My New Favorite Workout Headphones JBL Endurance Pace Open Ear Headphones

JBL Endurance Pace - Open-Ear Sport Headphones

PROS: Sound quality great, comfortable, lightweight, perfect for my needs: headset that I can use while riding my bike so I can enjoy my music AND be aware of sounds in my surroundings. My first purchase of OPEN EAR design headphones - doesn't hurt my ear canals (like in-ear design ones do.) As you can see in my photo, my straight-arm sunglasses fit easily over the headphones with no issues/discomfort/my sunglasses stay put. Pairs easily with my iphone.

CONS: none so far, like this product. Great for biking. Haven't tried them on yet for running/jogging yet though.

(Just to let you know, I've purchases BOSE, JBL, Sennheiser audio products before.)

They don't fit as they should

The sound is excellent, as always with JBL, but there's a problem: the fit is very uncomfortable. They slip out of my ear every time I turn my head. I think the bridge is too small; it should come in two different sizes to choose from, like the Shockz Openrun Pro. Also, the ear hooks are too flexible and don't stay in place. Please fix this. I've only been using them for two days and I'm already disappointed. I feel like they're going to fall out every second.

Good Headphones, But Take Some Getting Used To

These headphones are pretty good overall, especially for working out and staying active. I really like the open-ear design because I can still hear what’s going on around me while listening to music or podcasts. They also feel secure and are convenient for exercising.

That said, they took a little getting used to. The sound is different from traditional in-ear headphones, and I don’t find them quite as immersive. They’re also not something I would necessarily choose when I want the best possible sound quality.

Overall, they work well for what they’re designed for and are a good option for workouts and outdoor activities. I’m happy with them, but there are a few things that keep them from being a full 5 stars for me.

Comfortable and Secure Headphones with Decent Sound

I've been using these headphones for a few weeks now mostly during my morning commute and at the gym. These are exactly what you would expect from a pair of sport headphones.

Let me start off by saying these headphones are comfortable! Open-ear headphones can be hit or miss for me because I need to wear glasses on top of them. Thankfully, I did not experience any pressure points or chafing around my ears. On top of that, these headphones also feel very secure. I didn’t find myself readjusting them much during workouts. Their small size really helps them hug your head securely.

Sound quality is decent. Bass is very lacking, which is unfortunate because you typically want those high-energy bass tracks when pushing yourself at the gym. To be fair, it’s difficult to get good bass from this type of open-ear headphone, so it’s understandable. Sound isolation is basically non-existent. You hear everything around you, but conversely, people around you can also hear what you’re listening to.

The controls are easy to press, and connectivity was solid. Pairing them with my phone was very straightforward. Battery life is also decent, more than enough to last me a whole day. I just wish they had included some sort of case or pouch with the headphones. You also don’t get a USB cable for charging, though that’s not a huge issue since most people already own a USB-C cable.

Overall, these are a solid pair of open-ear sport headphones and a good pick even for day-to-day use.

Great every day product from jbl. Extension of my phone

Another very impressive product from JBL! Absolutely love these. Ive become an audiophile as of 2 years ago. JBL is my go to brand for audio listening or talking on the phone. These sound fantastic while allowing you to hear your surroundings very well. As of lately im growing tired of using ear buds every day. They sound great but the bud in my ear annoys me after a while. These are a way better option for me. Ive worked out with them, they stay snug and secure while lifting weights or running, ive used them as hands free while driving my manual transmission jeep, and now ive been using them for gaming on my laptop while sitting on the couch with my wife. They are just flat out useful. I would grab a pair of these just for the fact they are almost like a tool and an extension of my cell phone almost. The sound quality is fantastic too considering what they are. You cant put these on expecting super bass and punchy highs and mids but the quality of sound is definitely there. The loudness its capable of is impressive too but you loose the ability to hear your surroundings. Seriously for what these cost, just buy them if your in the market for something like this. I use these for my day to day activities mostly. Playing video games is pretty impressive you can hear everything you need to while hearing your surroundings. The value for the money on these is unbelievable, easy to use with only 3 buttons on the side and battery life is great so far. They look great and hardly noticeable. I have the shokz as well and they work great but the vibrations kind of tickle and annoy you where this one is just comfortable.

Comfortable Open-Ear Headphones Great for Workouts

I bought the JBL Endurance Pace open-ear sport headphones because I wanted something comfortable and secure for walking, workouts, and outdoor activity. Overall, I have been very pleased with them. The open-ear design is one of the best features because it lets me enjoy my music while still being aware of what is happening around me. That is especially helpful when exercising outside or in places where you want to stay alert.

