Has dents/defects

It functions as it should, but I was surprised at how many dings and dents it has. It was supposed to be brand new, but perhaps I was mistakenly sent a used one. For the price, I expected a higher quality item.

Small but great drum box!

This is a great little drum box. I love the colors and the feel of the wood. It is lightweight, making it great for travel, but you can really feel the quality of the construction. Even though it's a small box, it produces some great quality sound. I have used it mostly in jam sessions at home, but it has never been drowned out by the other voices or instruments. There is plenty of drumming surface for both base and snare sounds. I am about 5'5", and I feel very comfortable on this cajon, but it is smaller than typical ones. The usual size is a bit larger than this, so if you are much taller than I am, you may prefer a regular-sized cajon rather than this smaller one. I love the compact size and sound quality of this little drum box.

Highly recommend!!!!

1 hour into use and I’m in love. (Cover song, quality)

This product is intuitive and high quality. Very easy to learn and a very versatile instrument. For the price I was expecting a lot less but this is more than I paid for. I’ve been playing acoustic covers of songs and just playing along to learn the ins and outs of this drum and after about 2 hours I feel confident enough to get through just about any song by feel without messing up.

Great sound.

My son is a first time user of the box and it has been easy and fun! Highly recommend for beginners.

Good for students... Not sure how long this will last. Maybe it's just this one.

I love the look of this but there's some construction issues. From 10' away you don't see any issues. Upon closer inspection however... There's some broken bracing inside, an area of the box where the plywood doesn't line up and the face board is chipped and set off of the frame, as well as stress cracks in the finish of the face board along the screws. See pictures. I reached out via the companies contact form and have heard no response. It'll get used and will work but doubt I'll buy another.

This was a fun purchase!

This has a nice sound and anyone can use it. The color of the word is attractive so you can leave it out anywhere. My husband was thrilled with his gift and we have all been taking a turn trying out our drumming skills!

Broken

The product arrived damaged and unusable. Nevertheless, I am very disappointed and upset because of the lack of care. I am hoping to get reimbursed in full.

Snare had come loose but I fixed it.

Great craftsmanship, materials and feel. Sounds cool and it’s about as comfortable as you’d expect.

Nice instrument, but dicey quality control from the factory

We bought this for a gift for my younger son who is already a drummer, but wanted to expand a bit. Nice tone, and well sized for a kid. However, despite a sealed and completely undamaged box (this was not shipping damage!) it had a mashed corner as shown in the photo, so some quality control issues. Dropped at the factory. He wanted to play his gift, so didn't want to wait, and it clearly didn't impact tone, so we kept it, but be aware you may get something that should have never have left the factory.

My son loved it

Perfect size and the sound is great

Great Cajon drum for a beginner

I just purchased my second Cajon after realizing the first one I purchased was a larger and louder drum (no regrets, my neighbors just aren’t thrilled!), so thought adding this little guy to the mix would be fun for jam sessions and ease of moving around.

I love the size and the finish, the craftsmanship is lovely, though unfortunately ours arrived with a defect on the wood. The sound is very distinct for its size, it has great bass and a nice snare for its size. It’s a ton of fun to play and extremely addicting even for newbies.

Crisp Sound

Bought this for Home Jam... has a crisp sound and for a price...it sure is worthy. I love the Snare and the quality of wood is superb. Thank you for making this without costing an arm and a leg.

Awesome for Medium Size kids or Small Adult

We bought this for my 12 year old and 8 year old to learn on. The sound quality is perfect. Sou is very Similar to the larger size one we use at our church for worship. Love the size for medium size kids. Love the sound. Love the portability. And bonus it is NOT too loud to play in any room of the house. The construction is well made also.

Excellent quality

This is a great quality cajon! If you are looking for an option for someone wanting to learn, this one is a good one that will last! Sounds great.

Perfect!

Faster shipping than expected.

Sound: Very impressive for a small boy, I was expecting lower sounds, holds it’s own properly against 2 jumbo acoustic guitars strumming uncontrollably.

Build quality: Very impressed with over all sturdiness and wood quality of this cajon, I’ve played on a “high end” LP, and this small boy is right up there.

