This was my first time using Meater on 2-inch thick tomahawks, and they came out perfectly! The app is fantastic—just follow it, and when it’s all done, your meal will be cooked to perfection. We’re excited to get them for everyone this Christmas!

Meater has allowed me to cook three ribeyes in a row a perfect rare side of medium rare by reverse searing on a Napoleon grill. I love the results. Unbelievably YUMMY!

It told me when to remove the meat and how long to rest. Brisket flat came out really good!

I just used it for the first time on baked halibut and if you’re familiar with halibut, you have to get it just right and it came out just right.

I'm thrilled to share my first experience with the Meater Plus Thermometer. It’s absolutely phenomenal! Marinating the chicken breasts was just the beginning, and baking them in the oven was so easy, taking significantly less time than I anticipated. I was able to do other tasks while keeping watch on the progress via my phone. The Meater Plus truly is a fantastic cooking tool!

I so wanted this to work and give it a great review, but unfortunately, I can’t. I read a lot of reviews about it and the consensus was the Bluetooth connection wasn’t what the promised I purchase mine in November of 2023 and have tried different strategies to overcome the connection problems, but nothing has worked. You must be basically right next to our smoker for it to connect. Our patio table is only 13 feet (yes, the OCD in me is at work here) from our smoker and I am out of range already. Our smoker. stays connected to its app when I am in the house with a line of sight to it at almost 40 feet through our patio doors.
Other that the connection problems I love it, straight forward settings on the app and the info you get is great. If they fixed the Bluetooth connection problems, it would be an awesome temperature probe

We finally used our meater this weekend. After two years in the package it charged without issue, connected to the app, and flawlessly measured the temperature of our gigantic prime rib. I was terrified to cook a 14lb prime rib for feast I'd ruin a wildly expensive piece of meat. The meater made it an absolute breeze. The app accurately calculated how long it would take to cook. When it started to count down to remove the roast we panicked for moment because it wasn't quite to temperature. We decided to trust it and I'm so glad we did. The temperature continued to rise as the app counted down our 30 minute resting period. At exactly 30 minutes it was at our desired temperature. Very impressive.
We didn't use it for 2 years and now we can't wait to use it again!

I do not know how I ever lived without this thing. It has completely changed how I cook meat, especially larger cuts. Being able to track temperature live on my phone while I am doing other things makes cooking feel almost foolproof.
Now let us talk about what it is and what it is not. Most people seem to use it the way it is shown in the pictures, to make sure they do not overcook a steak. That is fine, but it is actually one of the least useful ways to use it. The device measures both the internal and ambient temperature of what you are cooking and uses those readings to predict total cooking time. The problem is that steak cooks so quickly that it never has time to make accurate predictions. By the time it is ready to tell you it is almost done, it is already done or even overdone.
That said, even for steaks it is still very handy. Being able to monitor your meat temperature in real time means you can stop guessing and hit your preferred doneness every time. Just make sure you are doing your own mental math about carryover cooking, because you cannot rely on the predictive feature for the length of cook or resting time with short cooks.
Where this thing truly shines is in slow roasting. If you are making prime rib, tri tip, pork roast, or pulled pork, this is your best friend. Stick it in at the start and after about twenty minutes it will give you a remarkably accurate estimate for total cooking time. If that timing does not line up with your plans, you can adjust your heat early. It is also excellent for knowing exactly when to pull the meat, whether you want it ready to slice or fall apart tender.
I actually have two of them for when I am cooking for a crowd and some people like medium rare while others want medium. It makes it easy to track both and know exactly when to pull each one for perfect results.
It is not perfect. In my experience it tends to overestimate total cook time because it sometimes reads the ambient temperature a little low. Since the probe is still inside the meat, which is cooler than the oven, it does not pick up the true oven temperature accurately. Even with that small quirk, it is one of the most useful kitchen tools I own. Once you use it, you will never go back to guessing.