The memory wire neckband does a great job of keeping the headphones in place. They feel secure without being too tight, and they stay comfortable even during longer sessions. I also like that they are lightweight, so they do not feel bulky or distracting while moving around.

Sound quality is solid for a sport headphone. The audio is clear, and the bass is decent enough to keep music energetic during workouts. They may not replace premium over-ear headphones, but for exercise and everyday active use, they do the job very well.

The build quality also feels durable, which is important for a product designed for fitness. If you want a dependable pair of sport headphones that are comfortable, stable, and let you stay aware of your surroundings, these are a very good option.

Incredible sound, comfort and utility!

These JBL sport headphones met and exceeded my expectations. The XC ski every day and these are my new favorite headphones. I am switching from AirPods to these. Excellent for endurance sports.

The sound is excellent! They stay in place and are comfortable even with a hat. So much easier to use than AirPods while doing sports.

They stay charged for a long time, easy to put on and stay in place. Love the ergonomic design.

Lasted 5 months

UPDATE: Disappointed these did not last. One side started going out a few weeks ago and sound was very fuzzy. Today they stopped working all together. For the $90 price these should have lasted more than 5 months.

JBL is my go to for all my speakers, ear buds, and headphones. So I may be a bit biased, but the Endurance Pace is my new favorite! Only good things to say with one potential downside. It does not come with a charging cable. It has a USBC charging port, if you don't already have a cable this could be a challenge. I have way too many already so I personally appreciate that I don't have another one added to the clutter.

Pros

- So comfortable, the band around my neck, the loops around the ears, and especially the open ear design. Ear buds have always caused me irritation, these are amazing.

- Excellent sound and call quality. When my husband calls me from his JBL Tune ear buds I can't make out a word he's saying. When he calls me from these it's totally clear.

- Max volume is loud, like can't hear my husband from 2 feet away from me.

- I expected it to be similar to a speaker, where anyone around you would also be able to hear what you're playing. It's not at all, I'd compare it to over the ear headphones, if it's blasting then someone close by can probably hear it a little bit, at a mid volume or loud places you wouldn't be disturbing anyone.

- The silicone material is soft and feels high quality.

- There are buttons on the headset for quick actions without pulling out your phone.

- Stays put, they don't fall off or slip when working out or casual use

- long battery life, lasting around 16hrs of play time

Overall I feel the $90 price matches the quality and the brand. Perfect headphones if earbuds irritate your ears. And great option if you like to stay aware of your surroundings.

Surprisingly Comfortable, Secure, and So Much Better Than In-Ear Buds

I use Bluetooth earpieces almost daily for online classes and audio on my Calm app. This JBL Endurance Pace has honestly been a game changer for me. Unlike my other brand’s in-ear Bluetooth headset that constantly slips out and sounds just okay, this one is incredibly comfortable because it doesn’t sit inside the ear canal at all - it rests just outside, and the memory wire neckband feels soft, flexible, and secure (almost like wearing glasses backwards). I really appreciate that the speakers are clearly marked R and L, setup took only seconds, and once it’s on, I can walk away from my desk during class without touching or readjusting anything. The sound quality genuinely impressed me too - clear, full, and much better than I expected for an open-ear style, and surprisingly the person right next to me still can’t really hear what I’m listening to. This is absolutely worth the investment for comfort, stability, and everyday use.

Good, but only for individuals with specific needs.

I go through a lot of headphones and the design on this one caught my interest. In theory, this should be really comfortable and free my ears from having something blocking my hearing. In practice though, it gets a lot more complicated.

The sound on the speakers it produces is pretty good but due to the design, you lose out on a lot of the bass. Since the speakers sit right outside the ear, all the low end is lost. The closer they are to your ears, the better, but still not as good as being in the ear. The behind the neck design also makes the speakers shift a bit as you move your head.

The other issue I have with these are the alternatives available. I’ve tried bone conduction earbuds before and sound just about as good as this concept, if not better. You also don’t end up sharing the sound with your neighbors as loudly. You might as well just play sound from your phone speaker and hold it near your ear. Unless you have a very specific case where you need this type of set up, I’d look at alternatives first. These will work, but there’s probably better out there for you.

Great Headset On The Go!

