchen, bathroom, and laundry and so i don't have an area I could just leave it. That's why I say it's useless. I wasn't aggressive with it either. It basically lived on my backpack. Never exposed to the elements. Never dropped it.

The sound is great. I'm not sure you're gonna find a price comparable speaker with this good of sound.

It is the perfect size for a mobile click speaker. I didn't find out it had a next button for the 1st month because I never needed to skip a song lol. You have to hit play twice to go to next song. There is no control buttons for previous song, which isn't a total bummer. I always prefer next anyways.

Would buy again

Love the color Love the sound but like everything else in 2025 quality is questionable

I was really excited to receive this, but it looks like companies are cutting corners these days 😅 Straight out of the box when I went to charge it, the rubber covering the USB tore off. Yikes. Just a heads-up either be extra gentle with it or be prepared to exchange it.

It has lasted me 4 years. And still works!

It’s a very sturdy and well-built speaker. I bought mine three years ago and it still works today. The battery life last for about four hours still and the charging speed takes 20 minutes to fully charge.. the only thing that broke on it was the clip unfortunately

You want a good , easy set up and use speaker--- this is it !!!!!!!

I bought this today 7/4/25 and it came in the same day took 5 mins and it was playing music , sounds great .

I have an older one probable 10 + years old a clip 4-- still works great I just needed another blue tooth speaker and found this one easy to use. Great speaker !!!!!

I bought the $20 speaker and sent it back the next day..

Solid sound, durable, and clips right to your hip.

I have been using mine for about 3 years now. It is a very reliable speaker and the battery life is amazing. Give it some time to charge it can take a few hours depending on how low you run the battery. I have easily got 10 hours or more out of this little speaker. Range is about 20 feet and it will hold a signal. Over all if you are looking for a portable speaker that can act as a shower speaker, get chores done around the house speaker, late night need to wind down without waking anyone up speaker, this one is a good choice and it’s made by a company whose speakers get the job done and more.

Very durable!

I love this speaker! It's perfect to clip to your jeans or hamper to carry it through the house while doing laundry, or in the paddock mucking stalls! As you can see, I forgot to bring it in one day after being in the paddock with the horses. It fell off the nail I hung it on, got stepped on, rained on, left out for days, AND IT STILL WORKS GREAT! 5 stars

Amazing, Just as good as the newer version.

I got this as a gift for my girlfriend. I have the JBL Clip 4 which I loved and I wanted to get her one. However, only colors she wouldn’t like were in stock. So I opted for the 3, in this silver color. It sounds just as good and honestly has such a cute look, im starting to prefer how industrial it looks over the new JBL.

Definitely recommend, it sounds great, as all JBL’s do, so no surprise there. Strong for how small it is.

Good For Price

Charges fast, small so very portable. Volume is good, connection with bluetooth is smooth. It lasted me 3 years, before it fell on the floor and broke in half as seen on the picture. It vibrates a lot if there's bass in a song, so it will vibrate itself off a counter. It has fallen multiple times for me, so I'd say it's durable but not too durable. I didn't mind the vibration until I saw it was moving by itself.

Love love love!

I absolutely love the JBL speakers. This is actually the second one that I have purchased. Great quality for the price and actually sounds really good and easy to connect to also love that you can control the sound from the device not just your phone. 10 stars if I could.

Takes a beating!

When I originally bought this it was to play music while I work. I am a handyman by trade and needed something durable to put up with being tossed around on occasion and hanging off my belt loop all day. After hours of researching reviews on this and other products I pulled the trigger. I have NOT been disappointed.

This has taken any abuse with stride. I mean ANY… it was returned to me today after I left it on my trucks brush guard while working on said truck. Where the neighbor found it tells a story. It was a half mile from my house and I had to have been going almost 80 mph when this thing decided it wanted to fly! I can just imagine it flying through the air. Still blaring death metal while its trajectory carried it to an uncertain fate. Like Palpatine from Star Wars, some how it survived! The only signs of its ill fated voyage are a bent clip and a few new dings and scratches. I have since powered it up, and to my surprise, it came to life and connected to my phone as if nothing had happened! Still able to blast away my favorite tunes.

In short it’s fantastic sound and now obviously VERY RUGGED durability have sold me on this model. And I couldn’t suggest it more.