I bought a pellet grill recently and felt like trying out a wireless probe to compliment the wired probe that came with the unit. The meater app is really useful for taking the guess work out of safe cooking temperatures for different kinds of meat. The app also lets you know when to take off the heat in order to reach temperature without overcooking. The estimated cook times are also a handy addition. I think for the price it might not be the most economical choice, an instant read thermometer and a little vigilance would save you about 50 bucks, but you can't deny that this is a quality wifi thermometer.
Update - I took off a star because the bluetooth range is short and inconsistent. Which is fine if you plan to stay near the grill or use a second device to transmit through wifi.

Broke in just over a year.....and they wanted to charge me for a new charge.....smh......if you get it , get a warrant. And the connection was CRAPPY!!

Be sure to look at my photos to clearly understand the problems with this product.
I am done with this device. Problem #1 I own two and both have difficultly staying connected to the app. Problem #2 There's nothing to indicate when the battery is dying, so it can inconveniently die in the middle of the cook. Problem #3 It takes too long of a time for all the connections to load and randomly looses the connection. This is problematic on shorter cooks where something small such as a steak can overcook quickly. Then all you can do is patiently wait several minutes hoping it reconnects. If it doesn't reconnect on its own, you have to pull the thermometer out of the food and place it in the base station, and then reset up the cook. Problem #4 The interactions with the support department take too long to respond, and when you do hear back they have lousy excuses why the device didn't work properly, all being user errors. Problem #5 both internal food temperature and the external air temperature are consistently way off. My meat is always over done. When I test the meater temp to my instant read thermometer, the instant read is spot on and the Meater way off. The cook I did tonight, had the thermometer Meater reading at 74 and not changing. The instant read 132 (see photos in my review) . The meat overcookes. The meat went into a 500° oven, after searing on the stove for 12 minutes in the same cast iron pan it seared in. This has now ruined too many cooks to count with both Meater thermometers. I loved the concept but that's it. This thermometer is way too much work. People who are giving this device a high rating more than likely haven't used it enough times to see all its shortcomings over time and if they do find shortcomings, they forget to follow-upon their reviews.
The competition has better thermometers and are less expensive.
Two years ago I bought my son-in-law a thermometer that Costco had, because I couldn't even consider gifting the Meater one to him after all the frustrations I've had with it. It came with two thermometers and is considerably more sophisticated than the Meater Plus for half the cost and everything about it is better than Meater Plus. So far no calls to support for any technical issues either.

This is my first time using a wireless meat thermometer and I was very surprised at how easy it was. The app wasn’t hard to get connected to and set up. It’s air fryer safe so I stuck it in my chicken breasts and just let it stay in until it was done. The app shows you in real time what temp your food is and how much longer it thinks it will need to cook. It even set a timer when the chicken was done to let it “rest”
It’s dishwasher safe which is also very convenient and I love that the charging base has a magnet. I was able to stick it right above the stove to keep it within arm’s reach.

I had very high hopes for this product. And wanted to give it as many chances as I could to make sure that it wasn’t operator error before giving it up. But we just struggled with the connectivity to the app. When we did get a reading, it just seemed off and I felt like we had to babysit it more than I would’ve just a regular digital meat thermometer. The quality was great and it was fast and easy to read, very bright and clear when we could get a reading. For us the functionality was below average. Way more effort than we wanted to give. We didn’t get a chance to test the battery life because we gave up on it before it wore out.

Directions not clear on use of base as Bluetooth range extender. App includes distracting pop up screens. Other than these issues this is a great tool. Used it for a low 175° 3 hr smoke and high 300° chicken bbq. Better results than using TelTru & thermo combo. Brought sausage to precise 150°.

Absolutely love this product! Very robust and easy to use, perfectly monitors Internal and ambient temperature as well, so I know when to replenish the charcoal once the ambient temperature drop at minimum level. 1000% a must have tool for your smoker!

So easy to use. These days you can't afford raw or burned meat. Love it. And it works with Alexa too. How cool is that?

