Doesn't work and Dangerous batteries

This item NEVER worked. Not even 2.5 months old. Batteries exploded and leaked in the case after attempting to charge.

Good radio, needs better instructions, need a decent charger.

My wife had fallen.

She can get out of bed, but needs me to help her get up and help her walk.

I was using Alexa, but then the internet went down.

Alexa occasionally announces things that have no meaning to me.

I live in a housing development near a small town.

I scanned the channels and found no one on any of them..

I choose channel 11.

I did not have to use the extra tones, since there were no others on any channel.

On low power it will talk inside and outside.

The volume is probably too low, to hear when I am riding on my mower.

I can sort of hear it, but not well enough to know for sure.

The mower make a lot of noise.

I have to turn it off, if someone comes up to talk to me.

We live in a brick house.

Midland LTX630VP3 is a pretty good radio. I like the 2 year warranty and the screen is large enough for my old eyes to see the channel number. I choose yellow on black for the case. Midland is a recognized name in handheld FRS radios. I did not need a GMRS license, because I was not going to talk very far. I think about 2 miles is all that it will talk on an open field. 30 miles is mountain top to mountain top, if the atmosphere is excellent and using GMRS 50 watt radio.

It has an excellent battery charger, The 2 units snap in.

Unlike the Baofeng, where I have to try again and again to get the radio in the charger.

It weighs a little more than 1/2 the weight of Baofeng UV5R.

I clip it in my shirt pocket and do not know that it is there.

I charge it 6 hours at night and the red light never goes out.

If I used it all the time, I think I would need some rechargeable AAA batteries.

Three things that Midland did not do.

1. The battery case has no way to reasonably remove it.

But a small screwdriver or knife, inserted just below the serial number,

in the middle, and wiggled will help get the case off.

The screwdriver make no mark on the case.

2. Midland does not tell how to insert the battery.

I am including a photo that shows where the the tab goes.

(lower left).

3. Midland's instruction manual, with 3 point character size, is too little for me to read.

There is a PDF manual, not at Midland, that has full size print.

I am returning the radio.

I needed a radio that I could have turned on for 16 hours, then recharge in 7 hours - at most.

The radio is in standby 98% of the time, for about a 16 hours day.

This battery takes over 12 hours to charge, so I can not use it.

It would take rechargeable batteries to make it work.

It is a not convenient to remove the clip and to get a knife to open the case.

I had ordered the batteries and a charger.

After thinking about the daily removing, installing, charging of batteries

for two devices, two times per day, I will need to return the charger and batteries.

Another manufacturer make a 3000ma battery for a radio. It takes 5 hours to charge. It is also, lower priced than this radio and the charger and the batteries. I will need to go with that radio.

Mile Radius

These are advertised to work with a 30 mile radius these are definitely not a 30 mile radius walkie-talkie more like 1 mile radius I will definitely be attempting a refund because I was looking for something long-distance these are definitely not them!!

Disgusting, received majorly used

These came from midland, I purchased them new. They came beyond used. No idea if they work, the buttons are all crusty. So now I have to waste my time to return them even though they are trash.

Worked great !!

Out of the box the batteries were charged up . Worked great out on the Jeep trail down in the hills and running down the highway.

Not water resistant as advertised

Liked using it, but the claim that its water resistant is false. It got splashed while on a kayak and died instantly. There is no seal for the battery compartment and water got inside.

Defective and Hazardous - Might be a fluke, Pray it is.

I ordered this with high expectations and a mid-range price tag to replace a lower cost bracket pair that I use with my "squad mate" to keep in touch when he is walking my dogs and on training missions. I got the package and told him to get them set up while I was reviewing some intel on the computer. About 30 seconds later I hear him yell and he flings a smoking white looking thing across the room and it hits the wall. I ask what the hell that was about and hes shaking his hand up and down telling me. It turns out the battery was starting to melt in one of the two way radio units and was melting itself in the process. If you have to ask "Did he put it in the right way" You need not apply to read any further, just move on stranger. See the pictures and the short video for actual damage details. I am extremely worried that if the battery was placed in and just left on the table it would have caused a fire or damage to my service dog, Sarah that was laying down next to the table. If you have children you may want to pray that this does not happen to you. It may have been a fluke and I got a bad battery but I don't know why that one went supercharged and self destructed. I also tested the second batter and installed it the same way as the first. It worked 100% OK. The second radio turned on and functioned. No problems there. I initiated a return before writing this. I hope I get one. God bless.

Charger is defective

Pretty disappointing that I can't charge these radios at the same time. Hope midland gets back to me and resolves this.