Hey commentators, I ordered the JBL Endurance Pace - Open-Ear Sport Headphones with Memory Wire Neckband, Water & dust Proof (IP68), 2 beamforming mics, up to 10 Hours of Music, Hands-Free Calls and Music Management (Black/Grey) and received this item 2 weeks ago. As a long-time user of JBL products, ranging from speakers to various audio devices, I already had high expectations and was not disappointed.

Well packaged, right out of the box, the headphones are well-protected, and inside the box, I found clear printed embedded instructions on how to use the device along with a physical manual and a handy bag holder. The headphones are very light and smaller than an actual adult hand. When it comes to fit, the JBL Endurance Pace headphones require a bit of attention. It's essential to ensure you're placing them correctly. The symbols for Left (L) and Right (R) on the end pieces guide you to fit them over your ears, rather than inserting them into your ear canal. I found that once positioned correctly, they fit securely! (Check images below) I tested them while walking, laying down, and even shaking my head vigorously, and not once did they fall out. I did notice that when wearing a scarf that brushed against the headphones, they could slip off. So, being mindful of how you wear additional gear with them. Another bonus points the box also stated it is water and dust proof resistance that I have not tested out yet.

Now, let's talk about performance. The sound quality is impressive. When I turned up the volume, I was completely immersed in my music, with virtually no outside noise creeping in. Furthermore, the battery life is phenomenal, the headphones charged in less than an hour and a half, providing me close to 10 hours of music. I also had no issues with Bluetooth connectivity; they paired effortlessly and appeared as "JBL Endurance" on my device. The JBL app adds an extra layer of convenience for managing settings. I have also used the device when placing a couple of calls, hands free, very clear and loud. No issues.

Overall, the price of $89.00, I wholeheartedly believe these headphones are a solid investment. With JBL's strong track record for quality products, I had confidence in my ordering. I highly recommend for comfort, durability, and high-performance headphones.

These are very nice!

I like these open-ear sport headphones quite a bit!

Setup was straightforward. When I first connected them to my phone, the companion app for the JBL Endurance Pace was automatically suggested on my Android device (a Samsung Galaxy S24+). The app detected the headphones immediately and offered a firmware update, which installed without any trouble. The app itself feels polished and easy to navigate. It includes an equalizer and a few basic controls, though I ultimately preferred to leave the sound profile flat rather than using the EQ presets.

Sound quality is clear and crisp for a product in this category. These use an open-ear design with the drivers sitting just outside the ear canal rather than sealing inside it. That means the sound is naturally more airy and less isolated than traditional headphones. Mids and highs come through cleanly and speech is easy to understand. Bass is present but limited. That is simply the tradeoff with open-ear designs because there is no sealed chamber to build low frequency pressure. Most music still sounds balanced enough because the upper bass region around roughly 60 to 120 Hz is reproduced reasonably well if a bit softly, but deep bass is completely missing.

The equalizer in the app defaults to a bass-boosted preset that lifts the low mids. In my testing that actually reduced clarity without meaningfully improving bass. Turning the EQ off entirely gave the cleanest overall sound and is how I ended up using them.

Volume capability is adequate. On my phone about 60 percent volume is the upper limit of comfortable long term listening. That suggests the maximum output is already near safe listening levels, which makes sense for open-ear sport headphones designed to be used outdoors. Because your ears remain open to the environment, outside noise is always present and there can be a temptation to raise the volume, but in practice these get loud enough for running or walking while still allowing environmental awareness.

Durability also seems good so far. These carry an IP68 rating, which means they are designed to tolerate dust, sweat, and water exposure. For workout gear that is an important feature. The lightweight neckband frame also holds its shape well and stays comfortable during movement.

Charging is simple and uses standard 5 volt USB power. A charger or cable is not included, but at this point most people already have plenty of USB ports and adapters available, so that did not bother me.

Overall these feel like a straightforward mass market sport headphone done well. They are not trying to compete with high end audio gear, and they are not meant to replace closed headphones or a full speaker system. Instead they focus on convenience, comfort, and situational awareness during activity. Within that role they deliver clear sound, reliable connectivity, and solid durability. The design is somewhat barebones, but in this case that simplicity actually suits the product very well.

Good Sound for Open-Ear Headphones, But Missing a Few Accessories

These open-ear sport headphones are designed to let you listen to music while still hearing your surroundings, which is ideal for running, biking, or walking outside. Instead of sitting inside your ears, the speakers rest just in front of them, attached to a lightweight memory-wire neckband that wraps around the back of your head.