I had high hopes for this meat probe after my Inkbird wireless probe wire died. I was watching Guga on YouTube endorsing this probe. I thought it would be a good probe to buy. I do a lot of steaks on the grill, oven/stove, and BBQ on the smoker.
Red flag #1 - I purchase before Thanksgiving for my turkey. I should have noticed something was wrong when it would loose connection through the oven door. I have a cheap Frigidaire. I would need to set the base on the oven handle or on the floor right next to the door for connection. Even with the distance so short, it would still intermittently loose connection. I tried a few reverse sear steaks in the oven at 250 degrees. It has been wintertime, so I wrote the performance off as maybe just an issue with an oven door.
Red flag#2-I decide to do some steaks on indirect heat on my Weber Kettle. You know the kind, the one that has been around for 70 years. The think black material one. Well, I put in a new battery in the receiver just in case. I put the probe in my 1 1/2 inch ribeye. Inside the house, right next to the receiver, I could read the base temperature of the raw steak. I moved the steak to the outside grill. As soon as I put the steak on the indirect heat side, I could see the internal temperature and ambient temperature on the app. As soon as I put the lid on the kettle grill. I lost connection within a minute or two. I opened up the lid and it connected. I closed the lid again and went inside 25 feet away. Within a minute or two I lost connection again. I went outside again, I opened the lid, with the receiver on the handle of the grill. The receiver was blinking green for connected, but I could not connect through the app. I tried for several minutes to get connection, but it continued to work intermittently. I gave up and found my old gauge thermometer and about cried when it said 135 degrees.
Red Flag#3- I contacted Meater support (Apption Labs) for help. They advised me my app permissions may be blocked, which they were not. Told me some cooking appliances are good at blocking signals. They told me to keep the base close to the probe. I guess 1-2 feet is too far. They sent weblinks on range expectations and using Meater Cloud. Maybe that would work it the product worked more then 1 ft apart. No offer to warranty an exchange.
Conclusion: Don't waste your money. Stick to brands that standby their products. I will stay with Inkbird and ThermoWorks ThermoPen. I appreciate the prompt response from their support. But they do not warranty and stand by their product. I am glad I found a deal on this one for a bit off. It was $79.99 for the Meater Plus with a list price of $99.99. So at least I only threw $79.99 in the trash instead of $99.99. I guess the $20 I saved there will pay for a new ThermoPen. Good luck grillers and BBQ enthusiasts. If you still buy one and it performs as well as mind did, well I told you so!!

Used it while camping over the Halloween weekend. Paired easily with my phone, app guided how to use it (can't skip the tutorial), and off I went to start cooking with it. Inserted the probe into the chicken, turned on the rotisserie, and 2.5 hours later, internal temperature of 165F was reached and voilà, juicy and tasty chicken for the family.
Biggest complaint I have is that you cannot move the phone too far from probe... Once you come back within range, the app has to get a new temperature reading and then update with a new estimated time to completion.
Meater 2 probe just got released a few days ago with an all metal design that can resist higher temperatures. I might return this Meater Plus for the Meater 2, although the Plus worked well.

Love the MEATER plus right out of
The box. Very easy to set up and use. App is very easy and intuitive and love calculated cook time feature. True wifi using an old iPad and my phone for go anywhere monitoring.

I’ve used the MEATER on the grill, rotisserie, oil less fryer and even in the oven. Works perfectly every time. It’s worth the investment if you want delicious meat every time.

This is the second unit that I bought and it never fail, it will pin point estimated time of cook almost to exact time, this is a plus you can plan your party with no time wasted in wondering about anything.

