A Great Machine for my needs
I was looking for a device that could play my dvd/blu-rays while on my boat for this summer. Since there wasn't many options to fit my needs I decided to give Krovatar a chance. (there is a similar device that TikTok keeps showing me but it doesn't have a blu-ray player and the reliability/reviews don't seem very good) On paper it seems like a good fit and with a couple of weeks of use I have an opinion. Does it fit my needs perfectly?...No. But it comes close. I like the size and ease of use. The blu-ray player it self seems to be top notch and I haven't had any problems with the two dozen discs I've thrown in it. I had some questions about the dimming/brightness so I contacted customer support and they were quick to respond and got me on the right track/plus what I needed. The screen is decent in dim/dark atmosphere. In bright daytime viewing it's less so even with the brightness to full. The remote and buttons on the side back are pretty standard and work as they should. The speakers are the biggest disappointment and do not give the movies clarity especially during speech. If they were on the front side instead of the back maybe they would be better. I tried to hook up my Bose Bluetooth speaker but it only works if I have my iPad connected via the usb-c. My iPad then sends the sound to the Bose speaker via Bluetooth. I have ordered an Anker speaker with 3.5mm connector so I'm hoping that will take care of the sound problem. While my iPad is connected via usb-c watching movies via streaming was simple and worked great. I've also used my Roku in the HDMI port and hooked it up to my wifi and it also worked well but then the sound becomes an issue because I'm relying on the speakers on the device. The software is pretty basic and does what it's supposed to. I wish there was a case to transport it instead of the box that it came in but the box is quite sturdy and has foam to keep everything secure. Since I'm on a boat providing protection while underway is vital. And for those who care the device was pulling about 15W off my battery bank on AC. Should see if there is a DC adapter but 15 is very reasonable.
Overall: B+
Screen: B (less in daylight)
Speakers: C (hoping 3.5mm connected speakers resolves that)
Ease of use: A
Weight: B
Blu-ray player: A
Customer Support: A+
Overall, its a very good start but would like to see improvements in the speakers, outdoor/light situations for viewing, a carrying case, onboard battery so I'm not regulated to a electrical plug, wifi connectivity on the device to allow apps for streaming but tablet connectivity works fine. I'm very satisfied with the device and the customer support is excellent.