The overall build feels solid and well suited for workouts. The flexible memory-wire neckband keeps its shape and the IP68 rating gives some peace of mind when it comes to sweat, rain, or dusty outdoor conditions. Battery life is rated at around 10 hours, which is fairly typical for open-ear sport headphones. That should cover several workouts between charges, though some newer models on the market are starting to push beyond that.

Sound quality:

For this type of design, the sound quality is surprisingly good. Compared with bone-conduction models like the Shokz OpenRun Pro, these deliver noticeably fuller audio. The speakers are fairly large for such a compact unit, and they push a lot of sound.

Bass is stronger than I expected for an open-ear design. Because there’s no seal around your ears, you don’t get the deep, physical impact you might feel with closed-back headphones, but the bass is definitely present and easy to hear.

Overall the sound is rich and fairly open. Music generally sounded good, though certain voices or treble-heavy content could occasionally feel a little sharp depending on what I was listening to. Videos also sounded slightly less balanced compared to music but this is without using an EQ or the app to tweak the sound. The app lets you customize the sound and also has a dedicated video mode which seems to improve this issue.

Positioning matters quite a bit. If the speakers are angled correctly toward your ears, you get much better volume and clarity. It can take a little adjustment to get them just right.

Comfort and fit:

The lightweight memory-wire neckband fits snugly and stays in place well. However, if you wear glasses (like I do), getting everything positioned comfortably can take a little extra adjustment. This is fairly common with this style of headphone since the arms and speaker pods sit near the same area as eyeglass frames.

Once positioned correctly, they’re comfortable enough for longer listening sessions.

App and features:

The companion app (JBL Headphones) adds a lot of useful features. You can customize the EQ, update firmware, and switch between audio and video modes. The headphones worked fine out of the box, but there was a firmware update available that installed quickly and smoothly.

There’s also a “Relax Mode” with several ambient sounds you can mix together and set on a timer. It’s a surprisingly nice feature if you want background noise for winding down after a workout.

Another feature is called PulseDry, which is designed to help remove moisture from the speakers after workouts or exposure to water. I didn’t test this feature personally, but it’s an interesting addition considering the headphones carry an IP68 rating. That rating means they are fully dustproof and designed to handle sweat, rain, splashes, and even brief submersion in water without damage. It’s reassuring for outdoor workouts or humid environments.

Controls:

These use physical buttons, which I appreciate, but the placement could be better. The buttons sit very close together, and I often accidentally pressed the play/pause button when trying to adjust the volume. After some use I started to get used to it, but the spacing could definitely be improved.

What’s missing:

A couple of things feel oddly absent at this price point.

First, there’s no charging cable included. USB-C cables are common these days, but it still feels like something that should have been included.

Second, there’s no real storage case. The headphones come with a small fabric sleeve that mainly protects them inside the box, but it’s not really designed for long-term storage or protection. A simple hard case like the one included with the Shokz OpenRun Pro would have made the package feel more complete.

Overall:

These deliver surprisingly strong sound for open-ear headphones, with good volume, solid bass presence, and a lot of customization through the app. They’re a good option for workouts or outdoor activities where hearing your surroundings is important.

A charging cable and a proper storage case would have been nice additions, and the button layout could be improved. Still, the sound quality and feature set make them a solid choice if you’re specifically looking for open-ear headphones.

Great for workouts and a good alternative to Shokz

These headphones with the wire neckband design work really well for running and workouts. They stay comfortable while moving and let you hear your surroundings, which is great for outdoor activities.

They are IP68, so sweat or rain isn’t an issue. Compared to Shokz, they’re cheaper but do basically the same thing, making them a solid option if you want open-ear headphones without paying the higher price.

Comfortable, Great Sound, and Perfect for Active Use

I’m really happy with these JBL open-ear sport headphones! They fit well and are surprisingly comfortable, even with glasses, long hair, and some piercings. For me, I do need to keep my hair pulled up for the best fit, especially when wearing glasses, but once I do, they sit nicely and stay put. Both my husband and teenage son tried them too and they have slightly larger head sizes. These headphones fit them better but, still work well for me. It would be nice if they were adjustable for an even more customized fit, but they’re already very wearable.

The sound is exactly what I expect from JBL: clear, strong, and enjoyable. Even though they’re open-ear and not noise-canceling, the audio quality is impressive. You can still hear conversations around you, which is great for outdoor use or staying aware of your surroundings, but the music is still rich and satisfying.

Pairing them with my device was easy (sometimes too easy; there were a few times they connected while powered off until I adjusted my Bluetooth settings). The JBL app is intuitive for adjusting sound settings to get the perfect listening experience.