I love this little Pill

The sound is traditional, no fail JBL. The sound quality is A1. The video doesn't do it justice but. This will be awesome while I sing in the shower, or traveling.

Very good!

My car audio system had issues and couldn't play, so I bought this portable speaker as a temporary substitute. Surprisingly, the playback quality is quite good—I really like it!

A tremendous value!!

This is a whole lot of bang for your buck!!! If you're in doubt I would say just try it. The sound is surprisingly crisp/clear and its nice shape makes a good fit in the palm of your hand, you can take it pretty much anywhere. It doesn't have an insane amount of bass but I think the bass and the volume is really adequate for what most people want.

I have never had any problem with Bluetooth connectivity, it connects really reliably and really well. I like to play the news or music on it and I can still hear it well from across the room. But since I like things to be really loud I will carry it around with me from one spot to the other, and it's not annoying to carry around the way traditional speakers would be. You could even put it in a little pouch you wear around your waist or clip it to your jeans or something, if you want it to follow you around that way. I also really like that it's waterproof. There might be Ultra loud speakers out there for more money but I was looking for something on a budget and I'm very happy with it.

Serviceable waterproof speaker with tiny clip and literally overwhelming bass

I bought this exclusively to listen to music from my phone in the shower, so I didn't have high expectations. On that count, it's perfectly adequate: it's a functional waterproof Bluetooth speaker at a reasonable price.

I've only had it for 5 days, so I can't yet comment meaningfully on the battery, but it took a little over 2 hours to charge fully out of the box off a 2.1 A plug, so I see no compelling reason to doubt the claims of 10 hours.

Build quality feels quite solid, but I was a little annoyed with the positively *tiny* aperture for the titular carabiner clip: as you can see in my attached photo, the opening is less than ⅝", which is *just barely* wide enough to fit around the flexible metal hose of my shower head. I'm evidently fairly fortunate on that count, as I'd be more than a little angry if it were unsuitable for the one purpose for which I bought it.

Sound quality is crisp and clear, but the EQ is something that - quite frankly - will be a matter of personal taste. Most of the other reviews rave about how powerful the bass is; while that's inarguably correct, I personally find it a massive shortcoming for my purposes and tastes. All the more so when, with the white noise of the running water in the shower, I basically get no mid or treble whatsoever. I can live with it, but it's not to my liking.

EDIT 2½ YEARS LATER:

Due to my specific usage patterns, it's been a bit difficult to pin down a precise battery life estimate, but I now feel like that 10 hours claimed is perhaps a tad aspirational. I have to charge it roughly every 14 days off probably a little less than half an hour of use per day on average.

Related: the waterproof rubber flap covering the USB micro and AUX ports broke off at its base along an extremely flimsy rubber seam where it joined the housing at some point after about 6-9 months. It still "works," insofar as the speaker remains waterproof - except now that separate piece has to be watched carefully (like any sort of "cap") while charging lest it disappear and never be waterproof again. Not exactly stellar build quality, all things considered, but the whole thing is still perfectly functional, so I guess there's that?

This thing is a tank!

After years of use, my original JBL Clip's battery life cycle had come to its end. I purchased this as a replacement for it and it did not disappoint in the least.

The thing I loved most about the Clip was its durability. I've dropped it down stairs, lost it overnight once on a mountain trail and stepped on it several times getting out of the shower. (You can see the dents in the comparison pics) This upgrade takes that to an entirely new level, as the carabiner itself it a single, solid metal ring that wraps around and under the entire device, creating a strong lock when clipped in.

I did NOT know that it was waterproof when I ordered it, but as I show in the pictures, the design of the ports have changed and are now behind a thick rubber "plug" that creates a watertight seal.

The battery lasted for over 24 hours OUT OF THE BOX at medium volume.

As for the sound... it's JBL. It's amazing.

j.j. jewelle

Clear sound. Works just as great when placed under shower head.

I couldn’t play it while it was ran under the water, but know it played just fine after I hit play. As mentioned in one of the other reviews, it won’t attach to a regular sized shower rack, so you should buy a shower caddy to hang it on. Okay, I’m going back to my shower now.

Satisfaction. Reached?