My husband bought me the original Meater for Christmas a few years ago, and I returned it since the range was poor and it didn't work inside most of my appliance. I have since bought the Meater Plus and I love it. Although some of my appliance have built in probes, some of them don't.
Although I do have an Instant Read probe that I still use to verify doneness of proteins, the Meater Plus is so much easier to use and you don't have to constantly check the food so it doesn't get over or undercooked. I am an experienced cook, but as you know foods can look done on the outside, but you can't see how well done they are on the inside. This Meater Plus is the perfect solution for perfectly cooked proteins and other foods.
So what do I love about the Meater Plus?
1 - It works using an app that can be downloaded for either phones or tablets using Android or IOS operating systems.
2 - It easily connects using Bluetooth and the Meater cloud through your router.
3 - In the app settings, you can set your preferences for the various alarms.
4 - When a done temperature preference is set in the app for a cook, the app will let you know when the food is done, and allow for a resting period when the temperature will increase. So, for example, if you want a medium rare steak and set the temperature for 130 degrees, the app will tell you the steak is done at 125 degrees and allow for a 5 minute resting period that the temperature will increase to 130 degrees. This means perfectly done proteins every time.
5 - You can choose a preset in the app, and then modify it to your preference.
6 - This probe works well to monitor food inside any oven and even in cookers like the Ninja Speedi, Ninja grills, and pressure cookers.
7 - Cooking progress can be monitored wherever you can take your phone or tablet in the house. You don't have to stay in the kitchen.
8- Works with rotisseries where wired probes aren't practical.
9 - Can be connected to Alexa for notifications.
10 - The base unit is powered by an "A" battery, and pressing a button lets you know if the battery is still good. The probe is charged in the base unit.
11 - The base unit is magnetized so it can be stored on the side of any metal appliance. This means not having to find it in a cabinet or drawer. I have two of these, and keep them on the side of my Anova oven so they are always handy.
I have used this Meater Plus in my ovens, the Ninja Speedi, and in my pressure cookers with great results. I have the app on my phone, and can take my phone in the family room while I watch TV and still monitor the progress of my food cooking. I also like the display of the ambient temperature. This tells you whether your oven is actually getting to the temperature you set it to. In my experience, many ovens never reach the temperature you set, so trying to estimate when your food will be cooked is all guesswork. The Meater Plus takes the guesswork out of cooking. Once you set a done temperature, the app estimates when your food will be fully cooked. This make is so much easier to make sure all of the other components of your meal will be done and hot at the same time. No matter how experienced you are in cooking, there is always a certain amount of guesswork in knowing when foods are cooked to the preferred doneness. The Meater Plus eliminates some of the guesswork. I should also mention that the range of the Meater Plus is greater if you remove the probe from the holder before opening the app. This was mentioned by one other reviewer.
UPDATE 11/14/24:
I purchased 2 of these Meaters 2 years ago and I still love them. As mentioned previously, the probe should be removed from the charger before opening the app to increase the range of the probes. In the last 2 years, I have used these probes in a few ovens and pressure cookers as well as outdoor ovens and smokers. I have never been disappointed with the performance of these probes. What I love about the Meater is::
1) The charging units for the probes are magnetic. So, I can store them on the side of an oven where they are kept handy.
2) The app is so easy to use. Choose a meat you want to cook to get suggested internal temperatures for your choice, and still have the ability to modify the done temperature. You can also add and save your preferred temperatures for the meats you are cooking.
3) The app allows for carryover temperatures, so the app will say the food is done when it is 5 degrees less than the chosen temperature.
4) Whether cooking indoors or outdoors, I can monitor the progress of my cook inside and on the phone app.
5) The app tells you the ambient temperature of the oven or grill you are using. So, you know if the temperature is actually the temperature you set.
6) My favorite is that the app calculates the time it will take to finish cooking, and this estimate has been spot on. For me, this is important since I try to get sides for the meal done at the same time so everything is hot for serving.
I should mention that I also have a couple sets of "wireless" meat thermometers that the probes are attached to wires that must be connected to the base unit. The base unit connects to an app on my phone. Although these meat thermometers work fine and are color coded so you know where each probe is monitoring, the wires get tangled when using 2-4 of them. These meat thermometers are much easier since they are truly wireless. I tries another set of wireless meat thermometers and sent them back because they kept losing the connection. By the time I was able to reconnect them, the meat was over done. The Meater Plus is the way to go. Unfortunately, the Meater block is not the plus version, nor is the block magnetic to stick on the side of an appliance. This Meater Plus works great and I plan to stay with it until they develop a set that works as well. Incidentally, I am back to buy another one.
UPDATE 09/13/26:
I have had 2 of these Meater Plus thermometers for over 4 years, and they still work perfectly and accurately. Since then, I have bought 3 different rechargeable meat thermometers that work fine when they are charged. The problem is that the rechargeables are drain when not in use. So, I have to remember to charge them the day before I plan to use them. Since the Meater Plus base unit uses batteries to charge the probe and the base unit, they are never out of power. In the 4 years I have had the 2 Meater Plus thermometers, I have not had to change the batteries in the base unit. I have just purchased the Meater Block Smart Meater with 4 probes that uses batteries for the base unit and can be plugged into USB for longer cooks to save the batteries. If this doesn't work for me, I will purchase 2 more of these thermometers since the app supports only 4 thermometers. Personally, I wouldn't recommend any of the rechargeable thermometers since they are never ready when you need them unless you can plan a day ahead to charge them.
I hope this review was helpful for you. I will update this review if my opinion changes or I find more ways to use it.