I’ve used them for yoga, walking, and general all-day wear, and they stay in place comfortably without causing pressure or fatigue. Once you figure out the best way to wear them with your hair, they’re fantastic.

Overall, I absolutely love these headphones! They are quickly becoming my favorite and my go-to headphones to grab. They’re comfortable, sound excellent, and work really well for active lifestyles. I would highly recommend these for anyone!

Decent Product with High Price Tag

At first glance, I definitely thought these were bone conduction earphones, especially when looking at the price point. So I was confused when I tried the earphones on and they were not that. With that said, that is more on me but still a little deceiving.

Quality of the headphones are decent. They are pretty comfortable. With that said, the wire is NOT stiff at all. The reason I bring this up is because when you move around for a bit the earphones fall off so they aren’t really able to be fitted well. Sound quality is good, but not great in a public setting, you have to significantly raise the volume to hear your music. The app does provide controls and has even a white noise function which is nice as I usually am able to lay down with these earphones as long as I don’t move too much.

Packaging is VERY bare bones, it only comes with the headphones and the guides. Overall, the build is decent, but with the price of the product it under delivers.

Comfortable Fit with Strong Sound, Just Best with Hair Up

These fit great and are very comfortable to wear. For me, I do have to keep my hair pulled up or place them under my hair to get them sitting right, but once they’re in place, they feel secure and comfortable enough for longer wear.

The sound is strong and clear, which I was happy with for open-ear headphones. There is some sound blockage from the way they sit, but it is not true sound canceling. You can still stay aware of what is going on around you, which is part of the point with this style.

I also really like the EQ options in the app. Being able to adjust the sound a little makes a difference and helps get a better listening experience, depending on what you are using them for.

Overal,l these are comfy, sound good, and work especially well once you figure out the best way to wear them with your hair.

Great open ear headphones for jogging, biking, and just relaxing

Overall a very good product. The JBL brand is of course recognized as quality. I've found these to be easy to set up/connect and use. I also personally like 'hard' buttons. They have 3 buttons for on/off, vol+ -, and if you hold the vol buttons for 3 seconds, the + goes to the next song or - goes to previous. I have earbuds that you touch for controls, but I never seem to touch the right spot. Sound quality is also very good with the open-air format, and as such you will hear some background noise but that's what they are designed for. I do wonder sometimes when someone has their earbuds in while jogging but can't hear something that could be dangerous around them. These are over-the-neck style and are okay for comfort. I've found that if I'm using them while wearing reading glasses, that it gets a little tight on top of the ear. (yes, they are best used while jogging, biking, etc.) The 10-hour battery time is more than adequate. It's also good that they are water resistant, (not waterproof however). The app is quite good, as you can change your playback sound type and change other options. They are on the higher end pricewise when compared to basic earbuds, and that's probably not a fair comparison, as these aren't the same thing. I've got basic earbuds that I paid less than $30 for that sound about as good. I can tell however, that these are very high-quality headphones.

Great Sound, Just Wish the Fit Was Adjustable

I’m really impressed with the sound quality on these headphones. The audio is clear, balanced, and loud enough without distortion, and the bass has a nice depth without being overwhelming. Voices and music both come through crisp, which makes them great for podcasts, calls, and playlists. They’re also very comfortable to wear for extended periods around the house.

My one downside is the fit. The back band isn’t adjustable, so they sit a little larger than I’d prefer. Because of that, they don’t feel secure enough for me to use while riding my bike. That said, they’re perfect for home use, relaxing, doing chores, or working. Battery life and overall performance have been solid so far. If you want strong sound and comfort for casual use, these are a great option.

Great sound, average comfort

5 stars- great sound, excellent bass and range. Really like the sound a lot. The headphones are excellent quality and have a very nice feel to the. The setup is compact and efficient. I also like the buttons. You know when you hit one. I like over the ear headphones and these have the best sound and volume I have found. They connect very quickly and easily.

3 stars- comfort. I have a medium size head and the out pressure on my ears which became uncomfortable after an hour or so. Also the back support tended to drop down so it felt funny when I turned my head. I could feel them on and this feeling never went away.

Great Over the Ear Headphones

Yes great name brand and great quality. I have a few JBL items and I’m pleased with them all. These are comfortable, they stay in place while working, running or just being active. The sound quality is nice too. Sounds really clear even with road noise. The battery lasted just about all day. I had to charge my phone before I had to charge these headphones. Very happy with them!