Overall great instrument, if you’re considering it and want to get started, get this over anything else around this price range.

Great travel or beginner's cajon

The cajon is an awesome instrument to pick up (or rather sit on) and play. This one is a smaller size for a smaller price but it's a quality build and finish.

The tones on the side and top sound decent, the high tones sound great and the bass tone sounds pretty good for the size - just don't expect a ton of depth from the bass tone.

Very happy with this purchase if you're on the fence.

Makes a very Comfortable Seat for Playing Bongos as well .

The Compact size is impressive. Super easy Portability.

Great mid-size for kids

This is a great "intermediate size" cajon. We have a full size adult one and our kids like playing it but its just a little too big to be something they can really learn on. So we got this one and it's been great. Pictures is of our (tall for his age) 6 year old. This cajon has a good sound and we've had no problems with it so far. Good quality and came in good condition. We have been satisfied with meinl products overall so far and this one didn't disappoint.

Great quality drum!

This is the first cajon drum I have ever used and purchased, and I was very satisfied with the quality and build. It is made of nice, sturdy wood and feels stable and like it'll last a long time. It has great sound throughout and was surprised at all the different sounds you can get from hitting it in different places. The bass sounds great in it, and the snares are crisp and have good sound. It's light and very portable, and I can move it around very easily. Even as a percussionist, I was in awe of all it could do and all I can play with it. Very satisfied with the purchase! I recommend it!

Just got this for Christmas and love it already

I just got this for Christmas and love it. It sounds really good. It was a little smaller that I thought it would be but that is ok. I would recommend this Cajon drum for anybody has a great sound to it.

Compact size is perfect for either a beginner or one that travels often.

This cajon is better quality than I thought it’d be. It is extremely well made and attractive. I have seen a couple other brands in a music store that costs more but is garbage. Meinl knows what they’re doing. I highly recommend this product. You cannot go wrong. It has an awesome array of sounds. One of the best music related buys I’ve ever made. This IS NOT a Chinese made product. It is made in Europe.

Awesome sound.

The sound was awesome. The snares are so cool and my cat thinks it’s pretty comfortable. Was a thoughtful and unique gift.

A basic, decent quality Cajon

One of my favorite places to play drums is on the dash of our car with the music blasting. I was a drummer in high school and have a decent drum kit at home, but I thought it would be good to get something more portable and easier to play. Something that would reproduce the pleasure of playing on the car dash.

A while back, I played a quality Cajon - not sure what brand or model - that was part of an interactive museum exhibit and thought, aha, this is what I want!

I finally got this Meinl JC50LBNT Cajon after doing a fair amount of research online, and a bit at our local drum shop.

Meinl is a German manufacturer, mentioned often (along with Schlagwerk) as a quality European Cajon manufacturer in the reviews I've seen. I tried a few American made Cajons and wasn't really overwhelmed with the sound or feel of the budget models I was looking at, so I took a risk and ordered this Meinl "Jam" Cajon.

The Meinl JC50LBNT is a bit smaller (10.25x10.25x15 inches) than the usual Cajons (for e.g. the BC1NTWR which is 15x15x23 inches), so it's more portable - though you are more hunched over while sitting on it to play. It is a non-adjustable "snare" type of Cajon (see photo of the inside) as opposed to "wire" models that use two coiled wires instead of snares to achieve the crisp snare sound. The snare separation between striking the top vs the center of the Cajon is decent, but not as good as some "wire" models I tried. It's decently loud, but not excessively so. Made in Europe with Baltic wood, it certainly feels like a nice, well-made instrument.

Generally, I'm quite pleased with how this Cajon sounds: it plays as well or better than the American Cajons I tried in the drum shop, and is cheaper, so it's definitely a recommended value option. I do have to underline, though, that this model, while good quality and value, is still one of Meinl's basic entry-level Cajons, and it doesn't quite reproduce the quality feel and crispness of the Cajon I played in the museum.

Perfect compact cajon

This thing is awesome. It has a crisp sound and is perfect for a studio apartment. I can tap out personal rhythms or really slap it and let the neighbors hear. Excellent craftsmanship and solid construction. I'm about 5'10" 190 and have no problem sitting and playing comfortably.