My old meat thermometer stopped working and I wanted one without a wire. This one appeared online to be of higher quality and I am happy with it.
Edit: July 30, 2022
The ceramic top separated from the stainless steel part but the manufacturer replaced it so still 5 Stars. I don't think it will happen again because I learned I shouldn't pull it out by the black ceramic top. I was so concerned about inserting deeply enough I embedded it too deep. Insert it to the notch but not too much more so you can pull it by the stainless steel part and not the ceramic top.

Bought this MEATER probe after watching one of my favorite Kamado YouTube’rs using it. I needed a wireless one since purchasing the Joetisserie for my kamado big joe. This probe was so easy to use and set up and the accuracy is spot on (I used my other three wired probes to verify.) I love the fact that with one small probe I can get my pit temperature as well as my internal temp of whatever I am cooking. It’s an ingenious probe. I’ve used it on a whole chicken as well as a ribeye roast on my Joetisserie. I’ve also used it on sitting meats like beef ribs. If you pair the probe with an iPad that you have laying around (or any kind of tablet) you can extend the range on the probe, which out the box is usually far enough for me. I love this probe. Couldn’t be happier. I guess If someone forced me to find a negative I’d say the price. But it’s so worth it I would hardly say it’s a negative since I’ve been using it.

This was and Au Wagyu with the MEATER+ set 131° and took it off at 125° To rest. Excellent results internal temp. Ambient temp is a little tricky as placement is always difficult (meat temp or closeness to other heat sources)

Super easy & user friendly! Love the built in dual sensors. App is highly informative and gives you rest time, because it knows the meat will continue to cook when taken off the grill. I have already recommended The Meater+ to several of my grilling friends! No more over or undercooked meat!

Second Edit:
I used it again and after a shaky start, worked through a whole 4 hour cook time. The next time I tried to use it, the probe wouldn't pair with the base. Eventually gave up. Did use it again and it worked okay, but not the probe won't charge, even though the base knows the probe is installed, and the probe is clean like brand new. Every time I take it out of the base and start to setup a cook, I get a 'probe less than half charged' message on my phone.
I really wished this worked. I love the application and the whole idea of this product. You just can't count on it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit:
One hour into my second use, the probe lost contact with the Meater + and wont connect now 1 hour into a 12 hour cook. Nothing moved, the base was 15 feet away from the probe, and my phone was 20 feet away from my base. After I got the disconnect notice, I moved the base closer to the probe, but it won't reconnect. I could pull it out of the meat, clean it, put it in the base and try to reconnect, but I have a second wired probe in the meat I am already tired of screwing with this.
It would be a really cool product if it worked, but it hasn't worked correctly two times in my first two uses. I wish I hadn't bought it.
-----------------------------------
Got my Mater+ a few days ago, got it charged, downloaded the app, and got it paired and everything working. Perfect. I wanted to have it before cooking Christmas Eve prime roast.
Fired up the app today, got the probe out of the Meater, and I couldn't get the probe to communicate with the base. I messed around with it for about 20 minutes, and got the whole chain communicating.
Put the roast in the oven, and got it cooking.
Then about 25 minutes into the cook, the probe stopped communicating again.
The base was no more than 4 feet away from the probe. The only instructions were to move the base closer to the probe.
I updated the base software, and came to a point in the cook where I could take the probe out of the meat. I cleaned it off, put it back into the base, took it out, and it started working.
I put it back into the roast, and it continued to work for the last 1:30 of the cook.
It was actually really helpful. I like this product, but it scares me that it was so temperamental when it was brand new.
