This lava lamp works just as it should but its advertised as "purple fluid with orange wax" but it is actually clear fluid with white wax.
Now mind you... I'm keeping it because I actually like the subtle color. But it is not as advertised. In fact it was an open package purchase as well. I bet the previous buyer returned it due to it not being as advertised.

It does the lava lamp thing, but it’s very cloudy. Would recommend different color combo.

Mine came in in pretty good shape, I attached a picture of how mine looked straight out of the box. Mine looked very slightly cloudy, but I thought it looked fine, so I fired it up. I really liked how it looked after it started flowing and found the slight cloudiness looked perfect. I really enjoy watching it and find myself glancing at it constantly.
I've had it now for a little over a week now, and it's still perfect. I loved it so much I bought another lamp (it's a blue one this time) that I can't wait to receive. I hope the next one is as good as this one!

My lamp is beautiful! It’s clear and works perfectly. It took about 4 hours to completely warm up.

This is super cloudy!!! I have tried everything and it won’t clear up. Save your money and do not buy this product

Arrived three weeks after ordering with cloudy water as some of the other reviews have said.

The size of the lamp is awesome. The movement of the wax is great. The wax color is pretty too, but the fluid is so cloudy/murky that its hard to see the wax all the way through the bottle. Another review mentioned that you would have to filter the liquid to see improved results, and they are correct. The lamp took a while to ship to begin with, so it was disappointing to have my suspicions that the liquid would be cloudy confirmed upon reviving the lamp after two and a half weeks. I've ran it three times for about 5 hours each time and while the wax flow improved greatly per cycle the liquid clarity has not improved.
This lamp would be a great purchase if you are willing to put in the work to filter the lamp liquid a few times. (or if you're lucky to get a clearer liquid from the manufacturer) In the future I definitely would try to only buy a lava lamp in person so you can inspect the lamp before purchasing.

After just a month it's just a big ball inside that doesn't move or flow around. The picture is after 5 hours of being on.

Look at color of this lava, with a mix of yellow and red, truly spectacular use of motion and color. Creates the ambiance with a variety of color options and motions. Sometimes it’s yellow orange and other times it’s red. 😎

It worked great until it didn't. Now it looks like a chernobyl disaster went off inside. I was told they could swap it out after the cold weather ends since that messes with the lava lamps in shipment - bummer!

As a child of an Air Force family, I grew up with the real deal. My father brought our original lava lamps directly from Japan, and they were marvels of mid-century engineering. In those days, you’d flick a switch, and within ten minutes, the "lava" was dancing in a mesmerizing display. Sadly, this modern iteration feels like a pale imitation of those childhood memories.
The most glaring issue is the efficiency. While the vintage models used high-wattage, spotlight-style bulbs that got things moving almost instantly, this new version relies on a 40-watt bulb that simply isn't up to the task. It took over an hour just to heat up, and even then, the movement was sluggish and underwhelming. The "magic" is hard to find when the lava barely moves.
The craftsmanship has clearly taken a hit over the decades:
Materials: The base and cap are made of incredibly thin aluminum that feels flimsy to the touch.
Design Flaws: The top cap doesn’t secure to the globe at all; it just rests there. This makes it prone to sitting crookedly or falling off entirely with the slightest bump.
For the price being charged today, I expected a premium decorative piece that captured the quality of the originals. Instead, this feels like a budget reproduction. Between the slow warm-up time and the lackluster motion, it’s hard to justify the cost. If you're looking for the vibrant, high-quality experience of the lamps from years ago, you may be disappointed.

I purchased the 16.3” 52oz lava lamp at the end of October. By the end of November it stopped functioning. It will still make the long columns while it’s warming up, but once it’s warmed up the lava just sits at the bottom like it’s going to make orbs, but it doesn’t. I’ve done all the troubleshooting, I even bought a dimmer adapter and a higher wattage bulb, but it didn’t help. So basically it was used a handful of times, and it’s headed to the trash already. I had a lava lamp in the early 2000’s, and it worked for almost 20 years, until it got knocked over. These aren’t the same quality lava lamps that were sold in the past.

I love my lamp it’s clear.

Box came torn up, lava lamp came very cloudy. We kept it on for hours hoping it would correct but did not.

Product came out of the package very foggy. After cycling it on and off every 6 hours for a week it still didn’t clear up. I really doubted the issue to be resolved by getting a replacement so I decided to filter the liquid myself using a lifestraw. Looks great now, but I was extremely disappointed to have paid for a product that I had to spend extra time and money to fix.

Yeah listen to the other reviews about the cloudiness- I did the buy a returned one option to save a little bit of money and this thing is damn near solid purple lol
Colin Barnes
Cloudy, but the flow is awesome. I originally intended it to be a donor lamp, and have its fluid and wax replaced. Now I think I'll just filter the fluid and enjoy it.

DO NOT BUY. These are not the lava lamps you are looking for. Mine came already foggy (some say cloudy), following the official remedy steps of the instructions does not fixes the issue. I'd even say it got worse. I advise to not risk it and look to buy elsewhere, thought eventually with time it'll probably get foggy anyway. Sent it back for a refund.
I read other's reviews here and I thought it wouldn't happen to me, yet here am I...

Stopped flowing after 2 months. Replacing the bulb and changing its location did not help, the wax inside basically gave up and refused to rise from the bottom anymore, as if it wasnt getting hot enough, but it was. Attached is a picture from when it WAS working...

A useless lava lamp has never worked right waste of money never again

Painted silver. Cap doesn’t quite fit on top. Feels cheaply made/put together-unlike the originals. The colors are pretty. Will keep looking.

I used to use a Lava Lamp in the geology courses I taught to explain convection in the upper mantle. I missed having one around. Now this graces my home office, and I couldn’t be happier.

My parents had a black lava lamp with the red wax. I was always fascinated by the slow rise and fall of the wax globs. This one is a mix of colors. I have it in my media room and it does its thing just like my parent’s lamp. Take note though because of the various color tints in the glass it may not appear as sharp as ones with the clear glass and liquid but looks really awesome to me.
Jim
Great purchase. Nice and big. Kept staring at it for hours. However, the lightbulb it came with was defective and I was forced to buy a replacement

This is a proper lava lamp. I've been trying to find one like I had when I was a kid and this is it. This one is very bright and colorful like the one I used to have. Like most lava lamps it takes a while to heat up, but that is to be expected since I bought the larger one. This one is exactly what I was looking for and I would definitely recommend it.
