Not just a toy, an actual instrument that fits little hands.

This is seriously so cute, and a real musical instrument. It being sized to small hands is amazing we bought it for our child's fourth birthday, but his one year old brother also loves strumming it as well. (He pulls it out to play with Jules on Ms Rachel, if you're a toddler parent, I'm sure you know!) We haven't used the app at all, but the flash cards are a nice extra.

Very disappointed. Poor quality. not safe and very overpriced

Overpriced for a toy plastic guitar. I thought it would be better quality for this price point. The metal edges are very sharp for little fingers. Not safe! My 3 year old used to obsessed with guitars and was disappointed that it did not feel like a real guitar. The concept was there but the quality is junk!

Nut fell off within 1 month

Gave this to our 4 year old on Christmas. He didn’t really get a chance to play with it until middle of January. The nut fell off somewhere in my house, strings still in tact, about 3 weeks in. Very sad as the kid is very good with the guitar. The string slides off the side of the neck daily.

Not worth $120. You can get a legitimate guitar for that price, I feel like this Chinese made product should be more like $50, then I wouldn’t feel as bad.

Kid still loves it which is why it gets 2 stars.

Made for little hands but NOT built for them!

Don’t waste your money! Very cute, but lasted a couple of plays over 2 months before the top of the guitar started coming off. When I reached out to Loog they suggested wood glue. For $100+ I think they should have used a bit more themselves!

Cool app, no culpability for quality of their product.

Let’s be real, you’re paying $90+ for a child’s guitar, the expectation Is that you’re getting a high quality item. Not only was the faceplate dislodged with a tiny piece of wood under the plate creating a bump, this thing needs to be retuned every time you open the app. There is no way these strings last through that sort of tension. I contacted customer service and was told what type of glue I should use to glue down the faceplate, I’m sorry I didn’t order a defective item, I paid for a premium product and that expectation should be met without me having to glue the faceplate on and dislodge whatever the heck is stuck in the existing adhesive. No apology was made, no accountability for their delivering an item that doesn’t meet their standards. As such, this is a poor value for the dollars spent. And an annoyance to return every other day. It is a cute toy and should be priced as such, stating it’s more than that is a gross exaggeration based off the “customer service” received.

This guitar looks to be easy to use and enjoyed.

We gave this to our 4.5 year old granddaughter. Her daddy plays guitar and I am excited for him to share his knowledge with her. It is small enough for her to handle and she is excited about it. Highly recommend.

Not impressed with durability

We bought this in the summer for our toddler and the headstock is already coming apart from the body of the guitar. It sounds nice, but I expected this product to be more durable for the price. It seems like it was barely glued together.

Looks Authentic

This was a gift for our grandson and he was thrilled. No idea how it plays or will hold up but it looks like a quality product for the price.

Well made, addictive little guitar for adults!

I am a guitar player of 30 years. Mando, Banjo, Uke as well. I wanted a little travel guitar but didn’t want to break the bank. Most guitars this size are toys with wooden fake frets and toy tuners. Not the LOOG! It is made like a real guitar with real frets and neck. Real tuners stay in tune (nylon so you gotta’ break ‘‘em in) Super sturdy guitar. Yes it’s small and sounds small but I don’t do many performances out in the woods or in my car so…This thing goes everywhere with me now! I love thinking through using only 3 strings. Can still do almost anything! One of these days I will let my kids play it, but this is mine and I loooove it!

Wow

This is a real instrument. Wow. It came in tune. Wow! My 16 month old son loves it, when mom and dad aren't playing it. So worth it.

Poor quality and service

Guitar looks okay but you can never tune it - it is always off key. The neck came apart from the body after day one from receiving it and I have yet to receive a refund after 4 weeks from reporting with their support email and website. Do not buy this junk.

UPDATE: Loog will not replace/assist. Very poor quality overall

This is a cute product, but I actually find it overpriced compared to the wide range of extremely cheap imported kids guitars, and it's definitely not of any better quality than them. You've got some manufactured ply, some very sharp little fret ends (definitely able to cut little hands), and some cheap plastic parts. I was not expecting too much, but I think it's really more like a $50 toy than an $80 toy. The neck on ours fell off pretty fast (pic included). I've glued it back on, we'll see if it sticks. App is OK. You'd be much better off getting a ukulele for $50-60. It will probably be a lot nicer to play and learn from, and the chord shapes are the same as on guitar, so it's good for kids.

Update: After gluing the neck back on, the neck pitch is wrong and the guitar no longer works. Not being a pro luthier, I guess this is to be expected. This is probably going in the trash. We'll see if the loog support team can help at all.