Very nice device, straight up feels like I'm holding a dragonball radar when I'm holding it in my hand, love the feel and is definitely water proof, straight out of the box and in the wash. Handle it well, sound was crisp, even when wet and dialogue was clear along with music and back ground sounds. Clip is cool solid enough, I do like the rubber texture it has going with in the clip, didn't catch it in the previous reviews, how ever I am knocking a star off because the clip is rather small, would be awesome if they had incorporated an additional carabinier or something similar to what I rigged up, re-used a rope handle from a water jug case I don't use anymore, digress aside, the small opening didn't allow it to hook up to my bicycle handle bar as planned so I had luckily got it to grip around the brake cables, but not a desirable fix, so luckily for me I had this but for other consumers, I hope they have a spare carabinier. But all in all, definitely satisfied with the quality, have not made any phone calls with it, so will try that out and repost back, but music, very nice. Handles classic rock, metal, alt, and classic hip hop, and electronic music well. Bass is nice bump. And yeah, hope this helps🍻✌️

Jewel

Fantastic quality speaker for the price, maybe not as loud as some people would like

Let me start by saying I love this speaker. I work at Walmart and we have these for $59, and only in black, camo, and silver. I’ve been wanting one for a while so I decided to go on here and check for cheaper prices first. Boy, am I glad I did! Not only was I able to get these for a good $20 cheaper, but in my favorite color; pink!

These are very good quality speakers, the first thing I did when I got mine was throw it in the pool to see if it was really waterproof like it says. I only left it in there for about a minute because I just wanted to hurry up and listen to music, but it does indeed float and no piece of hardware seems to have suffered as a result (there’s a rubber piece that covered the aux and charging port, and I worried that water might deep in after so long. But that appears to have not been the case). So if you’re thinking of taking one of these to go casually canoeing or kayaking, I would definitely recommend it, just so long as you’re not going white water rafting or anything intense (the speaker is pretty small and can fit in the palm of your hand, so it might get lost a bit too easily in rapids even if it does float).

Now, onto the sound. The sound quality itself is - in my opinion - about what you’d expect from JBL. Very pristine and clear, no lags or sudden disconnections from Bluetooth like some speakers have. The volume honestly doesn’t get all that high, even with your phone and the speakers’ volume at full max. However, it’s plenty loud enough for normal folk to enjoy while you’re swimming, hiking, boating, working, or whatever. Though when you take into consideration its small size, I am honestly impressed with how loud it gets. So if you’re wanting something compact that you can blast the neighbors out of house and home with, this definitely isn’t for you.

Now the clip. Let’s face it, the thing that probably attracts us most about this speaker is the fact it has a built-in clip for you to take it wherever you want; portable music! And it honestly accomplishes that feat really really well. A lot of cheaper clips won’t stay straight when you try to hook them onto things, and you have to physically move it back into place to fully ‘hook’. Not this thing. I’ve hooked it onto doorknobs, backpacks, the belt loops of my jeans...I’ve never had to readjust. Just clip and go. And for that reason alone I feel this thing is a keeper.

The battery life is supposed to be around 10 hours, and I honestly haven’t used it a WHOLE lot so far but it feels like it lasts longer to me. That may be just because I’ve been using it for a few hours on and off and not for the 10 hours straight, but the battery still lasts a good while. I got about 8-9 hours right out of the box alone, with no charging.

The ONLY thing that bugs me about this thing are the tiny, almost microscopic rubber nubbies on the bottom. I know they’re probably there for traction or whatever if you set it down on something, but they really irritate me to feel against my skin when I’m holding or carrying it. However it’s a small thing that’s definitely not a dealbreaker, and 90% of the time it’s gonna be hooked to something and not rubbing against my skin anyways. So other than that little thing this speaker is 100% gold to me!

Basics overall:

1. Sound quality: 9/10

2. Volume: 7/10

3. Portability: 10/10

4. Waterproofness: 10/10 (though granted, I haven’t extensively tested this one, how long are you really gonna leave this thing in the water?)

5. Battery life: 10/10

6. Color: 10/10 (I know the pink looks terrible in the photos I provided, but I took them at nighttime under a *very* yellow light. Under normal lighting conditions it looks just like the stock photo)