Second update: after a week of going back and forth with the Loog support team, they let me know they can not assist me at all.

Not for young kids

Not for little kids! I saw this darling guitar on so many blogger gift guides. I bought for my 4 year old and didn’t survive a year. It’s in the trash now.

Cool man... trippy!

Purchased two months ago. If I were a huffing parent, I could still be catching a buzz from the fumes.

I had it re-strung for a leftie, which requires flipping the bridge around, due to the different sized notches for the strings. The guitar shop said the flipped bridge was rounded differently in the new position, but that it wouldn't affect the sound any. They customize and service guitars for Sonny Landreth, so I figure they know what they are talking about.

BTW, fits perfectly in a uke case.

Not bad, but not great.

It’s alright. It looks good and it works well enough I won’t send it back. It’s small enough for my son to play with but won’t stay in tune for more than a few minutes. It’s is pretty fun though. If I had gotten my hands on it before purchasing I probably would have spent a little more and gotten an ukulele.

LOVE!

We aren’t musicians (yet) but our daughter has been asking for a guitar and pretending every you said guitar for months so we finally got this adorable guitar for her. Really well made, nicely packaged, and she is obsessed!

My Niece Loved it!

Bought this for my niece for Christmas. It is the cutest guitar and looks to be great quality to me. We have yet to dig into lessons but from what I can see from the app, there appears to be a lot of good information. She was so happy to get it. Started strumming right away. I even added her band logo to the front to match the drums I got her a few years back.

Beautiful Little Guitar, App & Flashcards Need Improvement

My little brother said, "It's pretty cool because it's a tiny guitar. 4 stars." I got the loog in white for my 6-year old brother. He's left-handed and there's no lefty loog. It's a good option for introducing a lefty to a righty guitar. The strings are soft and the chords sound sweet. The only complaints I have are with the app. There's a lot going on so it often crashes. Once you've unlocked a song, you have to go through the music video to see the chord progression. The chord diagrams in the lessons are good. The chord diagrams on the flashcards are completely different. I suggest loog changes the flashcards to look more like the tab on the 3-string neck.

Beautiful Starter Guitar for Mini Musicians

This is the perfect starter guitar for mini musicians in the making! The flash cards and app are easy to follow even for the preschool set and mine were so excited to start playing and felt accomplished right away! It would make a perfect Christmas gift for anyone interested in learning to play.

Dented Lacquer Upon Arrival

I was so excited to get this for my son and when I opened the box, I saw the lacquer was dented. Returning for a new one, which is hopefully damage free.

Just the right size for a toddler, with good sound and high-quality construction; still not a toy

SOUNDING GOOD is a real possibility with this guitar.

Other children's guitars are not really small enough for little kids, but more to the point, they're cheaply made, hard to tune, hard to keep them in tune, and they sound like garbage.

This little guitar is not only cute and well made, it SOUNDS GOOD.

Years ago we bought a little children's guitar. It was hard to tune, it didn't stay in tune for long, and it was not much fun to hear.

This little Loog is well made, but it is still a delicate musical instrument, not a toy, and should be treated with care. This is a real instrument. Handle it accordingly, not like it's like a plastic Fisher Price.

I love the flash cards that come with this guitar -- diagrams of the finger placements and the note names -- a little cutesy, maybe, but whatever it takes to help kids memorize notes!

Apparently too many personal details...? I thought it was relevant to mention our offspring with their 1/8 size Suzuki violin and tiny Jupiter flute with a curved head joint for a little five-year-old. Finding a **guitar** in small sizes was about impossible until now.

Our grandson at age two is already wanting to get his hands on Grandpa's guitars, just as his mom before him did. We had three kids age 4, 10, and 12 on Suzuki violin, so we are familiar with tiny little fingers eager to pluck stringed instruments and sound good.

I love the company's mission: ecological sourcing of the wood for this product. And I love the founder, a young man with a music degree who decided to make a three-stringed guitar for children, versus the usual six-string, because the wide neck is out of reach for them otherwise.

UPDATE: In my email inbox I found the first review, rejected, for reasons unclear to me:

Loog 3 String Mini Guitar, Green, for Children and Beginners (LGMIG) ★★★★★ from Carol Kean on November 17, 2018

This little Loog guitar is to die for! Your Baby Bear will find the size Juuuuust Right!

Years ago when our son was little we bought one of those children's guitars for Christmas. It was hard to tune, hard to keep tuned, and not much fun to hear. From infancy, our offspring had been hearing Dad's Alvarez 12-string and classical guitars, and their ears were not accustomed to junk.

Our grandson at age 2 discovered Grandpa's acoustic guitar but it is much too big, so we unearthed a ukelele our children never did learn to like, and the mandolin our daughter bought but never played. Both are small enough for a little person to hold, but actually pressing down those strings on the frets is another matter.

This baby guitar is small enough for a 3-yr-old to hold alone. The strings are so much easier to press. Yes, there are only three strings, but you can still play chords and carry a melody like "Twinkle" or just about any other song with this little mint-green guitar. This one will stay at Grandpa's house because it looks too delicate to entrust with a toddler unsupervised. As for the "age 3 and up" label, we've seen 2-year-olds enrolled in Suzuki violin, so we know that age labels are not one-size-fits-all.

The flash cards are cute, with the names of each note, a colorful cartoon character, and a picture in the corner showing which strings and frets to press to create that note.

The young man who designed this guitar sums it up very well: "Most guitars for kids are simply cheap, scaled-down replicas of a standard guitar. And because (standard guitars) have six strings anyway, the neck is still too wide for a child to play comfortably - let alone easily. Plus, cheap guitars tend to be cheaply made."

This one is well made, with a small body and narrow neck, just the right size for little fingers. And it sounds good too!

The story behind Loog guitars is worth a visit to the website - "Loog started as an academic project in 2010 when Rafael Atijas developed the concept as his Master’s thesis at New York University."

I love the "green" angle:

"Loog Guitars is driven by a passion for music and sustainable design.

We source our wood only from responsibly managed forests."

If you're at all serious about introducing children to music, this guitar is the best one I have seen.

THE REJECTION LETTER:

After carefully reviewing your submission, your review could not be posted to the website. While we appreciate your time and comments, reviews must adhere to the following guidelines:

"Your review should focus on specific features of the product and your experience with it." -- You mean like having three strings instead of six? Being smaller than a ukelele or mandolin, smaller than a regular child's guitar?

Perfect for anyone (not just kids) starting to learn guitar

I have played the guitar for 10 years and for the past two years I have been trying to teach my little ones. I bought them small guitars, ukuleles, ¾ size, half size mini guitar, and a guitalele. Unfortunately they have not stuck to it. So I gave it a break. I ran across the Loog but did not give much thought until I tried at a local shop. I bought the pro-electric version right away and took it home. My little ones took it up right away, and when I saw this acoustic one available for review I grabbed one for my daughter. I did not experienced the issue with with the paint smell (which would indeed take a couple of stars out). Overall what most impresses me about this guitar is the fact that the student (which by the way does not need to be a child) can learn slowly by breaking the chords in half, and most of all can apply the same concepts once they are ready to move to the full size.

Another clever thing is the App, we know folks gravitate towards apps now days, specially kids. I have experienced this first hand with my older son who plays electric guitar and started on the electric Loog and moved over. In creating the flashcards, they were clever enough to keep the full cord (the one used in a six string standard tuning guitar) while highlighting the bottom G, B, e, strings. So the cards can also be used once the transition takes place. I did receive this guitar for an unbiased review, and really this is what I have here. I absolutely love the results that this guitar format has given my son and can already see my daughter is enjoying this little acoustic guitar.

There is one thing which I find very annoying with this acoustic version: Tuning. This one does not hold the tuning for long and it is a bit finicky to actually get it in tune. The reason I will not take out a star here due to this issue is because the concept is genius, and a new guitar student (adult or child) will not really have issues with a quarter step down.

Please let me know if you found this helpful, and if you have any questions or would like to see other pictures feel free to leave a comment below and I will do my best to answer it. Cheers. Cass

Loog agreed to replace faulty guitar after a few emails

My daughter played with a Loog at a friend’s and loved it so I decided to order one for our family. Our Loog came smelling of spray paint, with the white nut part fallen off. I stuck it back on but it has again since fallen off many times. I contacted the company and they told me it just super glue it which I found to be upsetting considering the price.

Update- after I super glued the nut back on glue escaped out of the sides and also somehow got smeared in one area. I was really upset this was the outcome to following their advice and decided to email one more time. I was pleasantly surprised when they offered to replace the guitar after all and really appreciate that. We have a new one coming soon. I am relieved because I didn't want a super glue covered guitar after spending $80.

I really love the Loog and have been learning on their app so I can teach my daughter. I have never played a guitar before and learning on the 3 string is a lot of fun and not hard at all. I like that you can tune your Loog and watch instructional videos with the phone app. It's a wonderful product and I am very hopeful that our replacement will be in good condition.

Best beginner guitar on the market.

This is the best beginner guitar I have seen. The cue cards and app make teaching my kids (5 and 2) easy and fun! Within a day my 5 y/o was strumming and playing different chords.
